Manipulating Crystal Growth and Secondary Phase PbI_(2)to Enable Efficient and Stable Perovskite Solar Cells with Natural Additives

In perovskite solar cells(PSCs),the inherent defects of perovskite film and the random distribution of excess lead iodide(PbI_(2))prevent the improvement of efficiency and stability.Herein,natural cellulose is used as the raw material to design a series of cellulose derivatives for perovskite crystallization engineering.The cationic cellulose derivative C-Im-CN with cyano-imidazolium(Im-CN)cation and chloride anion prominently promotes the crystallization process,grain growth,and directional orientation of perovskite.Meanwhile,excess PbI_(2)is transferred to the surface of perovskite grains or formed plate-like crystallites in local domains.These effects result in suppressing defect formation,decreasing grain boundaries,enhancing carrier extraction,inhibiting non-radiative recombination,and dramatically prolonging carrier lifetimes.Thus,the PSCs exhibit a high power conversion efficiency of 24.71%.Moreover,C-Im-CN has multiple interaction sites and polymer skeleton,so the unencapsulated PSCs maintain above 91.3%of their initial efficiencies after 3000 h of continuous operation in a conventional air atmosphere and have good stability under high humidity conditions.The utilization of biopolymers with excellent structure-designability to manage the perovskite opens a state-of-the-art avenue for manufacturing and improving PSCs.

C14-HSL limits the mycelial morphology of pathogen Trichosporon cells but enhances their aggregation:Mechanisms and implications

The biosecurity hazards caused by pathogenic fungus have been widely concerned.Given the long-term coexistence of eukaryotic pathogens and quorum sensing bacteria in different habitats in environments,we hypothesized that they have social interactions via signal molecules.In this work,we firstly discovered the well-known bacterial signal molecules play an adverse role in the cell morphology and metabolism in a model pathogen Trichosporon asahii.N-Tetradecanoyl-L-homoserine lactone(C14-HSL)was discovered to increase pathogen hazards of T.asahii,which limited mycelium by 52%,but enhanced cell aggregation by 93%.Higher fluorescence intensity of tryptophan(59%)and aromatic protein(2-fold)contents after the treatment of C14-HSL,indicating that aromatic proteins helped aggregate Trichosporon and showed hydrophobicity.Transcriptome analysis revealed that C14-HSL upregulated the shikimate pathway(above1-fold)located in downstream of tricarboxylic acid cycle,which contributed to the synthesis of more aromatic proteins and the formation of larger flocs.The limited mycelial growth of T.asahii attributed to the up-regulated expressions of cell cycle process.The fungal transboundary response to bacterial C14-HSL was controlled by signal transduction pathways.This study provides new insights into the co-evolution of bacterial and pathogenic fungi in microecosystems.

Structural energy storage composites based on modified carbon fiber electrode with metal-organic frame enhancing layered double hydroxide

Structural energy storage composites present advantages in simultaneously achieving structural strength and electrochemical properties.Adoption of carbon fiber electrodes and resin structural electrolytes in energy storage composite poses challenges in maintaining good mechanical and electrochemical properties at reasonable cost and effort.Here,we report a simple method to fabricate structural supercapacitor using carbon fiber electrodes(modified by Ni-layered double hydroxide(Ni-LDH)and in-situ growth of Co-metal-organic framework(Co-MOF)in a two-step process denoted as Co-MOF/Ni-LDH@CF)and bicontinuous-phase epoxy resin-based structural electrolyte.Co-MOF/Ni-LDH@CF as electrode material exhibits improved specific capacity(42.45 F·g^(-1))and cycle performance(93.3%capacity retention after 1000 cycles)in a three-electrode system.The bicontinuous-phase epoxy resin-based structural electrolyte exhibits an ionic conductivity of 3.27×10^(-4) S·cm^(-1).The fabricated Co-MOF/Ni-LDH@CF/SPE-50 structural supercapacitor has an energy density of 3.21 Wh·kg^(-1) at a power density of 42.25 W·kg^(-1),whilst maintaining tensile strength and modulus of 334.6 MPa and 25.2 GPa.These results show practical potential of employing modified commercial carbon fiber electrodes and epoxy resin-based structural electrolytes in structural energy storage applications.

Maternal and infant microbiome:next-generation indicators and targets for intergenerational health and nutrition care

Microbes are commonly sensitive to shifts in the physiological and pathological state of their hosts,including mothers and babies.From this perspective,the microbiome may be a good indicator for diseases during pregnancy and has the potential to be used for perinatal health monitoring.This is embodied in the application of microbiome from multi body sites for auxiliary diagnosis,early prediction,prolonged monitoring,and retrospective diagnosis of pregnancy and infant complications,as well as nutrition management and health products developments of mothers and babies.Here we summarized the progress in these areas and explained that the microbiome of different body sites is sensitive to different diseases and their microbial biomarkers may overlap between each other,thus we need to make a diagnosis prudently for those diseases.Based on the microbiome variances and additional anthropometric and physical data,individualized responses of mothers and neonates to meals and probiotics/prebiotics were predictable,which is of importance for precise nutrition and probiotics/prebiotics managements and developments.Although a great deal of encouraging performance was manifested in previous studies,the efficacy could be further improved by combining multi-aspect data such as multi-omics and time series analysis in the future.This review reconceptualizes maternal and infant health from a microbiome perspective,and the knowledge in it may inspire the development of new options for the prevention and treatment of adverse pregnancy outcomes and bring a leap forward in perinatal health care.

Defects and morphology engineering for constructing V_(5)-Ni_(3)S_(2)@Vs-Cu_(2)S nanotube heterojunction arrays toward efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for overall water splitting

The development of highly active,stable and inexpensive electrocatalysts for hydrogen production by defects and morphology engineering remains a great challenge.Herein,S vacancies-rich Ni_(3)S_(2)@Cu_(2)S nan-otube heterojunction arrays were in-situ grown on copper foam(V_(5)-Ni_(3)S_(2)@Vs-Cu_(2)S NHAs/CF)for efficient electrocatalytic overall water splitting.With the merits of nanotube arrays and efficient electronic mod-ulation drived by the OD vacancy defect and 2D heterojunction defect,the resultant V_(5)-Ni_(3)S_(2)@Vs-Cu_(2)S NHAs/CF electrocatalyst exhibits excellent electrocatalytic activity with a low overpotential of 47 mV for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)at 10 mA cm^(-2) current density,and 263 mV for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)at 50 mA cm^(-2) current density,as well as a cell voltage of 1.48 V at 10 mA cm^(-2).Moreover,the nanotube heterojunction arrays endows V_(5)-Ni_(3)S_(2)@Vs-Cu_(2)S NHAs/CF with outstanding stability in long-term catalytic processes,as confirmed by the continuous chronopotentiom-etry tests at current densities of 10 mA cm^(-2) for 100 h.

How the surface Cu layer affected the activity of Ni foil for alkaline hydrogen evolution

Synthesizing bimetallic nanomaterials,with noble metals as the surface layers and inert metals as the substrates,has been proven to be an effective way to reduce the use of noble metals with maintained catalytic activity.However,an atomic diffusion from the inert substrate to the surface during the long-term operation has been reported to significantly decrease the activity.In this work,a series of catalysis-inert Cu-coated Ni foil were fabricated through electrodeposition and their activities for alkaline hydrogen evolution were investigated.Notably,the Ni/Cu-60 sample showed a similar catalytic property with pure Ni foil and only a slight decrease in HER activity was observed.The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results indicated a decreased electron concentration of Cu in Ni/Cu-60,and theoretical calculations further demonstrated the electron transfer between the Ni substrate and Cu layer.Our results reveal that a specific composition or structure of an inert metal layer might not significantly decrease the electrocatalytic activity of active metals.Moreover,there are more possibilities for the rational design of metal-based catalysts for electrocatalysis.

Multiple thermal events recorded in the Acasta Gneiss Complex:Evidence from in-situ dating of zircon, titanite, and apatite

In-situ dating of the zircons, titanites, and apatites in the rock fragments of approximately 1 cm2in size from the Acasta Gneiss Complex was performed using secondary ion mass spectrometry or laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry to provide constraints on the thermal history of the Acasta Gneiss Complex. The zircons in these rock fragments typically exhibit multiple age populations, reflecting the presence of inherited zircons or the post-crystallization process of zircon overgrowth. Combined with previous studies, our zircon dating results reveal multiple magmatic events that occurred in the Acasta Gneiss Complex, specifically at >3.96, ~3.72, and ~3.57 Ga, respectively. A titanite Pb-Pb isochron age of2911±22 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=1.5) for sample AY199 is identified, consistent with the timing of the latest Archean magmatism in the Acasta Gneiss Complex. The titanite U-Pb ages for samples AC478 and AY066 are 1932±270 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=2.3) and 1813±45 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=2.3), respectively. The apatites in sample P090803-C exhibit a Pb-Pb isochron age of 1833±26 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=1.4). The apatite U-Pb ages for samples AC478, AY199, and AY066 are 1850±20 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=1.3), 1827±100 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=6.3), and 1807±58 Ma(95% confidence level, MSWD=3.9), respectively. Titanites in samples AC478 and AY066, as well as the apatites in all four investigated samples, show a uniform age(Pb-Pb or U-Pb age) of ~1.9–1.8 Ga,indicating U-Pb system reset in these minerals due to the Wopmay orogeny and documenting that the peak temperature condition associated with the Wopmay orogeny exceeded the apatite U-Pb closure temperature and approached or exceeded that of titanite.

Urbanization is the inevitable outcome of socioeconomic development,especially after the industrial revolution in 1760(1).Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949,the urbanization of China has made great progress.The speed and mass of urbanization and notably its relevant consequences,such as resource consumption and carbon emissions,has taken place in the most populous country in the world over the past three decades,which is raising increased concerns internationally(2)(Figure 1).Urbanization rate(in this article,this indicator refers to the population urbanization rate)is a common indicator of urbanization.Many international organizations(such as the World Bank,World Health Organization,Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,etc.)use urbanization as one of the important criteria for measuring productivity and economic growth in a country(1).China’s urbanization process can be described as the largest population migration in history and has also had an important impact on public health.As the national population migrates from rural to urban areas,differences in lifestyle,environmental quality,social security,and accidental injuries have all been brought about and become more and more dramatic(3).

3d-transition metal(Fe,Co,Ni,and Mn)-based MXene materials have been predicted to demonstrate exceptional electrochemical performance because of their good electrical conductivity and the presence of metallic atoms with multiple charge states.However,until now,there have been no reports on MXenes based on Fe,Co,Ni,and Mn,due to the lack of 3d-metal-layered precursors.Herein,we successfully synthesized the first 3d-transition metal-based MXenes,Mn_(2)CT_(x) by exfoliating a layered precursor derived from the anti-perovskite bulk Mn3GaC.The as-prepared Mn_(2)CT_(x) MXene nanosheets were employed as anode materials in lithium-ion batteries,which exhibited stable storage capacity of 764.7 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.5 C,placing its storage capacities at an upper-middle level compared with other reported MXene materials as well as other Mn-based anode materials.Overall,this study opens a new avenue for MXene research by synthesizing 3d-transition metal-based MXenes for electrochemical applications.

Optical colorimetric LiTaO_(3)wafers for highprecision lithography on frequency control of SAW devices

Surface acoustic wave(SAW)resonators based on lithium tantalate(LT,LiTaO_(3))wafers are crucial elements of mobile communication filters.The use of intrinsic LT wafers typically brings about low fabrication accuracy of SAW resonators due to strong UV reflection in the lithography process.This hinders their resonance frequency control seriously in industrial manufacture.LT doping and chemical reduction could be applied to decrease the UV reflection of LT wafers for high lithographic precision.However,conventional methods fail to provide a fast and nondestructive approach to identify the UV performance of standard single-side polished LT wafers for highprecision frequency control.Here,we propose a convenient on-line sensing scheme based on the colorimetry of reduced Fe-doped LT wafers and build up an automatic testing system for industrial applications.The levels of Fe doping and chemical reduction are evaluated by the lightness and color difference of LT-based wafers.The correlation between the wafer visible colorimetry and UV reflection is established to refine the lithography process and specifically manipulate the frequency performance of SAW resonators.Our study provides a powerful tool for the fabrication control of SAW resonators and will inspire more applications on sophisticated devices of mobile communication.
