Effect of age on click-evoked otoacoustic emission A systematic review

OBJECTIVE：The aims of this study were to investigate the changes of the total intensity of transient evoked otoacoustic emission（TEOAE） and signal-to-noise ratio in various frequency bands as a function of aging,and to explore the role of age-related decline of cochlear outer hair *** SOURCES：The literature was searched using the PubMed database using ＇transient-evoked otoacoustic emissions＇ as a *** were limited as follows：Species was ＇Humans＇;languages were ＇English and Chinese＇;publication date between 1990-01-01 and *** references of the found were also searched to obtain additional *** SELECTION：Inclusion criteria：（1） Articles should involve the total TEOAE level or signal-to-noise ratio.（2） The measurement and analysis system used was Otodynamics ILO analysis system（ILO88,ILO92,ILO96 or ILO292）.（3） Studies involved groups of greater than 10 subjects and TEOAE results were from normally hearing ears.（4） If more papers from the same author or laboratory analyzed the same subjects,only one was *** OUTCOME MEASURES：The correlations of the age scale with the total level and signal-to-noise ratio of TEOAE was determined,***：（1） TEOAE total level gradually increased until 2 months of age,and then decreased with increasing *** negative correlations between total TEOAE level and age were found（r =-0.885,P = 0.000）.（2） The most rapid decrease of TEOAE amplitude occurred at 1 year *** total TEOAE level decreased about 4.25 dB SPL between 2 months to 1 year old,then about 0.26-0.52 dB SPL from 1 year to 10 years old,about 0.23 dB SPL from 11 years to 25 years old,and about 0.14 dB SPL from 26 years to 60 years old.（3） The signal-to-noise ratio in the frequency bands centered at 1.5,2,3 and 4 kHz decreased with increasing age after 2 months of *** negative correlations between the signal-to-noise ratio and age were found for frequency bands ranging from 1.5 kHz to 4 kHz,with the hig

Carbon-coated cubic-phase molybdenum carbide nanoparticle for enhanced photocatalytic H2-evolution performance of TiO_(2)

Conventional hexagonal dimolybdenum carbide(Mo2 C) as a good cocatalyst has been widely applied for the enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen production of various photocatalysts. Compared with the hexagonal Mo2 C, however, the investigation about cubic molybdenum carbide(Mo C) is still very limited in photocatalytic field. In this study, carbon-coated cubic molybdenum carbide(MoC@C) nanoparticle was synthesized and used as an effective cocatalyst to improve the H2-evolution efficiency of Ti O2. The cubic MoC@C can be obtained by adjusting the mass ratio of C3 N3(NH2)3 to(NH4)6 Mo7 O(24)(2:1) and controlling the calcination temperature to 800 °C. When the above cubic MoC@C nanoparticles were evenly loaded on the Ti O2 via a sonication-assisted deposition, a homogeneous composite of TiO2/MoC@C was formed due to the strong coupling interface between TiO2 and cubic MoC nanoparticles. More importantly, the highest H2-production rate of Ti O-12/MoC@C reached 504 μmol hg^(-1)(AQE=1.43%), which was 50 times as high as that of the pure TiO2. The enhanced performance of TiO2/MoC@C can be attributed to the synergistic effect of carbon layer as an electron mediator and the cubic MoC as interfacial H2-evolution active sites. This work provides a feasible guideline to develop high-efficiency Mo-based cocatalysts for potential applications in the H2-evolution field.

Hazard Mitigation Planning for Debris flow Based on Numerical Simulation Using Kanako Simulator

Debris flow often causes enormous loss to life and property,especially on alluvial *** structures such as retention check dams are essential to reduce the *** hazard mitigation evaluation and planning it is of significance to determine the location,size and type of dam and the effects of damage *** present a numerical simulation method using Kanako simulator for hazard mitigation planning of debris flow disaster in Tanjutani Gully,Kyoto City,*** simulations were carried out for three situations:1) the simulations of erosion,deposition,hydrograph changing and inundation when there were no mitigation measures;2) the simulations of check dams in four locations(470 m,810 m,1,210 m and 1,610 m from the upstream end) to identify the best location;3) the simulations of check dams of three types(closed,slit and grid) to analyze their effects on sediment trapping and discharge *** on the simulations,it was concluded that two closed check dams(located at 470 m and 1,610 m from the upstream end) in the channel and a drainage channel on the alluvial fan can reduce the risk on the alluvial fan to an acceptable level.

Experimental study on blocking and self-cleaning behaviors of beam dam in debris flow hazard mitigation

Blocking is one of the important features when a beam dam intercepts debris flow, while self-cleaning is another when managing suspended debris flow. Both features determine the debris flow control benefits of beam dam but the latter often is not considered in practical engineering design. In this paper, a series of specially designed flume experiments were done to simulate blocking and self-cleaning processes. The blocking ratio and deposition features were measured to contrast the blocking and self-cleaning performance before and after artificial self-cleaning. The experimental results reveal that the beam dam net opening, particle diameter of sediment, sediment concentration, and gradient of the channel are the main factors affecting blocking performance. A new criterion of blocking performance of beam dams that considers the interaction of multiple factors and can provide guidance to practical project design is proposed. For all three types of blocking, sediment deposited upstream of a beam dam can be effectively transported downstream by erosion from post-debris-flow floods, Self-cleaning performance is most efficient for temporary blocking, followed by partial-blocking, and total-blocking. The efficiency of selfcleaning largely depends on the change of the sediment deposit due to erosion. Finally, a discussion is given for the optimal design of an open-type check dam and the feasibility of synergistic effects of selfcleaning in combination with artificial cleaning. Some supporting artificial silt-cleaning should be implemented in practice. A beam dam will, thus, have more storage capacity with which to control the next debris flow event.

Influence of C/Ti stoichiometry in TiC_x on the grain refinement efficiency of Al–Ti–C master alloy

TiC_x contained Al-Ti-C is a kind of grain refiner for Al alloys. In this work, the influence of C/Ti stoichiometry, i.e. the x value in TiC_x on grain refinement efficiency was investigated. TiC_x particles have been obtained in five Al-5Ti-m C（m = 0.1, 0.5, 0.8, 1, 1.25） master alloys and the x values were measured to be0.72, 0.75, 0.79, 0.81 and 0.8, respectively. It was found that the refinement performance of the master alloys had a close relationship with the x value of TiC_x . The Al-5Ti-m C alloy with lower-x TiC_x shows better refinement efficiency and anti-fading capability. It is supposed that TiC_x particles with lower x are more preferred to release Ti atoms during nucleating process and have a better Ti-absorbing *** contributes to the Ti-rich zone formation at TiC_x /melt interface, thus enhancing the refinement and anti-fading capability.

Characterization of spontaneous otoacoustic emissions in 2–4 day old neonates with respect to gender and ear

BACKGROUND： Spontaneous otoacoustic emissions （SOAEs） are regarded as a valuable audio- metric parameter that objectively reflects the function of outer hair cells （OHCs）. Many studies have reported that the incidence of SOAEs in adults is less than 50%. Therefore, measurement of SOAEs may be of little value to clinical examinations. However, the incidence of SOAEs in infants and neonates is higher than in adults. OBJECTIVE： To analyze the basic characteristics of SOAEs in 2–4 day old neonates, and to demonstrate the difference in OHC function between sexes and ears. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： Neurophysiological contrast study, performed in the Department of Neonates, Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, Capital Medical University, between December 2007 and August 2008. PARTICIPANTS： A total of 112 newborns （224 ears） consisting of 59 females and 53 males were included in this study. METHODS： The probe was adapted and embedded in the neonate external auditory canal with a foam rubber earplug after checking and clearing up the outer ear canal. The presence of SOAEs was determined when the signal amplitude had a clear peak exceeding –30 dB, or was 3 dB above the noise floor. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： The incidence of SOAEs, the number of SOAE signal peaks, and the maximal tension of SOAEs. RESULTS： The incidence in females （79.7%） was higher than males （76.4%）（P 〉 0.05）, and the incidence in right ears （86.6%） was higher than in left ears （69.6%）（P 〈 0.05）. There were no significant difference in the number of SOAE peaks between females and males （4.49 vs. 4.28）, or between right ears and left ears （4.62 vs. 4.12）（P 〉 0.05）. The mean maximum SOAE level per ear in females （–3.29 ± 9.28） dB sound pressure level （SPL） was slightly higher than that in males （–3.91 ± 9.14） dB SPL （P 〉 0.05）. Also, the mean maximum SOAE level in right ears （–2.03 ± 9.11） dB SPL was higher than in left ears （–5.50 ± 9.65） dB SPL （P 〈 0.05）. The maximum SOAE level showed a positive correlati

Detection of cognitive impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome using mismatch negativity

In this experiment, 97 patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome were divided into three groups （mild, moderate, severe） according to minimum oxygen saturation, and 35 healthy subjects were examined as controls. Cognitive function was determined using the mismatch negativity paradigm and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. The results revealed that as the disease worsened, the mismatch negativity latency was gradually extended, and the amplitude gradually declined in patients with obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome. Importantly, mismatch negativity latency in severe patients with a persistent time of minimum oxygen saturation 〈 60 seconds was significantly shorter than that with a persistent time of minimum oxygen saturation 〉 60 seconds. Correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between minimum oxygen saturation latency and Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores. These findings indicate that intermittent night-time hypoxemia affects mismatch negativity waveforms and Montrea Cognitive Assessment scores. As indicators for detecting the cognitive functional status of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome patients, the sensitivity of mismatch negativity is 82.93%, the specificity is 73.33%, the accuracy rate is 81.52%, the positive predictive value is 85.00%, the negative predictive value is 70.21%, the positive likelihood ratio is 3, and the negative likelihood ratio is 0.23. These results indicate that mismatch negativity can be used as an effective tool for diagnosis of cognitive dysfunction in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome patients.
