Laser powder bed fusion of NiTiFe shape memory alloy via premixed powder: microstructural evolution, mechanical and functional properties

High-cost pre-alloyed powder is the bottleneck problem that limits the widespread application of additivemanufactured shape memory alloys. In this work, the lowcost ternary NiTiFe shape memory alloy is fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) technique via mechanically mixed pre-alloy NiTi powder and varying contents pure Fe powder (1, 2, 3 wt%). All NiTiFe alloys show a relative density of up to 99.8%by optimizing the LPBF processing parameters. Owing to the heterogeneous nucleation effect of micron-sized Fe particles, both grain refinement and texture weakening are generated in the NiTiFe alloys, accompanied by the reduction of dislocation density. For the room-temperature mechanical properties,the NiTi-3Fe alloy shows the highest microhardness of HV370, but the fracture strength and elongation reduce to1701 MPa and 23%simultaneously. The evolution of mechanical properties is attributed to the high internal defects, low dislocation density and the incoherent oxide.Moreover, the NiTi-3Fe alloy shows the quasi-linear superelasticity behavior; the superelastic recoverable strain of NiTi-1Fe and NiTi-2Fe decreased with the increase in Fe content. This study provided a new-fangled insight for the development of multi-component NiTi-based shape memory alloys by additive manufacturing.

The albumin-bilirubin(ALBI)score,which was proposed to assess the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma,has gradually been extended to other liver diseases in recent years,including primary biliary cholangitis,liver cirrhosis,hepatitis,liver transplantation,and liver injury.The ALBI score is often compared with classical scores such as the Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease scores or other noninvasive prediction models.It is widely employed because of its immunity to subjective evaluation indicators and ease of obtaining detection indicators.An increasing number of studies have confirmed that it is highly accurate for assessing the prognosis of patients with chronic liver disease;additionally,it has demonstrated good predictive performance for outcomes beyond survival in patients with liver diseases,such as decompensation events.This article presents a review of the application of ALBI scores in various non-malignant liver diseases.

Design of an automated robotic microinjection system for batch injection of zebrafish embryos and larvae

This paper presents the design of a vision-based automated robotic microinjection system for batch injection of both zebrafish embryos and larvae.A novel visual recognition algorithm based on an automatic threshold and excessive dilatation is introduced to accurately identify the center of zebrafish embryos and larval yolks.A corresponding software system is developed using the producer-consumer model as the framework structure,and a friendly user interface is designed to allow operators to choose from a range of desired functions according to their different needs.In addition,a novel microstructural agarose device is designed and fabricated to simultaneously immobilize mixed batches of embryos and larvae.Moreover,a prototype microinjection system is fabricated by integrating hardware devices with visual algorithms.An experimental study is conducted to verify the performance of the robotic microinjection system.The results show that the reported system can accurately identify zebrafish embryos and larvae and efficiently complete batch microinjection tasks of the mixtures with an injection success rate of 92.05%in 13.88 s per sample.Compared with manual and existing microinjection systems,the proposed system demonstrates the merits of versatility,excellent efficiency,high success rate,high survival rate,and sufficient stability.

Solid Desiccant Heat Pump Fresh Air Unit using Composite Silica gel

The introduction of fresh air into the indoor space leads to a significant increase in cooling or heating loads.Solid desiccant heat pump fresh air unit which can handle the latent and sensible load of fresh air efficiently have been proposed recently.To improve the performance of the solid desiccant heat pump fresh air unit in the fresh air handling process,in this paper,the application of composite silica gel in a heat pump fresh air unit was investigated.The comparison between silica gel coating(SGC) and composite silica gel coating(CSGC)shows that the adsorption rate and water uptake capacity of CSGC are more than two times higher than those of SGC.An experimental setup for the solid desiccant heat pump fresh air unit was established.The performance of SGC and CSGC was tested in the setup successively.Results show that under summer conditions,compared with the solid desiccant heat pump fresh air unit using silica gel(SGFU),the average moisture removal and COP of the one using composite silica gel(CSGFU) increased by 15% and 30%,respectively.Under winter conditions,compared with SGFU,the average humidification and COP of CSGFU increased by 42% and 17%.With optimal operation conditions of 3 min switchover time and 40 r/s compressor frequency,the COP of CSGFU under summer conditions can reach 7.6.Results also show that the CSGFU and SGFU have higher COP and dehumidification rate under higher outdoor temperature and humidity ratio.

From macroautophagy to mitophagy:Unveiling the hidden role of mitophagy in gastrointestinal disorders

In this editorial,we comment on an article titled“Morphological and biochemical characteristics associated with autophagy in gastrointestinal diseases”,which was published in a recent issue of the World Journal of Gastroenterology.We focused on the statement that“autophagy is closely related to the digestion,secretion,and regeneration of gastrointestinal cells”.With advancing research,autophagy,and particularly the pivotal role of the macroautophagy in maintaining cellular equilibrium and stress response in the gastrointestinal system,has garnered extensive study.However,the significance of mitophagy,a unique selective autophagy pathway with ubiquitin-dependent and independent variants,should not be overlooked.In recent decades,mitophagy has been shown to be closely related to the occurrence and development of gastrointestinal diseases,especially inflammatory bowel disease,gastric cancer,and colorectal cancer.The interplay between mitophagy and mitochondrial quality control is crucial for elucidating disease mechanisms,as well as for the development of novel treatment strategies.Exploring the pathogenesis behind gastrointestinal diseases and providing individualized and efficient treatment for patients are subjects we have been exploring.This article reviews the potential mechanism of mitophagy in gastrointestinal diseases with the hope of providing new ideas for diagnosis and treatment.

Multi-Objective Multi-Variable Large-Size Fan Aerodynamic Optimization by Using Multi-Model Ensemble Optimization Algorithm

The constrained multi-objective multi-variable optimization of fans usually needs a great deal of computational fluid dynamics(CFD)calculations and is time-consuming.In this study,a new multi-model ensemble optimization algorithm is proposed to tackle such an expensive optimization problem.The multi-variable and multi-objective optimization are conducted with a new flexible multi-objective infill criterion.In addition,the search direction is determined by the multi-model ensemble assisted evolutionary algorithm and the feature extraction by the principal component analysis is used to reduce the dimension of optimization variables.First,the proposed algorithm and other two optimization algorithms which prevail in fan optimizations were compared by using test functions.With the same number of objective function evaluations,the proposed algorithm shows a fast convergency rate on finding the optimal objective function values.Then,this algorithm was used to optimize the rotor and stator blades of a large axial fan,with the efficiencies as the objectives at three flow rates,the high,the design and the low flow rate.Forty-two variables were included in the optimization process.The results show that compared with the prototype fan,the total pressure efficiencies of the optimized fan at the high,the design and the low flow rate were increased by 3.35%,3.07%and 2.89%,respectively,after CFD simulations for 500 fan candidates with the constraint for the design pressure.The optimization results validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

A class of natural pinus koraiensis population system with time delay and diffusion term

In this paper,we consider the long-term sustainability of the northeast Korean pine.We propose a class of natural Korean pine population system with time delay and diffusion term.First,by analyzing the roots distribution of the characteristic equation,we study the stability of the model system with diffusion terms and prove the occurrence of Hopf bifurcation.Second,we introduce lactation time delay into a population model with a diffusion term,based on stability theory of ordinary differential equation,norm form methods and center manifold theorem,the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions and the relevant formula for the direction of Hopf bifurcation are given.Finally,some numerical simulations are given.

Configuration Synthesis and Grasping Performance Analysis of Multi-Loop Coupling Capture Mechanism for Launch and Recovery of Torpedo-Shaped Autonomous Underwater Vehicle

Research of capture mechanisms with strong capture adaptability and stable grasp is important to solve the problem of launch and recovery of torpedo-shaped autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs).A multi-loop coupling capture mechanism with strong adaptability and high retraction rate has been proposed for the launch and recovery of torpedo-shaped AUVs with different morphological features.Firstly,the principle of capturing motion retraction is described based on the appearance characteristics of torpedo-shaped AUVs,and the configuration synthesis of the capture mechanism is carried out using the method of constrained chain synthesis.Secondly,the screw theory is employed to analyze the degree of freedom(DoF)of the capture mechanism.Then,the 3D model of the capture mechanism is established,and the kinematics and dynamics simulations are carried out.Combined with the capture orientation requirements of the capture mechanism,the statics and vibration characteristics analyses are carried out.Furthermore,considering the capture process and the underwater working environment,the motion characteristics and hydraulics characteristics of the capture mechanism are analyzed.Finally,a principle prototype is developed and the torpedo-shaped AUVs capture experiment is completed.The work provides technical reserves for the research and development of AUV capture special equipment.

New dating indicates intermittent human occupation of the Nwya Devu Paleolithic site on the high-altitude central Tibetan Plateau during the past 45,000 years

The timing and mechanisms of the human occupation of the demanding high-altitude Tibetan Plateau environment are of great interest.Here,we report on our reinvestigations and dating of the Nwya Devu site,located nearly 4600 meters above sea level on the central Tibetan Plateau.A new microblade techno-complex was identified on a lower lake shore at this site,distinct from the previously reported blade tool assemblage.These two lithic assemblages were dated to 45.6±2.6 and10.3±0.5 ka using optically stimulated luminescence and accelerator mass spectrometry^(14)C methods.They represent,respectively,the earliest known Paleolithic and microlithic sites on the interior Tibetan Plateau,indicating multiple occupation episodes of hunter-gatherers during the past 45 ka.Our studies reveal that relatively stable depositional conditions and a paleoenvironment characterized by a comparatively warm climate facilitated these multiple occupations at Nwya Devu.The contemporaneous occurrence of the Upper Paleolithic blade technology on the Tibetan Plateau and most of Eurasia between 50 and 40 ka indicates rapid,large-scale dispersals of humans that profoundly affected human demography on a large scale.Combining new archaeological evidence and previously reported genetic data,we conclude that the Tibetan Plateau provided a relatively stable habitat for Upper Paleolithic hunter-gatherers,which may have contributed to the complex and multiple-origin gene pool of present-day Tibetans.

Uncontrolled growth of lithium dendrite will lead to low Coulombic efficiency and poor cycle stability,which hinders the commercialization of lithium metal batteries.Herein,a novel modified lithium anode with reduced graphene oxide conductive network containing trace lithiophilic phosphorus(P-rGO/Cu)is prepared by electrospraying technique combined with heat treatment process.The rGO layer has a concave and undulating conductive structure,which can significantly improve the effective electrical contact between lithium metal and the current collector,speed up the kinetics of interfacial electron transport and reaction,and improve the resistance of the negative electrode to the internal stress caused by volume change of the lithium,which is advantageous for the stability of the SEI film.The extremely small and uniformly distributed red phosphorus element avoids the volume change caused by lithiation to the maximum extent.Lithiophilic two-phase compound Li_(3)P obtained by alloying P with Li can directionally induce the homogeneous nucleation and dense deposition of lithium metal,address the issue of lithium dendrites and extend the cycle life of the batteries.The obtained P-rGO/Cu exhibits excellent electrochemical performance with an average Coulombic efficiency(CE)of 98%at a current density of 1 mA·cm^(−2) for 400 cycles,and the capacity retention rate of the full cell matched with lithium iron phosphate(LFP)is 83%after 400 cycles at 1C.
