Purpose: Professional high speed sea navigational procedures are based on turn points, courses, dangers and steering cues in the environment. Since navigational aids have become less expensive and due to the fact that electronic sea charts can be integrated with both radar and transponder information, it may be assumed that traditional navigation by using paper based charts and radar will play a less significant role in the future, especially among less experienced navigators. Possible navigational differences between experienced and non-experienced boat drivers is thus of interest with regards to their use of navigational aids. It may be assumed that less experienced navigators rely too much on the information given by the electronic sea chart, despite the fact that it is based on GPS information that can be questioned, especially in littoral waters close to land. Method: This eye tracking study investigates gaze behaviour from 16 ex perienced and novice boat drivers during high speed navigation at sea. Results: The results show that the novice drivers look at objects that are close to themselves, like instrumentation, while the experienced look more at objects far away from the boat. This is in accordance with previous research on car drivers. Further, novice boat drivers used the electronic navigational aids to a larger extent than the experienced, especially during high speed conditions. The experienced drivers focused much of their attention on objects outside the boat. Conclusions: The findings verify that novice boat drivers tend to rely on electronic navigational aids. Experienced drivers presumably use the navigational aids to verify what they have observed in the surrounding environment and further use the paper based sea chart to a larger extent than the novice drivers.

Calculation of CO Behavior in the Platform for Deeply Underground Subway Station with Different Fire Strengths

Effect of different fire strengths on the smoke distribution in the subway station is investigated. Shin-Gum-Ho station （line #5） in Seoui is selected as a case study for variation of CO （carbon monoxide） distribution caused by the fire in the platform. The ventilation in the station is set to be an air supply mod in the lobby and an air exhaustion mod in the platform. One-side main tunnel ventilation （7,000 m3/min） is applied to operate in the tunnel. The fire is assumed to break out in the middle of train parked in the platform tunnel. Two kinds of fire strength are used. One is 10 MW and the other is 20 MW. Ventilation diffusers in the station are modeled as 317 square shapes ＆ four rectangular shapes in the lobby and platform. The total of 7.5 million grids is generated and whole domain is divided to 22 blocks for parallel computation. Large eddy simulation method is applied to solve the momentum equation. The behavior of CO is calculated according to different fire strengths and compared with each other.

A Comparison Study of Hydrogen Storage Thermodynamics and Kinetics of YMg11Ni Alloy Prepared by Melt Spinning and Ball Milling

Melt spinning （MS） and ball milling （BM） were employed to fabricate YMg11Ni alloy, and their structures and hydrogen storage performances were examined. The results reveal that the as-spun and as-milled alloys both exhibit the nanocrystalline and amorphous structure. The as-milled alloy shows a larger hydrogen absorption capacity as compared with the as-spun alloy. More than that, the as-milled alloy exhibits lower onset hydrogen desorption temperature than the as-spun one, which are 549.8 and 560.9 K, respectively. Additionally, the as-milled alloy shows a superior hydrogen desorption property to the as-spun one. On the basis of the time needed by desorbing hydrogen of 3 wt% H2, for the as- milled alloy, it needs 1106, 456, 343, and 180 s corresponding to hydrogen desorption temperatures of 593, 613, 633, and 653 K. However, for the as-spun alloy, the time needed is greater than 2928, 842, 356, and 197 s corresponding to the same temperatures. Hydrogen desorption activation energies of as-milled and as-spun alloys are 98.01 and 105.49 kJ/mol, respectively, which is responsible for that the as-milled alloy possesses a much faster dehydriding rate. By means of the measurement of pressure-composition-temperature （P-C-T） curves, the dehydrogenation enthalpy change of the alloys prepared by MS （△hoe（MS）） and BM （△Hdc（BM）） is 81.84 and 79.46 kJ/mol, respectively, viz. △Hde（MS）〉 △Hoc（BM）.
