Versatile control of concentration gradients in non-fullerene acceptor-based bulk heterojunction films using solvent rinse treatments

Solvent rinse treatments using polar methanol(Me oh)and nonpolar n-hexane have been developed for controlling material concentration gradients along the longitudinal direction of non-fullerene acceptor-based bulk heterojunction(BHJ)films comprised of electron donor polymer,PBDB-T and acceptor,ITIC-m.Before the used solvents(chlorobenzene with 1 vol%DIO)were completely evaporated,ITIC-m rich domains were formed at the top surface of the BHJ films after they were rinsed with Me oh,as evidenced by water contact angle,atomic force microscopy,time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectroscopy,which led to enhanced electron transport in the conventional structure of organic solar cells(OSCs).In contrast,after rinsing with n-hexane,ITIC-m rich domains were formed at the bottom surface of the films,which improved electron transport in the inverted structure OSCs.The enhanced carrier transports increased the PCEs(11.80%and 11.15%)in both conventional and inverted OSCs by 10.29%and 10.35%compared with control devices.The versatile control of material concentration gradients is determined to be feasible owing to the chemical interaction of the used substrates(glass,PEDOT:PSS,and Zn O)and rinsing solvents.

Bulk heterojunction(BHJ)composites show improved power conversion efficiencies when optimized in terms of morphology using various film processing methods.A reduced carrier recombination loss in an optimized BHJ was characterized previously.However,the driving force that leads to this reduction was not clearly understood.In this study,we focus on the decreased carrier recombination loss and its driving force in optimized nonfullerene acceptor-based PTB7-Th:IEICO-4F BHJ composites.We demonstrate that the optimized BHJ shows deactivation in the sub-nanosecond nongeminate carrier recombination process.The driving force for this deactivation was determined to be the improved interchain hole delocalization between the polymers.An enhanced interchain hole delocalization was observed using steady-state photoinduced absorption(PIA)spectroscopy.In particular,increased splitting between the polaron PIA bands was noted.Moreover,improved interchain hole delocalization was observed for other state-of-the-art BHJ materials,including D18:Y6 with optimized morphologies.

Polymers play an important role in hybrid enhanced oil recovery (EOR), which involves both a polymer and low-salinity water. Because the polymer commonly used for low-salinity polymer flooding (LSPF) is strongly sensitive to brine pH, its efficiency can deteriorate in carbonate reservoirs containing highly acidic formation water. In this study, polymer efficiency in an acidic carbonate reservoir was investigated experimentally for different salinity levels and SO42− concentrations. Results indicated that lowering salinity improved polymer stability, resulting in less polymer adsorption, greater wettability alteration, and ultimately, higher oil recovery. However, low salinity may not be desirable for LSPF if the injected fluid does not contain a sufficient number of sulfate (SO42−) ions. Analysis of polymer efficiency showed that more oil can be produced with the same polymer concentration by adjusting the SO42− content. Therefore, when river water, which is relatively easily available in onshore fields, is designed to be injected into an acidic carbonate reservoir, the LSPF method proposed in this study can be a reliable and environmentally friendly method with addition of a sufficient number of SO42− ions to river water.

Recently,to build a smart factory,research has been conducted to perform fault diagnosis and defect detection based on vibration and noise signals generated when a mechanical system is driven using deep-learning technology,a field of artificial intelligence.Most of the related studies apply various audio-feature extraction techniques to one-dimensional raw data to extract sound-specific features and then classify the sound by using the derived spectral image as a training dataset.However,compared to numerical raw data,learning based on image data has the disadvantage that creating a training dataset is very time-consuming.Therefore,we devised a two-step data preprocessing method that efficiently detects machine anomalies in numerical raw data.In the first preprocessing process,sound signal information is analyzed to extract features,and in the second preprocessing process,data filtering is performed by applying the proposed algorithm.An efficient dataset was built formodel learning through a total of two steps of data preprocessing.In addition,both showed excellent performance in the training accuracy of the model that entered each dataset,but it can be seen that the time required to build the dataset was 203 s compared to 39 s,which is about 5.2 times than when building the image dataset.

Multi-objective optimization of the cathode catalyst layer micro-composition of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells using a multi-scale,two-phase fuel cell model and data-driven surrogates

Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs)are considered a promising alternative to internal combustion engines in the automotive sector.Their commercialization is mainly hindered due to the cost and effectiveness of using platinum(Pt)in them.The cathode catalyst layer(CL)is considered a core component in PEMFCs,and its composition often considerably affects the cell performance(V_(cell))also PEMFC fabrication and production(C_(stack))costs.In this study,a data-driven multi-objective optimization analysis is conducted to effectively evaluate the effects of various cathode CL compositions on Vcelland Cstack.Four essential cathode CL parameters,i.e.,platinum loading(L_(Pt)),weight ratio of ionomer to carbon(wt_(I/C)),weight ratio of Pt to carbon(wt_(Pt/c)),and porosity of cathode CL(ε_(cCL)),are considered as the design variables.The simulation results of a three-dimensional,multi-scale,two-phase comprehensive PEMFC model are used to train and test two famous surrogates:multi-layer perceptron(MLP)and response surface analysis(RSA).Their accuracies are verified using root mean square error and adjusted R^(2).MLP which outperforms RSA in terms of prediction capability is then linked to a multi-objective non-dominated sorting genetic algorithmⅡ.Compared to a typical PEMFC stack,the results of the optimal study show that the single-cell voltage,Vcellis improved by 28 m V for the same stack price and the stack cost evaluated through the U.S department of energy cost model is reduced by$5.86/k W for the same stack performance.

Dental primary afferent(DPA)neurons and proprioceptive mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus(MTN)neurons,located in the trigeminal ganglion and the brainstem,respectively,are essential for controlling masticatory functions.Despite extensive transcriptomic studies on various somatosensory neurons,there is still a lack of knowledge about the molecular identities of these populations due to technical challenges in their circuit-validated isolation.Here,we employed high-depth single-cell RNA sequencing(scRNA-seq)in combination with retrograde tracing in mice to identify intrinsic transcriptional features of DPA and MTN neurons.Our transcriptome analysis revealed five major types of DPA neurons with cell type-specific gene enrichment,some of which exhibit unique mechano-nociceptive properties capable of transmitting nociception in response to innocuous mechanical stimuli in the teeth.Furthermore,we discovered cellular heterogeneity within MTN neurons that potentially contribute to their responsiveness to mechanical stretch in the masseter muscle spindles.Additionally,DPA and MTN neurons represented sensory compartments with distinct molecular profiles characterized by various ion channels,receptors,neuropeptides,and mechanoreceptors.Together,our study provides new biological insights regarding the highly specialized mechanosensory functions of DPA and MTN neurons in pain and proprioception.

Effective smart healthcare frameworks contain novel and emerging solutions for remote disease diagnostics,which aid in the prevention of several diseases including heart-related abnormalities.In this context,regular monitoring of cardiac patients through smart healthcare systems based on Electrocardiogram(ECG)signals has the potential to save many lives.In existing studies,several heart disease diagnostic systems are proposed by employing different state-of-the-art methods,however,improving such methods is always an intriguing area of research.Hence,in this research,a smart healthcare system is proposed for the diagnosis of heart disease using ECG signals.The proposed framework extracts both linear and time-series information on the ECG signals and fuses them into a single framework concurrently.The linear characteristics of ECG signals are extracted by convolution layers followed by Gaussian Error Linear Units(GeLu)and time series characteristics of ECG beats are extracted by Vanilla Long Short-Term Memory Networks(LSTM).Following on,the feature reduction of linear information is done with the help of ID Generalized Gated Pooling(GGP).In addition,data misbalancing issues are also addressed with the help of the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique(SMOTE).The performance assessment of the proposed model is done over the two publicly available datasets named MIT-BIH arrhythmia database(MITDB)and PTB Diagnostic ECG database(PTBDB).The proposed framework achieves an average accuracy performance of 99.14%along with a 95%recall value.
