Warming intensified the effects of nitrogen addition on N_(2)O emissions from alpine meadow in the northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Warming and nitrogen(N)addition may impact soil nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)emissions,but the relationship between plant community composition and soil microbial activities remains unclear.For a two-year field study in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,open-top chambers were used to quantify the effects of warming,N-addition,and their interactions on N_(2)O emissions.We found that the N-addition greatly increased N_(2)O emissions by 77.4%in 2018 when compared to the control group.In contrast,warming showed little effect on N_(2)0 emissions but did increase the activity of enzymes associated with soil nitrification and denitrification.A combined effect of warming and N-addition of resulted in 208.6%(2018)and 90.8%(2019)increase in N_(2)0 emissions,respectively,compared to the individual treatments of warming or N-addition.Global warming in alpine meadows is causally linked to increased legume biomass which is further intensified with the N-addition.Intensified legume biomass(pming further intensifies this effect.The increased dominance of legumes and microbial N content contributes to this effect.These outcomes suggest that warming and atmospheric N deposition can stimulate N_(2)O emissions of alpine meadows inthefuture.

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC)is the most common malignant tumor and ranks third for cancer-related deaths among the worldwide.The disease poses a serious public health problem in China,ranking fifth for incidence and third for mortality.Knowledge of the invasive depth of the tumor is vital to treatment decisions.AIM To evaluate the diagnostic performance of double contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(DCEUS)for preoperative T staging in patients with GC by comparing with multi-detector computed tomography(MDCT).METHODS This single prospective study enrolled patients with GC confirmed by preoperative gastroscopy from July 2021 to March 2023.Patients underwent DCEUS,including ultrasonography(US)and intravenous contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(CEUS),and MDCT examinations for the assessment of preoperative T staging.Features of GC were identified on DCEUS and criteria developed to evaluate T staging according to the 8th edition of AJCC cancer staging manual.The diagnostic performance of DCEUS was evaluated by comparing it with that of MDCT and surgical-pathological findings were considered as the gold standard.RESULTS A total of 229 patients with GC(80 T1,33 T2,59 T3 and 57 T4)were included.Overall accuracies were 86.9%for DCEUS and 61.1%for MDCT(P<0.001).DCEUS was superior to MDCT for T1(92.5%vs 70.0%,P<0.001),T2(72.7%vs 51.5%,P=0.041),T3(86.4%vs 45.8%,P<0.001)and T4(87.7%vs 70.2%,P=0.022)staging of GC.CONCLUSION DCEUS improved the diagnostic accuracy of preoperative T staging in patients with GC compared with MDCT,and constitutes a promising imaging modality for preoperative evaluation of GC to aid individualized treatment decision-making.

Measurement of the neutron-induced total cross sections of ^(nat)Pb from 0.3 eV to 20 MeV on the Back-n at CSNS

The neutron-induced total cross sections of natural lead have been measured in a wide energy range(0.3 eV-20 MeV)on the back-streaming white neutron beamline(Back-n)at the China Spallation Neutron Source.Neutron energy was determined by the neutron total cross-section spectrometer using the time-of-flight technique.A fast multi-cell fission chamber was used as the neutron detector,and a 10-mm-thick high-purity natural lead sample was employed for the neutron transmission measurements.The on-beam background was determined using Co,In,Ag,and Cd filters.The excitation function of ^(nat)Pb(n,tot)reaction below 20 MeV was calculated using the TALYS-1.96 nuclear-reaction modeling program.The present results were compared with previous results,the evaluated data available in the five major evaluated nuclear data libraries(i.e.,ENDF/B-VIII.0,JEFF-3.3,JENDL-5,CENDL-3.2,and BROND-3.1),and the theoretical calculation curve.Good agreement was found between the new results and those of previous experiments and with the theoretical curves in the corresponding region.This measurement obtained the neutron total cross section of natural lead with good accuracy over a wide energy range and added experimental data in the resonance energy range.This provides more reliable experimental data for nuclear engineering design and nuclear data evaluation of lead.

To the Editor:Metabolic syndrome(MetS)is defined as a set of metabolic disorders including abdominal obesity,hyperglycemia,hypertension,and dyslipidemia.[1]As thyroid hormones are essential for cellular energy homeostasis and regulation,the levels of serum thyroid hormones are considered to be associated with various metabolic parameters.Over the past decade,the association between thyroid hormones and MetS has been extensively studied in euthyroid subjects,leading to inconsistent results.Some studies suggested that a high level of thyrotropin(TSH)contributed to the increased incidence of MetS or unfavorable metabolic parameters,whereas other studies found no such correlation.Moreover,some researches have shown that free thyroxin(FT4)levels were inversely proportional to various unfavorable metabolic parameters or MetS,while other studies suggested that FT4 levels have no such association or even a positive association with some unfavorable metabolic components after adjustment.These conflicting results may result from different designs,settings,race,exclusion criteria,adjustments,statistical analyses,and definitions of MetS and population iodine intake.Based on these,our study aimed to evaluate the association and causal relationship between thyroid hormones and MetS in people with normal thyroid function through standard epidemiological and Mendelian randomization analysis.

本文使用来自大西洋海域5218个探空仪和西北太平洋海域448个探空仪资料,以及全球海表面温度资料、热带气旋路径资料和强度统计预测方案资料,分析了46个大西洋飓风和11个西北太平洋台风所处的环境特征和边界层结构,并对热带气旋快速增强时的边界层结构做了进一步研究.结果表明:两海域增强组热带气旋更多地受到偏北的垂直风切变的影响,增强组热带气旋所处的环境也明显比减弱组热带气旋要更加湿热;且与大西洋飓风相比,西北太平洋台风所处的环境相对湿度更大,海洋热容量亦较高;从径向分布特征来看,增强组的热带气旋总体而言边界层更加温暖,比湿相对较低;相比于快速减弱的飓风,快速增强的飓风所受到的中低层垂直风切变方向更偏向北方,所处环境更湿热,温度分布更对称,但比湿较小.研究结果能为热带气旋的强度预报特别是快速增强(减弱)的预报提供参考.

Efficient micrometer-scale thick-film perovskite solar cells with superior stability

It is essential to enhance the thickness of the absorber layer for perovskite solar cells(PSCs) to improve device performance and reduce industry refinement.However,thick perovskite films(> 1 μm) are difficult to be fabricated by employing traditional solvents,such as N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF),dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO).Besides,it is a challenge to fabricate thick-film perovskite owing to the deteriorated surface morphology and serious defect density.Herein,a simple method was reported to deposit uniform pinhole-free perovskite films with a thickness of more than 2 μm utilizing the methylamine acetate(MAAc) ionic liquid as the solvent.Combined with methylammonium chloride(MACl) as an additive,thick-film perovskite with～ 2μm in grain size and few grain boundaries(GBs) was prepared,which dramatically improved the perovskite crystal quality and enhanced carrier transport performance.The final PSCs exhibited a power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 20.16%.The device showed improved stability with 95% of its initial efficiency in a nitrogen environment over 5000 h.This work provides an alternative strategy to produce extremely efficient and stable thick-film PSCs.It can be believed that this device has great potential in the application of large areas and laminated PSCs.

Topological laser on square lattice with gain–loss-induced higher-order corner modes

We investigate the higher-order topological laser in the two-dimensional(2D) coupled-cavity array. By adding staggered on-site gain and loss to the 2D Hermitian array with a trivial phase, the system will emerge degenerate topological corner modes, which are protected by bulk band gap. For such a non-Hermitian model, by adjusting the parameters of the system and introducing the pumping into the cavity at the corner, a single-mode lasing with topological protection emerges.Furthermore, single-mode lasing exists over a wide range of pumping strengths. No matter where the cavity is initially stimulated, after enough time evolution, all the cavities belonging to the topological corner mode can emit a stable laser.

Boswellic acids is a general term for a series of pentacyclic triterpenoid compounds that are isolated from the oleogin resin of the Boswellia genus and serve as the main active ingredient.It exhibits a wide range of biological activities,such as anti-inflammatory,anti-cancer,antibacterial,antiviral,hepatoprotective,neuroprotective,anti-diabetic,and anti-thrombotic properties.As a result,it has gained significant recognition among practitioners of traditional Chinese and Indian medicine.These biological effects may be associated with multiple molecular targets and signal transduction pathways.However,the poor pharmacokinetic properties of the substance lead to lower bioavailability,which affects its effectiveness.To address this issue,scientists have proposed a number of strategies,such as solid dispersions,phytosome®technologies,and novel drug delivery systems.This article aims to provide a comprehensive overview for boswellic acids on the phytochemistry,molecular mechanisms,potential therapeutic applications,and strategies to improve bioavailability.

Effects of Surface Flux Parameterization on the Numerically Simulated Intensity and Structure of Typhoon Morakot(2009)

The effects of surface flux parameterizations on tropical cyclone（TC） intensity and structure are investigated using the Advanced Research Weather Research and Forecasting（WRF-ARW） modeling system with high-resolution simulations of Typhoon Morakot（2009）.Numerical experiments are designed to simulate Typhoon Morakot（2009） with different formulations of surface exchange coefficients for enthalpy（C_K） and momentum（C_D） transfers,including those from recent observational studies based on in situ aircraft data collected in Atlantic hurricanes.The results show that the simulated intensity and structure are sensitive to C_K and C_D,but the simulated track is not.Consistent with previous studies,the simulated storm intensity is found to be more sensitive to the ratio of C_K/C_D than to C_K or C_D alone.The pressure-wind relationship is also found to be influenced by the exchange coefficients,consistent with recent numerical studies.This paper emphasizes the importance of C_D and C_K on TC structure simulations.The results suggest that C_D and C_K have a large impact on surface wind and flux distributions,boundary layer heights,the warm core,and precipitation.Compared to available observations,the experiment with observed C_D and C_K generally simulated better intensity and structure than the other experiments,especially over the ocean.The reasons for the structural differences among the experiments with different C_D and C_K setups are discussed in the context of TC dynamics and thermodynamics.

苏南五市秋冬季PM_(2.5)化学组成特征和空间差异

于2020年9月至2021年2月在苏南五市(南京、苏州、无锡、常州和镇江)收集PM_(2.5)滤膜样品,分析了各样品中的水溶性无机离子和碳质组分.结果表明,苏南五市PM_(2.5)各组分中ρ(NO_(3)^(-))均为最高[(9.54±10.1)^(12.1±11.3)μg·m^(-3)],比其它目标组分高约2倍以上.由于受更多道路扬尘和燃煤源的影响,常州市PM_(2.5)中Ca^(2+)、Cl^(-)、OC和EC的浓度平均值高于其它4个城市.将所有目标组分浓度相加得到重构PM_(2.5)(r PM_(2.5))浓度,发现各城市r PM_(2.5)浓度均由二次无机离子(NH_(4)^(+)、NO_(3)^(-)和SO_(4)^(2-),SNA)主导,占比高达(59.2%±11.1%)^(70.8%±9.72%),且r PM_(2.5)浓度平均值在不同城市间无显著性差异(P>0.05).苏南五市ρ(r PM_(2.5))日均值>35μg·m^(-3)的情形主要发生在冬季,且出现的日期相同,此期间r PM_(2.5)中NO_(3)^(-)占比[(35.5%±6.64%)^(43.3%±6.48%)]远高于其它时间[(23.7%±9.87%)^(28.5±10.4%)].各目标组分在不同城市间的相关系数和离散系数计算结果表明,受二次源主导化学组分的浓度在时间变化趋势和数值大小上均具有高度的空间相似性.因此,减少PM_(2.5)二次组分前体物的排放和加强区域间的联防联控是进一步改善苏南城市地区PM_(2.5)污染的重要途径.
