Boosting Hydrogen Storage Performance of MgH_(2) by Oxygen Vacancy-Rich H-V_(2)O_(5) Nanosheet as an Excited H-Pump

MgH_(2) is a promising high-capacity solid-state hydrogen storage material,while its application is greatly hindered by the high desorption temperature and sluggish kinetics.Herein,intertwined 2D oxygen vacancy-rich V_(2)O_(5) nanosheets(H-V_(2)O_(5))are specifically designed and used as catalysts to improve the hydrogen storage properties of MgH_(2).The as-prepared MgH_(2)-H-V_(2)O_(5) composites exhibit low desorption temperatures(Tonset=185℃)with a hydrogen capacity of 6.54 wt%,fast kinetics(Ea=84.55±1.37 kJ mol^(-1) H_(2) for desorption),and long cycling stability.Impressively,hydrogen absorption can be achieved at a temperature as low as 30℃ with a capacity of 2.38 wt%within 60 min.Moreover,the composites maintain a capacity retention rate of~99%after 100 cycles at 275℃.Experimental studies and theoretical calculations demonstrate that the in-situ formed VH_(2)/V catalysts,unique 2D structure of H-V_(2)O_(5) nanosheets,and abundant oxygen vacancies positively contribute to the improved hydrogen sorption properties.Notably,the existence of oxygen vacancies plays a double role,which could not only directly accelerate the hydrogen ab/de-sorption rate of MgH_(2),but also indirectly affect the activity of the catalytic phase VH_(2)/V,thereby further boosting the hydrogen storage performance of MgH_(2).This work highlights an oxygen vacancy excited“hydrogen pump”effect of VH_(2)/V on the hydrogen sorption of Mg/MgH_(2).The strategy developed here may pave a new way toward the development of oxygen vacancy-rich transition metal oxides catalyzed hydride systems.

Characteristics of orthorhombic anisotropic seismic response induced by horizontal in situ stress in vertical transversely isotropic media

Sedimentary strata typically exhibit the characteristics of transverse isotropy(VTI)with a vertical axis of symmetry.However,fractures in sedimentary strata tend to produce anisotropic closure due to horizontal in situ stress,resulting in pronounced orthorhombic anisotropy in VTI media under such stress conditions and influencing the propagation behavior of seismic waves.Previous studies have primarily focused on the elastic wave velocity anisotropy induced by applied stress in isotropic background media,neglecting the impact of VTI background media on the anisotropy induced by horizontal in situ stress and the response characteristics of seismic wave propagation.To address these gaps,we first establish the effective elastic stiffness tensor of VTI media under horizontal in situ stress using nonlinear acoustoelastic theory.Then,we derive the accurate and linearized approximate equations for P-wave seismic reflectivity of VTI media under horizontal in situ stress,based on wave equations and scattering theory,respectively.Finally,we compare and analyze the characteristics of orthorhombic anisotropic seismic response induced by horizontal in situ stress at various types of elastic reflection interfaces.Our results demonstrate that the linearized approximation of the seismic reflection response characteristics closely aligns with the accurate equations under conditions of small stress below 10 MPa,effectively capturing the azimuth-dependent orthorhombic anisotropy induced by horizontal in situ stress in VTI media.The results of this study also provide a novel theoretical approach and valuable insights into the seismic prediction of in situ stress.

Bioprinting of inorganic-biomaterial/neural-stem-cell constructs for multiple tissue regeneration and functional recovery

Tissue regeneration is a complicated process that relies on the coordinated effort of the nervous, vascular and immune systems. While the nervous system plays a crucial role in tissue regeneration, current tissue engineering approaches mainly focus on restoring the function of injury-related cells, neglecting the guidance provided by nerves. This has led to unsatisfactory therapeutic outcomes. Herein, we propose a new generation of engineered neural constructs from the perspective of neural induction, which offers a versatile platform for promoting multiple tissue regeneration. Specifically, neural constructs consist of inorganic biomaterials and neural stem cells(NSCs), where the inorganic biomaterials endows NSCs with enhanced biological activities including proliferation and neural differentiation. Through animal experiments, we show the effectiveness of neural constructs in repairing central nervous system injuries with function recovery. More importantly, neural constructs also stimulate osteogenesis, angiogenesis and neuromuscular junction formation, thus promoting the regeneration of bone and skeletal muscle, exhibiting its versatile therapeutic performance. These findings suggest that the inorganic-biomaterial/NSC-based neural platform represents a promising avenue for inducing the regeneration and function recovery of varying tissues and organs.

RNA acC modification in cancer biology: from regulatory mechanisms to clinical applications

RNA modifications are increasingly recognized for their significance in diverse physiological and pathological processes,with over 170 types of chemical modifications having been discovered since the1960s. Among these modifications, N4-acetylcytidine(ac4C) is the first acetylated modification identified on eukaryotic RNAs, previously reported in transfer RNA(tRNA) and ribosomal RNA(rRNA),and subsequently found in messenger RNA(mRNA). At present, the methods reported for detecting ac4C modification encompass borohydride-based Sanger sequencing, LC-MS/HPLC-MS, HPLC-CE,acRIP-seq, affinity reagents in vitro transcription(IVT), and more(Jin et al.,2020). The N4 position of cytosine can be acetylated by ac4C “writer”, with Nacetyltransferase 10(NAT10) currently recognized as the sole enzyme responsible for ac4C acetylation. Figure 1 illustrates the biological roles and related mechanisms of ac4C modification in various cancers. Collectively, ac4C modification can regulate various aspects of tumor biology, including proliferation, metastasis, metabolism, drug resistance, ferroptosis and apoptosis, by influencing RNA stability and translation. This ultimately contributes to tumor development.

Metabolomics signature of blood pressure salt sensitivity and its link to cardiovascular disease:A dietary salt-intervention trial

Individuals with a high degree of salt sensitivity(SS) have a greater risk of cardiovascular disease(CVD),but whether SS fosters CVD by influencing metabolomics homeostasis remains unclear.This study aimed to reveal the role of the SS-related metabolomics signature in the development of CVDs,based on the Meta Salt study,which was a dietary salt-intervention trial conducted at four centers in China in 2019.A total of 528 participants were recruited and underwent 3 days of baseline observations,a 10-day low-salt intervention,and a 10-day highsalt intervention.Plasma untargeted metabolomics,lipidomics,and BP measurements were scheduled at each stage.Participants were grouped into extreme SS,moderate SS,and salt-resistant(SR) individuals according to their BP responses to salt.Linear mixed models were used to identify SS-related metabolites and determine the relationship between the SS-related metabolomics signature and arterial stiffness.Mendelian randomization(MR) analyses were applied to establish the causal pathways among the SS-related metabolites,BP,and CVDs.Among the 713 metabolites,467 were significantly changed after the high-salt intervention.Among them,the changes in 30 metabolites from the low-salt to the high-salt intervention differed among the SS groups.Of the remaining nonsalt-related metabolites,the baseline levels of 11 metabolites were related to SS.These 41 metabolites explained 23% of the variance in SS.Moreover,SS and its metabolomics signature were positively correlated with arterial stiffness.MR analyses demonstrated that the SS-related metabolites may affect CVD risk by altering BP,indicating that the increase in BP was the consequence of the changes in SS-related metabolites rather than the cause.Our study revealed that the metabolomics signature of SS individuals differs from that of SR individuals and that the changes in SS-related metabolites may increase arterial stiffness and foster CVDs.This study provides insight into understanding the biology and targets of SS and its role in CVDs.

Parallelization of pseudo-particle modeling and its application in simulating gas-solid fluidization

Pseudo-Particle Modeling （PPM） is a particle method proposed by Ge and Li in 1996 [Ge, W., ＆ Li, J. （1996）. Pseudo-particle approach to hydrodynamics of particle-fluid systems, in M. Kwauk ＆ J. Li （Eds.）, Proceedings of the 5th international conference on drculating fluidized bed （pp. 260-265）. Beijing： Science Press] and has been used to explore the microscopic mechanism in complex particle-fluid systems. But as a particle method, high computational cost remains a main obstacle for its large-scale application; therefore, parallel implementation of this method is highly desirable. Parallelization of two-dimensional PPM was carried out by spatial decomposition in this paper. The time costs of the major functions in the program were analyzed and the program was then optimized for higher efficiency by dynamic load balancing and resetting of particle arrays. Finally, simulation on a gas-solid fluidized bed with 102,400 solid particles and 1.8 × 10^7 pseudo-particles was performed successfully with this code, indicating its scalability in future applications.

Background Depression,one of the most frequent complications after stroke,increases the disease’s burden and physical disability.Poststroke depression(PSD)is a multifactorial disease with genetic,environmental and biological factors involved in its occurrence.Genetic studies on PSD to date have mainly focused on the monoamine system and brain-derived neurotrophic factors.However,understanding is still limited about the influence of the single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)of other neurotrophic factors on PSD.Aims The present study aimed to investigate the relationship between seven vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)family gene variants that occur with PSD.Methods A multicentre candidate gene study from five hospitals in Jiangsu Province from June 2013 to December 2014 involved 121 patients with PSD and 131 patients with non-PSD.Demographic characteristics and neuropsychological assessments were collected.Theχ^(2)test was used to evaluate categorical variables,while the independent t-test was applied to continuous variables.SNPs in seven genes(VEGFA,VEGFB,KDR,FLT-1,IGF-1,IGF-1R and PlGF)were genotyped.Single-marker association for PSD was analysed byχ^(2)tests and logistic regression using SPSS and PLINK software.Results Patients with PSD included more women and those with lower education levels,lower body mass indexes,lower Mini-Mental State Examination scores,and higher scores on the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale than non-PSD patients.Ninety-two SNPs with seven genes were genotyped and passed quality control.The rs7692791 CC genotypes,the C allele of KDR and the rs9282715 T allele of IGF-1R increased the risk for PSD(χ^(2)=7.881,p=0.019;χ^(2)=4.259,p=0.039;χ^(2)=4.222,p=0.040,respectively).In addition,the SNP rs7692791 of KDR was significantly associated with PSD by the logistic regression of an additive model(p=0.015,OR=9.584,95%CI:1.549 to 59.31).Conclusions Patients with rs7692791 C allele carriers or the CC genotype of KDR and the rs9282715 T allele of IGF-1R may have PSD susceptibility.Findin

Mutations in mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene are one of the most important causes of aminoglycoside-induced and nonsyndromic hearing loss. Here we report the characterization of one Han Chinese pedigree with aminoglycoside-induced and nonsyndromic hearing loss. This Chinese family carrying the 12S rRNA A1555G mutation exhibited high penetrance and expressivity of heating impairment. In particular, penetrances of hearing loss in this family pedigree were 43.8% and 25%, respectively, when aminoglycoside-induced heating loss was included or excluded. Mutational analysis of entire mitochondrial genomes in this family showed the homoplasmic A1555G mutation and a set of variants belonging to haplogroup Y2. Of these, the A14693G variant occurred at the extremely conserved nucleotide （conventional position 54） of the TψC-loop of tRNA^Clu and was absent in 156 Chinese controls. Nucleotides at position 54 of tRNAs are often modified, thereby contributing to the structural formation and stabilization of functional tRNAs. Thus, the structural alteration of tRNA by the A14693G variant may lead to a failure in tRNA metabolism and impair mitochondrial protein synthesis, thereby worsening mitochondrial dysfunctions altered by the A1555G mutation. Therefore, the tRNA^Glu A14693G variant may have a potential modifier role in increasing the penetrance and expressivity of the deafness-associated A1555G mutation in this Chinese pedigree.

肉苁蓉(Cistanches)是列当科植物肉苁蓉的肉质茎,又名金笋、地精、大芸。肉苁蓉的提取物主要包括肉苁蓉总苷、苯乙醇苷类、环烯醚萜类、挥发性成分、木脂素类、多糖、生物碱等。肉苁蓉的传统中药作用有补肾壮阳、润肠通便、女子不孕、滋补强身等;现代药理作用包括抗氧化、抗凋亡、调控自噬、增强体力和抗疲劳、改善学习认知功能。相关研究表明肉苁蓉对中枢神经系统疾病具有良好的治疗效果。脑缺血再灌注损伤(Cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury,CIRI)发生常伴随着脑水肿、血脑屏障的破坏、神经炎症、神经元凋亡,肉苁蓉提取物肉苁蓉总苷可抑制神经细胞炎症及凋亡,减少脑梗死面积,对CIRI模型大鼠具有神经保护作用。肉苁蓉通过减少自由基堆积、抑制氧化应激和炎症反应,提高阿尔茨海默病(Alzheimer’s disease,AD)和血管性痴呆(Vascular dementia,Va D)模型大鼠的学习记忆能力。肉苁蓉可以改善帕金森病(Parkinson’s disease,PD)小鼠运动行为异常,发挥神经保护作用。肉苁蓉能够抑制肌萎缩侧索硬化症(Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,ALS)兴奋性氨基酸的水平,减轻神经毒性作用,改变星形胶质细胞功能,提高神经细胞存活率。目前肉苁蓉对于中枢神经系统疾病的应用越来越广泛,就其药理作用及其在中枢神经系统疾病中的研究进展进行综述,以期为肉苁蓉的开发和利用提供新的思路。
