Tanshinone ⅡA prevents acute lung injury by regulating macrophage polarization

Objective: Acute lung injury(ALI) is a serious respiratory dysfunction caused by pathogen or physical invasion. The strong induced inflammation often causes death. Tanshinone ⅡA(Tan-ⅡA) is the major constituent of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge and has been shown to display anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of the current study was to investigate the effects of Tan-ⅡA on ***: A murine model of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced ALI was used. The lungs and serum samples of mice were extracted at 3 days after treatment. ALI-induced inflammatory damages were confirmed from cytokine detections and histomorphology observations. Effects of Tan-ⅡA were investigated using in vivo and in vitro ALI models. Tan-ⅡA mechanisms were investigated by performing Western blot and flow cytometry experiments. A wound-healing assay was performed to confirm the Tan-ⅡA ***: The cytokine storm induced by LPS treatment was detected at 3 days after LPS treatment, and alveolar epithelial damage and lymphocyte aggregation were observed. Tan-ⅡA treatment attenuated the LPS-induced inflammation and reduced the levels of inflammatory cytokines released not only by inhibiting neutrophils, but also by macrophage. Moreover, we found that macrophage activation and polarization after LPS treatment were abrogated after applying the Tan-ⅡA treatment. An in vitro assay also confirmed that including the Tan-ⅡA supplement increased the relative amount of the M2 subtype and decreased that of M1. Rebalanced macrophages and Tan-ⅡA inhibited activations of the nuclear factor-κB and hypoxia-inducible factor pathways. Including Tan-ⅡA and macrophages also improved alveolar epithelial repair by regulating macrophage ***: This study found that while an LPS-induced cytokine storm exacerbated ALI, including Tan-ⅡA could prevent ALI-induced inflammation and improve the alveolar epithelial repair, and do so by regulating macrophage polarization.

Electroacupuncture at Baihui (DU20) acupoint upregulates mRNA expression of NeuroD molecules in the brains of newborn rats suffering in utero fetal distress

Study on the pyrolysis behavior of Shendong Shangwan coal and its macerals concentrate

The pyrolysis characteristics of Shendong Shangwan coal and its macerals concentrate were investigated using thermogravimetry （TG） coupled with mass spectrometry （MS）. The evolved gases were analyzed online by MS spectroscopy. The results of TG/DTG （derivative thermogravimetry） show ths vitrinite concentrate has greater weight loss rate and higher volatile yield than the other two samples. More light hydrocarbons C1-C5 are released from the vitfinite concentrate than from the Shendong Shangwan coal and inertinite concentrated in the process of pyrolysis. Three samples have similar shape curves of evolved gases of C2~C5 with different intensities. When the pyrolysis temperature was lower than 418℃, the amount of C6H6 evolved in the process of pyrolysis of inertinite concentrated was higher than that of raw coal and vitrinite concentrate. As the temperature rising, the production rate of C6H6 increased. Below 672℃, C6H6 evolution rate of vitrinite concentrate was far greater than the other two samples; the main evolution temperature range of C7H8 was 400℃ to 700℃ for the three samples. The amount of HE and H20 released first increased and then decreased with the temperature increase while more H2 released for pyrolysis of inertinite concentrated and more H20 released for the pyrolysis of vitrinite concentrate.

A squaraine based fluorescent probe for mercury ion via coordination induced deaggregation signaling

Due to the high affinity between dithiocarbamate （DTC） and Hg2＋, a fluorescent probe based on squaraine chromophore with DTC side arm for Hg2＋ via coordination induced deaggregation signaling has been designed and synthesized. Squaraine has a high tendency to aggregate in aqueous solution, and such self-aggregation usually results in a dramatic absorption spectral broadening with fluorescence emission quenching. The combination of the DTC side arm of the probe with Hg2＋ induces steric hindrance, leading to the deaggregation of the dye complex, companying with a fluorescence emission restoration. In EtOH-H2O （20：80, v/v） solution, this ＂turn on＂ fluorescent probe has high selectivity and sensitivity toward Hg2＋ over other metal ions, and the limit of detection for Hg2＋ was estimated as 2.19 × 10^-8 mol/L by 3σ/k.

Efficacy of topical vs intravenous tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss and promoting wound healing in bone surgery:A systematic review and meta-analysis

Statistics of Galactic Supernova Remnants

We collected the basic parameters of 231 supernova remnants (SNRs) in ourGalaxy, namely, distances (d) from the Sun, linear diameters (D), Galactic heights (Z), estimatedages (t), luminosities (L), surface brightness (Σ) and flux densities (S_1) at 1-GHz frequency andspectral indices (α). We tried to find possible correlations between these parameters. As expected,the linear diameters were found to increase with ages for the shell-type remnants, and also to havea tendency to increase with the Galactic heights. Both the surface brightness and luminosity ofSNRs at 1-GHz tend to decrease with the linear diameter and with age. No other relations between theparameters were found.

Polyimide covalent organic frameworks as efficient solid-state Li^(+) electrolytes

Covalent organic frameworks(COFs) are attractive porous crystalline materials with extremely high stability, easy functionalization, and open channels, which are expected to be unique ion conductors/transporters in lithium ion batteries(LIBs). Despite recent advances, low ion conductivity and low transference number, resulting in low charging/discharging rate, low energy density, and short battery life, are the main issues that limit their direct application as solid electrolytes in LIBs. Here, we designed and synthesized a novel polyimide COF, namely, TAPA-PDI-COF, with abundant C=O groups, which has been successfully employed as high-performance solid electrolytes by doping TAPA-PDI-COF and succinonitrile(SN). Both the well-defined nanochannels of COFs and SN confined in the well-aligned channels restricted the free migration of anions, while C=O on COFs and CN groups of SN enhanced Li^(+) transport, thus achieving a high ion conductivity of 0.102 m S cm^(-1)at 80 °C and a high lithium-ion transference number of 0.855 at room temperature. According to density functional theory(DFT)calculations, Li-ion migration mainly adopted in-plane transport rather than the axial pathway, which may be due to the shorter hopping distances in the planar pathway. The results suggest an effective strategy for the design and development of all-solidstate ionic conductors for achieving high-performance LIBs.

SIoTFog:Byzantine-resilient IoT fog networking

The current boom in the Internet of Things(IoT) is changing daily life in many ways, from wearable devices to connected vehicles and smart cities. We used to regard fog computing as an extension of cloud computing, but it is now becoming an ideal solution to transmit and process large-scale geo-distributed big data. We propose a Byzantine fault-tolerant networking method and two resource allocation strategies for IoT fog computing. We aim to build a secure fog network, called "SIoTFog," to tolerate the Byzantine faults and improve the efficiency of transmitting and processing IoT big data. We consider two cases, with a single Byzantine fault and with multiple faults, to compare the performances when facing different degrees of risk. We choose latency, number of forwarding hops in the transmission, and device use rates as the metrics. The simulation results show that our methods help achieve an efficient and reliable fog network.
