OBJECTIVES To evaluate the predictive value of fasting plasma glucose(FPG)for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction(AMI)with different glucose metabolism *** We selected 5,308 participants with AMI from the prospective,nationwide,multicenter CAMI registry,of which 2,081 were diabetic and 3,227 were *** were divided into high FPG and low FPG groups according to the optim-al cutoff values of FPG to predict in-hospital mortality for diabetic and nondiabetic cohorts,*** primary endpoint was in-hospital *** Overall,94 diabetic patients(4.5%)and 131 nondiabetic patients(4.1%)died during hospitalization,and the optimal FPG thresholds for predicting in-hospital death of the two cohorts were 13.2 mmol/L and 6.4 mmol/L,*** with individuals who had low FPG,those with high FPG were significantly associated with higher in-hospital mortality in diabet-ic cohort(10.1%vs.2.8%;odds ratio[OR]=3.862,95%confidence interval[CI]:2.542-5.869)and nondiabetic cohort(7.4%vs.1.7%;HR=4.542,95%CI:3.041-6.782).After adjusting the potential confounders,this significant association was not ***-more,FPG as a continuous variable was positively associated with in-hospital mortality in single-variable and multivariable models regardless of diabetic *** FPG to the original model showed a significant improvement in C-statistic and net reclassification in diabetic and nondiabetic *** This large-scale registry indicated that there is a strong positive association between FPG and in-hospital mor-tality in AMI patients with and without *** might be useful to stratify patients with AMI.

A systematic experimental study was conducted on the similarities and differences in the reactions between commonly used rare earth elements(REEs)and frequently used refractories in the steelmaking *** results indicate that the reaction behaviors of La,Ce,and Y with MgO,Al_(2)O_(3),and MgO·Al_(2)O_(3) crucibles differed *** consumption rates of La,Ce,and Y in the molten steel were in descending order of La>Ce>Y for smelting with all three kinds of *** the REEs reacted with the crucible,the contents of Mg and Al showed a trend of first increasing and then *** laboratory-scale smelting conditions,the reactions related to REEs were dominated by steel-crucible reactions,and the contact area between the unit mass of molten steel and refractory materials mainly determined the consumption rates of ***-and Ce-crucible reactions generated loose and porous reaction interfaces;however,Y-crucible reactions generated a dense Y_(2)O_(3) layer,dramatically suppressing the consumption rate of *** calculation indicated that the reactions between rare earth and different refractory materials were first-order *** crucible materials significantly affected the product type and morphology of the steel-crucible reaction interfaces,thereby influencing the consumption rate of *** reactions between REEs and refractories must be seriously considered,especially for small-scale smelting.

Effects of cold narcosis on memory acquisition, consolidation and retrieval in honeybees （Apis mellifera）

In learning and memory studies on honeybees （Apis mellifera）, cold-induced narcosis has been widely used to temporarily immobilize honeybees. In this study, we investigated the effects of cold narcosis on the associative memories in honeybees by using the proboscis extension response （PER） paradigm. Severe impairments in memory acquisition was found when cold narcosis was performed 30 rain, instead of 1 h before training. Locomotor activities were reduced when honeybees were tested 15 min, instead of 30 rain after cold narcosis. These results indicate that cold narcosis impairs locomotor activities, as well as memory acquisition in a time-dependent manner, but by comparison no such effects on memory retrieval have yet been observed.[0]

Mechanism of N-octadecyl-N′-maleoyl-L-phenylalanine self-assembled into supramolecular structures

N-Octadecyl-N1-maleoyl-L-phenylalanine （ODMA-L-Phe） was synthesized through the condensation, deprotection and acid- ylation reaction of BOC-L-phenylalanine, octadecylamine and maleic anhydride. ODMA-L-Phe can self-assemble in some organic solvents and turned them into thermally reversible physical supramolecular organogels. The morphology of ODMA-L-Phe aggregates was characterized by polarized optical microscopy （POM） and field emission scanning electron microscope （FE-SEM）. The aggregates of ODMA-L-Phe were needle-like fibrils with diameters of approximately 100-200 nm. The mechanism of ODMA- L-Phe self-assembly in organic solvents was investigated using XH NMR and circular dichroism （CD）. The results indicated that hydrogen bonding was one of the main driving forces for the self-assembly of ODMA-L-Phe.

The synthesis and bioevaluation of the dicyclic arene-homospermidine conjugates

Four novel dicyclic arene-homospermidine conjugates （6a-d） were synthesized and evaluated for cytotoxicity in L1210, α- difluoromethylomithine （DFMO） treated L1210, melanoma B16, spermidine （SPD） treated B16, and Hela cells. In the DFMOtreated L 1210 experiments, 6a-d were more sensitive to DFMO than naphthalene-homospermidine （6e）, suggesting that 6a-d can utilize the polyamine transporter （PAT） to enter the cells as well as 6e. The diminished cytotoxicity in the SPD/B 16 experiments also supported this conclusion. In summary, the homospermidine is an efficacious vector to ferry dicyclic arenes into cells via PAT.

High level of ezrin expression in colorectal cancer tissues is closely related to tumor malignancy

AIM:To investigate the ezrin expression in normal colorectal mucosa and colorectal cancer tissues, and study the correlation between ezrin expression in colorectal cancer tissues and tumor invasion and ***: Eighty paraffin-embedded cancer tissue samples were selected from primary colorectal adenocarcinoma. Twenty-eight patients had well-differentiated, 22 had moderately differentiated and 30 had poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. Forty-five patients and 35 patients had lymph node metastasis. Forty-five patients were of Dukes A to B stage, and 35 were of C to D stage. Another 22 paraffi n-embedded tissue blocks of normal colorectal epithelium (>5 cm away from the edge of the tumor) were selected as the control group. All patients with colorectal cancer were treated surgically and diagnosed histologically, without preoperative chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The immunohistochemistry was used to detect the ezrin expression in paraffin-embedded normal colorectal mucosa tissues and colorectal cancer tissue ***: Ezrin expression in colorectal cancer was significantly higher than in normal colorectal mucosa (75.00% vs 9.09%, P<0.01), and there was a close relationship between ezrin expression and the degree of tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis and Dukes stage (88.46% vs 50.00%, P<0.01; 94.28% vs 51.11%, P<0.01; 94.28% vs 51.11%, P<0.01).CONCLUSION: Ezrin expression is obviously higher in colorectal cancer tissues than in normal colorectal mucosa tissues, and the high level of ezrin expression is closely related to the colorectal cancer invasion and metastasis process.

Strong evidence for latitudinal diversity gradient in mosses across the world

Species richness generally decreases with increasing latitude,a biodiversity gradient that has long been considered as one of the few laws in *** latitudinal diversity gradient has been observed in many major groups of *** plants,the latitudinal diversity gradient has been observed in vascular plants,angiosperms,ferns,and ***,a conspicuous latitudinal diversity gradient in mosses at a global or continental scale has not been observed until ***,we analyze a comprehensive data set including moss species in each band of 20° in latitude *** results show that moss species richness decreases strongly with increasing latitude,regardless of whether the globe is considered as a whole or different longitudinal segments(e.g.,Old World versus New World) are considered *** result holds when variation in area size among latitudinal bands is taken into ***'s correlation coefficient between latitude and species richness is-0.99 for both the Northern and Southern *** bryophytes are an extant lineage of early land plants and because mosses not only include most of extant species of bryophytes but also are important constituents of most terrestrial ecosystems,understanding geographic patterns of mosses is particularly important The finding of our study fills a critical knowledge gap.

A longitudinal study of PSA and its influential factors in a cohort of Chinese men with initial PSA levels less than 4 ng ml-1

To evaluate the longitudinal change in prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and the influence of initial PSA on the PSA change. We retrospectively analysed health examination data collected at Beijing Hospital from March 2007 to November 2011. Men with an initial PSA levels less than 4 ng ml- 1 and an annual PSA test for 5 years were enrolled into the study. The men were separated into four groups by the initial PSA level （0-0.99, 1-1.99, 2-2.99 and 3-3.99 ng ml- 1）, and the difference in PSA change among the four groups was analysed. A total of 1330 men were enrolled into the study. The mean age, initial PSA and PSA velocity （PSAV） were 58.17± 14.63 （range 24-91） years, 1.18±0.79 （range 0-4） ng m1-1 and 0.04±0.25 （range -1.34±2.02） ng m1-1 year-1, Pearson＇s correlation analysis showed no correlation between initial PSA and PSAV （r=-0.036, P=0. 189）. The PSAV of the 0-0.99, 1-1.99, 2-2.99 and 3-3.99 ng m1-1 initial PSA groups was 0.03±0.11, 0.07±0.32, 0.03±0.34 and -0.01±0.43 ng m1-1 year-1, respectively （P=0.06）. As the initial PSA increased, the percentage of having a PSAV over 0.75 ng m1-1 year-1 and a negative PSAV both significantly increased. Males with a baseline PSA of 0-0.99, 1-1.99, 2-2.99 and 3-3.99 ng ml- 1 had a 1.88%, 6.16%, 16.30% and 57.81% chance, respectively, that their PSA would increase above 4.0 ng ml- 1 over the following 4 years （P〈0.0001）. The PSAV has no correlation with the initial PSA level. However, as the initial PSA increases, the chance that males will have an abnormal PSA or PSAV in the future increases.

A sulfonated hollow covalent organic polymer （sh-COP-P） was prepared by post sulfonation of hollow covalent organic polymer （h-COP-P） synthesized through poly-condensation of tetrabiphenylporphyrin （TBPP）. In comparison with h-COP-P, sh-COP-P exhibits significantly enhanced adsorp- tion capacity of organic cationic dyes in aqueous solutions accompanied with notably reduced adsorption capacity of anionic dyes. This gives sh-COP-P a satisfactory performance in selectively separating cationic organic dyes from anionic ones, mainly attributed to the electrostatic interaction between polymer backbone and the guest molecules.

Synthesis and Antitumor Activities In Vitro of Solanesylpiperazinotriamine

A series of novel antitumor agents-the solanesylpiperazinotriamine derivatives were designed and synthesized, their structures were confirmed by IR,^ 1H-NMR, MS, and element analysis. The preliminary tests showed that at low micromolar concentrations these compounds exhibited obvious toxicity on tumor cells in vitro, and the synergistic effect on clinical antitumor agent indicated that at noncytotoxic concentrations they also evidently enhanced the curative effect of vincristine.
