Facet-dependent activation of oxalic acid over hematite nanocrystals under the irradiation of visible light for efficient degradation of pollutants

Naturally occurring hematite has been widely studied in the Fenton-like system for water pollutant remediation due to its abundance and non-toxicity.However,its inadequate catalytic activity results in difficulty in effectively degrading pollutants in the catalytic degradation system that it constitutes.Thus,we constructed a photochemical system composed of hematite with{001}facet of high activity facet and low-cost and non-toxic oxalic acid(OA)for the removal of various types of pollutants.The removal rate for the degradation of metronidazole,tetracycline hydrochloride,Rhodamine B,and hexavalent chromium by hematite nanoplate with the exposed{001}facet activating OA under visible light irradiation was 4.75,2.25,2.33,and 2.74 times than that by the exposed{110}facet,respectively.Density functional theory(DFT)calculation proved that the OA molecule was more easily adsorbed on the{001}facet of hematite than that on the{110}facet,which would favor the formation of the more Fe(Ⅲ)-OA complex and reactive species.In addition,the reactive site of metronidazole for the attraction of radicals was identified on the basis of the DFT calculation on the molecular occupied orbitals,and the possible degradation pathway for metronidazole included carbon chain fracture,hydroxyethyl-cleavage,denitrogenation,and hydroxylation.Thus,this finding may offer a valuable direction in designing an efficient iron-based catalyst based on facet engineering for the improved activity of Fenton-like systems such as OA activation.

Developing a novel photothermal catalyst for efficient mineralization of volatile organic compounds(VOCs)is of great significance to control air pollution.Herein,for the first-time,a spinel Cu_(1.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)nanomaterial with enhanced surface lattice oxygen activation was successfully obtained by a novel light-driven in situ reconstruction strategy from its precursor(CuMnO_(2))for efficient toluene mineralization.X-ray diffraction(XRD)and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)analyses confirm that the CuMnO_(2)phase was converted into spinel Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 phase under full spectrum light irradiation.Ultraviolet–visible–near infrared ray(UV–vis–NIR)spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analysis,and density functional theory(DFT)calculations determine that the strong near-infrared absorption ability and low dissociation energy of oxygen bond in Cu_(1.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)are beneficial to its surface lattice oxygen activation.Furthermore,O2-temperature programmed desorption(TPD)and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared transform spectroscopy(DRIFTS)further indicate that the surface lattice oxygen of the Cu_(1.5)Mn_(1.5)O_(4)is easily activated under light irradiation,which can promote ring opening of toluene.This research endows a new design of photothermal nanomaterial with enhanced lattice oxygen activation for deep oxidation of VOCs.

Fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)describes a therapeutic approach in which feces from healthy donors are delivered into the guts of recipient patients through either the upper or lower gastrointestinal tract.FMT is now a standard therapeutic option for patients with recurrent Clostridium difficile infection(rCDI),but FMT has also been applied to several other gut diseases,not least inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),especially ulcerative colitis(UC).Several clinical trials have now shown that FMT is an efficacious and safe treatment not only for patients with mild-to-moderate active UC but also those in clinical remission.

As the proportion of renewable energy(RE)increases,the inertia and the primary frequency regulation(FR)capability of the power system decrease.Thus,ensuring frequency security in the scheduling model has become a new technical requirement in power systems with a high share of RE.Due to a shortage of conventional synchronous generators,the frequency support of multi-source converters has become an indispensable part of the system frequency resources,especially variable-speed wind turbine generation(WTG)and battery energy storage(BES).Quantitative expression of the FR capability of multi-source converters is necessary to construct frequency-constrained scheduling model.However,the frequency support performance of these converter-interfaced devices is related to their working states,operation modes,and parameters,and the complex coupling of these factors has not been fully exploited in existing models.In this study,we propose an integrated frequency-constrained scheduling model considering the coordination of FR capabilities from multi-source converters.Switchable FR control strategies and variable FR parameters for WTG with or without reserved power are modeled,and multi-target allocation of BES capacity between tracking dispatch instruction and emergency FR is analyzed.Then,the variable FR capabilities of WTG and BES are embedded into the integrated frequency-constrained scheduling model.The nonlinear constraints for frequency security are precisely linearized through an improved iteration-based strategy.The effectiveness of the proposed model is verified in a modified IEEE 24-bus standard system.The results suggest that the coordinated participation of BES and WTG in FR can effectively reduce the cost of the scheduling model while meeting frequency security constraints.

As the global demand for renewable energy grows,solar energy is gaining attention as a clean,sustainable energy source.Accurate assessment of solar energy resources is crucial for the siting and design of photovoltaic power plants.This study proposes an integrated deep learning-based photovoltaic resource assessment method.Ensemble learning and deep learning methods are fused for photovoltaic resource assessment for the first time.The proposed method combines the random forest,gated recurrent unit,and long short-term memory to effectively improve the accuracy and reliability of photovoltaic resource assessment.The proposed method has strong adaptability and high accuracy even in the photovoltaic resource assessment of complex terrain and landscape.The experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the comparison algorithm in all evaluation indexes,indicating that the proposed method has higher accuracy and reliability in photovoltaic resource assessment with improved generalization performance traditional single algorithm.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID‐19)pandemic is the third human disease outbreak caused by an emerging coronavirus in the 21st century.Caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS‐CoV‐2),the COVID‐19 pandemic has been the most devastating,with millions of deaths.Medical countermeasures are needed to limit the number of infections and fatalities.Here,we discuss advances in clinical and research‐based treatment methods for SARS‐CoV‐2 that were initially derived from treatments for other coronaviruses.Recent advances in SARS‐CoV‐2 treatments,from traditional drugs and immunotherapies to artificial intelligence to predict potential future treatment methods,are summarized and discussed.

Salmonella enterica serovar 1,4,[5],12:i:-(S.1,4,[5],12:i:-)has been recognized as an emerging foodborne pathogen in recent years.It can cause human salmonellosis predominated by the contamination of animal-derived foods such as raw poultry and pork.This study aimed to characterize the genetic diversity,plasmid replicon types,and antibiotic resistance of 15 S.1,4,[5],12:i:-environmental isolates collected from two poultry farms using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis(PFGE),multilocus sequence typing(MLST),polymerase chain reaction-based replicon typing,and minimum inhibitory concentration approach.Ten different PFGE genotypes were detected,indicating a high diversity among these S.1,4,[5],12:i:-isolates.Three sequence types(ST19,ST1544,ST34)were identified by MLST.Among them,ST1544 was first detected in S.1,4,[5],12:i:-environmental isolates from poultry farms.All isolates were resistant to cefazolin,cefotetan,tobramycin,amikacin,and gentamicin,but susceptible to piperacillin-tazobactam,aztreonam,ceftazidime,cefepime,and ertapenem.Five incompatibility groups(Inc)of plasmids were identified,including IncFIIs(66.7%),IncHI2(20%),IncI1(6.7%),IncN(6.7%),and IncQ(6.7%).Among these isolates,80%carried at least one plasmid replicon type,and 20%carried multiple plasmid replicon types.Interestingly,the multidrug-resistant isolate 263 carried numerous resistance genes(i.***.qnrS,aac(6ʹ)-Ib-cr,bla_(TEM),bla_(CTX-M-9),bla_(OXA-1),sul1,sul2,sul3,floR,and mcr-1)and class I integronase gene intI1,which possessed both IncHI2 and IncQ plasmids,suggesting that resistance genes may be horizontally transferred by the combination of IncHI2 and IncQ plasmids.Collectively,antibiotic-resistant S.1,4,[5],12:i:-isolates were first found in poultry farm environments in China,and surveillance should be strengthened to prevent their further spread from poultry farms to foods.

Diverse transcriptional patterns of homoeologous recombinant transcripts in triploid fish(Cyprinidae)

Homoeologous recombination(HR),the exchange of homoeologous chromosomes,contributes to subgenome adaptation to diverse environments by producing various phenotypes.However,the potential relevance of HR and innate immunity is rarely described in triploid cyprinid fish species.In our study,two allotriploid genotypes(R_(2)C and RC_(2)),whose innate immunity was stronger than their inbred parents(Carassius auratus red var.and Cyprinus carpio L.),were obtained from backcrossing between male allotetraploids of C.auratus red var.×C.carpio L.and females of their two inbred parents,respectively.The work detected 140 HRs shared between the two triploids at the genomic level.Further,transcriptions of 54 homoeologous recombinant genes(HRGs)in R_(2)C and 65 HRGs in RC_(2) were detected using both Illumina and PacBio data.Finally,by comparing expressed recombinant reads to total expressed reads in each of the genes,a range of 0.1%-10% was observed in most of the 99-193 HRGs,of which six recombinant genes were classified as"response to stimulus".These results not only provide a novel way to predict HRs in allopolyploids based on cross prediction at both genomic and transcriptional levels,but also insight into the potential relationship between HRs related to innate immunity and adaptation of the triploids and allotetraploids.

Fluorescence-based quantitative characterization of structural phase transitions in li^(+)/Er^(3+):BaTiO_(3)ferroelectric ceramics

We propose a method to quantitatively characterize the fine phase transition processes of li^(+)/Er^(3+):BaTiO_(3)(BLET)ferroelectric materials by observing fluorescence wavelength shift.A lithium and erbium co-doped barium titanate ferroelectric ceramic was fabricated and the down-conversion infrared fluorescence spectra of the transition^(4)I13/2→^(4)I15/2 were measured as a function of temperature.The three structural phase transition processes,namely rhombohedral-orthorhombic,orthorhombic-tetragonal,and tetragonal-cubic transformations,determined by X-ray diffraction results are accompanied by corresponding changes in the position of the fluorescence peaks,yielding an exact consistency.This contactless,non-destructive and spatially-resolved fluorescence method provides a localized quantitative analysis for the phase transition processes of BLET ceramics.As this method is based on the fluorescence peak wavelength dependence on the crystal environment,it may potentially be used to characterize the phase transitions in other ferroelectric materials.
