BACKGROUND Nocardia paucivorans is an infrequently found bacterium with the potential to cause severe infection,with a predilection for the central nervous system,both in immunocompromised and immunocompetent *** etiological diagnosis of nocardiosis can facilitate timely and rational antimicrobial *** next-generation sequencing(m NGS)can improve the rate and reduce the turnaround time for the detection of *** SUMMARY A 49-year-old man was admitted to hospital with cough and *** revealed pulmonary consolidation as well as multiple brain *** asiatica and Nocardia beijingensis were rapidly detected by m NGS of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF)while bacterial culture of BALF and pathological biopsy of lung tissue were *** early stages,he was treated with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole(TMP-SMZ)and linezolid by individual dose adjustment based on serum concentrations and the adverse effects of thrombocytopenia and *** treatment was then replaced by TMP-SMZ and ceftriaxone or *** was treated with 8 mo of parenteral and/or oral antibiotics,and obvious clinical improvement was achieved with resolution of pulmonary and brain lesions on repeat *** m NGS provided fast and precise pathogen detection of *** disseminated nocardiosis,linezolid is an important alternative that can give a better outcome with the monitoring of linezolid serum concentrations and platelet count.

Using a qualitative case study approach,the authors analyzed the curriculum adaptation process for one project learning activity in School K,which is a SID school in the context of school-university *** sources of data were collected for triangulation,including interviews,documents and *** adaptation strategies in this study were analyzed from five perspectives:instructional goals,instructional content,instructional strategies,instructional settings,and student behavioral *** was found that curriculum adaptation efforts could help students with ID develop potential at their own level through project learning activates and teachers could also gain professional development during the university-school collaboration *** for future studies,enlarging the sample size,involving teachers’past orientations and motivations in the project learning process,and collecting quantitative data could all be taken into account.

High-entropy alloys(HEAs),which are composed of 3d transition metals such as Fe,Co,and Ni,exhibit an exceptional combination of magnetic and other properties;however,the addition of non-ferromagnetic elements always negatively affects the saturation magnetization strength(M s).Co_(4)Fe_(2)Al_(x)Mn_(y) alloys were designed and investigated in this study to develop a novel HEA with excellent soft magnetic *** Co_(4)Fe_(2)Al_(1.5)Mn_(1.5) HEA possesses the highest M s of 161.3 emu g^(-1) thus far reported for magnetic HEAs,a low coercivity of 1.9 Oe,a high electrical resistivity of 173μΩ cm,a superior thermal stability up to 600℃,which originates from the novel microstructure of B2 nanoparticles distributed in a DO_(3) matrix phase,and the crucial transition of Mn from antiferromagnetism to ferromagnetism with the assistance of *** Co_(4)Fe_(2_)Al_(1.5)Mn_(1.5) HEA was selected to produce micron-sized powder and soft magnetic powder cores(SMPCs)for application in the exploration *** SMPCs exhibit a high stable effective perme-ability of 35.9 up to 1 MHz,low core loss of 38.1 mW cm^(-3)(@100 kHz,20 mT),and an excellent direct current(DC)bias performance of 87.7%at 100 *** study paves the way for the development of soft magnetic HEAs with promising applications as magnetic functional materials.

BACKGROUND The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)are novel inflammatory indicators that can be used to predict the severity and prognosis of various *** categorize acute pancreatitis by etiology into acute biliary pancreatitis(ABP)and hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis(HTGP).AIM To investigate the clinical significance of NLR and PLR in assessing persistent organ failure(POF)in HTGP and *** A total of 1450 patients diagnosed with acute pancreatitis(AP)for the first time at Shanxi Bethune Hospital between January 2012 and January 2023 were *** patients were categorized into two groups according to the etiology of AP:ABP in 530 patients and HTGP in 241 *** collected and compared the clinical data of the patients,including NLR,PLR,and AP prognostic scoring systems,within 48 h of hospital *** The NLR(9.1 vs 6.9,P<0.001)and PLR(203.1 vs 160.5,P<0.001)were significantly higher in the ABP group than in the HTGP *** the HTGP group,both NLR and PLR were significantly increased in patients with severe AP and those with a SOFA score≥***,in the ABP group,NLR and PLR were significantly elevated in patients with severe AP,modified computed tomography severity index score≥4,Japanese Severity Score≥3,and modified Marshall score≥***,NLR and PLR showed predictive value for the development of POF in both the ABP and HTGP *** NLR and PLR vary between ABP and HTGP,are strongly associated with AP prognostic scoring systems,and have predictive potential for the occurrence of POF in both ABP and HTGP.

Porous SiC ceramics(PSCs)are promising lightweight and efficient thermal insulators that can evade infrared detection by reducing the surface temperature of the protected object,which plays a crucial role in the development of new military ***,the controllable synthesis of PSCs with both hierarchical pore structure and thermal/mechanical stability remains *** this work,such PSCs were prepared by a facile foam-gelcasting/solid-state reaction method,using silicon powders and glucose-derived carbon as starting *** favorable dispersibility and wettability of hydrophilic carbon microspheres and the in-situ formed SiC guarantee the highly porous structure(92.8%porosity),comparable bulk density(0.20 g·cm^(-3))and reasonable mechanical property of the *** designed PSCs performed outstanding high-temperature performance,especially thermal insulation in both oxidizing and inert *** importantly,the composite architecture of PSCs and low emissivity layer(Al foil)exhibited desirable infrared stealth property(at a temperature up to 1100℃),significantly extending the operating temperature range of thermal camouflage *** unique combination of excellent properties would make PSCs a potential candidate material for future thermal protection and infrared stealth applications in an extreme environment.

Hydrogen production through hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)offers a promising solution to combat climate change by replacing fossil fuels with clean energy ***,the widespread adoption of efficient electrocatalysts,such as platinum(Pt),has been hindered by their high *** this study,we developed an easy-to-implement method to create ultrathin Pt nanomembranes,which catalyze HER at a cost significantly lower than commercial Pt/C and comparable to non-noble metal *** Pt nanomembranes consist of highly distorted Pt nanocrystals and exhibit a heterogeneous elastic strain field,a characteristic rarely seen in conventional *** unique feature results in significantly higher electrocatalytic efficiency than various forms of Pt electrocatalysts,including Pt/C,Pt foils,and numerous Pt singleatom or single-cluster *** research offers a promising approach to develop highly efficient and cost-effective low-dimensional electrocatalysts for sustainable hydrogen production,potentially addressing the challenges posed by the climate crisis.

Ecosystem services can be enhanced through ecological restoration,industrial structure adjustment,land-use optimization,and agricultural and forestry ecosystem *** ecosystem services in hilly and mountainous areas of southern China are crucially needed to be enhanced since these regions are important ecological functional zones in ***,due to its large area,it is not possible to simultaneously upgrade the ecosystem services for all areas,and therefore,priority areas need to be selected to individually upgrade the ecosystem service *** this study,via an approach of combining remote sensing,geographic information system,and spatial statistics,we identify the priority areas that need to be upgraded based on the analysis of ecological sensitivity,importance of ecosystem service function,and decreased degree in ecosystem *** five counties in hilly and mountainous areas of southern China,only less than 2% of the total area was identified as the first priority area;its land-use compositions were analyzed and recommendations on how to enhance ecosystem service were *** approach overcomes the conflict and contradiction issues associated with identifying priority areas in previous studies and solves the problems of high cost or difficult implementation of priority areas.

Rapid Detection of Sildenafil Drugs in Liquid Nutraceuticals Based on Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy Technology

In this study, surface-enhanced Raman Spectroscopy （SERS） technology was used to rapidly detect illegally added sildenafil drugs. A detailed attribution analysis by density functional theory （DFT） was used to guide specific experiments. The Raman signals were obtained from a silver colloid （Ag col） substrate, and they increased in the presence of the mineral salt, potassium iodide （KI）. These methods detected sildenafil in aqueous solutions as low as 1 μg/mL with high signal uniformity （RSD=3.77%）. Prior to this study, traditional Raman techniques detected substances in solid samples only. Here, Raman technology detected low contents of sildenaful drugs in liquid nutraceuticals. Therefore, SERS technology has great potential for on-site and real-time detection of illegal drugs in water and in liquid nutraceuticals.
