Clinical efficacy of 0.05%cyclosporine nano-emulsion in the treatment of dry eye syndrome associated with meibomian gland dysfunction

AIM:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of topical 0.05%cyclosporine nano-emulsion in the treatment of dry eye syndrome(DES)with meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD).METHODS:This prospective study included 64 patients with DES and MGD who were randomly assigned to three groups:Group 1(n=24,conventional cyclosporine),Group 2(n=21,nano-emulsion cyclosporine),and Group 3(n=19,control).Lid margin telangiectasia(LMT),meibomian gland secretion(MGS),conjunctival injection(CI),corneal staining(CS),tear break-up time(TBUT),Schirmer test I(STI),Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI),and lipid layer thickness(LLT)was evaluated at 4,8,and 12wk of ***:In Group 3(control),LMT,CS,and CI improved after 8wk,MGS,TBUT after 12wk of *** Group 1(conventional cyclosporine),LMT,MGS,and TBUT improved significantly after 4wk,whereas CS,CI,STI,and LLT improved significantly after 8wk,and OSDI at *** Group 2(nano-cyclosporine),LMT,MGS,CS,CI,TBUT,and OSDI significantly improved after 4wk,and STI after ***,LLT was significantly higher than other groups after ***:Cyclosporine and nano-cyclosporine shows significant improvement in DES with MGD than the control *** contrast,the nano-cyclosporine group shows more statistically improved CI and CS at 4wk,especially LLT at 4,8,and 12wk compared to the conventional cyclosporine group.

Mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of Al-additive friction stir welded AZ31B joints

Compared to other structural alloys,magnesium alloys have a relatively poor corrosion resistance and low mechanical strength,which can be further deteriorated when these alloys are subjected to joining processes using the existing joining ***,we propose for the first time an additive friction stir-welding(AFSW)using fine Al powder as an additive to improve the mechanical strength as well as corrosion resistance of AZ31B weld *** is a solid-state welding method of forming a high-Al AZ31B joint via an in-situ reaction between pure Al powders filled in a machined groove and the AZ31B *** optimize the process parameters,AFSW was performed under different rotational and transverse speeds,and number of passes,using tools with a square or screw *** particular,to fabricate a weld zone,where the Al was homogenously dispersed,the effects of the groove shape were investigated using three types of grooves:surface one-line groove,surface-symmetric grooves,and inserted symmetric *** homogenous and defect-less AFS-welded AZ31B joint was successfully fabricated with the following optimal parameters:1400 rpm,25 mm/min,four passes,inserted symmetric grooves,and the tool with a square *** AFSW fully dissolved the additive Al intoα-Mg and in-situ precipitated Mg_(17)Al_(12)particles,which was confirmed via scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microscope,and X-ray diffraction *** microhardness,joint efficiency,and elongation at the fracture point of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint were 80 HV,101%,and 8.9%,*** values are higher than those obtained for the FS-welded AZ31 joint in previous *** corrosion resistance of the AFS-welded AZ31B joint,evaluated via hydrogen evolution measurements and potentiodynamic polarization tests,was enhanced to 55%relative to the FS-welded AZ31B joint.

Evaluation of the safety of anterior capsule staining with trypan blue under air: a retrospective analysis

AIM: To evaluate the safety of using 0.03% trypan blue under air for anterior capsule staining in cataract ***: The current study involved a retrospective analysis of the medical records of 86 patients with vitreous hemorrhage, who underwent pars plana vitrectomy and cataract *** patients were classified into two *** trypan blue group(n=45) comprised patients who underwent anterior capsule staining with 0.03% trypan blue under an air *** control group(n=41) comprised of patients who underwent intracameral illuminator-assisted *** status of endothelial cell density(ECD) in both the groups was ***: The trypan blue group displayed significant decline in ECD at 1 mo(7.91% loss, P<0.001) and 3 mo(9.65% loss, P<0.001) after the surgery, whereas no significant changes were observed in the control ***, the number of patients who did not display a postoperative decline in ECD was significantly higher in the control group(43.9%;18 patients) than in the trypan blue group(17.1%;7 patients, P=0.004).CONCLUSION: Anterior capsule staining with trypan blue under the air bubble would not be as safe as the intracameral *** ECD loss might be attributed to the air bubble rather than to the deleterious effects of 0.03% trypan *** studies are required to clarify this.

Despite the enormous interest in inorganic/polymer composite solid-state electrolytes(CSEs)for solid-state batteries(SSBs),the underlying ion transport phenomena in CSEs have not yet been ***,we address this issue by formulating a mechanistic understanding of bi-percolating ion channels formation and ion conduction across inorganic-polymer electrolyte interfaces in CSEs.A model CSE is composed of argyrodite-type Li_6PS_5Cl(LPSCl)and gel polymer electrolyte(GPE,including Li~+-glyme complex as an ion-conducting medium).The percolation threshold of the LPSCl phase in the CSE strongly depends on the elasticity of the GPE ***,manipulating the solvation/desolvation behavior of the Li~+-glyme complex in the GPE facilitates ion conduction across the LPSCl-GPE *** resulting scalable CSE(area=8×6(cm×cm),thickness~40μm)can be assembled with a high-mass-loading LiNi_(0.7)Co_(0.15)Mn_(0.15)O_(2)cathode(areal-mass-loading=39 mg cm~(-2))and a graphite anode(negative(N)/positive(P)capacity ratio=1.1)in order to fabricate an SSB full cell with bi-cell *** this constrained cell condition,the SSB full cell exhibits high volumetric energy density(480 Wh L_(cell)~(-1))and stable cyclability at 25℃,far exceeding the values reported by previous CSE-based SSBs.

Suboptimal Feature Selection Techniques for Effective Malicious Traffic Detection on Lightweight Devices

With the advancement of wireless network technology,vast amounts of traffic have been generated,and malicious traffic attacks that threaten the network environment are becoming increasingly *** signature-based detection methods,static analysis,and dynamic analysis techniques have been previously explored for malicious traffic detection,they have limitations in identifying diversified malware traffic *** research has been focused on the application of machine learning to detect these ***,applying machine learning to lightweight devices like IoT devices is challenging because of the high computational demands and complexity involved in the learning *** this study,we examined methods for effectively utilizing machine learning-based malicious traffic detection approaches for lightweight *** introduced the suboptimal feature selection model(SFSM),a feature selection technique designed to reduce complexity while maintaining the effectiveness of malicious traffic *** performance was evaluated on various malicious traffic,benign,exploits,and generic,using the UNSW-NB15 dataset and SFSM sub-optimized hyperparameters for feature selection and narrowed the search scope to encompass all *** improved learning performance while minimizing complexity by considering feature selection and exhaustive search as two steps,a problem not considered in conventional *** experimental results showed that the detection accuracy was improved by approximately 20%compared to the random model,and the reduction in accuracy compared to the greedy model,which performs an exhaustive search on all features,was kept within 6%.Additionally,latency and complexity were reduced by approximately 96%and 99.78%,respectively,compared to the greedy *** study demonstrates that malicious traffic can be effectively detected even in lightweight device *** verified the possibility of detecting various attack

Comparison of cytotoxicity and wound healing effect of carboxymethylcellulose and hyaluronic acid on human corneal epithelial cells

AIM: To investigate the cytotoxic effect on human corneal epithelial cells(HCECs) and the ability to faciliate corneal epithelial wound healing of carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) and hyaluronic acid(HA).METHODS: HCECs were exposed to 0.5% CMC(Refresh plus, Allergan, Irvine, California, USA) and 0.1% and 0.3%HA(Kynex , Alcon, Seoul, Korea, and Hyalein mini,Santen, Osaka, Japan) for the period of 30 min, and 4, 12,and 24 h. Methyl thiazolyl tetrazoiun(MTT)-based calorimetric assay was performed to assess the metabolic activity of cellular proliferation and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) leakage assay to assess the cytotoxicity. apoptotic response was evaluated with flow cytometric analysis and fluorescence staining with Annexin V and propiodium iodide. Cellular morphology was evaluated by inverted phase-contrast light microscopy and electron microscopy. The wound widths were measured 24 h after confluent HCECs were scratch ***: The inhibitory effect of human corneal epithelial proliferation and cytotoxicity showed the time-dependent response but no significant effect. Apoptosis developed in flow cytometry and apoptotic cells weredemonstrated in fluorescent micrograph. The damaged HCECs were detached from the bottom of the dish and showed the well-developed vacuole formations. Both CMC and HA stimulated reepithehlialization of HCECs scratched, which were more observed in ***: CMC and HA, used in artificial tear formulation, could be utilized without any significant toxic effect on HCECs. Both significantly stimulated HCEC reepithelialization of corneal wounds.

Etanercept-synthesizing adipose-derived stem cell secretome:A promising therapeutic option for inflammatory bowel disease

BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract,with tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αplaying a key role in its ***,a decoy receptor for TNF,is used to treat inflammatory *** secretome derived from adipose-derived stem cells(ASCs)has anti-inflammatory effects,making it a promising therapeutic option for *** To investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of the secretome obtained from ASCs synthesizing etanercept on colon cells and in a dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced IBD mouse *** ASCs were transfected with etanercept-encoding mini-circle plasmids to create etanercept-producing *** secretory material from these cells was then tested for anti-inflammatory effects both in vitro and in a DSS-induced IBD mouse *** This study revealed promising results indicating that the group treated with the secretome derived from etanercept-synthesizing ASCs[Etanercept-Secretome(Et-Sec)group]had significantly lower expression levels of inflammatory mediators,such as interleukin-6,Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1,and TNF-α,when compared to the control secretome(Ct-Sec).Moreover,the Et-Sec group exhibited a marked therapeutic effect in terms of preserving the architecture of intestinal tissue compared to the *** These results suggest that the secretome derived from ASCs that synthesize etanercept has potential as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of IBD,potentially enhancing treatment efficacy by merging the anti-inflam-matory qualities of the ASC secretome with etanercept's targeted approach to better address the multifaceted pathophysiology of IBD.

Experience of primary intestinal lymphangiectasia in adults: Twelve case series from a tertiary referral hospital

BACKGROUND While primary intestinal lymphangiectasia(PIL)is considered a rare condition,there have been several reported cases in ***,the absence of clear guidance from diagnosis to treatment and prognosis poses challenges for both physicians and *** To enhance understanding by investigating clinical presentation,diagnosis,treatment,complications,and prognoses in adult PIL *** We enrolled adult patients diagnosed with PIL between March 2016 and September *** primary outcome involved examining the diagnosis and treatment process of these *** secondary outcomes included identifying complications(infections,thromboembolism)and assessing prognoses(frequency of hospitalization and mortality)during the follow-up *** Among the 12 included patients,peripheral edema(100%)and diarrhea(75%)were the main presenting *** tests showed that all the pati-ents exhibited symptoms of hypoalbuminemia and ***,the predominant findings were edema of the small intestine(67%)and ascites(58%).The typical endoscopic finding with a snowflake appearance was observed in 75%of *** the 12 patients,two responded positive-ly to octreotide and sirolimus,and eight who could undergo maintenance therapy discontinued *** due to PIL led to infection in half of the patients,thromboembolism in three patients,and one *** PIL can be diagnosed in adults across various age groups,with different severity and treatment responses among patients,leading to diverse complications and ***,tailored treatments will be *** anticipate that our findings will contribute to the management of PIL,an etiology of protein-losing enteropathy.

Effect of angiotensin Ⅱ type 1 receptor blocker and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor on the intraocular growth factors and their receptors in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

AIM： To investigate the effect of angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker （ARB） and angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor （ACEI） on intraocular growth factors and their receptors in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. METHODS： Forty Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 4 groups： control, diabetes mellitus （DM）, candesartan- treated DM, and enalapril-treated DM （each group, n---10）. After the induction of DM by streptozotocin, candesartan [ARB, 5 mg/（kg · d）] and enalapril [ACEI, 10 mg/（kg · d）] were administered to rats orally for 4Wko Vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） and angiotensin II （Ang II） concentrations in the vitreous were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, and VEGF receptor 2 and angiotensin II type 1 receptor （ATIR） levels were assessed at week 4 by Western blotting. RESULTS： Vitreous Ang II levels were significantly higher in the DM group and candesartan-treated DM group than in the control （P=0.04 and 0.005, respectively）. Vitreous ATIR increased significantly in DM compared to the other three groups （P〈0.007）. Candesartan-treated DM rats showed higher vitreal ATIR concentration than the enalapril-treated DM group and control （P〈0.001 and P=0.005, respectively）. No difference in vitreous Ang II and ATIR concentration was found between the enalapril- treated DM group and control. VEGF and its receptor were below the minimum detection limit in all 4 groups. CONCLUSION： Increased Ang II and ATIR in the hyperglycemic state indicate activated the intraocular renin-angiotensin system, which is inhibited more effectively by systemic ACEI than systemic ARB.
