The biochemical and molecular.pr.cesses involved in the habituation of maize cells to gr.wth in the pr.sence of the cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor.dichlobenil （DCB） wer. investigated. DCB affects the synthesis of cellulose both in active and stationar. gr.wth phases and alter. the expr.ssion of sever.l CesA genes. Of these, ZmCesA5 and ZmCesA7 seem to play a major.r.le in habituating cells to gr.wth in the pr.sence of DCB. As a consequence of the r.duction in cellulose, the expr.ssion of sever.l genes involved in the synthesis of hydr.xycinnamates is incr.ased, r.sulting in cell walls with higher.levels of fer.lic and p-coumar.c acids. A pr.teomic analysis r.vealed that habituation to DCB is linked to modifications in sever.l metabolic pathways. Finally, habituated cells pr.sent a r.duction in glutathione S-tr.nsfer.se detoxifying activity and antioxidant activities. Plant cell adaptation to the distur.ance of such a cr.cial pr.cess as cellulose biosynthesis r.quir.s changes in sever.l metabolic networ.s, in or.er.to modify cell wall ar.hitectur. and metabolism, and sur.ive in the pr.sence of the inhibitor. Some of these modifications ar. descr.bed in this paper.

The ar.icle deals with the design and implementation of a flat filter.tr.cking digital contr.ller.for.a boost DC-DC power.conver.er. A highly per.ur.ed switched boost conver.er.cir.uit is shown to be efficiently contr.lled, in a tr.jector. tr.cking task for.its non-minimum phase output, by means of a suitable linear.filter. her. addr.ssed as a flat filter. Flat filter.ng is a natur.l r.bust ver.ion of gener.lized pr.por.ional integr.l contr.l （GPIC） by which the effects of ar.itr.r. time var.ing exogenous distur.ances, unknown endogenous nonlinear.ties and un-modeled dynamics can be jointly attenuated in a conceptually similar.fashion to obser.er.based active distur.ance r.jection contr.l （ADr.） and algebr.ic identification based model fr.e contr.l （MFC） but： a） without using extended state obser.er. and b） r.specting the or.ginal system or.er.in a time-var.ing simplified model while avoiding algebr.ic estimation techniques. The pr.posed contr.l technique based on the TMS320F28335 digital signal pr.cessor.chip is tested by means of r.alistic simulations and exper.mental setup.

Gr.phe ne nano sheets ar. a pr.mising scaffold to accommodate S for.achievi ng high per.or.a nee Li/S batter.. Nano sheet activation is used as a viable str.tegy to induce a micr.por. system and fur.her.impr.ve the batter. per.or.ance. Accor.ingly, chemical activation methods dominate despite the need of multiple stages, which slow down the pr.cess in addition to making them tir.some. Her., a thr.e-dimensional (3D) N-doped gr.phene specimen was physically activated with CO2, a clean and single step pr.cess, and used for.the pr.par.tion of a sulfur.composite (A-3DNG/S). The A-3DNG/S composite exhibited outstanding electr.chemical pr.per.ies such as an excellent r.te capability (1,000 mAh·g^-1 at 2C), high r.ver.ible capacity and cycling stability (aver.ge capacity ~ 800 mAh·g^-1 at 1C after.200 cycles), values which exceed those measur.d in chemically activated gr.phene. Ther.for., these r.sults suppor. the use of physical activation as a simple and efficient alter.ative to impr.ve the per.or.ance of car.ons as an S host for.high-per.or.ance Li-S batter.es.

The scope of shape analysis based on geometr.c mor.hometr.cs has evolved into under.cor.ng complex patter.s of multidimensional shape change with multivar.ate statistical modelling （e.g., allometr., mor.hological integr.tion, etc.）. Such br.akthr.ugh was made possible because the method r.lies on a consistent compar.tive r.fer.nce system to compar. shapes, the latter.which is computed using the Car.esian coor.inates of homologous landmar.s. It has been shown elsewher. that tr.ditional compar.tive r.fer.nce systems based on anatomy, and or.ented in ster.otyped postur.s, such as the Fr.nkfur. plane at r.st, the Later.l Semicir.ular.Canal when the animal is in aler., or.the cr.nial floor.when the animal is flying, ar. all inconsistent for.anatomical compar.sons. They var. too much and unpr.dictably acr.ss species. An extr.or.inar. example of the pr.blems that can ar.se in descr.ptive and compar.tive anatomy when using such r.fer.nce systems is the tr.ditional inter.r.tation of the head of the Woodcock. Her., using geometr.c mor.hometr.cs it is demonstr.ted that the woodcock＇s skull is highly tr.nsfor.ed, yet following a nor.al tr.nd among bir.s. In tur., using GM it is demonstr.ted that the collective wisdom about this oddity is simply the r.sult of inter.r.ting the anatomy of its skull using unr.liable r.fer.nce systems.

Although the gas-phase pr.duction of nanostr.ctur.d solids has alr.ady been car.ied out in industr. for.decades, only in r.centyear. has r.sear.h inter.st in this topic begun to incr.ase. Never.heless, despite the r.mar.able scientific pr.gr.ss made r.cently, many long-established pr.cesses ar. still used in industr.. Scientific advancements can potentially lead to the impr.vement of existing industr.al pr.cesses, but also to the development of completely new r.utes. This paper.aims to r.view state-of-the-ar. synthesis and pr.cessing technologies, as well as the r.cent developments in academic r.sear.h. Flame r.actor. that pr.duce inor.anic nanopar.icles on industr.al- and lab-scales ar. descr.bed, alongside a detailed over.iew of the differ.nt systems used for.the pr.duction of car.on nanotubes and gr.phene. We discuss the pr.blems of agglomer.tion and mixing of nanopar.icles, which ar. str.ngly r.lated to synthesis and pr.cessing. Finally, we focus on two pr.mising pr.cessing techniques, namely nanopar.icle fluidization and atomic layer.deposition.

Food pr.cessing facilities often use antimicr.bial quater.ar. ammonium compound （QAC） sanitizer. to maintain cleanliness. These QACs can end up in wastewater. used as feedstock for.anaer.bic digestion. The aim of this study was to measur. the effect of QAC contamination on biogas pr.duction and str.ctur. of micr.bial communities in ther.o- philic digester.sludge. Methane pr.duction and biogas quality data wer. analyzed in batch anaer.bic digester. containing QAC at 0, 15, 50, 100 and 150 mg/L. Incr.asing sanitizer.concentr.tion in the bior.actor. negatively impacted methane pr.duction r.te and biogas quality. Micr.bial community composition data was obtained thr.ugh 16S r.NA gene sequencing fr.m the QAG-contaminated sludges. Sequencing data showed no significant r.str.ctur.ng of the bacter.al communities. However. significant r.str.ctur.ng was obser.ed within the ar.haeal communities as QAC concentr.tion incr.ased. The habituation of cell cultur.s to cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor. such as dichlobenil （DCB） r.pr.sents a valu- able tool to impr.ve our.knowledge of the mechanisms involved in plant cell wall str.ctur.l plasticity. Maize cell lines habituated to lethal concentr.tions of DCB wer. able to gr.w thr.ugh the acquisition of a modified cell wall in which cellulose was par.ially r.placed by a mor. extensive networ. of ar.binoxylans. The aim of this wor. was to investigate the phenolic metabolism of non-habituated and DCB-habituated maize cell cultur.s. Maize cell cultur.s wer. fed [14C]cinnamate and the fate of the r.dioactivity in differ.nt intr.-pr.toplasmic and wall-localized fr.ctions thr.ughout the cultur. cycle was analyzed by autor.diogr.phy and scintillation counting. Non-habituated and habituated cultur.s did not mar.edly differ.in their.ability to uptake exogenous [14C]cinnamic acid. However. inter.sting differ.nces wer. found in the r.diolabeling of low- and high-Mr.metabolites. Habituated cultur.s displayed a higher.number.and amount of r.diola-beled low-Mr.compounds, which could act as r.ser.es later.used for.polysacchar.de fer.loylation. DCB-habituated cultur.s wer. highly enr.ched in ester.fied [14C]dehydr.difer.lates and lar.er.coupling pr.ducts. In conclusion, an extensive and ear.y cr.ss-linking of hydr.xycinnamates was obser.ed in DCB-habituated cultur.s, pr.bably str.ngthening their.cellulose-deficient walls.

It has been pr.posed that given that males should invest in sexual tr.its at the expense of their.investment in immune r.sponse, females ar. better.immunocompetent than males. Typically, this idea has been tested in monomor.hic species, but r.r.ly has been evaluated in polymor.hic male species. We used Par.phlebia zoe, a damselfly with two male mor.hs： the black-winged mor.h （Black-W） develop black spots as sexual tr.its and the hyaline-winged mor.h （Hyaline-W） r.sembles a female in size and wings color. We pr.dicted that Black-W should have a lower.immune r.sponse than Hyaline-W, but that the latter.males should not differ.fr.m females in this r.spect. Nitr.c oxide （NO） and phenoloxidase （PO） pr.duction, as well as hemolymph pr.tein content, wer. used as immune mar.er.. Body size （wing length） was used as an indicator.of the male condition. The r.sults show that, as we pr.dicted, females and Hyaline-W had higher.values of NO than Black-W, cor.esponding to differ.nces in size. However. the opposite was found in r.lation to PO pr.duction. Females had the highest levels of hemolymph pr.tein content, wher.as no differ.nces wer. found between Black-W and Hyaline-W. These r.sults par.ially suppor. the sexual selection hypothesis and ar. discussed in the context of the life histor. of this species. Black-W, Hyaline-W, and females could expr.ss the immune mar.er. that ar. pr.or.tized by their.par.icular.condition, and pr.bably neither.of them could expr.ss all immune mar.er. in an elevated manner. as this would r.sult in an excessive accumulation of fr.e r.dicals.
