Habitat preferences and nest site selection by sympatric populations of Middle Spotted Woodpecker(Dendrocoptes medius) and Syrian Woodpecker(Dendrocopos syriacus) in natural mountain forests of Southwest Iran

We examined habitat preferences and nesting requirements of sympatric populations of Middle Spotted Woodpecker(Dendrocoptes medius) and Syrian Woodpecker(Dendrocopos syriacus).We carried out our study in 2015–2018 in natural mountain forests of Southwest *** compared selected features of nesting,territory,and outside territory tree stands of the studied *** Middle Spotted Woodpecker occupied only oak forests,but the Syrian Woodpecker inhabited heterogenic forests that included the preferred tree of this species,the Mount Atlas *** recorded that in the breeding territories of the Middle Spotted Woodpecker,a greater area covered by tree crowns,as well as a larger number of trees,and a larger trunk basal area were observed in comparison to the territories occupied by the more plastic Syrian *** habitat preferences demonstrated by both species could be a result of the selection of tree stands that provide the necessary food resources for each woodpecker *** of Syrian Woodpecker to use heterogenic forest stands including tree species that produce fruits and as Mount Atlas Mastic trees,which likely allowed this species to colonise in Asia and Europe non-forest tree stands as orchards or *** results showed that poor tree condition and large tree trunk dimensions had a positive impact on the selection of nesting sites by both *** presence of trees with large trunk dimensions was associated with multiple years of use of woodpecker breeding sites in the studied *** habitats in suitable condition for both studied woodpeckers can be achieved by preserving natural forests in the mountain regions of Iran.

Wind-induced vibration energy harvesting has a great potential for utilizing wind energy to supply power for low-powered *** improve the working performance of energy harvesters effectively,a suitable structural design is *** paper proposes a dual-beam piezo-magneto-elastic wake-induced vibration energy harvesting system to enhance the functional performance of aeroelastic energy harvesters in environments with variable wind *** system contains two piezoelectric beams coupled by magnets(forming upstream and downstream energy harvesters),and each beam is attached with a foam cylinder.A corresponding dynamic model is provided,and output characteristics are obtained at different wind *** and experimental verification indicate that both upstream and downstream energy harvesters can realize efficient energy *** the wind speed exceeds a certain critical value,the amplitudes of the system’s displacement and voltage are *** wind speed threshold value is approximately 1.25 m/*** the wind speed and magnet spacing are 10.2 m/s and 20 mm,respectively,the output power of the system reaches 4.9×10^(−4)***,the wind speed threshold value of the proposed system can be adjusted by an equivalent nonlinear restoring force.

Motion and Special Relativity in Complex Spaces

A natural extension of the Lorentz transformation to its complex version was constructed together with a parallel extension of the Minkowski M4 model for special relativity (SR) to complex C4 space-time. As the [signed] absolute values of complex coordinates of the underlying motion’s characterization in C4 one obtains a Newtonian-like type of motion whereas as the real parts of the complex motion’s description and of the complex Lorentz transformation, all the SR theory as modeled by M4 real space-time can be recovered. This means all the SR theory is preserved in the real subspace M4 of the space-time C4 while becoming simpler and clearer in the new complex model’s framework. Since velocities in the complex model can be determined geometrically, with no primary use of time, time turns out to be definable within the equivalent theory of the reduced complex C4 model to the C3 “para-space” model. That procedure allows us to separate time from the (para)space and consider all the SR theory as a theory of C3 alone. On the other hand, the complex time defined within the C3 theory is interpreted and modeled by the single separate C1 complex plane. The possibility for application of the C3 model to quantum mechanics is suggested. As such, the model C3 seems to have unifying abilities for application to different physical theories.

Special Relativity’s “Newtonization” in Complex “Para-Space”: The Two Theories Equivalence Question

Complex model, say C3, of “para-space” as alternative to the real M4 Minkowski space-time for both relativistic and classical mechanics was shortly introduced as reference to our previous works on that subject. The actual aim, however, is an additional analysis of the physical and para-physical phenomena’ behavior as we formally transport observable mechanical phenomena [motion] to non-real interior of the complex domain. As it turns out, such procedure, when properly set, corresponds to transition from relativistic to more classic (or, possibly, just classic) kind of the motion. This procedure, we call the “Newtonization of relativistic physical quantities and phenomena”, first of all, includes the mechanical motion’s characteristics in the C3. The algebraic structure of vector spaces was imposed and analyzed on both: the set of all relativistic velocities and on the set of the corresponding to them “Galilean” velocities. The key point of the analysis is realization that, as a matter of fact, the relativistic theory and the classical are equivalent at least as for the kinematics. This conclusion follows the fact that the two defined structures of topological vector spaces i.e., the structure imposed on sets of all relativistic velocities and the structure on set of all “Galilean” velocities, are both diffeomorphic in their topological parts and are isomorphic as the vector spaces. As for the relativistic theory, the two approaches: the hyperbolic (“classical” SR) with its four-vector formalism and Euclidean, where SR is modeled by the complex para-space C3, were analyzed and compared.

DFT Studies of Electronic Properties and Effect of He and Xe Incorporation in Selected Ceramics

The electronic properties of several prospective nuclear fuels are not yet well known. We used Quantum Espresso and EPW codes to evaluate the electron density of states, the electronic heat capacity coefficient, the electron-phonon coupling strength, the number of mobility electrons, and the electronic heat conductivity. The electronic properties for ThN, ThC and UN using a slightly different approach that were previously evaluated are discussed and the results are compared. We confirmed that while the electronic heat capacity coefficient is linearly dependent on the electron density of states at Fermi energy, such a simple relation could not be used to determine the difference in the electronic heat conductivity of investigated materials. The highest heat conductivity was registered in ThN. These metallic fuels also have high U/Th density, therefore are more economical since enrichment is expensive. Furthermore, it is important to examine swelling in these high-density fuels. We evaluated that UN had 42% more U atoms per unit volume than UO 2 and a 55% higher volume increase when accommodating one Xe atom in one interstitial of a (2 × 2 × 2) supercell. However, for He, the volume increase was 27% lower in UN. Interestingly, even though the Th atom’s density in ThN and ThC was lower than that of U atoms in the UN compound, a similar trend of volume changes was found. We concluded, therefore, that when we consider swelling, the local structural symmetry (tetrahedral versus octahedral sites) is more important than the density of atoms. The 37 % greater of absolute value of the total energy increase due to incorporation of Xe in ThC versus ThN cannot be explained by the crystal structure since a ThC-Xe supercell has a higher lattice constant than a ThN-Xe corresponding supercell. Such results can only be explained by investigating electronic structure.

Diflubenzuron inhibits reproduction of different strains of Drosophila melanogaster

The effect of （1-（4-chlorophenyl）-3-（2,6-difluorobenzoyl）urea） insecticide - diflubenzuron - on wild type and white type fruit flies Drosophila melanogaster （Meigen, 1830） was studied. Adult insects were placed in vials with different concentrations of the insecticide in the nutrient （from 0.048 to 48 mg of diflubenzuron per 1 cm^3 of the nutrient）. In each case, the insects showed some mortality, which was concentrationdependant. When comparing both strains, we could observe different acute toxicities, with wild type being more resistant to diflubenzuron. However, subacute toxicity was similar within both strains. In both strains the prolonged exposure led to the extinction of the majority of the populations （〉 70%）. Although imagoes could freely copulate, we did not observe copulating fruit flies, and we did not find either eggs or larvae in any of the exposed groups. These results indicate that genetic mutation which leads to different eye colour can also affect resistance and survival of insects in pesticide-exposed areas.
