In a recent study, Rafiei et al, reported a link between a C150T polymorphism in the human inducible nitric oxide gene and Helicobacter pylori infection as a risk factor for gastric cancer among an Iranian population. Subsequently, Abadi and Kusters published a letter to the editor questioning the validity of the study because of a supposed flaw in primer design. Here we respond to the claims of Abadi and Kusters and show that the results reported in the original article are valid.

Moderate to severe perinatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy occurs in~1 to 3/1000 live births in high-income countries and is associated with a significant risk of death or neurodevelopmental *** assessment is important to help identify highrisk infants,to help families,and to support appropriate interventions.A wide range of monitoring tools is available to assess changes over time,including urine and blood biomarkers,neurological examination,and *** present,magnetic resonance imaging is unique as although it is expensive and not suited to monitoring the early evolution of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy by a week of life it can provide direct insight into the anatomical changes in the brain after hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and so offers strong prognostic information on the long-term outcome after hypoxic-ischemic *** review investigated the temporal dynamics of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy injuries,with a particular emphasis on exploring the correlation between the prognostic implications of magnetic resonance imaging scans in the first week of life and their relationship to long-term outcome prediction,particularly for infants treated with therapeutic hypothermia.A comprehensive literature search,from 2016 to 2024,identified 20 pertinent *** review highlights that while the optimal timing of magnetic resonance imaging scans is not clear,overall,it suggests that magnetic resonance imaging within the first week of life provides strong prognostic *** challenges limit the timing consistency,particularly the need for intensive care and clinical ***,although most reports examined the prognostic value of scans taken between 4 and 10 days after birth,there is evidence from small numbers of cases that,at times,brain injury may continue to evolve for weeks after *** suggests that in the future it will be important to explore a wider range of times after hypo

This article is a commentary on Liu et al.(2021).In their recent review in this journal,Liu et al.(2021)argue that sexual differences in the allocation to reproduction by male and female plants may cause sexual differences in their responses to biotic(***)and abiotic stress(*** stress).Their general argument is that the nett reproductive costs are higher for females because they not only flower but must also produce fruits/cones/seeds(their Figure 3).They suggest(their Figure 2)that females can ameliorate their higher costs of reproduction such as by maximizing resource acquisition and resource *** other previous reviews have also argued for higher female costs(Barrett and Hough 2013;Barrett et al.2010;juvany and Munné-Bosch 2015;Obeso 2002).My aims in this commentary are(i)to note that theory predicts equal sexual allocation to reproduction,(ii)to argue that some of examples cited by Liu et al.(2021)do not suggest the theory is incorrect and finally,(iii)to provide a Cape(South Africa)perspective to show that differences in allocation cannot be invoked ad hoc to explain vegetative or other differences between the *** differences between the sexes must ultimately be related to differences in sexual function,as is the case in animals,and not to differences in nett allocation to reproduction.

It is crucial to maintaining the viability of biofabricated human-sized tissues to ensure their successful survival and function after *** is a purine nucleoside that has the function to suppress cellular metabolism and has been previously proposed as a method to prolong cell viability under *** this study,we optimized the dose concentration of adenosine for incorporation into bioprinted constructs to preserve long-term cell viability in *** results showed that muscle cells(C2C12)containing 6,7,or 8 mM adenosine maintained high cell viability for 20 days under hypoxic conditions(0.1%O2),whereas cells without adenosine treatment showed 100%cell death after 11 *** 20 days under hypoxic conditions,muscle cells treated with adenosine proliferated and differentiated when transferred to normoxic *** these adenosine concentrations,6 mM was picked as the optimized adenosine concentration for further investigations due to its most effective results on improving cell *** bioprinted muscle constructs containing adenosine(6 mM)maintained high cell viability for 11 days under hypoxic conditions,while the control constructs without adenosine had no live *** in vivo validation,the bioprinted constructs with adenosine implanted under the dorsal subcutaneous space in mice,showed the enhanced formation of muscle tissue with minimal central necrosis and apoptosis,when compared to the constructs without *** positive in vitro and in vivo results demonstrate that the use of adenosine is an effective approach to preventing the challenge of hypoxia-induced necrosis in bioprinted tissues for clinical translation.
