Laser-structuring is an effective method to promote ion diffusion and improve the performance of lithium-ion battery(LIB)*** this work,the effects of laser structuring parameters(groove pitch and depth)on the fundamental characteristics of LIB electrode,such as interfacial area,internal resistances,material loss and electrochemical performance,are investigated,LiNi_(0.5)Co_(0.2)Mn_(0.3)O_(2) cathodes were structured by a femtosecond laser by varying groove depth and pitch,which resulted in a material loss of 5%-14%and an increase of 140%-260%in the in terfacial area between electrode surface and *** is shown that the importance of groove depth and pitch on the electrochemical performance(specific capacity and areal discharge capacity)of laser-structured electrode varies with current *** pitch is more im porta nt at low current rate but groove depth is at high curre nt *** the mapping of lithium concentration within the electrodes of varying groove depth and pitch by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy,it is verified that the groove functions as a diffusion path for lithium *** ionic,electronic,and charge transfer resistances measured with symmetric and half cells showed that these internal resistances are differently affected by laser structuring parameters and the changes in porosity,ionic diffusion and electronic *** is demonstrated that the laser structuring parameters for maximum electrode performance and minimum capacity loss should be determined in consideration of the main operating conditions of LIBs.

Android IoT Lifelog System and Its Application to Motion Inference

In social science,health care,digital therapeutics,etc.,smartphone data have played important roles to infer users’daily ***,smartphone data col-lection systems could not be used effectively and widely because they did not exploit any Internet of Things(IoT)standards(e.g.,oneM2M)and class labeling methods for machine learning(ML)***,in this paper,we propose a novel Android IoT lifelog system complying with oneM2M standards to collect various lifelog data in smartphones and provide two manual and automated class labeling methods for inference of users’daily *** proposed system consists of an Android IoT client application,an oneM2M-compliant IoT server,and an ML server whose high-level functional architecture was carefully designed to be open,accessible,and internation-ally recognized in accordance with the oneM2M *** particular,we explain implementation details of activity diagrams for the Android IoT client application,the primary component of the proposed *** results verified that this application could work with the oneM2M-compliant IoT server normally and provide corresponding class labels *** an application of the proposed system,we also propose motion inference based on three multi-class ML classifiers(i.e.,k nearest neighbors,Naive Bayes,and support vector machine)which were created by using only motion and location data(i.e.,acceleration force,gyroscope rate of rotation,and speed)and motion class labels(i.e.,driving,cycling,running,walking,and stil-ling).When compared with confusion matrices of the ML classifiers,the k nearest neighbors classifier outperformed the other two ***,we evaluated its output quality by analyzing the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves with area under the curve(AUC)*** AUC values of the ROC curves for all motion classes were more than 0.9,and the macro-average and micro-average ROC curves achieved very high AUC values of 0.96 and 0.99,res

An AIoT Monitoring System for Multi-Object Tracking and Alerting

Pig farmers want to have an effective solution for automatically detecting and tracking multiple pigs and alerting their conditions in order to recognize disease risk factors *** this paper,therefore,we propose a novel monitoring system using an Artificial Intelligence of Things(AIoT)technique combining artificial intelligence and Internet of Things(IoT).The proposed system consists of AIoT edge devices and a central monitoring ***,an AIoT edge device extracts video frame images from a CCTV camera installed in a pig pen by a frame extraction method,detects multiple pigs in the images by a faster region-based convolutional neural network(RCNN)model,and tracks them by an object center-point tracking algorithm(OCTA)based on bounding box regression outputs of the faster ***,it sends multi-pig tracking images to the central monitoring server,which alerts them to pig farmers through a social networking service(SNS)agent in cooperation with an oneM2M-compliant IoT alerting *** results showed that the multi-pig tracking method achieved the multi-object tracking accuracy performance of about 77%.In addition,we verified alerting operation by confirming the images received in the SNS smartphone application.

A hydrometallurgical method of energy saving type for separation of rare earth elements from rare earth polishing powder wastes with middle fraction of ceria

This study described a hydrometallurgical method to investigate the separation of rare earth elements（REEs）from rare earth polishing powder wastes（REPPWs）containing large amounts of rare earth oxides with a major phase of CeO2 and minor phases of La2O3,Pr2O3,and Nd2O3 using a process devised by the *** suggested approach consisted of five processes：the synthesis of NaR E（SO4）2·xH2O from rare earth oxides in Na2SO4-H2SO4-H2 O solutions（Process 1）,the conversion of NaR E（SO4）2·xH2O into RE（OH）3 using NaO H（Process 2）,and the oxidation of Ce（OH）3 into Ce（OH）4 using air with O2 injection（Process 3）,followed by Processes 4 and 5 for separation of REEs by acid leaching using HCl and H2SO4,*** confirm the high yield of NaR E（SO4）2·xH2O in Process 1,experiments were carried out under various Na2SO4 concentrations（0.4–2.5 mol/L）,sulfuric acid concentrations（6–14 mol/L）,and reaction temperatures（95–125 oC）.In addition,the effect of the pH value on the separation of Ce（OH）4 in HCl-H2 O solutions with Ce（OH）4,La-,Pr-,and Nd（OH）3 in Process 4 was also *** the basis of above results,the possibility of effective separation of REEs from REPPWs could be confirmed.

Data Traffic Reduction with Compressed Sensing in an AIoT System

To provide Artificial Intelligence(AI)services such as object detection,Internet of Things(IoT)sensor devices should be able to send a large amount of data such as images and ***,this inevitably causes IoT networks to be severely *** this paper,therefore,we propose a novel oneM2M-compliant Artificial Intelligence of Things(AIoT)system for reducing overall data traffic and offering object *** consists of some IoT sensor devices with random sampling functions controlled by a compressed sensing(CS)rate,an IoT edge gateway with CS recovery and domain transform functions related to compressed sensing,and a YOLOv5 deep learning function for object detection,and an IoT *** analyzing the effects of compressed sensing on data traffic reduction in terms of data rate per IoT sensor device,we showed that the proposed AIoT system can reduce the overall data traffic by changing compressed sensing rates of random sampling functions in IoT sensor *** addition,we analyzed the effects of the compressed sensing on YOLOv5 object detection in terms of performance metrics such as recall,precision,mAP50,and mAP,and found that recall slightly decreases but precision remains almost constant even though the compressed sensing rate decreases and that mAP50 and mAP are gradually degraded according to the decreased compressed sensing ***,if proper compressed sensing rates are chosen,the proposed AIoT system will reduce the overall data traffic without significant performance degradation of YOLOv5.

Indolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole-derived planar electron transport materials realizing high efficiency in green phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes

Two novel electron transporting materials(ETMs),2-(4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)indolo[3,2,1-jk]-carbazole(DPTrz-ICz)and 5,11-bis(4,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-2-phenylindolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole(2DPTrz-ICz),were developed based on the indolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole(ICz)core,combined with 2,4-diphenyl-1,3,5-triazine(DPTrz).The introduced ICz core in ETM exhibited enhanced intermolecular charge transport properties owing to its planar and rigid geometry and high triplet energy,demonstrating the potential of designing ***,2DPTrz-ICz,featuring high triplet energy of 2.84 eV,effectively prevented triplet exciton quenching and showed increased electron mobility owing to the activation of intermolecular hopping charge transfer facilitated by stacking *** two materials were utilized as ETMs in green phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes.2DPTrz-ICz exhibited a superior external quantum efficiency of 21.5%,higher than that of the spirobifluorene-derived ETM.

Proline Accumulation,Photosynthetic Abilities and Growth Characters of Sugarcane(Saccharum officinarum L.) Plantlets in Response to Iso-Osmotic Salt and Water-Deficit Stress

The aim of this study was to investigate the biochemical, physiological and morphological responses of sugarcane to iso- osmotic salt and water-deficit stress. Disease-free sugarcane plantlets derived from meristem cuttings were photo- autotrophically grown in MS media and subsequently exposed to -0.23 （control）, -0.67 or -1.20 MPa iso-osmotic NaCl （salt stress） or mannitol （water-deficit stress）. Chlorophyll a （Chl a）, chlorophyll b （Chl b）, total carotenoids （Cx＋c）, maximum quantum yield of PSII （Fv/Fm）, photon yield of PSII （ΦPSII）, stomatal conductance （Gs） and transpiration rate （E） in the stressed plantlets were significantly reduced when compared to those of plantlets of the control group （without mannitol or NaCl）, leading to net-photosynthetic rate （Pn） and growth reduction with positive correlation. In addition, physiological changes and growth parameters of plantlets in the salt stress conditions were more sharply reduced than those in waterdeficit stress conditions. On the other hand, the proline content and non-photochemical quenching （NPQ） in the leaves of stressed plantlets increased significantly, especially in response to iso-osmotic salt stress. The chlorophyll pigments in iso-osmotic stressed leaves were significantly degraded （r^2 = 0.93）, related to low water oxidation （r^2 = 0.87）, low net- photosynthetic rate （r^2 = 0.81）, and growth reduction （r^2 = 0.97）. The multivariate biochemical, physiological and growth parameters in the present study should be further used to develop salt, or drought, tolerance indices in sugarcane breeding programs.

Malaria parasite status and cholesterol level of malaria patients in parts of the IMO River Basin of Nigeria

Objective:To investigate the relationship between malaria parasite status and cholesterol level of 110 consenting subjects(55 patients and 55 controls) in parts of the Imo River Basin of Nigeria. Methods:Giemsa staining was used for malaria parasite examination while Randox cholesterol kit was used for cholesterol level ***:About 49 persons(90%) with malaria had low cholesterol(<180 mg/dL).Highest mean cholesterol levels were 274 mg/dL for study patients and 220 mg/dL for controls respectively;Lowest mean cholesterol levels were 168 mg/dL (patienls) and 138 mg/dL(controls) *** cholesterol levels(< 180 mg/dL) were found in patients(84%) and controls(6%) ***.16.4%of controls and 6%of patients had borderline cholesterol level(200-239 mg/dL).This study establishes a significant correlation(12.9%.P<0.01) between malaria parasite status and cholesterol ***: These findings imply that choleslerol level estimation may be a potential concurrent and valuable diagnosis for malaria status.

TGF-β2 downregulates osteogenesis under inflammatory conditions in dental follicle stem cells

Bone formation is important for the reconstruction of bone-related structures in areas that have been damaged by *** conditions such as those that occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, and periodontitis have been shown to inhibit osteoblastic differentiation. This study focussed on dental follicle stem cells(DFSCs), which are found in developing tooth germ and participate in the reconstruction of alveolar bone and periodontal tissue in periodontal disease. After bacterial infection of inflamed dental tissue, the destruction of bone was observed. Currently, little is known about the relationship between the inflammatory environment and bone formation. Osteogenic differentiation of inflamed DFSCs resulted in decreased alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity and alizarin red S staining compared to normal DFSCs. Additionally, in vivo transplantation of inflamed and normal DFSCs demonstrated severe impairment of osteogenesis by inflamed DFSCs. Protein profile analysis via liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry was performed to analyse the differences in protein expression in inflamed and normal tissue. Comparison of inflamed and normal DFSCs showed significant changes in the level of expression of transforming growth factor(TGF)-β2. Porphyromonas gingivalis(P.g.)-derived lipopolysaccharide(LPS) was used to create in vitro inflammatory conditions similar to periodontitis. The osteogenic differentiation of LPS-treated DFSCs was suppressed, and the cells displayed low levels of TGF-β1 and high levels of TGF-β2. DFSCs treated with TGF-β2 inhibitors showed significant increases in alizarin red S staining and ALP activity. TGF-β1 expression was also increased after inhibition of TGF-β2. By examining inflamed DFSCs and LPS-triggered DFSCs, these studies showed both clinically and experimentally that the increase in TGF-β2 levels that occurs under inflammatory conditions inhibits bone formation.

Surface properties of Al-doped ZnO thin film before and after CF_4/Ar plasma etching

Al-doped ZnO(AZO) is considered as an alternative to transparent conductive oxide *** and achieving a stable surface are important challenges in the development and optimization of dry etching processes, which must be overcome for the application of AZO in various devices. Therefore, in this study, the etch rate and surface properties of an AZO thin film after plasma etching using the adaptive coupled plasma system were investigated. The fastest etch rate was achieved with a CF_(4)/Ar ratio of 50:50 sccm. Regardless of the ratio of CF_(4) to Ar,the transmittance of the film in the visible region exceeded 80%. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of the AZO thin film confirmed that metal-F bonding persists on the surface after plasma etching. It was also shown that F eliminates O vacancies. Consequently, the work function and bandgap energy increased as the ratio of CF-4 increased. This study not only provides information on the effect of plasma on AZO thin film, but identifies the cause of changes in the device characteristics during device fabrication.
