Catalyst-free InGaAs nanowires grown by selective area epitaxy are promising building blocks for future optoelectronic devices in the infrared spectral *** progress,the role of pattern geometry and growth parameters on the composition,microstructure,and optical properties of InGaAs nanowires is still ***,we present an optimised growth parameter window to achieve highly uniform In1-xGaxAs nanowire arrays on GaAs(111)b substrate over an extensive range of Ga concentrations,from 0.1 to 0.91,by selective-area metal-organic vapor-phase *** observe that the Ga content always increases with decreasing In/(Ga+In)precursor ratio and group V flow rate and increasing growth *** increase in Ga content is supported by a blue shift in the photoluminescence peak *** geometry of the nanowire arrays also plays an important role in the resulting ***,increasing the nanowire pitch size from 0.6 to 2μm in a patterned array shifts the photoluminescence peak emission by up to 120 *** of these growth and geometry parameters,the Ga content determines the crystal structure,resulting in a predominantly wurtzite structure for xGa≤0.3 and a predominantly zinc blende phase for xGa≥*** insights on the factors controlling the composition of InGaAs nanowires grown by a scalable catalyst-free approach provide directions for engineering nanowires as functional components of future optoelectronic devices.

Aims While a growing number of studies have demonstrated the impor-tance of intraspecific differences within plant species on associ-ated arthropod communities,little is known regarding the relative strength of these effects compared to environmental *** this study,we examined whether intraspecific plant differences and nutrient fertilization interact to shape the arthropod community of a dominant coastal shrub,baccharis pilularis(coyote bush).Methods We overlaid a fertilization treatment on a 12-year-old common garden experiment planted with erect and prostrate architectural morphs of baccharis in california,*** collect the associated arthropod community,we vacuum sampled the crown of each baccharis and identified individuals to species or *** Findings We found that arthropod richness and abundance were 2-to 3-fold greater on prostrate baccharis than on erect morphs,but observed no main effects of fertilizer addition on the over-all arthropod *** responded as strongly as herbivores to plant morph,and both were unaffected by nutrient *** the specialist stem galler,Gnorimoschema bac-charisella,showed an interactive response to plant morph and ***,phosphorous and potassium addition had opposite effects on the two morphs,increasing stem gall abun-dance by 50%on prostrate morphs,but reducing galling by 20%on erect *** architectural complexity of prostrate morphs could be the driving mechanism of differences in arthropod ***,our results demonstrate that communitylevel consequences of intraspecific differences in plants are strong,rather than being context dependent,and are generally maintained under different resource *** growing number of studies showing strong genotype than nutrient effects on associated arthropod communities suggests that this might be a generalized pattern.

Cities worldwide are geared to promote economic growth,improve accessibility,address environmental issues,and enhance the quality of ***,the processes that lead to the design of urban roads,particularly the space distribution,reflect the inequalities existing in the fabric of our *** often have shorter travel time and more space than passengers of other ***,the existing transport appraisal and planning tools that frame sustainable transport policies fall short of considering the dimension of social ***,our urban transport systems are essential areas for advancing sustainability through a transport justice-based approach to planning that can pivot the distribution of infrastructure investments over different social groups and transport *** study proposes such an approach by which such suitable urban transport strategies can be identified,co-created with users and appraised while considering the commuters’***,the interaction between the multidimensional characteristics of sustainability and the principles of transport justice are *** proposed approach is applied to London and *** results show that a transparent and holistic approach to integrating users within transport planning is an effective way to reflect diverse needs and local circumstances and thereby ensure a just transition to sustainable urban transport *** results from the case studies highlight a strong rationale for the centrality of justice in any urban transport planning and policy making efforts,particularly in the allocation of road space.

Refractive outcomes among glaucoma patients undergoing phacoemulsification cataract extraction with and without Kahook Dual blade goniotomy

background:Glaucoma patients undergoing phacoemulsification alone have a higher rate of refractive surprise compared to patients without *** risk is further increased with combined filtering ***,there are few and conflicting reports on the effect of combined phacoemulsification and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery(MIGS).Here,we look at refractive outcomes of glaucoma patients undergoing phacoemulsification with and without Kahook Dual blade(KDb)***:Retrospective chart review of 385 glaucomatous eyes of 281 patients,which underwent either phacoemulsification alone(n=309)or phacoemulsification with KDb goniotomy(n=76,phaco-KDb)at the University of *** main outcome was refractive surprise defined as the difference in target and postoperative refraction spherical equivalent greater than±0.5 Diopter(D).Results:Refractive surprise greater than±0.5 D occurred in 26.3%of eyes in the phaco-KDb group and 36.2%in the phacoemulsification group(p=0.11).Refractive surprise greater than±1.0 D occurred in 6.6%for the phacoKDb group and 9.7%for the phacoemulsification group(p=0.08).There was no significant difference in risk of refractive surprise when pre-operative IOP,axial length,keratometry or performance of KDb goniotomy were assessed in univariate ***:There was no difference between refractive outcomes of glaucomatous patients undergoing phacoemulsification with or without KDb goniotomy.

Marital Status and HIV Prevalence in Nigeria: Implications for Effective Prevention Programmes for Women

Objective: Until recently, HIV prevalence has been based on estimates from antenatal sentinel surveys which have been found to overestimate HIV prevalence among the general population. Multiple studies have shown women to be disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS epidemic. Design: Data for this study were based on the first Nigerian population household-based HIV biomarker survey of 2007, which used a multi-stage probability sampling technique. Methods: Respondents were selected through probability sampling (male age 15 - 64 years and female 15 - 49 years). This paper, therefore, examined the correlates of marital status and HIV prevalence among women in Nigeria. Results: A descriptive analysis of the data showed that HIV prevalence of women that were formerly married: divorced, separated or widowed were more than double that of those who were currently married/cohabiting with a sexual partner;and more than three times those that were never married. bivariate and multivariate levels of analysis were explored in this paper. At bivariate level, findings showed a significant difference in HIV prevalence among women according to their marital status (p 0.0001), educational attainment (p = 0.004) and geo-political zones (p = 0.003). Respondents that were formerly married were 5.6 times as likely to be infected with HIV compared with those who had never married (OR = 5.6, p 0.0001) while HIV prevalence increased with higher educational attainment. Conclusion: In view of these findings, HIV programmers should design interventions that will improve economic empowerment as well as social security for women that were formerly married. In addition, gender mainstreaming in the ongoing HIV and AIDS preventive efforts should be strengthened and scaled-up.

Solvent-free microwave-assisted synthesis of tenorite nanoparticle-decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes

Copper-decorated carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have important applications as precursors for ultraconductive copper wires. Tenorite-decorated CNTs(CuO-CNTs) are ideal candidates and are currently developed using laborious processes. For this reason, we have developed a facile and scalable method for the synthesis of CuO-CNTs from copper acetate. It was found that the optimal loading of copper acetate onto the CNTs was 23.1 wt% and that three 1-minute microwave treatments were sufficient for the decomposition of copper acetate to copper oxide. The loading of copper oxide onto the nanotubes was confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The materials were characterised using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy.

bACKGROUND Genome-wide association studies from Asia indicate that HLA-DP and HLA-DQ loci are important in persistent hepatitis b virus(HbV)*** of the key elements for HbV-related carcinogenesis is persistent viral replication and *** To examine genetic and nongenetic factors with persistent HbV infection and viral load in families with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS The HCC families included 301 hepatitis b surface antigen(HbsAg)carriers and 424 noncarriers born before the nationwide vaccination program was initiated in *** HbV-related single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)—rs477515,rs9272105,rs9276370,rs7756516,and rs9277535—were *** associated with persistent HbV infection and viral load were analyzed by a generalized estimating *** In the first-stage persistent HbV study,all SNPs except rs9272105 were associated with persistent infection.A significantly higher area under the reciprocal operating characteristic curve for nongenetic factors vs genetic factors(PbV *** the second-stage viral load study,we added 8 HbsAg carriers born after *** 309 HbsAg carriers were divided into low(n=162)and high viral load(n=147)groups with an HbV DNA cutoff of 105 cps/***,relationship to the index case,rs477515,rs9272105,and rs7756516 were associated with viral *** on the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis,genetic and nongenetic factors affected viral load equally in the HCC family cohort(P=0.3117).CONCLUSION In these east Asian adults,the mechanism of persistent HbV infection-related SNPs was a prolonged viral replication phase.
