Chronic pancreatitis(CP)is a major risk factor of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC).How CP promotes pancreatic oncogenesis remains unclear.A characteristic feature of PDAC is its prominent desmoplasia in the tumor microenvironment,composed of activated fibroblasts and *** can be characterized as m1 or m2,with tumor-inhibiting or-promoting functions,*** reported that Gremlin 1(GREm1),a key pro-fibrogenic factor,is upregulated in the stroma of *** current study aimed to investigate the expression of GREm1 and correlation between GREm1 and macrophages within the pancreas during chronic inflammation and the development of *** mRNA in situ hybridization,we detected GREm1 mRNA expression withinα-smooth muscle actin(SmA)-positive fibroblasts of the pancreatic *** designated FibroblastsGrem1+marginally increased from CP to pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PanIN)and *** PDAC,FibroblastsGrem1+increased with higher pathological tumor stages and in a majority of PDAC subtypes ***,FibroblastsGrem1+positively correlated with total macrophages(macCD68+)and m2 macrophages(m2CD163+)in *** begin exploring potential molecular links between FibroblastsGrem1+and macrophages in PDAC,we examined the expression of macrophage migration inhibitory factor(mIF),an endogenous counteracting molecule of GREm1 and an m1 macrophage promoting *** IHC staining of mIF,we found mIF to be expressed by tumor cells,positively correlated with GREm1;by IHC co-staining,we found mIF to be negatively correlated with m2CD163+*** findings suggest that GREm1 expression by activated fibroblasts may promote PDAC development,and GREm1/mIF may play an important role in macrophage phenotype.

Nano Research volume We use polarized photocurrent spectroscopy in a nanowire device to investigate the band structure of hexagonal Wurtzite *** of optical transitions between four valence bands and two conduction bands are observed which are consistent with the symmetries expected from group *** ground state transition energy identified from photocurrent spectra is seen to be consistent with photoluminescence emitted from a cluster of nanowires from the same growth *** the energies of the observed bands we determine the spin orbit and crystal field energies in Wurtzite *** information is vital to the development of crystal phase engineering of this important III-V semiconductor.

Background: Selective serotonergic reuptake inhibitors(SSRIs) are first-line pharmacologic treatments for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD), but must be given over extended period of time before the onset of action. The use of SSRIs in PTSD patients with mild traumatic brain injury(m TBI) is problematic since SSRIs could exacerbate post-concussion syndrome(PCS) symptoms. VA/DOD guidelines identify trauma-focused psychotherapy as the best evidence-based treatment for PTSD, but overall effectiveness is limited by reduced levels of patient engagement and retention. A previous study from this research group suggested that quetiapine monotherapy, but not risperidone or valproate, could increase engagement in trauma-focused ***: We report the study protocol of a pilot study funded under the South-Central mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center pilot study program from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This randomized, open-label study was designed to evaluate the feasibility of completing a randomized trial of quetiapine vs. treatment as usual to promote patient engagement in PTSD patients with a history of m ***: We expect that the success of this ongoing study should provide us with the preliminary data necessary to design a full-scale randomized trial. Positive efficacy results in a full-scale trial should inform new VA guidelines for clinical practice by showing that quetiapine-related improvements in patient engagement and retention may be the most effective approach to assure that VA resources achieve the best possible outcome for *** registration: NCT04280965.

Parents' participation in physical activity predicts maintenance of some,but not all, types of physical activity in offspring during early adolescence:A prospective longitudinal study

Purpose: We aimed to examine the longitudinal associations between parents' and youth's participation in physical activity(PA).methods-: One hundred and ninety youth cuompleted self-admitiistered questionnaires 3 times per year from 2011 to 2015, and their parents completed an interviewer-administered questionnaire during a telephone interview once in2011-2012. Data on youth's and parents' activities were classified as interdependent or coactive/***: Youth with one or both parents who participated in interdependent activities were more likely to maintain participation in interdependent activities(hazard ratio(HR) = 3.63: 95% confidence interval(CI) = 1.30-10.17). Youth's sustained participation in coactive/independent activities was not associated with parents' participation in coactive/independent activities(HR= 0.97; 95%CI=0.46-2.06).Conclusion: Longitudinal associations between parents' and youth's participation in PA differed across type of PA. Encouraging parents' participation in interdependent activities may promote sustained participation in interdependent activities in youth.

Lower extremity injury in female basketball players is related to a large difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod conditions

Background： The majority of injuries reported in female basketball players are ankle sprains and mechanisms leading to injury have been debated. Investigations into muscular imbalances in barefoot versus shod conditions and their relationship with injury severity have not been performed. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of wearing athletic shoes on muscular strength and its relationship to lower extremity injuries, specifically female basketball players due to the high incidence of ankle injuries in this population. methods： During pre-season, 11 female collegiate basketball players underwent inversion and eversion muscle strength testing using an iso- kinetic dynamometer in both a barefoot and shod conditions. The difference between conditions was calculated for inversion and eversion peak torque, time to peak torque as well as eversion-to-inversion peak torque percent strength ratio for both conditions. Lower extremity injuries were documented and ranked in severity. The ranked difference between barefoot and shod conditions for peak torque and time to peak torque as well as percent strength ratio was correlated with injury ranking using a Spearman rho correlation （p） with an a level of 0.05. Results： The ranked differences in barefoot and shod for peak eversion and inversion torque at 120°/s were correlated with their injury ranking. Ranking of the athletes based on the severity of injuries that were sustained during the season was found to have a strong, positive relationship with the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod （p = 0.78; p = 0.02）. Conclusion： It is possible that a large discrepancy between strength in barefoot and shod conditions can predispose an athlete to injury. Nar- rowing the difference in peak eversion torque between barefoot and shod could decrease propensity to injury. Future work should investigate the effect of restoration of muscular strength during barefoot and shod exercise on injury rates

Aim:Quadriceps strength and knee extension,the most important factors limiting the ability to rise from a chair,are crucial for walking at an appropriate speed,ascending and descending stairs,and performing activities such as running,dancing,and *** of the anterior compartment of the thigh,including all four quadriceps muscles,for the treatment of a sarcoma is uncommon;however,when necessary,it is very debilitating and adversely affects a patient's quality of life without functional ***,there are a limited number of complex and difficult reconstructions to restore quadriceps function that have been described with variable *** describe a simple technique that employs a single gracilis functional muscle transfer to replace essential quadriceps ***:This is a case series describing the use of either a free or pedicled single gracilis muscle to restore quadriceps function following sarcoma ***:Four patients underwent an anterior compartment sarcoma resection that resulted in a large segmental defect and/or denervation of all four quadriceps muscles such that no quadriceps function would remain without *** four patients underwent a functional reconstruction using a single *** of the living patients achieved British medical Research Counsel Grade 4 strength,can achieve full knee extension,are able to navigate stairs,and are able to ambulate without a *** fourth patient unfortunately was deceased in under three months following his tumor ***:Despite its small size in comparison to the quadriceps muscles,with physiotherapy and training,the gracilis muscle demonstrates the capacity to hypertrophy and replace quadriceps function following limb salvage surgery.
