Reports of leishmaniasis are scarce in North *** is considered to be one of the neglected tropical *** is seen in immigrants from endemic areas to United *** are not readily available in the United *** or inadequately treated cutaneous leishmaniasis not only causes localized disfigurement but can advance to more permanent and devastating mucosal disfigurement and perforation,if caused by a species that can also cause mucocutaneous *** SUMMARY A 42-year-old human immunodeficiency virus negative male immigrant from Honduras presented to the emergency department of our facility in Louisiana with a 2-mo history of a left lower extremity *** started as a painless blister that progressed in size and developed into other smaller lesions tracking up the thigh and became tender and *** looked nontoxic and *** was *** tests,except inflammatory markers,were within normal *** cellulitis of the leg was treated with 6 d of vancomycin that also relieved the *** biopsy was obtained,and histopathology was suspicious for *** chain reaction/deoxyribonucleic acid sequencing done by centers for disease control and prevention confirmed the diagnosis as Leishmania *** was no involvement of nasooropharyngeal mucosa,confirmed by *** patient was treated with miltefosine for 28 *** follow-up after approximately 11 mo revealed a healed skin *** Cutaneous leishmaniasis should be in the differential diagnosis of skin ulcers of travelers from endemic *** regarding diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis needs to be enhanced.

AIM: To study short ds RNA oligonucleotides(si RNA)as a potent tool for artificially modulating gene expression of N-Myc down regulated gene 1(NDRG1) gene induced under different physiological conditions(Normoxia and hypoxia) modulating NDRG1 transcription, m RNA stability and translation. METHODS: A cell line established from a patient with glioblastoma multiforme. Plasmid DNA for transfections was prepared with the Endofree Plasmid Maxi kit. From plates containing 5 × 107 cells, nuclear extracts were prepared according to previous protocols. The p SUPERNDRG1 vectors were designed, two sequences were selected from the human NDRG1 c DNA(5'-GCATTATTGGCATGGGAAC-3' and 5'-ATGCAGAGTAACGTGGAAG-3'. reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was performed using primers designed using published information on β-actin and hypoxia-inducible factor(HIF)-1α m RNA sequences in Gen Bank. NDRG1 m RNA and protein level expression results under different conditions of hypoxia or reoxygenation were compared to aerobic control conditions using the Mann-Whitney U test. Reoxygenation values were also compared to the NDRG1 levels after 24 h of hypoxia(P < 0.05 was considered significant).RESULTS: si RNA- and iodoacetate(IAA)-mediated downregulation of NDRG1 m RNA and protein expression in vitro in human glioblastoma cell lines showed a nearly complete inhibition of NDRG1 expression when compared to the results obtained due to the inhibitory role of glycolysis inhibitor IAA. Hypoxia responsive elements bound by nuclear HIF-1 in human glioblastoma cells in vitro under different oxygenation conditions and the clearly enhanced binding of nuclear extracts from glioblastoma cell samples exposed to extreme hypoxic conditions confirmed the HIF-1 Western blotting results. CONCLUSION: NDRG1 represents an additional diagnostic marker for brain tumor detection, due to the role of hypoxia in regulating this gene, and it canrepresent a potential target for tumor treatment in human glioblastoma. Our aim in this project is twofold. Firstly, we aspire to capture as many of the activities that are already present on the site as possible and to build upon them. Secondly, we attempt to bridge the existing gap between the low income east and the higher income west sides of the tracks by designing a campus of activities and spaces which invite the two to mix. The central notion that guides our design is to preserve whether physically or experientially what is there, and then carefully intervene to achieve the desired dynamic quality of space. The set of interventions is drawn into the urban texture by attraction points that anchor the site to its context. Rather than being a negative space of what has been built, these created attraction nodes will connect the structure to the urban fabric. The focus of our intervention is the new library, situated halfway between Wudaokou and Zhichunlu stations, which is to serve both students from the surrounding universities and residents of the site as well as the broader surrounding area.

背景:孕期妇女血浆多不饱和脂肪酸水平可能会对其后代的生长和脂肪堆积产生持续影响。孕期膳食结构不理想可能会导致胎儿心血管代谢产生适应性变化,给子代带来永久性的不良后果。目的:研究孕期妇女血浆多不饱和脂肪酸浓度与子代总脂肪与腹部脂肪分布。方法:本实验采用基于人群的前瞻性队列研究,共有4830对母子(女)参与。在母亲孕中期时测量其血浆ω-3和ω-6多不饱和脂肪酸浓度,在子代中位年龄为6岁(95%区间:5.6,7.9岁)时计算孩子的体质指数(BMI),通过双能X线吸收测定孩子脂肪含量、腰臀脂肪比,利用超声测定腹膜前腹部的脂肪区域大小。校正母亲和孩子的社会人口学指标和生活方式相关变量后进行统计学分析。结果:孕期妇女血浆ω-3多不饱和脂肪酸浓度越高,尤其是EPA、DPA、和DHA的浓度越高,孩子的体脂百分比与腰臀脂肪比越低(P<0.05),但与子代的BMI和腹膜前腹部脂肪面积不相关;孕期妇女血浆ω-6多不饱和脂肪酸浓度越高,尤其双高-γ-亚麻油酸(dihomo-γ-linolenic acid)的浓度越高,子代体脂百分比、腰臀脂肪比和腹膜前腹部脂肪面积越高(P<0.05),但与子代的BMI不相关。和这些结果一致,孕期妇女高血浆ω-6:ω-3比越高,孩子总体脂及腹部脂肪越多。结论:孕期妇女血浆ω-3多不饱和脂肪酸越低或ω-6多不饱和脂肪酸越高,孩子的体脂百分比与腹部脂肪面积越高。需要进一步的研究以证实上述观察结果并探索其因果关系及其个中机制,并了解其对儿童长期心血管代谢的影响。
