Food contaminants and potential risk of diabetes development:A narrative review

The number of people diagnosed with diabetes continues to increase,especially among younger *** from genetic predisposition and lifestyle,there is increasing scientific and public concern that environmental agents may also contribute to *** contamination by chemical substances that originate from packaging materials,or are the result of chemical reactions during food processing,is generally recognized as a worldwide problem with potential health ***,bisphenol A(BPA)and acrylamide(AA)have been the focus of attention in recent years,due to the numerous adverse health effects associated with their *** paper summarizes the available data about the association between phthalates,BPA and AA exposure and *** their mechanism of action has not been fully clarified,in vitro,in vivo and epidemiological studies have made significant progress toward identifying the potential roles of phthalates,BPA and AA in diabetes development and *** chemicals interfere with multiple signaling pathways involved in glucose and lipid homeostasis and can aggravate the symptoms of *** concerning are the effects of exposure during early stages and the gestational ***-designed prospective studies are needed in order to better establish prevention strategies against the harmful effects of these food contaminants.

Pyridine Nucleotide Cycling and Control of Intracellular Redox State in Relation to Poly （ADP-Ribose） Polymerase Activity and Nuclear Localization of Glutathione during Exponential Growth of Arabidopsis Cells in Culture

Pyridine nucleotides, ascorbate and glutathione are major redox metabolites in plant cells, with specific roles in cellular redox homeostasis and the regulation of the cell cycle. However, the regulation of these metabolite pools during exponential growth and their precise functions in the cell cycle remain to be characterized. The present analysis of the abundance of ascorbate, glutathione, and pyridine nucleotides during exponential growth of Arabidopsis cells in culture provides evidence for the differential regulation of each of these redox pools. Ascorbate was most abundant early in the growth cycle, but glutathione was low at this point. The cellular ascorbate to dehydroascorbate and reduced glutathione （GSH） to glutathione disulphide ratios were high and constant but the pyridine nucleotide pools were largely oxidized over the period of exponential growth and only became more reduced once growth had ceased. The glutathione pool increased in parallel with poly （ADP-ribose） polymerase （PARP） activities and with increases in the abundance of PARP1 and PARP2 mRNAs at a time of high cell cycle activity as indicated by transcriptome information. Marked changes in the intracellular partitioning of GSH between the cytoplasm and nucleus were observed. Extension of the exponential growth phase by dilution or changing the media led to increases in the glutathione and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, oxidized form （NAD）-plus-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, reduced form （NADH） pools and to higher NAD/NADH ratios but the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, oxidized form （NADP）-plus-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, reduced form （NADPH） pool sizes, and NAPD/NADPH ratios were much less affected. The ascorbate, glutathione, and pyridine nucleotide pools and PARP activity decreased before the exponential growth phase ended. Metal Concentration in Muscle Tissue of Carp and Pike from Different Fish Ponds in Belgrade Area

This study was conducted to determine the contamination data of some heavy metals in 10 fish tissue samples of two different fish species---common carp and Northern pike from four different fish ponds and to compare the level of contamination and the differences in the concentration of these elements between these two fish species and between compared fish ponds. In various fish ponds, metal concentrations in the carp muscle tissue varied depending on the metal type. Between compared fish ponds, there were significant differences （P 〈 0.01） in the concentration in muscle carp tissue, except for cadmium. Metal concentrations in the pike muscle tissue also varied among fish ponds, depending on the type of metal. In all compared cases, there were significant differences between metal concentration in pike muscle tissue （P 〈 0.01）. Lead and cadmium concentration in pike muscle tissue were significantly higher （P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0.05, respectively）, and mercury and arsenic concentration were significantly lower （P 〈 0.01） than concentration of this heavy metals in carp muscle tissue in all comapered fish ponds. The results obtained in this study indicate variation in a range of examined metal concentration in muscle tissue, which seems to be typical for the Serbian fish ponds, but is lower than those in rivers with considerable anthropogenic impact.
