BACKGROUND Pain in the back or pelv.s or fear of back pain may affect the timing or cocontraction of the core *** both static and dynamic mov.ments,the Sahrmann core stability test prov.des an assessment of core muscle activ.tion and a person's ability to stabilize the lumbopelv.c *** cues and images can be used to increase the activ.tion of these *** attain optimal mov.ment patterns,it will be necessary to determine what cueing will giv. the most effectiv. results for core *** To inv.stigate the effects of external and internal cues on core muscle activ.tion during the Sahrmann fiv.-lev.l core stability *** Total 68 participants(21.83±3.47 years)were randomly allocated to an external(n=35)or internal cue group(n=33).Participants performed the Sahrmann fiv.lev.l core stability test without a cue as baseline and the fiv.-lev.l stability exercises with an internal or external *** cue group receiv.d a pressure biofeedback unit(PBU),and the internal cue group receiv.d an audio cue.A Delsys Trigno^(TM)surface electromyography unit was used for muscle activ.tion from the rectus abdominis,external oblique,and transv.rse abdominis/internal oblique *** Linear mixed effects model analysis showed that cueing had a significant effect on core muscle activ.tion(P=0.001);howev.r,there was no significant difference between cue types(internal or external)(P=0.130).CONCLUSION Both external and internal cueing hav. significant effects on core muscle activ.tion during the Sahrmann fiv.-lev.l core stability test and the PBU does not create higher muscle activ.tion than internal cueing.

Ruthenium has been hailed as a competitiv. alternativ. for platinum toward hydrogen ev.lution reaction(HER),a critical process in electrochemical water *** this study,we successfully prepare metallic Ru nanoparticles supported on carbon paper by utilizing a nov.l magnetic induction heating(MIH)*** samples are obtained within seconds,featuring a Cl-enriched surface that is unattainable v.a conv.ntional thermal *** best sample within the series shows a remarkable HER activ.ty in both acidic and alkaline media with an ov.rpotential of only-23 and-12 mv.to reach the current density of 10 mA/cm^(2),highly comparable to that of the Pt/C *** studies based on density functional theory show that the excellent electrocatalytic activ.ty is accounted by the surface metal-Cl species that facilitate charge transfer and downshift the d-band *** from this study highlight the unique adv.ntages of MIH in rapid sample preparation,where residual anion ligands play a critical role in manipulating the electronic properties of the metal surfaces and the ev.ntual electrocatalytic activ.ty.

AIM To ev.luate outcomes associated with use of a saline coupled bipolar sealer during open partial liv.r *** This retrospectiv. analysis utilized the United States Premier? insurance claims database(2010-2014). Patients were selected with codes for liv.r malignancy and partial hepatectomy or lobectomy. Cases were defined by use the saline-coupled bipolar sealer; controls had no use. A Propensity Score algorithm was used to match one case to fiv. controls. A dev.ationbased cost modeling(DBCM) approach prov.ded an estimate of *** One hundred and forty-four cases and 720 controls were av.ilable for analysis. Patients in the case cohort receiv.d fewer transfusions v. controls(18.1% v. 29.4%, P = 0.007). In DBCM, more patients in the case cohort experienced "on-course" hospitalizations(53.5% v. 41.9%, P = 0.009). The cost calculation showed an av.rage sav.ngs in total hospitalization costs of $1027 for cases v. controls. In multiv.riate analysis, cases had lower odds of receiv.ng a transfusion(OR = 0.44, 95%CI: 0.27-0.71, P = 0.0008).CONCLUSION Use of a saline-coupled bipolar sealer was associated with a greater proportion of patients with an "on course" hospitalization.

With the adv.nt of safer and more efficient gene transfer methods, gene therapy has become a v.able solution for many inherited and acquired disorders. Hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs) are a prime cell compartment for gene therapy aimed at correcting blood-based disorders, as well as those amenable to metabolic outcomes that can effect cross-correction. While some resounding clinical successes hav. recently been demonstrated, ample room remains to increase the therapeutic output from HSC-directed gene therapy. In v.v. amplification of therapeutic cells is one av.nue to achiev. enhanced gene product deliv.ry. To date, attempts hav. been made to prov.de HSCs with resistance to cytotoxic drugs, to include druginducible growth modules specific to HSCs, and to increase the engraftment potential of transduced HSCs. This rev.ew aims to summarize amplification strategies that hav. been dev.loped and tested and to discuss their adv.ntages along with barriers faced towards their clinical adaptation. In addition, next-generation strategies to circumv.nt current limitations of specific amplification schemas are discussed.

Cobalamin uptake into cells is mediated by the CD320 receptor for transcobalamin-bound cobalamin. Optimum receptor expression is associated with proliferating cells and therefore, in many cancers this receptor expression is up regulated. Deliv.ring drugs or toxins v.a this receptor prov.des increased targeting to cancer cells while minimizing toxicity to the normal tissues. Saporin conjugated monoclonal antibodies to the extracellular domain of TCblR were effectiv.ly internalized to deliv.r a toxic dose of Saporin to some cancer cell lines propagating in culture. Antibody concentration of 2.5 nM was effectiv. in producing optimum inhibition of cell proliferation. The cytotoxic effect of mAb-Saporin appears to be dictated primarily by the lev.l of receptor expression and therefore normal primary cells expressing low lev.ls of CD320 were spared while tumor cell lines with higher CD320 expression were destroyed. Targeting the pathway for cellular uptake of v.tamin B12 v.a the CD320 receptor with toxin-antibody conjugates appears to be a v.able treatment strategy for certain cancers that ov.r expresses this receptor.

Radiotherapy is commonly offered to patients with pancreatic malignancies although its ultimate utility is compromised since the pancreas is surrounded by exquisitely radiosensitiv. normal tissues, such as the duodenum, stomach, jejunum, liv.r, and kidneys. Proton radiotherapy can be used to create dose distributions that conform to tumor targets with significant normal tissue sparing. Because of this, protons appear to represent a superior modality for radiotherapy deliv.ry to patients with unresectable tumors and those receiv.ng postoperativ. radiotherapy. A particularly exciting opportunity for protons also exists for patients with resectable and marginally resectable disease. In this paper, we rev.ew the current literature on proton therapy for pancreatic cancer and discuss scenarios wherein the improv.ment in the therapeutic index with protons may hav. the potential to change the management paradigm for this malignancy.
