Single-End Adaptive Optics Compensation for Emulated Turbulence in a Bi-Directional 10-Mbit/s per Channel Free-Space Quantum Communication Link Using Orbital-Angular-Momentum Encoding

A single-end adaptive-optics(AO)module is experimentally demonstrated to mitigate the emulated atmospheric turbulence efects in a bi-directional quantum communication link,which employs orbital angular momentum(OAM)for data encoding.A classical Gaussian beam is used as a probe to detect the turbulence-induced wavefront distortion in the forward direction of the *** on the detected wavefront distortion,an AO system located on one end of the link is used to simultaneously compensate for the forward and backward ***,with emulated turbulence and when the probe is turned on,the mode purity of photons carrying OAMℓ=1 is improved by∼21%with AO *** also measured the performance when encoding data using OAM{ℓ=−1,+2}and{ℓ=−2,+1}in the forward and backward channels,respectively,at 10 Mbit/s per channel with one photon per pulse on *** this case,we found that the AO system could reduce the turbulence efects increased quantum-symbolerror-rate(QSER)by∼76%and∼74%,for both channels in the uni-directional and bi-directional cases,*** QSER improvement is observed for the opposite direction channels in the bi-directional case.

Axial Breakthrough in Athens： Religious Topography and Transformation

Axial Age theory posits that there should be major transformations in Greece （as elsewhere） in the middle of the first millennium BCE. One could point to the creation of the world＇s first democracy in Athens in the years around 508. Equally important, and not unrelated to the democracy, was a re-conceptualizing of the role of religion and worship in society, for which Athens provides especially striking archeological evidence. The physical setting for religious expression changed markedly around the end of the sixth century, especially at Athens. The Agora was filled with cults, temples, and shrines of gods and heroes, laid out along with the establishment of the democracy and adapted to the changing political and social needs of the community. Conversely, the Acropolis, which had been strictly the domain of the goddess Athena, takes on a more civic character in the late sixth century with a radical change in the nature of votives dedicated to her. Thus, in the Greek version of axial breakthrough, religion is not set aside or diluted, but put in the service of a new political order.

Recent advances in flexible and stretchable electronics, sensors and power sources

There has been ongoing keen interest to mold electronic devices into desired shapes and be laid on desired configurable surfaces. In specific, the ability to design materials that can bend, twist, compress and stretch repeatedly, while still able to maintain its full capability as conductors or electrodes, has led to numerous efforts to develop flexible and stretchable (bio)devices that are both technologically challenging and environmentally friendly (e.g. biodegradable). In this review, we highlight several recent significant results that have made impacts toward the field of flexible and stretchable electronics, sensors and power sources.

Accurate diagnosis of Pancreatic cysts(PC) is key in the management. The knowledge of indications for surgery, the role of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration, cyst fluid analysis, imaging, and surveillance of PC are all important in the diagnosis and management of PC. Currently, there are many guidelines for the management of PC. The optimal use of these guidelines with a patient-centered approach helps diagnose early cancer and prevent the spread of cancer.

Is endoscopic ultrasound examination necessary in the management of esophageal cancer?

Despite substantial efforts at early diagnosis, accurate staging and advanced treatments, esophageal cancer(EC) continues to be an ominous disease worldwide. Risk factors for esophageal carcinomas include obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hard-alcohol use and tobacco smoking. Five-year survival rates have improved from 5% to 20% since the 1970 s, the result of advances in diagnostic staging and treatment. As the most sensitive test for locoregional staging of EC, endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) influences the development of an optimal oncologic treatment plan for a significant minority of patients with early cancers, which appropriately balances the risks and benefits of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. EUS is costly, and may not be available at all centers. Thus, the yield of EUS needs to be thoughtfully considered for each patient. Localized intramucosal cancers occasionally require endoscopic resection(ER) for histologic staging or treatment; EUS evaluation may detect suspicious lymph nodes prior to exposing the patient to the risks of ER. Although positron emission tomography(PET) has been increasingly utilized in staging EC, it may be unnecessary for clinical staging of early, localized EC and carries the risk of false-positive metastasis(over staging). In EC patients with evidence of advanced disease, EUS or PET may be used to define the radiotherapy field. Multimodality staging with EUS, crosssectional imaging and histopathologic analysis of ER, remains the standard-of-care in the evaluation of early esophageal cancers. herein, published data regarding use of EUS for intramucosal, local, regional and metastatic esophageal cancers are reviewed. An algorithm to illustrate the current use of EUS at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is presented.

Strengthening nanocomposite magnetism through microemulsion synthesis

The magnetic strength and versatility of heterostructures generated via a simple microemulsion cluster-formation technique is demonstrated. This approach allows optimization of individual component magnetic nanoparticles prior to heterostructuring, expediting the discovery and optimization of hybrid magnetic materials. The efficacy of this method is validated through a magnetic study of nanoparticle clusters combining antiferromagnetic CoO and superparamagnetic CoFe204 nanoparticles with tunable particle ratio and size. An enhancement of coercivity compared with pure CoFe204 nanoparticles indicates that close interparticle contacts are achieved. Upon annealing, an exchange bias field of 0.32 T was observed--over twice that achieved in any other colloidally-synthesized system. Additionally, the unique microstructure is defined during cluster formation and thus protects magnetic coercivity during the annealing process. Overall, this work demonstrates a general approach for quickly exploring magnetic parameter space, designing interparticle functionality, and working towards the construction of high-value bulk magnets with low materials and processing cost.

The Teodorescu Operator in Clifford Analysis

Euclidean Clifford analysis is a higher dimensional function theory centred around monogenic functions, i.e., null solutions to a first order vector valued rotation in- variant differential operator called the Dirac operator. More recently, hermitian Clifford analysis has emerged as a new branch, offering yet a refinement of the Euclidean case; it focuses on the simultaneous null solutions, called hermitian monogenic functions, to two hermitian Dirac operators and which are invariant under the action of the unitary group. In Euclidean Clifford analysis, the Teodorescu operator is the right inverse of the Dirac operator __0. In this paper, Teodorescu operators for the hermitian Dirac operators c9~_ and 0_~, are constructed. Moreover, the structure of the Euclidean and hermitian Teodor- escu operators is revealed by analyzing the more subtle behaviour of their components. Finally, the obtained inversion relations are still refined for the differential operators is- suing from the Euclidean and hermitian Dirac operators by splitting the Clifford algebra product into its dot and wedge parts. Their relationship with several complex variables theory is discussed.

how best to manage gastrointestinal stromal tumor

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) are rare but most common nonepithelial tumor of gastrointestinal tract. They are often found incidentally on computed tomography and endoscopic investigations. Increasing knowledge of the pathogenesis of GISTs and the advent of tyrosine kinase inhibitors revolutionized the management of GISTs. The newer advanced endoscopic techniques have challenged the conventional surgery although the true efficacy and safety of endoscopic approach is not clear at this time. This review article focuses on pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of GISTs.
