The study analyzes the technical efficiency of vegetable farmers in root and tuber-based farming systems within selected sites of the humid tropics of Cameroon. Multistage sampling was used to collect primary data from a cross-section of vegetable farmers drawn from eight selected sites in Santa sub division, northwest region of Cameroon. Stochastic frontier analysis was used to estimate the technical efficiency of vegetable farmer and to examine its determinants. The results showed that farmyard manure was the most productive factor input, followed by farm equipment and labor. The mean technical efficiency level was 67%, revealing production shortfalls and indicating possibilities of significantly increasing production with the current input Jevels. Female, as well as more educated farmers were found to be significantly more efficient than their counterparts. The results also showed that farmers become less technical efficient as farm sizes become larger. Our study findings suggest that smallholder farmers＇ access to manure, farm implements, and increased women participation in vegetable farming, will produce huge payoffs in vegetable production efficiency in Cameroon.

The use of medicinal plants occupies an important place in traditional Chadian medicine, this study was carried out with the aim of listing the medicinal plants sold in the markets of the city of n’Djamena, and knowledge of the medicinal flora Chad, such as the leaves of Guiera senegalensis in Arabic called Khibeche, the roots of Cassia occidentalis called Am kwala-Kinkéliba in Arabic;the bark of Khaya senegalensis (Desv) A. Juss called Muraї in Arabic and the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum called Helbé in Arabic in order to treat the most frequently cited diseases such as malaria, the common cold, mother and newborn care, and typhoid. Ethnobotanical surveys were conducted from September to December 2022, in three markets in the city of n’Djamena, based on individual interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire, with 30 herbalists and traditional practitioners. Phytochemical screening analyses of the organs of four plants were carried out in the chemistry and biology laboratory of the Faculty of Exact and Applied Sciences (FSEA) following a standard protocol established by [1] and slightly modified by [2] [3]. The results of the surveys identified 68 species divided into fifty-five (55) genera and twenty-seven (27) families, the most represented of which were Caesalpiniaceae (10 species), Mimosaceae (5 species) and Combretaceae (4 species). The leaves were the most commonly used parts (43%), with decoction (70%) the most frequently used method of preparation. The oral route was the most popular with 73% of recipes. The phytochemical study revealed a wealth of secondary metabolites such as Trapezoidal Sterols, Alkaloids, Tannins, Flavonoids, Free Quinones, Anthocyane, Anthraquinones, Saponosides and Heterosides. These results can be considered as a source of information for scientific research in the field of phytochemistry and pharmacology.

AIM:To determine the frequency and types of retinal diseases and the extend of the related visual loss in adult patients attending two public eye clinics of Kinshasa,Democratic Republic of ***:Review of medical records of patients with retinal diseases seen in the major eye clinics in Kinshasa,the University Hospital of Kinshasa(UHK)and Saint Joseph Hospital(SJH),from January 2012 to December *** and diagnoses were retrieved and *** measures were frequency and prevalence of retinal diseases,blindness and low ***:A total of 40965 patients aged 40 y or older were examined during this period in both *** these,1208 had retinal disease,giving a 3-year and an annual prevalence of 3%and 1%,*** age was 61.7±10.7 y,and 55.8%of the patients were *** hypertension(68.1%)and diabetes(43.3%)were the most common systemic *** retinopathy(41.8%),diabetic retinopathy(37.9%),age-related macular degeneration(AMD;14.6%),and chorioretinitis and retinal vein occlusion(7.3%each)were the most common retinal diseases,with 3-year prevalence rates of 1.3%,1.0%,0.43%,and 0.21%*** low vision and blindness were present in 26.8%and 8.4%of the patients at *** causes of low vision and blindness were diabetic retinopathy(14.8%),AMD(4.9%),retinal detachment(2.8%),and retinal vein occlusion(2.5%).The prevalence was significantly higher among males than females,and at the UHK than ***:Retinal diseases are common among Congolese adult patients attending eye clinics in *** cause a significant proportion of low vision and blindness.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) worldwide due to the high prevalence of HCV infection and the high rate of HCC occurrence in patients with HCV cirrhosis. A striking increase in HCC incidence has been observed during the past decades in most industrialized countries, partly related to the growing number of patients infected by HCV. HCC is currently the main cause of death in patients with HCV-related cirrhosis, a fact that justifies screening as far as curative treatments apply only in patients with small tumors. As a whole, treatment options are similar in patients with cirrhosis whatever the cause. Chemoprevention could be also helpful in the near future. It is strongly suggested that antiviral treatment of HCV infection could prevent HCC occurrence, even in cirrhotic patients, mainly when a sustained virological response is obtained.

AIM To study complete dose-dependent effects of obestatin on lipolytic and glucose transport activities in human adipocyte preparations highly responsive to *** Adipocytes were prepared by liberase digestion from subcutaneous abdominal adipose tissue obtained from overweight subjects undergoing plastic surgery. The index of lipolytic activity was the glycerol released in the incubation medium, while glucose transport was assessed by [~3H]-2-deoxyglucose uptake *** When tested from 0.1 nmol/L to 1 μmol/L, obestatin did not stimulate glycerol release; it did not inhibit the lipolytic effect of isoprenaline and did not alter the insulin antilipolytic effect. Obestatin hardly activated glucose transport at 1 μmol/L only. Moreover, the obestatin stimulation effect was clearly lower than the threefold increase induced by insulin 100 nmol/*** Low doses of obestatin cannot directly influence lipolysis and glucose uptake in human fat cells.

The aim of this article is to present the contribution of Wu Wen-Tsün to Algebraic Topology and more precisely to the theory of characteristic classes. Several papers provide complete and welldocumented biography and academic career of Wu Wen-Tsün, in particular, Hudecek, 2014; O'Connor and Robertson, 2006; Wen-Tsün Wu's Academic Career, 2006; Selected works of Wen-Tsun Wu, *** author does not repeat the details provided in these papers concerning the Wu Wen-Tsün's bibliography, we will just mention people involved in the Wu Wen-Tsün's period in *** addition to Wu Wen-Tsün's papers, the Dieudonné's book(Dieudonné, 1960) provides an excellent presentation of main results of Wu Wen-Tsün in Algebraic and Differential Topology. The author will use and abuse of this book(and refer to) when *** the introduction, the author recalls mainly historical facts concerning the contribution of Wu Wen-Tsün to Algebraic Topology. The second section shows speci?cally the contribution of Wu WenTsün to the Stiefel-Whitney classes and introduces the third section, dealing with the(real) Wu *** author provides de?nition, properties as well as further developments and generalizations of the Wu classes. The fourth and ?fth sections are devoted to recent applications: In Cobordism theory and in Mathematical Physics. The author notices that Wu classes have been used as well in other domains,in particular surgery theory(Madsen and Milgram, 1979). The last section concerns the complex Wu classes and shows that the more recent Mather classes coincide with the previously de?ned complex Wu classes, that is a result from Zhou(1994)(see also Liu, 1996).This article is devoted to the contribution of Wu Wen-Tsün to the theory of Characteristic Classes,which coincides with his "French period"(1947–1951). Objective:To scrutinize the definitions of minimal invasive surgical therapy(MIST)and to investigate urologists’knowledge,attitudes,and practices for benign prostatic obstruction ***:A 36-item survey was developed with a Delphi *** on definitions of MIST and attitudes and practices of benign prostatic obstruction surgeries were *** were invited globally to complete the online *** was achieved when more than or equal to 70%responses were“agree or strongly agree”and less than or equal to 15%responses were“disagree or strongly disagree”(consensus agree),or when more than or equal to 70%responses were“disagree or strongly disagree”and less than or equal to 15%responses were“agree or strongly agree”(consensus disagree).Results:The top three qualities for defining MIST were minimal blood loss(n=466,80.3%),fast post-operative recovery(n=431,74.3%),and short hospital stay(n=425,73.3%).The top three surgeries that were regarded as MIST were Urolift®(n=361,62.2%),Rezum®(n=351,60.5%),and endoscopic enucleation of the prostate(EEP)(n=332,57.2%).Consensus in the knowledge section was achieved for the superiority of Urolift®,Rezum®,and iTInD®over transurethral resection of the prostate with regard to blood loss,recovery,day surgery feasibility,and post-operative *** in the attitudes section was achieved for the superiority of Urolift®,Rezum®,and iTInD®over transurethral resection of the prostate with regard to blood loss,recovery,and day surgery *** on both sections was achieved for EEP as the option with the better symptoms and flow improvement,lower retreatment rate,and better suitable for prostate more than 80 ***:Minimal blood loss,fast post-operative recovery,and short hospital stay were the most important qualities for defining ***®,Rezum®,and EEP were regarded as MIST by most urologists.

BACKGROUnD When combined with vanadium salts,catecholamines strongly activate glucose uptake in rat and mouse *** To test whether catecholamines activate glucose transport in human *** The uptake of 2-deoxyglucose(2-DG)was measured in adipocytes isolated from pieces of abdominal subcutaneous tissue removed from women undergoing reconstructive *** approaches with amine oxidase inhibitors,adrenoreceptor agonists and antioxidants were performed to unravel the mechanisms of action of noradrenaline or adrenaline(also named epinephrine).RESULTS In human adipocytes,45-min incubation with 100μmol/L adrenaline or noradrenaline activated 2-DG uptake up to more than one-third of the maximal response to *** stimulation was not reproduced with millimolar doses of dopamine or serotonin and was not enhanced by addition of vanadate to the incubation *** various natural amines and adrenergic agonists tested,no other molecule was more efficient than adrenaline and noradrenaline in stimulating 2-DG *** effect of the catecholamines was not impaired by pargyline and semicarbazide,contrarily to that of benzylamine or methylamine,which are recognized substrates of semicarbazide-sensitive amine *** peroxide at 1 mmol/L activated hexose uptake but not pyrocatechol or benzoquinone,and only the former was potentiated by *** and the phosphoinositide 3-kinase inhibitor wortmannin inhibited adrenaline-induced activation of 2-DG *** High doses of catecholamines exert insulin-like actions on glucose transport in human *** submillimolar doses,vanadium did not enhance this catecholamine activation of glucose ***,this dismantles our previous suggestion to combine the metal ion with catecholamines to improve the benefit/risk ratio of vanadium-based antidiabetic approaches.
