Effect of High-Speed Solar Winds turbulence Upstream of the Earth’s Magnetosphere: Case of the Outer Minima of Solar Cycles 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24

Highly turbulent environment, the solar wind is a stream of very energetic particles mainly made of protons and electrons. During its trip in the interplanetary space, this solar flow becomes more accelerated during the outer minima (descending phases) of the solar cycles and can therefore influence all of humanity and its technology. these disturbances lead to socio-economic consequences requiring a precise knowledge of the climate variability. Using a statistical approach, we evaluate the response of the Earth’s magnetosphere to the High-Speed Solar Winds (HSSW) forcing during the peaks of the last five outer minima. to do so, 1UA data of solar wind and magnetic field parameters were extracted from OMNI browser. Analysis of the energetic solar plasma particles shows that strong geomagnetic field variations can occur even in the absence of large solar disturbances. While the normalized reconnection rate was estimated to be ~21% of the total variance of the magnetospheric variables, the upstream of the magnetic cavity was perturbed 80% of the time with large energies recorded. As a result, Earth’s magnetosphere becomes denser (i.e., more drag), which is a problem for spacecraft. thus, the coupled solar wind-magnetosphere system follows scale-invariant dynamics and is in a state far from equilibrium. Our analysis provides insight into the main cause of geomagnetic storms with more than 97% of HSSW imposed in the range 300 - 850 km/s. these high-speeds lead to auroras that can disrupt electrical and communication systems.

Women gradually lose bone from the age of〜35 years,but around menopause,the rate of bone loss escalates due to increasing bone resorption and decreasing bone formation levels,rendering these individuals more prone to developing *** increased osteoclast activity has been linked to a reduced estrogen level and other hormonal ***,it is unclear whether intrinsic changes in osteoclast precursors around menopause can also explain the increased osteoclast ***,we set up a protocol in which CD14f blood monocytes were isolated from 49 female donors(40-66 years old).Cells were differentiated into osteoclasts,and data on differentiation and resorption activity were *** multiple linear regression analyses combining in vitro and in vivo data,we found the following:(1)age and menopausal status correlate with aggressive osteoclastic bone resorption in vitro;(2)the type I procollagen N-terminal propeptide level in vivo inversely correlates with osteoclast resorption activity in vitro;(3)the protein level of mature cathepsin K in osteoclasts in vitro increases with age and menopause;and(4)the promoter of the gene encoding the dendritic cell-specific transmembrane protein is less methylated with *** conclude that monocytes are"reprogrammed"in vivo,allowing them to"remember"age,the menopausal status,and the bone formation status in vitro,resulting in more aggressive *** discovery suggests that this may be mediated through DNA *** suggest that this may have clinical implications and could contribute to understanding individual differences in age-and menopause-induced bone loss.

Modeling and numerical analysis of granite rock specimen under mechanical loading and fire

the effect of ISO 834 fire on the mechanical properties of granite rock specimen submitted to uniaxial loading is numerically investigated. Based on Newton＇s second law, the rate-equation model of granite rock specimen under mechanical load and fire is established. the effect of heat treatment on the me- chanical performance of granite is analyzed at the center and the ends of specimen. At the free end of granite rock specimen, it is shown that from 20 ~C to 500 ~C, the internal stress and internal strain are weak; whereas above 500 ~C, they start to increase rapidly, announcing the imminent collapse. At the center of specimen, the analysis of the internal stress and internal strain reveals that the fire reduces the mechanical performance of granite significantly. Moreover, it is found that after 3 min of exposure to fire, the mechanical energy necessary to fragment the granite can be reduced up to 80%.

the present aim is to update, upon arrival of new learning data, the parameters of a score constructed with an ensemble method involving linear discriminant analysis and logistic regression in an online setting, without the need to store all of the previously obtained data. poisson bootstrap and stochastic approximation processes were used with online standardized data to avoid numerical explosions, the convergence of which has been established theoretically. this empirical convergence of online ensemble scores to a reference “batch” score was studied on five different datasets from which data streams were simulated, comparing six different processes to construct the online scores. For each score, 50 replications using a total of 10N observations (N being the size of the dataset) were performed to assess the convergence and the stability of the method, computing the mean and standard deviation of a convergence criterion. A complementary study using 100N observations was also performed. All tested processes on all datasets converged after N iterations, except for one process on one dataset. the best processes were averaged processes using online standardized data and a piecewise constant step-size.
