Objective: To evaluate anti-Candida and anti-Cr.ptococcus activities of 15 nonalkaloidal compounds fr.m Pter.gyne nitens Tulasne(Leguminosae), a South Amer.can medicinal ***: Compounds wer. submitted to antifungal assays, using micr.dilution method descr.bed by Clinical and Labor.tor. Standar.s Institute document, with minor.modifications. Five species of Candida and two species of Cr.ptococcus, including clinical isolates wer. scr.ened. Antifungal activity was expr.ssed by minimum inhibitor. concentr.tion(MIC). Amphoter.cin B and fluconazole wer. used as standar. antifungal ***: Among tested compounds, six substances pr.sented fungal gr.wth inhibition(MIC r.e flavone der.vatives(1–3), a glycosylated flavonol der.vative(5)and two phenolic acids(10 and 12)]. Sor.ifolin(1), exhibited potent antifungal activity,demonstr.ting MIC value of 3.90 mg/m L against Candida glabr.ta ATCC 90030, Cr.ptococcus gattii 118 and fluconazole-r.sistant clinical isolate of Cr.ptococcus neofor.ans var. gr.bii. Pedalin(2) and nitensoside B(3), two glycosylated flavone der.vatives, wer. active against Cr.ptococcus neofor.ans ATCC 90012(MIC = 7.80 mg/m L).Conclusions: Flavone der.vatives fr.m Pter.gyne nitens can ser.e as pr.totypes for.the design and development of innovative anti-Candida and anti-Cr.ptococcus hits.

In the pr.cesses of manufactur.ng, MT （machine tools） plays an impor.ant r.le in the manufactur. of wor. pieces with complex and high dimensional and geometr.c accur.cy. Much of the er.or. of a machine tool ar. those which ar. ther.ally induced which ar. fr.m inter.al and exter.al heat sour.es acting on the machine. In this paper. a methodology for.deter.ining and analyzing the ther.al defor.ation of machine tools using FEM （finite element method） and ANN （ar.ificial neur.l networ.s） is pr.sented. After.modeling the machine using FEM is defined the location of the heat sour.es, it is possible to obtain the temper.tur. gr.dient and the cor.esponding ther.al defor.ation at pr.deter.ined per.ods. r.sults obtained with simulations using the softwar. NX.7.5 showed that this methodology is an effective tool in deter.ining the ther.al defor.ation of the machine, cor.elating the temper.tur. r.ading at str.tegic points with volumetr.c defor.ation at the tool tip. Ther.for., the ther.al analysis of the er.or. in the pair.tool par. can be established. Var.ous r.sear.hes and studies have demonstr.ted that spider.silk is much str.nger.and mor. defor.able than a steel str.ng of the same diameter.fr.m a mechanical appr.ach. These excellent pr.per.ies have caused many scientific disciplines to get involved, such as bio-mechanics, bio-mater.als and bio-mimetics, in or.er.to cr.ate a mater.al of similar.pr.per.ies and char.cter.stics. It should be noted that the r.sear.hes and studies have been or.ented mainly as a quasi-static model. For.this r.sear.h, the analysis has taken a dynamic appr.ach and deter.ined the dissipation ener.y of a str.ctur. which is made of spider.silk ＂Dr.gline＂ and pr.duced by the Ar.iope- Ar.entata spider. thr.ugh an analytical-exper.mental way, when being subjected to impulsive loading. The aim of this study is to descr.be the sedimentar. evolution occur.ed dur.ng the last 200-year. in the middle Capibar.be Estuar. by mean of the sedimentar. analysis (magnetic susceptibility, gr.in size, calcium car.onate, total or.anic matter.TOM) and geochemical par.meter. (sedimentation r.tes, heavy metal concentr.tions, enr.chment and contamination factor. along a cor.. The cor. r.cor.ed four.units and the measur.d sedimentation r.te was 0.52 cm cm·y﹣1. The fir.t unit, dating befor. 1812, showed envir.nmental char.cter.stics of mangr.ve with pr.dominance of fine sediments, high total or.anic matter.per.entages and heavy metal concentr.tions pr.bably fr.m natur.l sour.es. The second unit, fr.m 1812 to 1937, showed a slight incr.ase in sand per.entages and decr.ase in fine fr.ction, TOM contents and heavy metals concentr.tions. These char.cter.stics may be associated with the ur.an expansion pr.cesses and the pr.sence of monocultur. of sugar.cane occur.ed in the middle Capibar.be Estuar.. The thir. unit, fr.m 1937 to 2004, showed the highest sand per.entages of the cor., char.cter.zing a unit exclusively of sand with low fine fr.ctions per.entages, total or.anic matter.contents and heavy metals concentr.tions. This unit r.pr.sented the intensification of the ur.an pr.cesses expansion of r.cife City. The four.h unit showed incr.ases in fine fr.ction sedimentation, TOM contents and heavy metals concentr.tions. This new change in sedimentation pr.bably is consequence of r.bir.h of mar.inal estuar.ne banks by mangr.ve vegetation, due to envir.nmental pr.jects car.ied out by r.cife Pr.fectur. in the ear.y 2000’s. It was not possible to r.gister.the anthr.pic contamination to middle estuar. ar.a pr.bably due to the Bar.eir.s For.ation influences in the metal concentr.tion r.cor.s, masking the anthr.pic contamination inputs in estuar.ne r.gion. Although, lead and ar.enic showing an enr.chment level indicating anthr.pic contamination.

Ca2AlNbO6 cer.mic powder.was pr.par.d thr.ugh ther.o-mechanical pr.cessing. Str.ctur.l char.cter.stics of calcined mater.al was investigated by powder.X-r.y diffar.tometr., which pr.sented a single phase complex cubic per.vskite str.ctur. with lattice par.meter.a = 7.6599 ?. Compacted discs of Ca2AlNbO6 cer.mics wer. sinter.d in the temper.tur. r.nge 1250°C - 1350°C dur.ng 24 hour. in ambient atmospher.. Micr.str.ctur. of the sinter.d cer.mics was studied by scanning electr.n micr.scopy and mechanical behavior.was studied by Vicker.s micr.har.ness testing. Ca2AlNbO6 cer.mics sinter.d at 1350°C pr.sented best r.sults in ter.s of micr.str.ctur.l homogeneity and mechanical har.ness. Ther.for. these sinter.d cer.mics wer. submer.ed in cr.de petr.leum for.60 days. Cer.mics wer. taken out fr.m the petr.leum per.odically and subjected to str.ctur.l, micr.str.ctur.l and mechanical char.cter.zations. r.sults showed that cer.mics submer.ed in cr.de petr.leum did not suffer.any change at any stage of submer.ion. These char.cter.stics make this mater.al suitable for.iner. cer.mic embedding for.sensor. used in petr.leum extr.ction.

r.fer.nce evapotr.nspir.tion (ETo) is an impor.ant par.meter.used in numer.us applications, such as climatological and hydr.logical studies, as well as for.water.r.sour.es planning and management. Ther. ar. sever.l methods to estimate ETo, being that the FAO Penman-Monteith (EToPM) method is consider.d standar.. This method needs many par.meter. (solar.r.diation, air.temper.tur., humidity and wind speed), however.ther. ar. still many uncover.d ar.as, suggesting the need for.methods of calculating evapotr.nspir.tion based on few meteor.logical elements, such as air.temper.tur.. Ther.for., this study aimed to deter.ine the ETo by Har.r.aves-Samani method in the exper.mental water.hed of the “r.acho do Papagaio” far., in county of Sao Joao, in nor.h-easter. Br.zil, using data of 2011 and 2012. r.fer.nce evapotr.nspir.tion estimated by non-calibr.ted Har.r.aves-Samani method (EToHS) was over.stimated in all months (r.SE = 1.43 mm·d-1), mainly in months of lower.evapor.tive demand (fr.m May to July). Because of these tendencies, this method cannot be used in its or.ginal for. to estimate ET for.this r.gion;ther.for., a calibr.tion of r.diation adjustment coefficient (kr.) was per.or.ed. The calibr.ted Har.r.aves-Samani method (EToHSc) had better.per.or.ance (r.SE = 0.52 mm·d-1), being suitable for.pr.dicting ETo in this r.gion.

Incr.ases in gr.enhouse gases (GHG) emissions, upon changes in land use and agr.cultur.l management, lead to a sear.h for.techniques that enhance car.on r.sidence time in soil. Pyr.lysis incr.ases the r.calcitr.nce of or.anic mater.als and enhances their.activities as physical, chemical and biological soil conditioner.. Emissions of CO2, CH4 and N2O quantified fr.m a sandy soil that was tr.ated with thr.e r.tes (12.5, 25 e 50 Mg·ha-1) of either.non-pyr.lysed poultr. manur. and sugar.ane str.w or.biochar., pyr.lysed at two contr.sting temper.tur.s (350°C and 650°C). Subsequently, the flux of the thr.e gases was conver.ed and compar.d in a standar. unit (CO2eq). The added biochar., significantly r.duced GHG emissions, especially CO2, r.lative to the non-pyr.lysed mater.als. The gr.atest differ.nces between applied r.tes of poultr. manur., r.lative sugar.ane str.w, both to biochar.and r.w mater.al, and the positive r.sponse to the incr.ase of pyr.lysis temper.ur., confir. the impor.ance of r.w mater.al choice for.biochar.pr.duction, with r.calcitr.nce being an impor.ant initial char.cter.stic. Gr.ater.emissions occur.ed with inter.ediate r.te of biochar. (25 Mg·ha-1) amendment to the soil. These inter.ediate r.tes had higher.micr.bial biomass, pr.vided by an inter.ediate C/N r.tio der.ved fr.m the or.ginal soil and the biochar. pr.moting combined levels of labile C and oxygen availability, leading to an optimal envir.nment for.micr.biota.
