The strategies for thermal regulation and envir on mental control found in nature are countless. In this article, a parallelism between animals and building energy systems is defined in order to identJfy and emphasize the immediate opportunities that biomimicry offers for future research. The motivation was the need to find alternative solutions to tackle problems mainly in the efficiency of heating, ventilation and cooling systems. Due to the wide range of possibilities offered by animals, this study is largely limited to the strategies that cold-blooded animals have developed through evolutionary adaptation to the environment. The method used for the an a lysis is based on a soluti on-based approach. Firstly, differe nt animal thermoregulation strategies are defined (biological domain). Then the strategy is an a lyzed and classified into three categories. This classification is esse ntial in order to formulate the parallelism with building systems (transfer phase). The final step is to identify the potential implementation (technological domain).This approach has been seen to be useful in creating new research opportunities based on biomimicry. In addition, suitable solutions arising from multidisciplinary team research are presented as promising answers to the challenges that building energy systems face no wadays.

Ethanol steam reforming has been studied in a fluidized bed （in order to ensure bed isothermicity） on commercial catalysts for methane reforming. The results allow analyzing the effect of temperature （in 300-700℃ range）, and both metal and support nature on the reaction indices （ethanol conversion, yields and selectivities to H2 and byproducts （CO2, CO, CH4 and C2H4O））. Special attention has been paid to catalysts＇ stability by comparing the evolution of the reaction indices with time on stream at 500°C （minimum CO formation） and 700℃ （minimum deactivation by coke deposition）. Although they provide a slightly lower H2 yield, the results evidence a good behaviour of Ni based catalysts, indicating that they are an interesting alternative of more expensive Rh based ones.

Natural History of Symptomatic Meniscal Tears: Arthroscopic Evaluation of Chondral Damage at 4-Year Minimum

Background: The natural history of meniscal tears is unclear. Studies have tried to clarify many aspects. Association with chondral injuries are of main relevance to the long-term status of the knee but evidence is limited. Objective: The aim of this study is to describe the intraarticular state of the knee focused on chondral injury in patients with persistent symptomatic meniscal tears that were untreated for a minimum period of 4 years. Methods: A total of 47 patients with symptomatic meniscal tears in whom surgery was indicated but was delayed mainly for administrative reasons, were recruited between January 1st, 2004 and April 30th, 2010 in a regional hospital. Follow up ended until circumstances allowed surgical resolution through arthroscopy. Only patients with meniscal tear in which diagnosis was confirmed and remained symptomatic were included. Patients with initial grade IV Kellgren-Lawrence osteo-arthritis were excluded. Statistical chi-square and logistic regression analysis were used. Results: Mean follow up period was 5.8 years (range: 4.3 - 10.2 years). 57 meniscal injuries were found in 47 patients. 25 were lateral and 32 medial meniscal tears. Overall, 29 patients had articular cartilage damage (51%). Chondral injuries were found in 15 of 25 lateral meniscal lesions (60%) and 14 of 32 medial lesions (44%). Patients with lateral compartment meniscal injury had a relative risk (RR) of 2.5 of developing chondral injury (p-value 0.05). Compared to 51% of patients with associated chondral and meniscal damage (n = 29), only 12% of patients with healthy meniscus (n = 7) had chondral injury (p-value 0.05). Conclusion: Persistent symptomatic meniscal tears after medium to long term (4 to 10 years) are associated with chondral damage in 51% of patients. Chondral damage associated with meniscal tears is usually deep and involves femur and tibial sides. ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL5 （HY5）, a member of the bZlP transcription factor family, inhibits hypocotyl growth and lateral root development, and promotes pigment accumulation in a light-dependent manner in Arabidopsis. Recent research on its role in different processes such as hormone, nutrient, abiotlc stress （abscisic acid, salt, cold）, and reactive oxygen species signaling pathways clearly places HY5 at the center of a transcriptional network hub. HY5 regulates the transcription of a large number of genes by directly binding to cis-regulatory elements. Recently, HY5 has also been shown to activate its own expression under beth visible and UV-B light. Moreover, HY5 acts as a signal that moves from shoot to root to promote nitrate uptake and root growth. Here, we review recent advances on HY5 research in diverse aspects of plant development and highlight still open questions that need to be addressed in the near future for a complete understanding of its function in plant signaling and beyond.

对生物质热解挥发物蒸汽重整反应过程中催化剂的失活过程和主要机理进行了研究.在圆锥形喷动床反应器中于500℃进行生物质热解,随后在固定床反应器中于600℃进行重整反应;同时在不同轴向位置分析了催化剂位置对重整反应器的影响.采用N_(2)吸附-脱附、X射线衍射、扫描电镜、透射电镜、程序升温氧化、拉曼光谱和傅里叶变换红外光谱对失活样品进行表征.结果表明,焦炭沉积是初始催化剂活性衰减的主要原因,且没有观察到镍位点的烧结或氧化.随着反应的进行,沿着重整催化床观察到失活情况,焦炭沉积于催化剂内,其性质和组成取决于到达床中每个轴向位置的挥发物组成.在催化床的入口部分,焦炭沉积在Ni位点上,并且具有一定的含氧量.在更深的轴向床位置,催化剂与挥发性物质接触,该挥发性物质的组成已经明显改变,从而形成具有石墨化程度更高的焦炭,并且形成更多的缩合聚芳烃化合物.此外,沉积在所有失活样品上的焦炭没有呈现任何特定的形态,这也表明,无论所处的催化床位置和反应时间,焦炭均呈现无定形结构.
