Effect of climate change on spatial distribution of scorpions of significant public health importance in Iran

Objective:To establish a spatial geo-database for scorpions in Iran,and to identify the suitable ecological niches for the most dangerous scorpion species under different climate change ***:The spatial distribution of six poisonous scorpion species of Iran were modeled:Hemiscorpius lepturus,Androctonus crassicauda,Mesobuthus eupeus,Hottentotta saulcyi,Hottentotta zagrosensis,and Odontobuthus(O.)doriae,under RCP2.6 and RCP8.5 climate change *** Max Ent ecological niche model was used to predict climate suitability for these scorpion species in the 2030 s and 2050 s,and the data were compared with environmental suitability under the current bioclimatic ***:A total of 73 species and subspecies of scorpions belonging to 19 genera in Iran were *** Province has the highest species diversity with 34 species and *** most poisonous scorpion species of Iran are scattered in the semi-arid climates,at an altitudinal range between 11 m and 2954 m above sea *** is projected that ***,Androctonus crassicauda and Mesobuthus eupeus species would be widely distributed in most parts of the country,whereas the most suitable ecological niches for the other species would be limited to the west and/or southwestern part of ***:Although the environmental suitability for all the species would change under the two climate change scenarios,the change would be more significant for *** under RCP8.5 in the 2050 *** findings can be used as basis for future studies in the areas with the highest environmental suitability for the most dangerous scorpion species to fill the gaps in the ecology of scorpion species in these areas.

First survey of hard ticks(Acari: Ixodidae) on cattle, sheep and goats in Boeen Zahra and Takistan counties, Iran

Objective:To carry out the distribution survey of hard ticks of livestock in Boeen Zahra and Takistan counties of Qazvin province from April 2010 to September ***:Nearly about 2638 sheep, 461 goats and 318 cattle of 38 herds in different geographical areas were searched for tick ***:The species compositions collected from the livestock of Boeen Zahra and Takistan wereHaemaphysalis concinna(0.63%),Haemaphysalis sulcata(12.66%),Hyalomma anatolicum(3.80%),Hyalomma asiaticum(3.16%),Hyalomma detritum(5.70%),Hyalomma dromedarii(28.48%),Hyalomma marginatum(13.29%),Hyalomma schulzei(1.89%),Rhipicephalus bursa(3.16%) and Rhipicephalus sanguineus(3.16%), and for Takistan's livestock were Hyalomma dromedarii(9.86%),Hyalomma marginatum(13.29%),Hyalomma schulzei(1.89%) and Rhipicephalus sanguineus(3.16%), respectively. Hard ticks compositions in different topographic areas were *** had the most prevalence in the ***:The veterinary and public health investigation of the above species should be taken.

Fauna and relative frequency of synanthropic flies in the biggest Persian Gulf Island,Qeshm,Iran

Objective:To identify the diversity and relative abundance of medically important species of synanthropic flies and their seasonal activity on Qeshm Island in Persian Gulf,***:Flies collection was performed during March 2011 to February 2012 in all different areas of the island by using the common fly trap and plastic water bottle fly trap,reverse-cone model,containing tainted lamb or beef meat as *** captured flies were identified by using valid flies systematic keys,checklists and species *** relative abundances and seasonal activity of flies were estimated by means of flies captured per trap in every ***:In this study a total number of 11 species of medically important flies in three families including Calliphoridae,Sarcophagidae and Muscidae,were *** relative mean abundance of flies was estimated to be 6.3±1.1 per *** most abundance was seen in rural areas in the south of Qeshm Island with 10.1±1.5 per *** this island,medically impotent flies had two peaks of activity in early spring and early autumn,during April and *** activity decreased in July and August due to the high increase of temperature and humidity of the *** February,the relative decrease in air temperature reduced the activity of the ***:Diversity and abundance of flies in spring and early autumn were higher than other seasons,especially in rural areas of Southern Qeshm *** control measures should be conducted during the peak of flies activity.

Objective:To study agents of animal wound myiasis in various geographical districts of Fars ***:This study has been done in Fars province,located in the southern part of *** of 10358 domestic animals have been visited from April 2011 to March *** infected wounds in any parts of animal body were sampled by means of ***:About 61%of all animal wound myiasis were caused by larvae of Wohlfahrtia *** most wound myiasis cases due to this species occurred in central part of Fars *** wasn't any significant difference between sheep and goat in infestation with myiasis(P>0.05).The infestation rate of myiasis in cattle community was 0.86%.Conclusions:The infestation rate of livestock was lower than other works in Iran and some other countries like Saudi *** bezziana has been mentioned as main myiasis agent in *** in this study it cleared that similarly to some European countries,the common animal myiasis agent in Iran is Wohlfahrtia *** new species as principal agent for myiasis can help public health and animal husbandry policy makers to prepare sufficient and effective control and/or preventive measures for this disease.
