The five papers in this special issue are the products of the idea development work- shop on Organizational Behavior held by Frontiers of Business Research in China （FBR） at the Renmin Business School （Renmin University of China） in September 2017. In addition to their high quality, the papers represent the variety as well as theor- etical and practical value of top-quality studies of behavior in organizations. In this brief commentary, I offer a few comments on each paper and thoughts for future re- searchers interested in these topic areas.

Male cognition has gained recognition as an important potential player in sexual selection. A number of studies have found positive correlations between male sexual signals and cognitive performance an d/or female pref ere nces for males with better cog nitive performance, although other studies have not fou nd these relati on ships. Sex roles can differ dramatically, and sex differen ces in selection on cog nition likely follow from the different tasks associated with these sex roles. Here, using threespine stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus, a species with clearly diverge nt sex roles and mutual mate choice, we focus on the cognitive trait inhibitory control because males must differentially respond to reproductive females versus other sticklebacks while defending territories and refrain from eating eggs and fry while performing paternal care. We presented fish with a detour task four times over a period of 7 days, allowing us to assess initial inhibitory control and improvement over time. We ask 1) whether there are sex differences in inhibitory control and 2) whether male mate choice is associated with female inhibitory control. Although males outperformed females on three different measures of detour task performance across four trials, these differences were largely explained by males being less neophobic than females. Females took more trials to successfully solve the detour task, even after accounting for sex differences in neophobia. Female cognitive abilities, however, were unrelated to the vigor with which males courted them. The equivocal results regarding sex differences in cognitive ability suggest further study given the very different selection pressures each sex experiences.

Use of Incremental Analysis Updates in 4d-Var data Assimilation

The four-dimensional variational （4d-Var） data assimilation systems used in most operational and research centers use initial condition increments as control variables and adjust initial increments to find optimal analysis solutions. This approach may sometimes create discontinuities in analysis fields and produce undesirable spin ups and spin downs. This study explores using incremental analysis updates （IAU） in 4d-Var to reduce the analysis discontinuities. IAU-based 4d-Var has almost the same mathematical formula as conventional 4d-Var if the initial condition increments are replaced with time-integrated increments as control variables. The IAU technique was implemented in the NASA/GSFC 4d-Var prototype and compared against a control run without IAU. The results showed that the initial precipitation spikes were removed and that other discontinuities were also reduced, especially for the analysis of surface temperature.

The bHLH transcription factor Twist1 has emerged as a negative regulator of chondrogenesis in skeletal progenitor cells and as an inhibitor of maturation in growth plate ***,its role in articular cartilage remains *** we examine Twist1 expression during re-differentiation of expanded human articular chondrocytes,the distribution of Twist1 proteins in normal versus OA human articular cartilage,and its role in modulating OA development in *** levels of Twist1 transcripts were detected by qPCR analyses of expanded de-differentiated human articular chondrocytes that had acquired mesenchymal-like *** induction of hallmark cartilage genes by Bmp-2 mediated chondrogenic differentiation was paralleled by the dramatic suppression of Twist1 in *** normal human articular cartilage,Twist1-expressing chondrocytes were most abundant in the superficial zone with little to no expression in the middle and deep ***,our analyses revealed a higher proportion of deep zone articular chondrocytes expressing Twist1 in human OA cartilage as compared to normal articular ***,Twist1 expression was prominent within proliferative cell clusters near fissure sites in more severely affected OA *** assess the role of Twist1 in OA pathophysiology,we subjected wild type mice and transgenic mice with gain of Twist1 function in cartilage to surgical destabilization of the medial *** 12 weeks post-surgery,micro-CT and histological analyses revealed attenuation of the OA phenotype in Twist1 transgenic mice compared to wild type ***,the data reveal a role for Twist in articular cartilage maintenance and the attenuation of cartilage degeneration.

Background:Rabies is a neglected disease despite being responsible for more human deaths than any other zoonosis.A lack of adequate human and dog surveillance,resulting in low prioritization,is often blamed for this *** methods are often employed to describe the rabies burden when surveillance data are not available,however these figures are rarely based on country-specific ***:In 2013 a knowledge,attitudes,and practices survey was conducted in Uganda to understand dog population,rabies vaccination,and human rabies risk factors and improve in-country and regional rabies burden *** and multi-level logistic regression techniques were conducted to estimate the total dog population and vaccination ***:Twenty-four villages were selected,of which 798 households completed the survey,representing 4375 *** owning households represented 12.9%of the population,for which 175 dogs were owned(25 people per dog).A history of vaccination was reported in 55.6%of owned *** and human population density highly correlated with dog ownership,and when accounted for in multi-level regression models,the human to dog ratio fell to 47:1 and the estimated national canine-rabies vaccination coverage fell to 36.1%.This study estimates there are 729486 owned dogs in Uganda(95%CI:719919-739053).Ten percent of survey respondents provided care to dogs they did not own,however unowned dog populations were not enumerated in this estimate.89.8%of Uganda’s human population was estimated to reside in a community that can support enzootic canine rabies ***:This study is the first to comprehensively evaluate the effect of poverty on dog ownership in *** results indicate that describing a dog population may not be as simple as applying a human:dog ratio,and factors such as poverty are likely to heavily influence dog ownership and vaccination *** modelled estimates should be confirmed through further f

In this paper, we analyze variation in spectral reflectance and color pattern among populations to demonstrate dra-matic divergence between four distinct morphs of the mimic poison frog Ranitomeya imitator. We also analyze genetic diver-gence in d-loop mtdNA sequences between populations. We then use coalescent-based simulations to demonstrate that the high levels of observed phenotypic divergence are not consistent with levels of genetic divergence expected under neutral drift among populations, implying an important role for selection in driving divergence between these populations .
