Locoregionally advanced laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers(LA-LHCs)are traditionally treated with surgery followed by postoperative radiotherapy,which impairs speech and swallowing functions and reduces the quality of life.^(1,2)The use of induction chemotherapy(IC)as a larynxpreserving approach for LA-LHCs has been verified and refined.^(3)However,the short-term tumor response to IC varies,non-responders usually show poor survival and little benefit.

Background:To test clinically relevant factors associated with quantitative artifact-free deep capillary plexus(DCP)metrics in patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).Methods:563 eligible eyes(221 with no diabetic retinopathy[DR],135 with mild DR,130 with moderate DR,and 77 with severe DR)from 334 subjects underwent optical coherence tomography-angiography(OCT-A)with a swept-source OCT(Triton DRI-OCT,Topcon,Inc.,Tokyo,Japan).Strict criteria were applied to exclude from analysis those DCP images with artifacts and of poor quality,including projection artifacts,motion artifacts,blurriness,signal loss,B-scan segmentation error,or low-quality score.A customized MATLAB program was then used to quantify DCP morphology from the artifact-free DCP images by calculating three metrics:foveal avascular zone(FAZ),vessel density(VD),and fractal dimension(FD).Results:166(29.5%)eyes were excluded after quality control,leaving in the analysis 397 eyes(170 with no DR,101 with mild DR,90 with moderate DR,36 with severe DR)from 250 *** the multiple regression models,larger FAZ area was associated with more severe DR(β=0.687;p=0.037),shorter axial length(AL)(β=−0.171;p=0.003),thinner subfoveal choroid thickness(β=−0.122;p=0.031),and lower body mass index(BMI)(β=−0.090;p=0.047).Lower VD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.842;p=0.001),shorter AL(β=0.107;p=0.039),and poorer visual acuity(VA)(β=−0.133;p=0.021).Lower FD was associated with more severe DR(β=−0.891;pchanges in DM patients.

While it is acknowledged that anthropogenic factors contribute to the degradation of mangal communities (i.e.,a community of mangroves is considered a mangal) there is,nevertheless,a paucity of research on the response of mangal communities m coastal environments experiencing transitory morphological states reflecting accretionary and erosional *** paper,therefore,reports on the complex interactions existing between mangal communities and coastline positional shifts associated with episodes of aggradation and *** country of Guyana was chosen because the coast is dominated by communities of Rhizophora,Avicennia Nitida,Laguncularia racemosa and Conocarpus *** distribution and temporal changes in the mangal communities along the coast were examined with a combination of field data (1941-present),topographic map sheets (1:50 000) for 1964 and 1986,aerial photographs at a scale of 1:30 000 and 1:20 000 for 1953,1954,1962,1980 and 1981 and Landsat imagery for 1985,1992,2002 and *** and topographic data on coastline positional changes were analyzed with ArcGIS *** maps were then overlayed with those extracted from the 1985,1992,2002 and 2006 Landsat images with the Idrisi Kilimanjaro *** were obtained with an automatic extraction algorithm which required radiometric correction,contrast stretching,histogram thresholding,and band *** of Bands 2 and 4 and Bands 2 and 5 facilitated the determination of differences in spectral reflectance in order to establish the binary classification of the *** multiplication allowed demarcation of the coastlines which were subsequently vectorized for the calculation of either erosional or accretional or stable coastal *** communities were then extracted from topographic maps,aerial photographs and Landsat *** Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and the Normalized Difference Water Index were synthesized to delineate the mangal communities fro

目的:机器人手术目前已在头颈部多个区域得到了应用,本文探讨香港中文大学头颈外科机器人手术的经验。方法:回顾性分析2015年1月以来在香港中文大学耳鼻咽喉头颈外科开展的所有机器人头颈外科手术病例资料。结果:24例患者采用达芬奇S或达芬奇Xi系统进行了手术,21例患者使用新型柔性机器人达芬奇SP系统行了手术。均无二次手术等严重不良事件。已经发表的达芬奇SP系统手术的7例患者早期结果表明,通过达芬奇SP系统可以到达鼻咽、口咽部、下咽部、喉部和咽后淋巴结完成手术,不需中途改变手术方式,没有发生与使用该系统有关的严重不良事件或不良事件。结论:通过我们在香港中文大学的经验,我们认为采用达芬奇机器人系统进行经口手术或经耳后入路颈部手术是安全有效的。

The aging population is an important issue around the world especially in developed *** med-ical advances have substantially extended life span,the same cannot be said for the duration of health *** are seeing in-creasing numbers of elderly people who are frail and/or have multiple chronic conditions;all of these can affect the quality of life of the elderly population as well as increase the burden on the healthcare *** is mechanistically related to common medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus,ischemic heart disease,cognitive decline,and frailty.A recently accepted concept termed‘Accelerated Biological Aging’can be diagnosed when a person’s biological age—as measured by biomarkers of DNA methylation—is older than their corresponding chronological ***,a conditionally essential amino acid,has received much attention in the past few years.A substantial number of animal studies have provided a strong scientific foundation sug-gesting that this amino acid can improve cellular and metabolic health,including blood glucose control,so much that it has been labelled one of the‘longevity amino acids’.In this review article,we propose the rationale that an adequately powered random-ized-controlled-trial(RCT)is needed to confirm whether taurine can meaningfully improve metabolic and microbiome health,and biological *** trial should incorporate certain elements in order to provide the much-needed evidence to guide doctors,and also the community at large,to determine whether this promising and inexpensive amino acid is useful in improving human metabolic health.
