Objective: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the stability of the maternal pelvis over the course of the third trimester and the puerperium. Study design: Pregnant patients were recruited to undergo comparative magnetic resonance-based pelvimetry and fetal ultrasonography at 37 to 38 weeks of gestation. Most of the patients were recruited from a study of women who planned a trial of labor after a previous cesarean delivery for cephalopelvic disproportion. These results have been reported previously. Patients then underwent magnetic resonance-based pelvimetry within 3 days and at 3 months after delivery. Postdelivery analysis was used to answer the question: Do pelvic dimensions change after delivery? Results: Eighteen patients completed the study. Eleven of the patients underwent cesarean deliveries, of which 4 deliveries were before labor. Seven patients had successful vaginal births after their previous cesarean delivery. Statistical analysis of the 18 patients determined that pelvic measurements did not demonstrate change over the course the study. Conclusion: Serial magnetic resonance-based pelvimetry showed relative stability of pelvic measurements through the course of pregnancy and delivery. If comparative pelvimetry is to be useful as an antepartum predictor of labor success, then it may be possible to obtain reliable pelvimetry in those patients anytime after delivery.

Computational tool-assisted primer design for real-time reverse transcription(RT)PCR(qPCR)analysis largely ignores the sequence similarities between sequences of homologous genes in a plant *** can lead to false confidence in the quality of the designed primers,which sometimes results in skipping the optimization steps for ***,the optimization of qPCR parameters plays an essential role in the efficiency,specificity,and sensitivity of each gene’s ***,we proposed an optimized approach to sequentially optimizing primer sequences,annealing temperatures,primer concentrations,and cDNA concentration range for each reference(and target)*** approach started with a sequence-specific primer design that should be based on the single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)present in all the homologous sequences for each of the reference(and target)genes under *** combining the efficiency calibrated and standard curve methods with the 2−ΔΔCt method,the standard cDNA concentration curve with a logarithmic scale was obtained for each primer pair for each *** a result,an R 2≥0.9999 and the efficiency(E)=100±5% should be achieved for the best primer pair of each gene,which serve as the prerequisite for using the 2^(−ΔΔCt) method for data *** applied our newly developed approach to identify the best reference genes in different tissues and at various inflorescence developmental stages of Tripidium ravennae,an ornamental and biomass grass,and validated their utility under varying abiotic stress *** also applied this approach to test the expression stability of six reference genes in soybean under biotic stress treatment with Xanthomonas axonopodis ***(Xag).Thus,these case studies demonstrated the effectiveness of our optimized protocol for qPCR analysis.

The smart grid is the next generation of power and distribution systems. The integration of advanced network, communications, and computing techniques allows for the enhancement of efficiency and reliability. The smart grid interconnects the flow of information via the power line, intelligent metering, renewable and distributed energy systems, and a monitoring and controlling infrastructure. For all the advantages that these components come with, they remain at risk to a spectrum of physical and digital attacks. This paper will focus on digital vulnerabilities within the smart grid and how they may be exploited to form full fledged attacks on the system. A number of countermeasures and solutions from the literature will also be reported, to give an overview of the options for dealing with such problems. This paper serves as a triggering point for future research into smart grid cyber security.

In the present review, we describe the most importantaspects of the X-linked ichthyosis(XLI) and make a compilation of the some historic details of the disease. The aim of the present study is an update of the XLI. Historical, clinical, epidemiological, and molecular aspects are described through the text. Recessive XLI is a relatively common genodermatosis affecting different ethnic groups. With a high spectrum of the clinical manifestations due to environmental factors, the disease has a genetic heterogeneity that goes from a point mutation to a large deletion involving several genes to produce a contiguous gene syndrome. Most XLI patients harbor complete STS gene deletion and flanked sequences; seven intragenic deletions and 14 point mutations with a complete loss of the steroid sulfatase activity have been reported worldwide. In this study, we review current knowledge about the disease.

Two Lecanicillium lecanii isolates, ATCC26854 and V3, were evaluated for spore production in liquid media. Both isolates have interesting known properties for the production of high concentrations of chitinases (ATCC26854), and an outstanding pathogenic activity against the green cabbage aphid, Brevicorine brassiacae (L.). The isolates were grown on thirteen different liquid media, which had been used to produce other entomopathogenic Hyphomycetes. Experiments were carried out at 27 ± 1 °C with a 12:12 photoperiod using shake flasks. The production of spores was quantified during a seven days period, and the effects of the media were evaluated by determining spore concentration and morphology. Submerged conidia yields were higher with ATCC26854 than with V3 in all thirteen media, while higher concentrations (5.3 × 109, 4.6 × 109 and 3.4 × 109 conidia/mL) were found with ATCC26854 isolate in the Camaron, Minerales and Jenkins-Prior medium, respectively; lower yields (2.3 × 108, 2.2 × 108 and 2.3 × 108 conidia/mL) were found with the V3 isolate in Catroux, TKI and Camaron media, respectively. Spore production curves were adjusted to different sigmoid models. The process was better explained by the Richards model (r2 = 0.99). Concerning conidia morphology, submerged conidia seemed to look like aerial conidia, but they were different in size (ATCC26854 2.73-6.99 μm and V3 5.28-14.29 μm); however, the dimensions fall within the ranges reported for L. lecanii. The analysis of shake flask cultures with the Richards model allowed selecting two low-cost liquid medium, Camarón and Jenkins-Prior, for scaling up conidia production for use in aphid biological control programs.

PCA (principal component analysis), CCA (canonical correlation analysis) and PLSR (partial least squares regression) are powerful water quality modeling methods that provide better results than other classical ones such as multiple lineal regression. In this work they were used to model four water quality parameters at the Amadorio Reservoir (Alicante, Spain), namely: water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH and conductivity. The main purpose of this study was to predict the future quality of the water and, thus improve its management. Raw data correspond to daily values of mean wind speed, mean wind direction, maximum wind speed, mean, minimum and maximum air temperature, number of hours below 7 oC, relative humidity, global solar radiation, total precipitation, evapotranspiration, exploitation volume, inflow, outflow, filtration, depth and Julian day. Two years were considered (2004-2005) to get the calibration (186 days, 4,401 registrations) and validation (185 days, 4,573 registrations) datasets. Models were developed using either all the variables or a reduced subset; furthermore, PLSR yielded the best results.

Mesenteric fibromatosis (MF) is a rare, benign tumor commonly associated with Gardner’s syndrome. The signs and symptoms in patients with MF are insidious. Patients may present with abdominal pain or discomfort when the tumors reach large sizes, which is typical at the time of diagnosis. Differentiating MF from other neoplasms such as gastrointestinal stromal tumorsmay present a diagnostic dilemma, especially in patients without any history of familial adenomatous polyposis. In the present report, we discuss a young girl who presented with MF. A pertinent review of the literature is also presented. This case is peculiar in that MF presented at a young age in a patient without history of familial adenomatous polyposis and occurred in the omentum with local invasion to the stomach.

The aim of this review is to provide a general overview of the relationship between occupational stress and gastrointestinal alterations. The International Labour Organization suggests occupational health includes psychological aspects to achieve mental well-being. However, the definition of health risks for an occupation includes biological, chemical, physical and ergonomic factors but does not address psychological stress or other affective disorders. Nevertheless, multiple investigations have studied occupational stress and its physiological consequences, focusing on specific risk groups and occupations considered stressful. Among the physiological effects of stress, gastrointestinal tract(GIT) alterations are highly prevalent. The relationship between occupational stress and GIT diseases is evident in everyday clinical practice; however, the usual strategy is to attack the effects but not the root of the problem. That is, in clinics, occupational stress is recognized as a source of GIT problems, but employers do not ascribe it enough importance as a risk factor, in general, and for gastrointestinal health, in particular. The identification, stratification, measurement and evaluation of stress and its associated corrective strategies, particularly for occupational stress, are important topics to address in the near future to establish the basis for considering stress as an important risk factor in occupational health.
