Antibiotics are widely used in fire blight management programs,yet there are no studies that demonstrate the evaluation of their efficacy in ***,the present study was conducted to investigate the effects of the active ingredients in five commercial products(Kasumin■2L,Agrygent Plus■,Agricultural Terramycin■,Agrimicin100,and Actigard■)on fire blight suppression,and fruit yield and quality of apple(Malus domestica Borkh.)*** *** experiment was conducted in a commercial orchard using a completely randomized block design,with six treatments:(1)Oxytetracycline[Ox],110 mg L^(−1);(2)Kasugamycin[Kas],4.7 mL L^(−1);(3)Oxytetracycline+Gentamicin[Ox+Gen],48 mg L^(−1)+12 mg L^(−1);(4)Streptomycin+Oxytetracycline[Str+Ox],90 mg L^(−1)+9 mg L^(−1);(5)Acibenzolar-S-methyl[ASM],70 mg L^(−1);and(6)Control,only water,with four replications,and three 11-year-old trees as an experimental *** of infection including flowers,shoots and fruits,yield and fruit quality were *** treatments suppressed infection in flowers,shoots,and *** provided the highest levels of reduction of flower and shoot infection,while Kas had the least effect on the reduction of infection in these *** Ox+Gen treatment had the greatest suppression of fruit infection,and the best results on fruit yield and quality,followed by Ox and *** is the first study conducted to evaluate the efficacy of the active ingredients of five commercial products used for the management of fire blight in apple trees in Mexico.

Single atom Cu-N-C catalysts for the electro-reduction of CO_(2) to CO assessed by rotating ring-disc electrode

The electrochemical CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR) to controllable chemicals is considered as a promising pathway to store intermittent renewable energy. Herein, a set of catalysts based on copper-nitrogendoped carbon xerogel(Cu-N-C) are successfully developed varying the copper amount and the nature of the copper precursor, for the efficient CO_(2)RR. The electrocatalytic performance of Cu-N-C materials is assessed by a rotating ring-disc electrode(RRDE), technique still rarely explored for CO_(2)RR. For comparison, products are also characterized by online gas chromatography in a H-cell. The as-synthesized Cu-NC catalysts are found to be active and highly CO selective at low overpotentials(from -0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 M KHCO_(3), while H_(2) from the competitive water reduction appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optimum copper acetate-derived catalyst containing Cu-N_(4) moieties exhibits a CO_(2)-to-CO turnover frequency of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/CO ratio of 1.8. These results demonstrate that RRDE configuration can be used as a feasible approach for identifying electrolysis products from CO_(2)RR.

An Ensemble Kalman Filter(EnKF)-based assimilation algorithm was implemented to estimate root-zone soil moisture(RZSM)using a Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere Transfer(SVAT)model during a complete growing season of corn in Central *** and field soil moisture(SM)observations and NASA SMAP SM retrievals were used to understand the effect of vertically spatial updates and uncertainties in meteorological forcings on RZSM *** of RZSM every 3 days using SM observations at 4 depths lowered the averaged standard deviation(ASD)and the root mean square error(RMSE)by 60%and 50%,respectively,compared to the open-loop *** assimilation of synthetic SM at the top 0-5 cm obtained RZSM closer to observations compared to THEXMEX-18 SM measurements and SMAP SM *** between EnKF estimates and SM observations and SMAP SM retrievals are mainly due to misrepresentation of vegetation *** results improved SM estimates up to 10-cm depth using SMAP SM retrievals;however,additional studies are needed to improve SM at deeper *** implemented methodology can estimate SM at the top 10 cm of the soil every 3 days to mitigate the impact of the climate change on agricultural production over rainfed areas,particularly in developing countries.

SARS-CoV-2 is the causal agent of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a single-stranded RNA beta-coronavirus that is comprised of a 5′ and 3′-untranslated region (UTR) in its non-coding RNA (ncRNA) region. The P-element-induced wimpy testis (PIWI)-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are ncRNA sequences that bind to transposons and interfere with the translation of new genes. Here, we search for short sequences in the non-coding regions, corresponding to 28 nucleotides (nt). These start from a uracil and have a conserved region of at least 10 nt of homology with the previously reported piRNAs. The aim of this work was to identify piRNA-like sequences in the 3′-UTR of SARS-CoV-2 from the reported Wuhan Patient's genome sequence (GenBank: MN908947.3).

Plant-based antimicrobial agents are readily available, cost-effective, and exhibit low toxicity, making them promising alternatives in combatting microbial infections. Among these plants, garlic (Allium sativum) stands out for its traditional medicinal use in effectively combating various microorganisms. In the poultry industry, preventing avian virus and bacterial infections is paramount for chicken husbandry. However, using conventional drugs poses potential risks to human health. Garlic, a widely used Asian plant in traditional medicine for various pathologies, has shown potential as an herbal prophylactic remedy against viral and bacterial infections. Recently, researchers explored garlic and its derivatives as a scientific strategy in veterinary practices for diverse purposes, such as improving poultry production characteristics and acting as antibiotic growth promoters. This comprehensive review delves into garlic and its derivatives as preventive and corrective treatments for viral diseases in laying hens and broilers. The paper highlights their potential effectiveness and safety as a natural means to enhance poultry health and welfare while mitigating the risks associated with conventional drug usage in the food industry.

Piwi-interacting RNAs(piRNAs of 26-32 nt in length)regulate gene expression,epigenetics,and transcriptional and post-transcriptional processes.1 In humans,piRNAs are expressed in germline and somatic tissues,and generally have a uracil at the 5'-end(position+1),an adenine at the+10 position,and are 2'-0 methylated at the 3'-end.2 Onice piRNAs form the RNA-induced silencing complex(RISC)with PIWl proteins,they serve as guides to find their complementary sequences of the target mRNA,thus initiating their *** Wuhan patient's genome is approximately 265 nucleotides(nts)in its 3'-UTR;piRNAs-like sequences have been reported in this region.3 Our objective was to search,through bioinformatics,for mRNA sequences that were homologous to the reverse complementary of the previously reported piRNA-like sequences from the 3'-UTR of SARS-Cov-2,3 and identify the possible interaction between them.

Recent progress on bimetallic NiCo and CoFe based electrocatalysts for alkaline oxygen evolution reaction: A review

The deployment of hydrogen as an energy carrier is found to be a vital alternative fuel for the future. It is expected that water electrolysis, powered by renewable energy sources, be able to scale-up hydrogen production. However, the reaction kinetic of oxygen evolution reaction(OER) is a sluggish process, which predominantly limits the efficiency of water electrolysis. This review recapitulates the recent progress and efforts made in the design and development of two selected earth-abundant bimetallic electrocatalysts(Ni Co and Co Fe) for alkaline OER. Each bimetal electrocatalyst is thoroughly outlined and discussed in five sub-sections, including bimetal(oxy) hydroxides, Layered double hydroxides(LDHs) structures,oxides, composites, alloy and nanostructured electrocatalysts, and assembled with ***, a brief introduction to an in situ/operando characterization techniques and advantages for monitoring the structure of the electrocatalysts is provided. Finally, a summary outlining the challenges and conceivable approaches to advance OER performance is highlighted and discussed.

Soil-vegetation relationships in Mediterranean forests after fire

Background:Wildfires are one of the major environmental concerns in Mediterranean ***,many studies have addressed wildfire impacts on soil and vegetation in Mediterranean forests,but the linkages between these ecosystem compartments after fire are not well *** aim of this work is to analyze soil-vegetation relationships in Mediterranean burned forests as well as the consistency of these relationships among forests with different environmental conditions,at different times after fire,and among vegetation with different functional ***:Our results indicate that study site conditions play an important role in mediating soil-vegetation ***,we found that the nature of soil-vegetation relationships may vary over time as fire effects are less dominant in both ecosystem *** this,we detected several common soil-vegetation relationships among study sites and times after *** instance,our results revealed that available P content and stoichiometry(C:P and N:P)were closely linked to vegetation growth,and particularly to the growth of *** found that enzymatic activities and microbial biomass were inversely related to vegetation growth rates,whereas the specific activities of soil enzymes were higher in the areas with more vegetation height and ***,our results suggest that resprouters may influence soil properties more than seeders,the growth of seeders being more dependent on soil ***:We provide pioneer insights into how vegetation is influenced by soil,and vice-versa,in Mediterranean burned *** results reflect variability in soil-vegetation relationships among study sites and time after fire,but consistent patterns between soil properties and vegetation were also *** research is highly relevant to advance in forest science and could be useful to achieve efficient post-fire management.

Effects of metoclopramide on gastric motility measured by short-term bio-impedance

AIM:To analyze the accuracy of short-term bio-impedance as a means of measuring gastric ***: We evaluated differences in the short-term electrical bio-impedance signal from the gastric region in the following conditions: (1) fasting state, (2) after the administration of metoclopramide (a drug that induces an increase in gastric motility) and (3) after food ingestion in 23 healthy volunteers. We record-ed the real component of the electrical impedance signal from the gastric region for 1000 s. We performed a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) on this data and then compared the signal among the fasting, medicated, and postprandial conditions using the median of the area under the curve, the relative area under the curve and the main peak ***: The median of the area under the curve of the frequency range in the region between 2-8 cycles per minute (cpm) decreased from 4.7 cpm in the fasting condition to 4.0 cpm in the medicated state (t=3.32, P=0.004). This concurred with the decrease seen in the relative area under the FFT curve in the region from 4 to 8 cpm from 38.3% to 26.6% (t=2.81, P=0.012) and the increase in area in the region from 2 to 4 cpm from 22.4% to 27.7%, respectively (t=-2.5, P=0.022). Finally the main peak position also decreased in the region from 2 to 8 cpm. Main peak activity in the fasting state was 4.72 cpm and declined to 3.45 cpm in the medicated state (t=2.47, P=0.025). There was a decrease from the fasting state to the postprandial state at 3.02 cpm (t=4.0, P=0.0013). CONCLUSION: Short-term electrical bio-impedance can assess gastric motility changes in individuals experiencing gastric stress by analyzing the area medians and relative areas under the FFT curve.

Photoelectrochemical activity of ZnO:Ag/rGO photo-anodes synthesized by two-steps sol-gel method

This work investigated the influence of silver plasmon and reduced graphene oxide(r GO)on the photoelectrochemical performance(PEC)of Zn O thin films synthesized by the sol-gel *** physicochemical properties of the obtained photo-anodes were systematically studied by using several characterization *** x-ray diffraction analysis showed that all samples presented hexagonal wurtzite structure with a polycrystalline *** and energy dispersive x-ray(EDX)studies confirmed the existence of both Ag and r GO in Zn O:Ag/r GO thin *** estimated grain size obtained from scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis decreased with Ag doping,then increased to a maximum value after r GO *** UV-vis transmission spectra of the as-prepared Zn O:Ag and Zn O:Ag/r GO thin films have shown a reduction in the visible range with a redshift at the absorption *** bandgaps were estimated to be around 3.17 e V,2.7 e V,and 2.52 e V for Zn O,Zn O:Ag,and Zn O:Ag/r GO,***,the electrical measurements revealed that the charge exchange processes were enhanced at the Zn O:Ag/r GO/electrolyte interface,accompanied by an increase in the(PEC)performance compared to Zn O and Zn O:Ag ***,the photocurrent density of Zn O:Ag/r GO(0.2 m A·cm^(-2)) was around 4 and 2.22 times higher than photo-anodes based on undoped Zn O(0.05 m A·cm^(-2)) and Zn O:Ag(0.09 m A·cm^(-2)),***,from the flat band potential and donor density,deduced from the Mott-Schottky,it was clear that all the samples were n-type semiconductors with the highest carrier density for the Zn O:Ag/r GO photo-anode.
