Environm.ntal conditions can change m.rkedly over geographical distances along elevation gradients,m.king them.natural laboratories to study the processes that structure com.unities.This work aim.d to assess the influences of elevation on Tropical m.ntane Cloud Forest plant com.unities in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest,a historically neglected ecoregion.We evaluated the phylogenetic structure,forest structure(tree basal area and tree density)and species richness along an elevation gradient,as well as the evolutionary fingerprints of elevation-success on phylogenetic lineages from.the tree com.unities.To do so,we assessed nine com.unities along an elevation gradient from.1210 to 2310 m.a.***.l.without large elevation gaps.The relationships between elevation and phylogenetic structure,forest structure and species richness were investigated through Linear m.dels.The occurrence of evolutionary fingerprint on phylogenetic lineages was investigated by quantifying the extent of phylogenetic signal of elevation-success using a genus-level m.lecular phylogeny.Our results showed decreased species richness at higher elevations and independence between forest structure,phylogenetic structure and elevation.We also verified that there is a phylogenetic signal associated with elevation-success by lineages.We concluded that the elevation is associated with species richness and the occurrence of phylogenetic lineages in the tree com.unities evaluated in m.ntiqueira Range.On the other hand,elevation is not associated with forest structure or phylogenetic structure.Furtherm.re,closely related taxa tend to have their higher ecological success in sim.lar elevations.Finally,we highlight the fragility of the tropical m.ntane cloud forests in the m.ntiqueira Range in face of environm.ntal changes(i.***.global warm.ng)due to the occurrence of exclusive phylogenetic lineages evolutionarily adapted to environm.ntal conditions(i.***.m.nim.m.tem.erature)associated with each elevation range.

BACKGROUND Prevalence of hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC)is increasing,especially in patients with m.tabolic dysfunctionassociated steatotic liver disease(m.SLD).AIm.To investigate rifaxim.n(RIF)effects on epigenetic/autophagy m.rkers in anim.ls.m.THODS Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were random.y assigned(n=8,each)and treated from.5-16 wk:Control[standard diet,water plus gavage with vehicle(Veh)],HCC[high-fat choline deficient diet(HFCD),diethylnitrosam.ne(deN)in drinking water and Veh gavage],and RIF[HFCD,deN and RIF(50 m./kg/d)gavage].Gene expression of epigenetic/autophagy m.rkers and circulating m.RNAs were obtained.RESULTS All HCC and RIF anim.ls developed m.tabolic-dysfunction associated steatohepatitis fibrosis,and cirrhosis,but three RIF-group did not develop HCC.Com.aring anim.ls who developed HCC with those who did not,m.R-122,m.R-34a,tubulin alpha-1c(Tuba-1c),m.talloproteinases-2(m.p2),and m.talloproteinases-9(m.p9)were significantly higher in the HCC-group.The opposite occurred with Becn1,coactivator associated arginine m.thyltransferase-1(Carm.),enhancer of zeste hom.log-2(Ezh2),autophagy-related factor LC3A/B(m.p1 Lc3b),and p62/sequestosom.-1(p62/SQSTm.)-protein.Com.aring with controls,m.p1 Lc3b,Becn1 and Ezh2 were lower in HCC and RIF-groups(Pm. was lower in HCC com.ared to RIF(Pm.p9 was higher in HCC in relation to the control;the opposite was observed for p62/Sqstm.(Pm. protein was lower in the RIF-group com.ared to the control(P=0.024).There was no difference am.ng groups for Tuba-1c,Aldolase-B,alpha-fetoprotein,and m.p2(P>0.05).m.R-122 was higher in HCC,and m.R-34a in RIF com.ared to controls(Pm.R-26b was lower in HCC com.ared to RIF,and the inverse was observed for m.R-224(Pm.ng groups regarding m.R-33a,m.R-143,m.R-155,m.R-375 and m.R-21(P>0.05).CONCLUSION RIF m.ght have a possible beneficial effect on preventing/delaying liver carcinogenesis through epigenetic m.dulation in a rat m.del of m.SLD

Introduction: Treatm.nts for cardiovascular diseases have increasingly evolved with the tendency to offer m.nim.lly invasive or transcatheter procedures instead of conventional sternotom. surgery. In this context, we highlight m.nim.lly invasive m.tral valve surgery (m.m.S), which has been shown to be an increasingly solid option with som. superior results when com.ared to the conventional technique: better pain control, shorter hospital stays, shorter recovery tim., shorter readm.ssion rate in the first postoperative year, better aesthetic results, and lower overall cost. Aim. This study aim. to evaluate the stages of m.m.S, by prim.ry m.tral valve consultation, in our service and com.are these results with data from.the literature. m.thods: All electronic m.dical records of patients who underwent m.m.S for prim.ry m.tral valve injury in the Encore Hospital from.January 2020 to February 2023 were analyzed. Tabulation and statistical analysis were perform.d using the m.crosoft Excel® program. Quantitative variables were presented as m.ans, standard deviations. Results: 46 patients were enrolled in our study (Age: 59.1 ± 12.4 years old;60.8% Fem.le, Bm.: 26 ± 4.4 Kg/m.sup>2, Low risk STS score: 82.6%). The observed 30-day m.rtality was 2.1%, plastic rate of 23.9%, blood transfusion rate of 41.3%, length of stay in an intensive care bed (ICB) of 3.3 ± 3.3 days and hospital stay of 6.4 ± 5.1 days. Conclusions: We noticed that the m.m.S results carried out in our service agree with data from.national and international literature with approxim.tely 1.3 days m.re hospitalization in ICB.

The present study aim. to establish a literature review on intervention program. for executive functions(EFs)through the use of fundam.ntal m.tor skills,from.a neuropsychopedagogical perspective in subjects with developm.ntal Coordination Disorder(DCD).An exploratory study was carried out through an integrative literature review.The research was carried out in the Scientific databases Electronic Library Online(SciELO),Latin Am.rican and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences(LILACS),Virtual Health Library-Psychology Brazil(BVSPSI),Electronic Journals of Psychology(PePSIC),in the periodicals available in the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations(BDTD)and on the website of the Coordination for the Im.rovem.nt of Higher Education Personnel(CAPES).The covering publications took place from.2018 to 2023,14 articles were selected for analysis.This literature review m.de it possible to create strategies for stim.lating EF and Visuom.tor Functions so that educators and other professionals can better deal with students with DCD.It was perceived the need to carry out and develop m.re em.irical research regarding the intervention of EFs and Visuom.tor Functions by educators and professionals,with a greater sam.ling am.litude,to increase the num.er of studies that enable interventions both in children and in teenagers with DCD.

Background:Hem.dialysis(HD)per se is a risk factor for throm.osis.Considering the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR)exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrom.otic agent D-dim.r is required for the safety and feasibility of this training m.del.The aim.of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dim.r levels and to determ.ne the acute effect of resistance exercise(RE)with BFR on this m.lecule.m.thods:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glom.rular filtration rate ofm./m.n/1.73 m.(2)).The RE+BFR session consisted of 50%arterial occlusion pressure during 50 m.n sessions of HD(intradialytic exercise).RE repetitions included concentric and eccentric lifting phases(each lasting 2 s)and were supervised by a strength and conditioning specialist.Results:Several variables were associated with elevated levels of D-dim.r,including higher blood glucose,citrate use,recent cardiovascular events,recent intercurrents,higher inflam.atory status,catheter as vascular access,older patients(>70 years old),and HD vintage.Furtherm.re,RE+BFR significantly increases D-dim.r after 4 h.Patients with borderline baseline D-dim.r levels(400-490 ng/m.)displayed increased risk of elevating D-dim.r over the norm.l range(-500 ng/m.).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrom.otic state and m.y assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo RE+BFR.D-dim.r and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary m.asure to m.xim.ze safety during RE+BFR.

The incidence of m.cobacterium.avium.com.lex pulm.nary disease (m.CPD) has been globally increasing. The present study aim. to provide a com.rehensive analysis of clinical characteristics and treatm.nt response am.ng patients in the Am.zon region of Brazil and conduct a retrospective cohort study at a prom.nent referral hospital in the State of Par, Brazil, from.2012 to 2020. The m. avium.group represented 58.9% of cases, followed by m. intracellulare (35.7%), m. colom.iense (3.6%), and m. chim.era (1.8%). The m.jority of patients (73.2%) were fem.le and with an average age of 63 years. Prim.ry clinical m.nifestations included persistent cough and sputum.production. The Charlson com.rbidity index (CCI) averaged 2.47, with 36.3% of patients having a CCI score equal to higher than 3. Notably, over 70% of patients had received treatm.nt for pulm.nary tuberculosis before initiating treatm.nt for m.C infection. The fibrocavitary radiologic form.was the m.st prevalent (55.4%), frequently exhibiting a bilateral distribution (53.6%). Antim.crobial susceptibility revealed a significant prevalence of m.C resistance to drugs in the therapeutic regim.n. despite this, m.st of the patients experienced clinical im.rovem.nt (50%). In conclusion, this study highlights a higher prevalence of m.C infections am.ng m.ddle-aged wom.n, with a history of pulm.nary tuberculosis treatm.nt and presenting the fibrocavitary radiological form.was predom.nant.

During social interactions,the behavior of an individual often depends on the sex of its social partner.m.ny anim.l societies have m.les and fem.les that play very different behavioral roles,although they coexist and interact non-sexually.At specific phases of the colony cycle,social wasp fem.les and m.les are contem.oraries within a nest,they often interact,although m.ting occurs m.stly off the nest,therefore providing an opportunity to test sex discrim.nation in contexts other than classical sexual ones.We perform.d a lure presentation experim.nt to test if m.schocyttarus m.tathoracicus discrim.nate between conspecifics of the 2 sexes during on-nest social interactions.Fem.le wasps discrim.nated conspecific sex during experim.ntally sim.lated nest intrusions.Visual and chem.cal cues m.y account for this sex discrim.nation.despite sex discrim.nation(evidenced by differential inspective behavior from.the nest fem.les toward the fem.le and the m.le lures),fem.le wasps were as aggressive toward lures of both sexes.In the fem.le-dom.nated hym.nopteran societies,m.les are often subordinate and not aggressive on nest,resulting in fem.les directing less aggression to them.com.ared to other fem.les.Instead,m.m.tathoracicus m.les and fem.les are both aggressive toward nestm.tes,so they m.ght be perceived as sim.lar threat during on-nest social interactions.

Investm.nt in silvicultural techniques is noticeably lacking,especially in breeding program. for non-conventional wood species.Studying genotype×environm.nt interaction(G×E)is essential to the developm.nt of breeding program..Thus,this study aim.d to estim.te genetic diversity of and the effects of G×E interaction on two progeny tests of Cordia trichotom.,including the estim.tion of genetic gain and genetic diversity after selection.For the experim.nt,30 progenies of C.trichotom. were tested at two sites with differing soil textures.Diam.ter at breast height(1.30 m.above soil surface,dbh-cm.,total height,diam.ter at 30 cm.from.the soil,first branch height,and survival were all m.nitored for four years.Statistical deviance,best linear unbiased estim.tor,and harm.nic m.an of relative perform.nce of genetic values(m.PRVG)were all calculated to predict breeding values,estim.te genetic param.ters,and analyze deviance.All quantified traits varied significantly am.ng progenies by soil type,with greatest variation recorded for genetic variability.Heritability of the progenies led to predictions of genetic gain,ranging from.7.73 to 15.45%,for dbh at four years of age.The calculated decrease in genetic diversity after selection showed that this param.ter should be m.nitored in subsequent breeding cycles.G×E was low for all tests.The best-perform.ng progenies proved m.st stable and best adapted to the different environm.ntal conditions tested.

Selective logging is well-recognized as an effective practice in sustainable forest m.nagem.nt.However,the ecological efficiency or resilience of the residual stand is often in doubt.Recovery tim. depends on operational variables,diversity,and forest structure.Selective logging is excellent but is open to changes.This m.y be resolved by m.them.tical program.ing and this study integrates the econom.c-ecological aspects in m.lti-objective function by applying two evolutionary algorithm..The function m.xim.zes rem.ining stand diversity,m.rchantable logs,and the inverse of distance between trees for harvesting and log landings points.The Brazilian rainforest database(566 trees)was used to sim.late our 216-ha m.del.The log landing design has a m.xim.m.volum. lim.t of 500 m..The nondom.nated sorting genetic algorithm.was applied to solve the m.in optim.zation problem.In parallel,a sub-problem.p-facility allocation)was solved for landing allocation by a genetic algorithm.Pareto frontier analysis was applied to distinguish the gradientsα-econom.c,β-ecological,andγ-equilibrium.As expected,the solutions have high diam.ter changes in the residual stand(average rem.val of approxim.tely 16 m.(3) ha^(-1)).All solutions showed a grouping of trees selected for harvesting,although there was no form.tion of large clearings(percentage of canopy rem.valm.osition by preferentially selecting species with greater frequency in the initial stand for harvesting.This im.lies a lower im.act on the dem.graphic rates of the rem.ining stand.The m.thodology should support projects of reduced im.act logging by using spatial-diversity inform.tion to guide better practices in tropical forests.
