New strategies for spatially controlled growth of human neurons may provide viable solutions to treat and recover peripheral or spinal cord *** topography cues are known to promote attachment and direct proliferation of many cell types,guided outgrowth of human neurites has been found difficult to achieve so ***,three-dimensional(3D)micropatterned carbon nanotube(CNt)templates are used to effectively direct human neurite stem cell *** exploiting the mechanical flexibility,electrically conductivity and texture of the 3D CNt micropillars,a perfect environment is created to achieve specific guidance of human neurites,which may lead to enhanced therapeutic effects within the injured spinal cord or peripheral *** is found that the 3D CNt micropillars grant excellent anchoring for adjacent neurites to form seamless neuronal networks that can be grown to any arbitrary shape and *** from clear practical relevance in regenerative medicine,these results using the CNt based templates on Si chips also can pave the road for new types of microelectrode arrays to study cell network electrophysiology.

Microtubules play a central role in cytoskeletal changes during neuronal development and *** dynamics is essential to polarity and shape transitions underlying neural cell division,differentiation,motility,and *** superfamily protein 2A is a member of human kinesin 13 gene family of proteins that depolymerize and destabilize *** dividing cells,kinesin superfamily protein 2A is involved in mitotic progression,spindle assembly,and chromosome *** postmitotic neurons,it is required for axon/dendrite specification and extension,neuronal migration,connectivity,and *** with kinesin superfamily protein 2A mutations suffer from a variety of malformations of cortical development,epilepsy,autism spectrum disorder,and *** this review,we discuss how kinesin superfamily protein 2A regulates neuronal development and function,and how its deregulation causes neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders.

tribological performance of iron- and nickel-base self-lubricating claddings containing metal sulfides at high temperature

Iron-based coatings with the incorporation of solid lubricants have been prepared by means of laser cladding,in an effort to control friction and decrease tool wear at high temperatures during metal forming *** choice of a Fe-based powder has been considered advantageous,as it can lead to decreased costs compared to nickel-based claddings previously studied by the authors,in addition to having a lower environmental *** particular,the incorporation of transition metal dichalcogenides such as MoS_(2) as precursors leads to the encapsulation of silver in Fe-based self-lubricating claddings,resulting in a uniform distribution of the soft metal across the thickness of the *** tribological evaluation of the claddings at high temperatures shows that the addition of lubricious compounds leads to lower friction at room temperature and significantly decreased wear up to 600℃ compared to the unmodified iron-based reference alloy,although higher than similar self-lubricating Ni-based *** order to cast light into these observed differences,the corresponding microstructures,phase composition,and self-lubricating mechanisms have been studied and compared for Fe-and Ni-based claddings having both of them the addition of silver and MoS_(2).the results suggest a key role of the formation of protective tribolayers on the counter body during high temperature sliding *** simulation of the phase evolution during solidification reveals that the formation of different chromium-and nickel-based metal sulfides in Fe-and Ni-claddings during laser cladding by the decomposition of MoS_(2) plays a key role in determining their tribological behaviour at high temperatures.

National Lists of Scholarly Publication Channels: An Overview and Recommendations for their Construction and Maintenance

Purpose: this paper presents an overview of different kinds of lists of scholarly publication channels and of experiences related to the construction and maintenance of national lists supporting performance-based research funding systems. It also contributes with a set of recommendations for the construction and maintenance of national lists of journals and book ***/methodology/approach: the study is based on analysis of previously published studies, policy papers, and reported experiences related to the construction and use of lists of scholarly publication channels. Findings: Several countries have systems for research funding and/or evaluation, that involve the use of national lists of scholarly publication channels(mainly journals and publishers). typically, such lists are selective(do not include all scholarly or non-scholarly channels) and differentiated(distinguish between channels of different levels and quality). At the same time, most lists are embedded in a system that encompasses multiple or all disciplines. this raises the question how such lists can be organized and maintained to ensure that all relevant disciplines and all types of research are adequately represented. Research limitation: the conclusions and recommendations of the study are based on the authors' interpretation of a complex and sometimes controversial process with many different stakeholders *** implications: the recommendations and the related background information provided in this paper enable mutual learning that may feed into improvements in the construction and maintenance of national and other lists of scholarly publication channels in any geographical context. this may foster a development of responsible evaluation ***/value: this paper presents the first general overview and typology of different kinds of publication channel lists, provides insights on expert-based versus metrics-based evaluation, and formulates a set of recommend

Ischemic stroke represents a major, worldwide health burden with increasing incidence. Patients affected by ischemic strokes currently have few clinically approved treatment options available. Most currently approved treatments for ischemic stroke have narrow therapeutic windows, severely limiting the number of patients able to be treated. Mesenchymal stem cells represent a promising novel treatment for ischemic stroke. Numerous studies have demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells functionally improve outcomes in rodent models of ischemic stroke. Recent studies have also shown that exosomes secreted by mesenchymal stem cells mediate much of this effect. In the present review, we summarize the current literature on the use of mesenchymal stem cells to treat ischemic stroke. Further studies investigating the mechanisms underlying mesenchymal stem cells tissue healing effects are warranted and would be of benefit to the field.
