Radial Pulse and Electrocardiography Modulation by Mild Thermal Stresses Applied to Feet: An Exploratory Study with Randomized, Crossover Design

Objective:To investigate the changes in radial pulse induced by thermal stresses(TSs).Methods:Sixty subjects were *** an open-label,2x2 crossover randomization design,both feet of each subject were immersed in 15%:water for cold stress(CS)and in 40 X:water for heat stress(HS)for 5 min *** pulse,respiration and electrocardiogram(ECG)signals were recorded before,during and immediately after the ***:The an alysis of heart rate variability revealed that CS in creased the low-freque ncy(LF)and high-frequency(HF)components(P<0.05)and that HS reduced the LF and HF components(P<0.01).Both TSs reduced the normalized LF,increased the normalized HF,and reduced the LF/HF *** differences in the ECG signals were more dominant during the TS sessions,but those in the radial pulse signals became more domi nant immediately after the TS sessi *** decreased the pulse depth(P<0.01)and in creased the radial augme ntation in dex(P<0.1),and HS in creased the pulse pressure(P<0.1)and sube ndocardial viability ratio(P<0.01).There were no significant differences in pulse rate during the three time sequences of each *** respiration rate was increased(P<0.1),and the pulse rate per respiration(P/R ratio)was significantly decreased(P<0.05)with *** HF region(10-30 Hz)of the pulse spectral density was suppressed during both ***:CS induced vasoconstriction and sympathetic reactions,and HS induced vasodilation and parasympathetic reacti *** on defi nitions used in pulse diag no sis,we made the novel discoveries that the pulse became slower(decreased P/R ratio),more floating and tenser under CS and that the HF region of the spectral power decreased significantly under both TSs.

Enhancement of Performance by Blade Optimization in Two-Stage Ring Blower

Comparison of intra peritoneal anti-adhesive polysaccha rides derived from Phellinus mushrooms in a rat peritonitis model

AIM: To assess the adhesion- and abscess-reducing capacities of various concentrations of polysaccharides derived from fungus, Phellinus gilvus (PG) or Phellinus linteus (PL) in a rat peritonitis ***: In 96 SD rats, experimental peritonitis was induced using the cecal ligation and puncture model (CLP).Rats were randomly assigned to 8 groups; Ringer's lactate solution (RL group), hyaluronic acid (HA group), 0.025%,0.25%, and 0.5% polysaccharides from PG (PG0.025, 0.25,and 0.5 groups), and PL (PL0.025, 0.25, and 0.5 groups).Adhesions and abscesses were noted at 7 d after ***-PCR assay was performed to assess the cecal ***: Adhesion formation was significantly reduced in PG0.25, 0.5, PL0.25, 0.5, and HA groups (2.5±0.7,2.4±0.7, 3.8±1.0, 3.6±0.8, and 2.7±1.1, P＜0.05). The incidence of abscesses was significantly reduced in all treated groups compared to RL group (58%, P＜0.05). The urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA) gene expression was greatly up-regulated by increasing the concentration of polysaccharides. The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α mRNA were highly expressed in PG0.25, 0.5, PL0.25, and ***: We concluded that 0.5% polysaccharide derived from PG and PL was the optimal concentration in preventing adhesion and abscess formation and may act by modulating activity of uPA and TNF-α in a rat peritonitis model.

Comparison of RECIST version 1.0 and 1.1 in assessment of tumor response by computed tomography in advanced gastric cancer

Objective： Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors （RECIST） guideline version 1.0 （RECIST 1.0） was proposed as a new guideline for evaluating tumor response and has been widely accepted as a standardized measure. With a number of issues being raised on RECIST 1.0, however, a revised RECIST guideline version 1.1 （RECIST 1.1） was proposed by the RECIST Working Group in 2009. This study was conducted to compare CT tumor response based on RECIST 1.1 vs. RECIST 1.0 in patients with advanced gastric cancer （AGC）. Methods： We reviewed 61 AGC patients with measurable diseases by RECIST 1.0 who were enrolled in other clinical trials between 2008 and 2010. These patients were retrospectively re-analyzed to determine the concordance between the two response criteria using the κ statistic. Results： The number and sum of tumor diameters of the target lesions by RECIST 1.1 were significantly lower than those by RECIST 1.0 （P〈0.0001）. However, there was excellent agreement in tumor response between RECIST 1.1 and RECIST 1.0 0（κ=0.844）. The overall response rates （ORRs） according to RECIST 1.0 and RECIST 1.1 were 32.7% （20/61） and 34.5% （20/58）, respectively. One patient with partial response （PR） based on RECIST 1.0 was reclassified as stable disease （SD） by RECIST 1.1. Of two patients with SD by RECIST 1.0, one was downgraded to progressive disease and the other was upgraded to PR by RECIST 1.1. Conclusions： RECIST 1.1 provided almost perfect agreement with RECIST 1.0 in the CT assessment of tumor response of AGC.

Injury of the dentatorubrothalamic tract in patients with post-traumatic tremor following mild traumatic brain injury: a case-control study

Post-traumatic movement disorder is one of the sequelae of traumatic brain injury. The dentatorubrothalamic tract(DRTT) is reported to be involved in the control of movement. Therefore, injury of the DRTT can be accompanied by abnormal movements, including ataxia, tremor, or dystonia. We investigated DRTT injuries in 27 patients who showed post-traumatic tremor in at least one of four extremities following mild traumatic brain injury. We classified DRTT injuries based on diffusion tensor tractography parameters and configuration: type A: the DRTT showed narrowing, type B: the DRTT showed partial tearing, and type C: the DRTT showed discontinuation. Fractional anisotropy and fiber number of the DRTT were significantly decreased in patients compared with the healthy controls. Based on our DRTT injury classification, among the 54 hemispheres of the 27 patients, type A injury occurred in 22 hemispheres(40.7%) of 17 patients, type B injury was present in 15 hemispheres(27.7%) of 10 patients, and type C injury was observed in 8 hemispheres(14.8%) of 6 patients. Our results suggest that diffusion tensor tractography-based evaluation of the DRTT would be useful when determining cause of post-traumatic tremor in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. The study protocol was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Yeungnam University Hospital(YUMC-2018-09-007) on September 5, 2018.

The human brain is known to contain a maximum of eight cholinergic nuclei： the basal forebrain region： the medial septal nucleus （Ch 1）, the vertical nucleus of the diagonal band （Ch 2）, the horizontal limb of the diago- nal band （Ch 3）, and the nucleus basalis of Meynert （Ch 4）; the brainstem： the pedunculopontine nucleus （Ch 5）, the laterodorsal tegmental nucleus （Ch 6）, and the para- bigeminal nucleus （Ch 8）; and the thalamus： the medial habenular nucleus （Ch 7）（Nieuwenhuys et al., 2008; Naidich and Duvernoy, 2009）. The cingulum is the neu- ral tract extending from the orbitofrontal cortex to the medial temporal lobe （Mufson and Pandya, 1984）. The cingulum plays an important role in memory because it is a passage of the medial cholinergic pathway, which pro- vides cholinergic innervations to the cerebral cortex after originating from Ch 1 and Ch 2 as well as Ch 4 （mainly）（Selden et al., 1998; Nieuwenhuys et al., 2008; Hong and lang, 2010）.

Implanting a preferential solid electrolyte interphase layer over anode electrode of lithium ion batteries for highly enhanced Li^+ diffusion properties

The lithium-ion batteries are recognized as the most promising energy storage system,but it still does not meet the power requirements of electric vehicle batteries owing to low volumetric energy density with the traditional graphite electrode *** this study,we report the development of a novel electrode system fabricated by implantation of a solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)layer on the graphite *** SEI-implanted graphite electrode is made using a lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide(LiTFSI)-based electrolyte and cycled with a lithium tetrafluoroborate LiBF4-based *** new electrode system shows significantly enhanced electrochemical properties owing to the rapid and efficient diffusion of Li ions through the SEI layer between the electrolyte and *** graphite electrode with its pre-formed SEI layer achieves a reversible capacity of 357 mAh g^-1 at 0.5 C after 50 cycles,which is significantly higher than that of commercial lithium-ion battery systems constructed with LiPF6(312mAh g^-1).The resulting unique electrode system could present a new avenue in SEI research for highperformance lithium-ion batteries.
