Gradient‑Layered mXene/Hollow Lignin Nanospheres Architecture Design for Flexible and Stretchable Supercapacitors

With the rapid development of flexible wearable electronics,the demand for stretchable energy storage devices has *** this work,a novel gradient-layered architecture was design based on single-pore hollow lignin nanospheres(HLNPs)-intercalated two-dimensional transition metal carbide(Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) mXene)for fabricating highly stretchable and durable *** depositing and inserting HLNPs in the mXene layers with a bottom-up decreasing gradient,a multilayered porous mXene structure with smooth ion channels was constructed by reducing the overstacking of mXene ***,the micro-chamber architecture of thin-walled lignin nanospheres effectively extended the contact area between lignin and mXene to improve ion and electron accessibility,thus better utilizing the pseudocapacitive property of *** these strategies effectively enhanced the capacitive performance of the *** addition,HLNPs,which acted as a protective phase for mXene layer,enhanced mechanical properties of the wrinkled stretchable electrodes by releasing stress through slip and deformation during the stretch-release cycling and greatly improved the structural integrity and capacitive stability of the *** electrodes and symmetric flexible all-solid-state supercapacitors capable of enduring 600%uniaxial tensile strain were developed with high specific capacitances of 1273 mF cm^(−2)(241 F g^(−1))and 514 mF cm^(−2)(95 F g^(−1)),***,their capacitances were well preserved after 1000 times of 600%stretch-release *** study showcased new possibilities of incorporating biobased lignin nanospheres in energy storage devices to fabricate stretchable devices leveraging synergies among various two-dimensional nanomaterials.

Hypothesized summative anal physiology score correlates but poorly predicts incontinence severity

To explore the relationship between such a construct and an existing continence score. mETHODSA retrospective study of incontinent patients who underwent anal physiology (AP) was performed. AP results and Cleveland Clinic Continence Scores (CCCS) were extracted. An anal physiology score (APS) was developed using maximum resting pressures (mRP), anal canal length (ACL), internal and external sphincter defects and pudendal terminal motor latency. Univariate associations between each variable, APS and CCCS were assessed. multiple regression analyses were performed. RESULTSOf 508 (419 women) patients, 311 had both APS and CCCS measured. Average mRP was 51 mmHg (SD 23.2 mmHg) for men and 39 mmHg (19.2 mmHg) for women. Functional ACL was 1.7 cm for men and 0.7 cm for women. Univariate analyses demonstrated significant associations between CCCS and mRP (P = 0.0002), ACL (P = 0.0006) and pudendal neuropathy (P multiple regression showed that the variables most useful in predicting CCCS were external sphincter defect, pudendal neuropathy and previous pelvic surgery, but only improving the scores predictive ability to 12.5%. CONCLUSIONThis study shows that the ability of AP tests to predict continence scores improves when considered collectively, but that a constructed summation model before and after multiple regression is poor at predicting the variability in continence scores.

High-mobility group box 1 was first discovered in the calf thymus as a DNA-binding nuclear protein and has been widely studied in diverse fields,including neurology and ***-mobility group box 1 in the extracellular space functions as a pro-inflammatory damage-associated molecular pattern,which has been proven to play an important role in a wide variety of central nervous system disorders such as ischemic stroke,Alzheimer’s disease,frontotemporal dementia,Parkinson’s disease,multiple sclerosis,epilepsy,and traumatic brain *** drugs that inhibit high-mobility group box 1 as a damage-associated molecular pattern,such as glycyrrhizin,ethyl pyruvate,and neutralizing anti-high-mobility group box 1 antibodies,are commonly used to target high-mobility group box 1 activity in central nervous system *** it is commonly known for its detrimental inflammatory effect,high-mobility group box 1 has also been shown to have beneficial pro-regenerative roles in central nervous system *** this narrative review,we provide a brief summary of the history of high-mobility group box 1 research and its characterization as a damage-associated molecular pattern,its downstream receptors,and intracellular signaling pathways,how high-mobility group box 1 exerts the repair-favoring roles in general and in the central nervous system,and clues on how to differentiate the pro-regenerative from the pro-inflammatory *** targeting high-mobility group box 1 in the central nervous system may benefit from differentiating between the two functions rather than overall suppression of high-mobility group box 1.

Contemporary management of locally advanced rectal cancer:Resolving issues, controversies and shifting paradigms

Advancements in rectal cancer treatment have resulted in improvement only in locoregional control and have failed to address distant relapse, which is the predominant mode of treatment failure in rectal cancer. As the efficacy of conventional chemoradiotherapy（CRT） followed by total mesorectal excision（TmE） reaches a plateau, the need for alternative strategies in locally advanced rectal cancer（LARC） has grown in relevance. Several novel strategies have been conceptualized to address this issue, including： 1） neoadjuvant induction and consolidation chemotherapy before CRT; 2） neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone to avoid the sequelae of radiation; and 3） nonoperative management for patients who achieved pathological or clinical complete response after CRT. This article explores the issues, recent advances and paradigm shifts in the management of LARC and emphasizes the need for a personalized treatment plan for each patient based on tumor stage, location, gene expression and quality of life.

Satisfaction with patient-doctor relationships in inflammatory bowel diseases:Examining patient-initiated change of specialist

AIm:To assess the reasons for,and factors associated with,patient-initiated changes in treating specialist in inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD).mETHODS:Prospectively identified IBD patients(n = 256) with ≥ 1 encounter at a metropolitan hospital were surveyed,including whether they had changed treating specialist and *** reasons included loss of confidence,disagreement,and/or personality clash with the ***:Of 162 respondents,70(43%) had ever changed specialists;30/70(43%) for negative reasons,52/70(74%) in the preceding *** with negative reasons for changing(n = 30) were younger(median,35.2 years vs 45.3 years),had higher IBD knowledge(median,5.0 years vs 4.0 years),yet had lower medication adherence and satisfaction scores(median,19.0 years vs 22.0 years,14.0 years vs 16.0 years respectively,mann-Whitney tests,all P mpared to all other responders(n = 132).Patients with a recent change(for any reason) were more likely to have Crohn's disease,currently active disease,previous bowel resection and recent hospitalization [OR 2.6,95% CI(1.3-5.4),2.2(1.0-4.7),5.56(1.92-16.67),2.0(1.3-3.0),eachP mporaneous disease-related factors(recent relapse) which,where modifiable,may enhance patient-doctor relationships and therefore quality of care.

Precambrian supercontinents,glaciations,atmospheric oxygenation,metazoan evolution and an impact that may have changed the second half of Earth history

In more than 4 Ga of geological evolution, the Earth has twice gone through extreme climatic perturba- tions, when extensive glaciations occurred, together with alternating warm periods which were accom- panied by atmospheric oxygenation. The younger of these two episodes of climatic oscillation preceded the Cambrian ＂explosion＂ of metazoan life forms, but similar extreme climatic conditions existed between about 2.4 and 2.2 Ga. Over long time periods, changing solar luminosity and mantle temperatures have played important roles in regulating Earth＇s climate but both periods of climatic upheaval are associated with supercontinents. Enhanced weathering on the orogenically and thermally buoyed supercontinents would have stripped CO2 from the atmosphere, initiating a cooling trend that resulted in continental glaciation. Ice cover prevented weathering so that CO2 built up once more, causing collapse of the ice sheets and ushering in a warm climatic episode. This negative feedback loop provides a plausible explanation for multiple glaciations of the Early and Late Proterozoic, and their intimate association with sedimentary rocks formed in warm climates. Between each glacial cycle nutrients were flushed into world oceans, stimulating photosynthetic activity and causing oxygenation of the atmosphere. Accommodation for many ancient glacial deposits was provided by rifting but escape from the climatic cycle was predicated on break- up of the supercontinent, when flooded continental margins had a moderating influence on weathering. The geochemistry of Neoproterozoic cap carbonates carries a strong hydrothermal signal, suggesting that they precipitated from deep sea waters, overturned and spilled onto continental shelves at the termination of glaciations. Paleoproterozoic （Huronian） carbonates of the Espanola Formation were probably formed as a result of ponding and evaporation in a hydrothermally influenced, restricted rift setting. Did prolonged two-stage fragmentation of the supercontinent Kenorland lead to arrested orogenesis on the southern margin of the Superior province?

Recent geochronological investigations reinforce the early suggestion that the upper part of the Paleoproterozoic Huronian Supergroup of Ontario, Canada is present in the Animikie Basin on the south shore of Lake Superior. These rocks, beginning with the glaciogenic Gowganda Formation, are interpreted as passive margin deposits. The absence of the lower Huronian （rift succession） from the Animikie Basin may be explained by attributing the oldest Paleoroterozoic rocks in the Animikie Basin （Chocolay Group） to deposition on the upper plate of a north-dipping detachment fault, which lacks sediments of the rift phase. Following thermal uplift that led to opening of the Huronian Ocean on the south side of what is now the Superior province, renewed uplift （plume activity） caused large-scale gravitational folding of the Huronian Supergroup accompanied by intrusion of the Nipissing diabase suite and Senneterre dikes at about 2.2 Ga. Termination of passive margin sedimentation is normally followed by ocean closure but in the Huronian and Animikie basins there was a long hiatus - the Great Stratigraphic Gap - which lasted for about 350 ma. This hiatus is attributed to a second prolonged thermal uplift of part of Kenorland that culminated in complete dismemberment of the supercontinent shortly before 2.0 Ga by opening of the Circum-Superior Ocean. These events caused regional uplift （the Great Stratigraphic Gap） and delayed completion of the Huronian Wilson Cycle until a regional compressional tectonic episode, including the Penokean orogeny, belatedly flooded the southern margin of the Superior province with foreland basin deposits, established the limits of the Superior structural province and played an important role in constructing Laurentia.

Environmental upheavals of the Ediacaran period and the Cambrian “explosion” of animal life

The second half of the Ediacaran period began with a large impact - the Acraman impact in South Australia, which was accompanied by a negative δ^13Ccarb anomaly and an extinction-radiation event involving acritarchs. A few million years later （-570 ma？） there was a second, deeper and longer-lived world-wide δ^13Ccarb anomaly （the Shuram anomaly） which coincides with extinction of the acanthomorphic acritarchs. Wide distribution of the Shuram event is exemplified by stratigraphic sections from South Australia, Oman, southern California and South China. The widespread anomaly has been tentatively attributed to a marine impact. During recovery from the Shuram event the enigmatic Ediacaran biota achieved its zenith, only to be extirpated and replaced by a polyphyletic assemblage of shelly animals in what is known as the Cambrian ＂explosion＂. This extinction-radiation cycle was preceded by glaciation, another δ^13Ccarb excursion and the highest ^87Sr/^86Sr values known from marine carbonates. These high Sr ratios have been linked to weathering of extensive tracts of continental crust that were elevated during amalgamation of the supercontinent Gondwana. Introduction of essential nutrients to the oceans would have promoted biological production of oxygen and provided P and Ca for the important skeletonization that characterizes the Cambrian ＂explosion＂ and caused a quantum leap in the preservation potential of animal remains. Turbulent events of the last 50 million years of Precambrian time include three glaciations, two large impacts and a massive orogenic episode. These dramatic environmental upheavals are held responsible for three consecutive extinction-radiation cycles that culminated in the appearance of a diverse array of shelly fossils. Various lines of evidence suggest that the metazoans have deep roots so that they too may have been subjected to the environmental pressures of the late Ediacaran period clearly illustrated by acritarchs and the Ediacaran biota but

The Soil and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)is widely used to relate farm management practices to their impacts on surface waters at the watershed scale,yet its smallest spatial unit is not generally defined by physically meaningful *** hydrologic response unit(HRU)is the smallest spatial unit of the model,and the standard HRU definition approach lumps all similar land uses,soils,and slopes within a subbasin based upon user-defined *** standard method provides an efficient way to discretize large watersheds where simulation at the field scale may not be computationally *** relatively smaller watersheds,however,defining HRUs to specific spatial locations bounded by property lines or field borders would often be advantageous,yet this is not currently possible within the ArcSWAT *** this study,a simple approach is demonstrated that defines HRUs by field boundaries through addition of uniquely named soils to the SWAT user soil database and creation of a field boundary layer with majority land use and soil *** of nitrogen,phosphorus,and sediment losses were compared in a case study watershed where SWAT was set up using both the standard HRU definition and field boundary ***-scale results were reasonable and similar for both methods,but aggregating fields by majority soil type masked extremely high soil erosion predicted for a few *** from field-based HRU delineation may be quite different from the standard approach due to choosing a majority soil type in each farm *** approach is flexible such that any land use and soil data prepared for SWAT can be used and any shapefile boundary can divide HRUs.

Sedimentary diatom and pigment-inferred recent anthropogenic accelerated eutrophication of a mediterranean lake(Lake Dojran,Republic of North macedonia/Greece)

Lake eutrophication is recognised as a serious global challenge,and many regional legislative programmes are being made to attempt to relieve nutrient pollution and restore deteriorated lake ecological ***,it is of primary importance to understand the degradation processes and reference *** palaeolimnological approach allows us to use ecological evidences preserved in lake sediments to track the changes of lake trophic status under human ***,a proxy for ecological and limnological change,and pigments,a proxy for algal production and composition,were analysed on a short sediment sequence from Lake Dojran(Republic of North macedonia and Greece),and their preservation qualities were evaluated before environmental *** diatom preservation is inferred mainly from the consistent co-occurrence of robust,highly-silicified taxa and small taxa throughout the *** evaluation of the comparison between wet sediment samples in dark and cold storage and their corresponding dry sediment samples lyophilized immediately after the recovery reveals that sediment restoration conditions are critical for the accuracy of *** show that the increased chlorophyll and xanthophyll pigment concentrations,particularly the siliceous-algae pigment fucoxanthin and diatoxanthin,together with the distinct increase in diatom concentration,indicate accelerated lake eutrophication and a major ecological shift linked to intensified water abstraction practice and agricultural expansion in the late 18th to early 19th *** of diatom assemblage composition is muted probably by the dominance of widely-tolerant small fragilaroid species in diatom composition and the better competitive ability of cyanobacteria and chlorophytes than diatoms for low light under eutrophic and turbid *** study improves our understanding of recent human-induced environmental change and current ecological restoration target in this lake.
