Clinical outcome after orbital floor fracture reduction with special regard to patient's satisfaction

Purpose: Primary reconstruction via transconjunctival approach is a standardized treatment option for orbital floor fractures. The aim of this study was to compare the findings of specific ophthalmologic assessment with the patient's complaints after fracture reduction. Methods: A retrospective medical chart analysis was performed on patients who had undergone transconjunctival orbital floor fracture reduction for fracture therapy with resorbable foil (ethisorb sheet or polydioxanone foil). A follow-up assessment including ophthalmological evaluation regarding visual acuity (eye chart projector), binocular visual field screening (Bagolini striated glasses test) and diplopia (cover test, Hess screen test) was conducted. Additionally, a questionnaire was performed to assess patients' satisfaction. Results: A total of 53 patients with a mean follow-up of 23 months (ranging from 11 to 72) after surgical therapy were included. Diplopia was present preoperatively in 23 (43.4%) and reduced in follow-up examination (n = 12, 22.6%). Limitations in ocular motility reduced from 37.7% to 7.5%. The questionnaire about the patient's satisfaction revealed excellent outcomes in relation to the functional and esthetical parameters. Conclusion: Transconjunctival approach is a safe approach for orbital fracture therapy. Postoperative diplopia is nearly never perceptible for the individual and differs to pathologic findings in the ophthalmic assessment.

Harnessing the power of immersive virtual reality-visualization and analysis of 3D earth science data sets

The availability and quantity of remotely sensed and terrestrial geospatial data sets are on the ***,these data sets have been analyzed and quarried on 2D desktop computers;however,immersive technologies and specifically immersive virtual reality(iVR)allow for the integration,visualization,analysis,and exploration of these 3D geospatial data *** can deliver remote and large-scale geospatial data sets to the laboratory,providing embodied experiences of field sites across the earth and *** describe a workflow for the ingestion of geospatial data sets and the development of an iVR workbench,and present the application of these for an experience of Iceland’s Thrihnukar volcano where we:(1)combined satellite imagery with terrain elevation data to create a basic reconstruction of the physical site;(2)used terrestrial LiDAR data to provide a geo-referenced point cloud model of the magmatic-volcanic system,as well as the LiDAR intensity values for the identification of rock types;and(3)used Structure-from-Motion(SfM)to construct a photorealistic point cloud of the inside *** workbench provides tools for the direct manipulation of the georeferenced data sets,including scaling,rotation,and translation,and a suite of geometric measurement tools,including length,area,and *** developments will be inspired by an ongoing user study that formally evaluates the workbench’s mature components in the context of fieldwork and analyses activities.

Multifunctional antiperovskites driven by strong magnetostructural coupling

Based on density functional theory calculations,we elucidated the origin of multifunctional properties for cubic antiperovskites with noncollinear magnetic ground states,which can be attributed to strong isotropic and anisotropic magnetostructural *** 54 stable magnetic antiperovskites M_(3)XZ(M=Cr,Mn,Fe,Co,and Ni;X=selected elements from Li to Bi except for noble gases and 4f rare-earth metals;and Z=C and N),14 are found to exhibit the Γ_(4g)/Γ_(5g)(i.e.,characterized by irreducible representations)antiferromagnetic magnetic configurations driven by frustrated exchange coupling and strong magnetocrystalline *** the magnetic deformation as an effective proxy,the isotropic magnetostructural coupling is characterized,and it is observed that the paramagnetic state is critical to understand the experimentally observed negative thermal expansion and to predict the magnetocaloric ***,the piezomagnetic and piezospintronic effects induced by biaxial strain are *** is revealed that there is not a strong correlation between the induced magnetization and anomalous Hall conductivities by the imposed ***,the anomalous Hall/Nernst conductivities can be significantly tailored by the applied strain due to the fine-tuning of the Weyl points energies,leading to promising spintronic applications.

The Norwegian Margin formed in response to early Cenozoic continental breakup and subsequent opening of the Norwegian-Greenland Sea. There is a welldefined margin segmentation and the various segments are characterized by distinct crustal properties, structural and magmatic styles, and post-opening history of vertical motions. The sedimentary basins at the conjugate continental margins off Norway and Greenland and in the western Barents Sea developed as a result of a series of post-Caledonian rift episodes until early Cenozoic time, when complete continental separation took place.

Activated carbon is employed for the adsorption of organic micropollutants(OMPs)from water,typically present in concentrations ranging from ng L1 to mg L***,the efficacy of OMP removal is considerably deteriorated due to competitive adsorption from background dissolved organic matter(DOM),present at substantially higher concentrations in mg L*** the characteristics of competitive DOM is crucial in predicting OMP adsorption efficiencies across diverse natural *** weight(MW),aromaticity,and polarity influence DOM *** the aromaticity-related metrics,such as UV254,of low MW DOM were proposed to correlate with DOM competitiveness,the method suffers from limitations in understanding the interplay of polarity and aromaticity in determining DOM ***,we elucidate the intricate influence of aromaticity and polarity in low MW DOM competition,spanning from a fraction level to a compound level,by employing direct sample injection liquid chromatography coupled with ultrahigh-resolution Fouriertransform ion cyclotron resonance mass *** exchange resin pre-treatment eliminated 93%of UV254-active DOM,predominantly aromatic and polar DOM,and only minimally alleviated DOM *** characterization revealed that nonpolar molecular formulas(constituting 26%PAC-adsorbable DOM)with medium aromaticity contributed more to the DOM *** analysis indicated that the competitiveness of highly aromatic LMW DOM compounds was strongly counterbalanced by increased *** aromaticity-derived p-p interaction cannot facilitate the competitive adsorption of hydrophilic DOM *** results underscore the constraints of depending solely on aromaticity-based approaches as the exclusive interpretive measure for DOM *** a broader context,this study demonstrates an effect-oriented DOM analysis,elucidating counterbalancing interactions of DOM molecular properties

In this work,we explore the suitability of several density functionals with the generalized gradient approximation(GGA)and beyond for describing the dissociative chemisorption of methane on the reconstructed Pt(110)-(2×1)*** bulk and surface structures of the metal,methane adsorption energy,and dissociation barrier are used to assess the functionals.A van der Waals corrected GGA functional(optPBE-vdW)and a metaGGA functional with van der Waals correction(MS PBEl-rVV10)are selected for ab initio molecular dynamics calculations of the sticking *** results suggest that the use of these two functionals may lead to a better agreement with existing experimental results,thus serving as a good starting point for future development of reliable machine-learned potential energy surfaces for the dissociation of methane on the Pt(110)-(2×1)surface.

本文旨在讨论如何支持中国家庭照顾者更加有效地照护患有失智症的父母。21世纪以来,中国有越来越多的失智症患者出现,导致家庭照护需求也在不断增加。特别是在当下中国经济和社会转型的背景下,既往传统价值观也在转变,照顾者面临着更多的压力与挑战。本文简要描述了照护过程对失智症患者的家庭照顾者所产生的影响,同时引入了Aranda和Knight的基于社会文化视角下的压力与应对模式,作为思考如何提供相关社会服务的指导框架。本文同时介绍了英国失智症专科护士的培养及其为失智症患者家庭所提供的个案管理服务。基于中国孝道观和家庭为生病的家人提供照护的传统,英国的做法可能为中国的失智症照护人才培养及社区居家照护模式的构建提供一定的参考。
