A Multi-match Approach to the Author Uncertainty Problem

Purpose: The ability to identify the scholarship of individual authors is essential for performance evaluation. A number of factors hinder this endeavor. Common and similarly spelled surnames make it difficult to isolate the scholarship of individual authors indexed on large databases. Variations in name spelling of individual scholars further complicates matters. Common family names in scientific powerhouses like China make it problematic to distinguish between authors possessing ubiquitous and/or anglicized surnames(as well as the same or similar first names). The assignment of unique author identifiers provides a major step toward resolving these difficulties. We maintain, however, that in and of themselves, author identifiers are not sufficient to fully address the author uncertainty problem. In this study we build on the author identifier approach by considering commonalities in fielded data between authors containing the same surname and first initial of their first name. We illustrate our approach using three case ***/methodology/approach: The approach we advance in this study is based on commonalities among fielded data in search results. We cast a broad initial net—i.e., a Web of Science(WOS) search for a given author's last name, followed by a comma, followed by the first initial of his or her first name(e.g., a search for ‘John Doe' would assume the form: ‘Doe, J'). Results for this search typically contain all of the scholarship legitimately belonging to this author in the given database(i.e., all of his or her true positives), along with a large amount of noise, or scholarship not belonging to this author(i.e., a large number of false positives). From this corpus we proceed to iteratively weed out false positives and retain true positives. Author identifiers provide a good starting point—e.g., if ‘Doe, J' and ‘Doe, John' share the same author identifier, this would be sufficient for us to conclude these are one and the same individual. Measuring NO Production by Plant Tissues and Suspension Cultured Cells

We describe an inexpensive and reliable detector for measuring NO emitted in the gas phase from plants. The method relies on the use of a strong oxidizer to convert NO to NO2 and subsequent capture of NO2 by a Griess reagent trap. The set-up approaches the sensitivity for NO comparable to that of instruments based on chemiluminescence and photoacoustic detectors. We demonstrate the utility of our set-up by measuring NO produced by a variety of well established plant sources. NO produced by nitrate reductase （NR） in tobacco leaves and barley aleurone was readily detected, as was the production of NO from nitrite by the incubation medium of barley aleurone. Arabidopsis mutants that overproduce NO or lack NO-synthase （AtNOS1） also displayed the expected NO synthesis phenotype when assayed by our set-up. We could also measure NO production from elicitor-treated suspension cultured cells using this set-up. Further, we have focused on the detection of NO by a widely used fluorescent probe 4-amino-5-methylamino-2＇,7＇-difluorofluorescein （DAF-FM）. Our work points to the pitfalls that must be avoided when using DAF-FM to detect the production of NO by plant tissues. In addition to the dramatic effects that pH can have on fluorescence from DAF-FM, the widely used NO scavengers 2-phenyl- 4,4,5, 5-tetramethylimidazoline- 1-oxyl-3-oxide （PTIO） oxide （cPTIO） can produce anomalous and unexpected to bind to dead cells and remain NO-sensitive. and 2-（4-carboxyphenyl）-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline- 1-oxyl-3- results. Perhaps the most serious drawback of DAF-FM is its ability to bind to dead cells and remain NO-sensitive.

Corrosion performance,corrosion fatigue behavior and mechanical integrity of an extruded Mg4Zn0.2Sn alloy

Magnesium alloys are promising as load bearing *** are inevitably exposed to cyclic loading and corrosive environment in actual service,which can consequently result in corrosion fatigue failure and loss of mechanical integrity of the ***,in the present study,the corrosion behavior,corrosion fatigue performance and mechanical integrity of an extruded Mg4Zn0.2Sn(wt.%)alloy were thoroughly studied in two corrosive *** localized corrosion occurred when the alloy was immersed in deionized water based sodium chloride(NaCl)*** poor corrosion resistance of the alloy resulted in a fast deterioration of the tensile properties after pre-exposure to salt spray and a poor fatigue resistance in deionized water based NaCl *** comparison,the active dissolution of the substrate was sufficiently suppressed in artificial tap water based NaCl solution due to the formation of highly protective corrosion product *** consequently conferred longer fatigue life on the alloy in the *** results emphasized the influence of corrosion on the fatigue behavior and tensile properties of magnesium alloys.

Investigating the use cases of a novel heat battery in Dutch residential buildings

Recent advances in thermochemical storage technology have introduced a novel closed-loop thermal energy storage(TES)system,known as the heat battery(HB),which is believed to have great potential for aiding the energy transition in the built environment because of its higher energy density and neglectable storage loss compared to conventional TES *** order to investigate the potential use cases of the HB and provide practical feedback for its further development,this research employs a simulation-based approach to analyze its influence on building performance in various use cases within Dutch residential *** including the homeowner,distribution system operator,and district heating system operator are identified,and a preliminary list of use cases is defined based on relevant literature and input from the HB *** simulation approach is conducted to predict key performance indicators for each *** Kruskal-Wallis test was employed to sort and scrutinize the simulation outcomes and discern the significance of each use case *** findings demonstrated that the HB holds the potential to diminish both the operational energy cost by up to 30%for the homeowners and the peak heating load transmitted from the building to the district heating system.

The role of zonal flows in reactive fluid closures

We will give an overview of results obtained by our reactive fluid model. It is characterised as a fluid model where all moments with sources in the experiment are kept. Furthermore, full account is taken for the highest moments appearing in unexpanded denominators also including full toroidicity. It has been demonstrated that the strength of zonal flows is dramatically larger in reactive fluid closures than in those which involve dissipation. This gives a direct connection between the fluid closure and the level of excitation of turbulence. This is because zonal flows are needed to absorb the inverse cascade in quasi 2D turbulence. This also explains the similarity in structure of the transport coefficients in our model with a reactive closure in the energy equation and models which have a reactive closure because of zero ion temperature such as the Hasegawa-Wakatani model. Our exact reactive closure unifies several well-known features of tokamak experiments such as the l-H transition, internal transport barriers and the nonlinear Dimits upshift of the critical gradient for onset of transport. It also gives transport of the same level as that in nonlinear gyrokinetic codes. Since these include the kinetic resonance this confirms the validity of the thermodynamic properties of our model. Furthermore, we can show that while a strongly nonlinear model is needed in kinetic theory a quasilinear model is sufficient in the fluid description. Thus our quasilinear fluid model will be adequate for treating all relevant problems in bulk transport. This is finally confirmed by the reproduction by the model of the experimental power scaling of the confinement time Te ~ P-2/3. This confirms the validity of our reactive fluid model. This also gives credibility to our ITER simulations including the H-mode barrier. A new result is here, that alpha heating strongly reduces the slope of the H-mode barrier. This should significantly reduce the effects of ElM＇s.

Perturbation finite element solution for chemo-elastic boundary value problems under chemical equilibrium

Modeling the elastic behavior of solids in energy conversion and storage devices such as fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries is usually difficult because of the nonlinear characteristics and the coupled chemo-mechanical behavior of these *** this work,a perturbation finite element(FE)formulation is developed to analyze chemo-elastic boundary value problems(BVPs)under chemical *** perturbation method is applied to the FE equations because of the nonlinearity in the chemical potential expression as a function of solute *** compositional expansion coefficient is used as the perturbation *** the perturbation expansion,a system of partial differential equations for the displacement and dimensionless solute concentration functions is obtained and solved in consecutive *** presence of a numerical solution enables modeling 3D chemo-elastic solids,such as battery electrodes or ionic gels,of any geometric shape with defects of different *** proposed method is tested in several numerical examples such as plates with circular or elliptical holes,and *** numerical examples showed how the shape of the defect can change the distribution of solute concentration around the *** in chemo-elastic solids create sharp peaks in solute concentration around crack tips,and the intensity of these peaks increases as the far field solute concentration decreases.

Dynamics in large generators due to oval rotor and triangular stator shape

Earlier measurements in large synchronous generators indicate the existence of complex whirling motion, and also deviations of shape in both the rotor and the stator. These non-symmetric geometries produce an attraction force between the rotor and the stator,called unbalanced magnetic pull（UMP）.The target of this paper is to analyse responses due to certain deviations of shape in the rotor and the *** particular,the perturbation on the rotor is considered to be of oval character,and the perturbations of the stator are considered *** numerical and analytical methods it is concluded for which generator parameters harmful conditions,such as complicated whirling motion and high amplitudes,will *** maintenance of hydro power generators the shapes of the rotor and stator are frequently *** results from this paper can be used to evaluate such measurements and to explain the existence of complex whirling motion.

Fluid infiltration into retrograde granulites of the Southern Marginal Zone （limpopo high grade terrain） is exemplified by hydration reactions, shear zone hosted metasomatism, and lode gold mineralisation. Hydration reactions include the breakdown of cordierite and orthopyroxene to gedrite ＋ kyanite, and anthophyllite, respectively. Metamorphic petrology, fluid inclusions, and field data indicate that a low H2O-activity carbon-saturated CO2-rich and a saline aqueous fluid infiltrated the Southern Marginal Zone during exhumation. The formation of anthophyllite after orthopyroxene established a regional retrograde anthophyllite-in isograd and occurred at P-Tconditions of -6 kbar and 610 ℃, which fixes the minimum mole fraction of H20 in the CO2-rich fluid phase at ~ 0.1. The maximum H20 mole fraction is fixed by the lower temperature limit （~800 ℃） for partial melting at -0.3. C-O-H fluid calculations show that the CO2-rich fluid had an oxygen fugacity that was 0.6 log10 units higher than that of the fayalite-magnetite- quartz buffer and that the CO2/（CO2＋CH4） mole ratio of this fluid was 1. The presence of dominantly relatively low density CO2-rich fluid inclusions in the hydrated granulites indicates that the fluid pressure was less than the lithostatic pressure. This can be explained by strike slip faulting and/or an increase of the rock permeability caused by hydration reactions.

The effect of Tyrophagus putrescentiae on Fusarium poae transmission and fungal community in stored barley in a laboratory experiment

The effect of Tyrophagus putrescentiae on Fusarium poae transmission and fungal community composition was studied in nonsterile barley grain. The experiments included following treatments： control barley without mites; barley containing l0 or 50 mites without preincubation on E poae （Tpl0 and TpS0）; barley containing 10 or 50 mites after preincubation on E poae （FTp 10 and FTp50）. The number of mites, suc cessful transfer of E poae, and changes in the fungal communities were examined after 21 d of experiment. Increase of deoxynivalenol （DON） content in the barley was chosen as a criterion of successful Epoae transfer. The preincubation of T. putrescentiae on Epoae increased DON level approximately to 800 and 300μg/kg of grain for FTpl0 and FTpS0, respectively. T. putrescentiae population growth in FTpl0 was lower than in Tpl0, while no difference was found between FTp50 and Tp50. Fungal communities were compared by amplification, cloning and sequencing of ITS fragments, and operational taxonomic units （OTU） analysis. The OTU analysis did not support the transfer ofF. poae via mites. From the analyzed clones, only 13 cloned sequences clustered with E poae in an OTU defined at distance level 0.07. The related clones originated from FTpl0, Tpl 0, Tp50 and control treatments, but not from FTp50. However, the presence of E poae in FTp50 was confirmed by PCR amplification with specific primers. The observation may be explained by different effect of mite population density, that is, in the high density, （FTp50 treatment） the fungus was overgrazed, while the lower population density （FTp 10） supported E poae transfer.
