Geodashboards are often designed with explanatory elements guiding *** elements(*** or annotations)need to be carefully designed to mitigate split attention or information integration *** this paper,we report expert interviews followed by a controlled experiment where we compare two interface designs with a focus on the split attention effect:(1)a multiple-legend layout with explanatory elements located next to each view,and(2)a single-legend layout with all explanatory elements gathered in one *** legend layouts did not affect the performance,but affected user satisfaction.75%of the participants preferred the multiple-legend layout,and rated it with a higher usability score,mainly attributing this preference to the proximity of legend elements to the view of *** tracking data strongly and clearly verifies that participants indeed make use of the proximity:With the single-legend,the majority of eye-movement transitions were between the single-legend and the closest view to the legend,whereas with multiple-legend participants have shorter and more frequent legend visits,as well as more transitions between legends and *** together,the design lesson we learned from this experiment can be summarized as‘split the legend elements,but make it close to the explained elements’.

The paper reports on 3d numerical simulations of unsteady compressible airflow in a blade cascade consisting of flat profiles using a hybrid LES/rANS approach including a transition *** a first step towards simulation of blade flutter in turbomachinery,various incidence angle offsets of the middle blade were *** simulations were run for the flow regime characterized by outlet isentropic Mach number M_(is)=0.5and zero *** results of the LES/rANS simulations(pressure and Mach number distributions)were compared to a baseline rANS model,and to experimental data measured in a high-speed wind *** numerical results show that both methods overpredict flow separation taking place at the leading *** this regard,the hybrid LES/rANS method does not provide superior results compared to the traditional rANS ***,the LES/rANS results also capture vortex shedding from the blunt trailing *** frequency of the trailing edge vortex shedding in CFd simulations matches perfectly the spectral peak recorded during wind tunnel measurements.

The growing demand for substitutes of lithium chemistries in battery leads to a surge in budding novel anion-based electrochemical energy storage,where the chloride ion batteries(CIBs)take over the *** application of CIBs is limited by the dissolution and side reaction of chloride-based electrode materials in a liquid *** the flipside,its solid-state electrolytes are scarcely reported due to the challenge in realizing fast Cl^(-)*** present study reports[Al(dMSO)_(6)]Cl_(3),a solid-state metal-organic material,allows chloride ion *** strong Al-Cl bonds in AlCl_(3)are broken down after coordinating of Al^(3+)by ligand dMSO,and Cl^(-)in the resulting compound is weakly bound to complexions[Al(dMSO)_(6)]^(3+),which may facilitate Cl^(-)*** partial replacement of Cl^(-)with PF_(6)^(-),the room-temperature ionic conductivity of as-prepared electrolyte is increased by one order of magnitude from 2.172×10^(-5)S cm^(-1)to 2.012×10^(-4)S cm^(-1).When they are assembled with Ag(anode)/Ag-AgCl(cathode)electrode system,reversible electrochemical redox reactions occur on both sides,demonstrating its potential for solid-state chloride ion *** strategy by weakening the bonding interaction using organic ligands between Cl^(-)and central metallic ions may provide new ideas for developing solid chloride-ion conductors.

In this work the structural,electronic and thermoelectric properties of YbMg_(2)X_(2)(X=P,As,Sb,Bi)zintl compounds were investigated comprehensively using first principles *** electronic properties were studied using PBE GGA,TB-mBJ and hybrid(YS-PBE0)*** the structural parameters of optimized structures are in harmonious agreement to the available *** band structure study illustrates that the titled materials manifest metallic and semi metallic nature using PBE and TB-mBJ potentials while they show wide band gap semiconducting behavior by following hybrid(YS-PBE0)*** density of states(TdOS)and partial density of states(PdOS)were also calculated to glimpse the contribution of orbitals of atoms in the formation of *** properties were studied by using BoltzTraP2 code employed to *** get enormous values of Seebeck coefficient(S),power factor(PF)and thermoelectric figure of merit(ZT)for all the samples YbMg_(2)X_(2)(X=P,As,Sb,Bi),Moreover,the overwhelming transport properties for the titled compounds indicate the optimum level of carriers’concentration which pinpoints these materials to be better thermoelectrics in the 1-2-2 zintl family.

CO_(2) electrochemical reduction(CO_(2)Er)is an important research area for carbon ***,available catalysts for CO_(2) reduction are still characterized by limited stability and ***,metallic bismuth(Bi)has emerged as a promising catalyst for CO_(2) ***,we report the solid cathode electroreduction of commercial micronized Bi2O3as a straightforward approach for the preparation of nanostructured ***-1.1 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode in a KHCO3aqueous electrolyte,the resulting nanostructure Bi delivers a formate current density of~40 mA·cm^(-2) with a current efficiency of~86%,and the formate selectivity reaches97.6% at-0.78 *** nanosized Bi2O3as the precursor can further reduce the primary particle sizes of the resulting Bi,leading to a significantly increased formate selectivity at relatively low *** high catalytic activity of nanostructured Bi is attributable to the ultrafine and interconnected Bi nanoparticles in the nanoporous structure,which exposes abundant active sites for CO_(2) electrocatalytic reduction.

Effects of acid deposition control in China:a review based on responses of subtropical forests

For many decades,acid deposition used to pose a significant regional air pollution challenge in *** substantial emission control of anthropogenically derived sulfur and nitrogen containing gasses,both sulfur and nitrogen deposition,as well as the acid rain-affected area,have significantly decreased compared to their peak ***,particularly in the humid subtropics,are sensitive to acid deposition,as evidenced by soil acidification,sulfate and nitrate leaching in stream water,and elevated soil nitrous oxide *** in the total deposition of sulfur and nitrogen,caused a significant decline in sulfate and nitrate leaching from subtropical forest and subsequently in sulfate and nitrate concentrations in stream water,although there was about a 5-year *** delay may be attributed to the desorption of accumulated sulfate and continued elevated mineralization of accumulated nitrogen *** of nitrous oxide,a potent greenhouse gas,also declined in nitrogen-saturated subtropical forest soils,as soil water nitrate concentration ***,subtropical forests in China suffering from elevated acid deposition have begun to ***,the current levels of sulfur and nitrogen deposition continue to exceed the critical loads,i.e.,the assigned threshold levels in accordance with emission control policies,in more than 10%of the country’s land area,respectively,indicating remaining risks of acidification and ***,further emission reductions are urgently needed,also because they will help achieving goals related to air quality and nitrous oxide emissions.

The House Martin(delichon urbicum)is a common farmland bird species in the European landscape,yet its population numbers are currently in ***,it is not yet sufficiently explained why this long-term decline *** fill this gap in our knowledge,we investigated how land cover composition affects the abundance of House Martins on the landscape scale by using nationwide citizen science *** a generalised linear mixed-effect model(GLMM),we evaluated 12,094 records from the Czech republic spanning *** analysis underscores the significance of land cover type in shaping House Martin *** specifically,our results indicate that within agricultural land covers“naturally managed arable lands”exhibited significant positive effect,while forests,orchards,and vineyards were deemed less favourable for House Martin *** urban land covers,we found a clear distinction in the impact on House Martin populations,with a positive effect observed in urban infrastructure,development areas,and post-industrial sites(i.e.,UrbanAreas),while an indifferent impact was noted within urban green spaces and landscaped areas(i.e.,GreenUrban).Notably,our findings suggest that the simple spatial,age,and species structure typical of forests in Europe,and similarly,the uniform structure of parks and gardens,may be responsible for the decline in the abundance of the House *** advocate for the preservation or enhancement of urban greenery,expansion of natural vegetation in rural areas and adoption of ecological management practices in orchards and vineyards to mitigate further declines in House Martin populations.
