BACKGROUND Although the prognostic relevance of sarcopenia has been increasingly recognised in the context of liver disease,there is a paucity of data evaluating body composition in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB).Beyond virus-related factors,nutritional and metabolic aspects can be associated with skeletal muscle abnormalities in these patients and should not be *** To evaluate the association between components of sarcopenia and demographic,clinical,lifestyle,nutritional,and biochemical variables in CHB *** Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA)was used to assess muscle mass by quantifying appendicular lean mass(ALM)adjusted for body mass index(ALMBMI).Muscle function was evaluated by hand grip strength(HGS)and the timed up and go ***-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)was defined according to the criteria proposed by an international expert panel.A body shape index and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire were used to assess central obesity and physical activity level,*** This cross-sectional study included 105 CHB outpatients followed at the tertiary care ambulatory centre(mean age,48.5±12.0 years;58.1%males;76.2%without cirrhosis;23.8%with compensated cirrhosis).The DXA-derived fat mass percentage was inversely correlated with the ALMBMI(r=-0.87)and HGS(r=-0.63).In the multivariable analysis,MAFLD,sedentarism and central obesity were positively and independently associated with low *** and central obesity were independently associated with low *** MAFLD and central obesity were associated with low muscle mass and strength in patients with chronic hepatitis B,independent of the liver disease stage.

Heterogeneity in the Second Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS2) of rDNA in the Genetically Distinct Metopolophium dirhodum Isofemale Lineages (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

The aim of this study was to investigate the level of evolutionary divergence among five isofemale lineages of Metopolophium dirhodum Walker (Hemiptera: Aphididae) using sequences of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) of ribosomal DNA (rDNA). These isofemalelineages were derived from parthenogenetic females, previously genetically characterized by having strong association of RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) molecular markers and host plant preference. Out of 25 sequences, only 17 containing ITS2 (the second spacer) were used for analysis due to their quality. Within 250 nucleotide sites originated by multiple alignments, 10.4% were variable, with the predominance of indels over substitutions. The average of nucleotide diversity (π) within isofemale lineages was similar to the diversity found among all isofemale lineages. The topology inferred by the Neighbor-Joining method showed that no evolutionary divergence inferred by ITS2 sequences among isofemale lineages typified by RAPD could be associated with host preference. The ITS2 sequence differences found within lineages and their causes are discussed.

This study investigated whether Raman and Near Infrared(NIR) spectroscopy could predict tablet properties. Granules were produced on a continuous line by varying granulation parameters. Tableting process parameters were adjusted to obtain uniform tablet weight and thickness. Spectra were collected offline and tablet properties determined with traditional analyzing methods. Partial Least Squares(PLS) regression was used to correlate spectral information to tablet properties, but predictive models couldn’t be established. Principal component analysis(PCA) was effectively used to distinguish theophylline concentrations and hydration levels and multiple linear regression(MLR) analysis allowed insight on how granulation parameters affect granule and tablet properties.

The Control of Lactobacillus *** Extracellular Compound Produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the Fermentation Process of Fuel Ethanol Industry in Brazil

This work evaluated the effect of secondary bacterial metabolites produced by Pseudomonas sp LV strain in control of Lactobacillus sp. population in the microcosm of the vat during ethanol fermentation. The fraction F4 produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa was extracted with dichloromethane and fractionating by vacuum liquid chromatography obtained in a methanol phase. The evaluation of antibiotic activity of F4 fraction mixed or not with sulphuric acid and Kamoram?. The antibiotic activity of F4 fraction was determined as well as the fermentation efficiency. Also was determined yeast cell viability, budding formation, the viability of budding cells, and number of populations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Lactobacillus sp. The results showed that the F4 fraction had high selective antibiotic activity against Lactobacillus sp. but not for S. cerevisae, and no inhibitory effect was observed in the fermentation process by yeast. Also F4 fraction decreased flocculation and foam formation. The F4 has an antibiotic activity against Lactobacillus sp. and should be used as an alternative to control bacteria contamination and foam and flocculation formation in the fuel ethanol fermentation process. The F4 fraction could reduce the use of antibiotics in the control of Lactobacillus sp. population during the fuel ethanol production.

Background: Genomic growth curves are general y defined only in terms of population mean; an alternative approach that has not yet been exploited in genomic analyses of growth curves is the Quantile Regression(QR). This methodology allows for the estimation of marker effects at different levels of the variable of interest. We aimed to propose and evaluate a regularized quantile regression for SNP marker effect estimation of pig growth curves, as well as to identify the chromosome regions of the most relevant markers and to estimate the genetic individual weight trajectory over time(genomic growth curve) under different quantiles(levels).Results: The regularized quantile regression(RQR) enabled the discovery, at different levels of interest(quantiles), of the most relevant markers al owing for the identification of QTL regions. We found the same relevant markers simultaneously affecting different growth curve parameters(mature weight and maturity rate): two(ALGA0096701 and ALGA0029483)for RQR(0.2), one(ALGA0096701) for RQR(0.5), and one(ALGA0003761) for RQR(0.8). Three average genomic growth curves were obtained and the behavior was explained by the curve in quantile 0.2, which differed from the ***: RQR allowed for the construction of genomic growth curves, which is the key to identifying and selecting the most desirable animals for breeding purposes. Furthermore, the proposed model enabled us to find, at different levels of interest(quantiles), the most relevant markers for each trait(growth curve parameter estimates) and their respective chromosomal positions(identification of new QTL regions for growth curves in pigs). These markers can be exploited under the context of marker assisted selection while aiming to change the shape of pig growth curves.

Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome(HGPS) is a rare dysmorphic syndrome characterized by several features of premature aging with clinical involvement of the skin, bones, and cardiovascular system. HGPS has an estimated incidence of one in four million to one in eight million births. The main clinical features of HGPS include short stature, craniofacial dimorphism, alopecia, bone fragility, and cardiovascular disorders. The most frequent cause of death is myocardial infarction at a mean age of 13 years old. Dental manifestations include delayed development and eruption of teeth, discoloration, crowding and rotation of teeth, and displaced teeth. Cone beam computed tomography images revealed the absence of the sphenoid, frontal, and maxillary sinus, flattening of the condyles and glenoid fossa, and bilateral hypoplasia of the mandibular condyles. The disease is caused by mutations in lamin A/C(LMNA). Here, we present a case report of an 11-year-old boy with classical features of HGPS, which was caused by a de novo germ-line mutation(C1824T, G608G) in exon 11 of the LMNA gene. Some uncommon HGPS-associated features in our patient, such as alterations in the facial sinuses and hypoplasia of the condyles, contributed to the expansion of the phenotypic spectrum of this syndrome from a dentomaxillofacial perspective.

The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)has resulted in more than 93 million cases and 2 million deaths in the ***-CoV-2 respiratory tract infection and its main clinical manifestations such as cough and shortness of breath are well known to the scientific ***,a growing number of studies have reported SARS-CoV-2-related gastrointestinal involvement based on clinical manifestations,such as diarrhea,nausea,vomiting,and abdominal pain as well as on the pathophysiological mechanisms associated with coronavirus disease ***,current evidence suggests SARS-CoV-2 transmission via the fecal-oral route and aerosol ***,studies have shown a high risk of contamination through hospital surfaces and personal ***,viable SARS-CoV-2 specimens can be obtained from aerosols,which raises the possibility of transmission through aerosolized viral particles from ***,the infection by SARS-CoV-2 via fecal-oral route or aerosolized particles should *** addition,a possible viral spread to sources of drinking water,sewage,and rivers as well as the possible risk of viral transmission in shared toilets become a major public health concern,especially in the least developed *** authors have emphasized the presence of viral RNA and even viable SARS-CoV-2 in human feces,studies on the possible fecal-oral coronavirus disease 2019 transmission become essential to understand better the dynamics of its transmission and,then,to reinforce preventive measures against this infection,leading to a more satisfactory control of the incidence of the infection.

Sintered Calcined Clay as an Alternative Coarse Aggregate for Asphalt Pavement Construction

The aim of this study is to search for a substitute for the natural coarse aggregate in various regions of the world, such as Amazon-Brazil, where this type of material is lacking. The asphalt binder AC 50/70 is mixed with an aggregate obtained from the sinterization of a calcined clay (SACC) as a possible alternative to coarse aggregate material for the construction of asphalt pavements in tropical zones. The dynamic modulus |E*| of this mixture was measured under strain control mode and in tension control mode. The results are compared with those obtained from AC 50/70 mixed with pebbles, which is currently used as the coarse aggregate in this region. For pavements that work at high temperatures, such as 40℃, and low frequencies, the mixture with SACC appears to be a viable alternative to coarse aggregate material for the construction of asphalt pavements in tropical zones.

目的:比较圆锥角膜患者角膜交联(CXL)、等渗(IR)和低渗核黄素(HR)的结果。方法:回顾性研究,包括29例29眼圆锥角膜患者行角膜交联术,IR组15眼,HR组14眼。参数分析包括(随访1a):最佳矫正视力(BCVA),球体和柱体,中央和较薄处角膜厚度,平均和最大角膜曲率(分别为Km和Kmax),并发症及进展。结果:观察到两组的BCVA提高:治疗前IR组为0.26±0.57,HR组为0.47±0.72。术后1a,IR组为0.13±0.79,HR组为0.29±1.52,IR组BCVA更高(P=0.018)。术后1mo,两组中央角膜厚度(μm)均减少,但在接下来的数月中增加:术前IR组为497±28μm,HR组为432±14μm;术后1a,IR组为480±31μm,HR组为424±15μm。较薄处角膜厚度也是如此,术前IR组为487±29μm,HR组为410±20μm;术后1a,IR组为468±33μm,HR组为413±13μm。两组中Km和Kmax均降低。每组6眼呈现短暂的混浊,无持续性混浊。结论:在中央角膜厚度<400μm的患者中,HR的使用似乎是一个有效的替代执行传统CXL的技术。
