A water cyclone,developed to collect and preserve biological aerosols in a small liquid flow,was interfaced with a total organic carbon analyzer to measure the aerosol organic and inorganic carbon *** total carbon was compared against parallel measurements of elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) using a Sunset Real Time ECOC Analyzer between 12-29 January 2009.A National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) like protocol for the measurements included four temperature steps ending at 840 ℃ for OC under a helium atmosphere followed by two temperature steps ramped to 850 ℃ for EC in a helium-oxygen atmosphere,Carbon data comparison between the water cyclone-TOC and the TOC measured by the analyzer indicated good agreement (r2 =0.82,linear regression slope =0.98,p < 0.001).Analyses of the relationship between total water organic carbon and OC,investigated using data sets from case studies spanning two different events,suggested it was possible to distinguish between the primary and secondary sources.

Microneedle, as a novel drug delivery system, has attracted widespread attention due to its non-invasiveness, painless and simple administration, controllable drug delivery, and diverse cargo loading capacity. Although microneedles are initially designed to penetrate stratum corneum of skin for transdermal drug delivery, they, recently, have been used to promote wound healing and regeneration of diverse tissues and organs and the results are promising. Despite there are reviews about microneedles, few of them focus on wound healing and tissue regeneration. Here, we review the recent advances of microneedles in this field. We first give an overview of microneedle system in terms of its potential cargos (e.g., small molecules, macromolecules, nucleic acids, nanoparticles, extracellular vesicle, cells), structural designs (e.g., multidrug structures, adhesive structures), material selection, and drug release mechanisms. Then we briefly summarize different microneedle fabrication methods, including their advantages and limitations. We finally summarize the recent progress of microneedle-assisted wound healing and tissue regeneration (e.g., skin, cardiac, bone, tendon, ocular, vascular, oral, hair, spinal cord, and uterine tissues). We expect that our article would serve as a guideline for readers to design their microneedle systems according to different applications, including material selection, drug selection, and structure design, for achieving better healing and regeneration efficacy.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the fifth most common cancer and the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths *** resection is frequently limited in hong Kong by hepatitis B virus-related cirrhosis,and liver transplantation is the treatment of *** transplanta-tion has been shown to produce superior oncological benefits,when compared to hepatectomy for *** developments in the context of patient selection criteria,modification of organ allocation,bridging therapy,salvage liver transplanta-tion and pharmaceutical breakthrough have improved the survival of HCC *** this article,we will share our experience in transplanting hepatitis B virus-related HCC patients in hong Kong and discuss the recent progress in several areas of liver transplantation.

We investigated the prostate cancer detection rates upon transrectal ultrasound （TRUS）-guided biopsy in relation to digital rectal examination （DRE） and prostate-specific antigen （PSA）, and risk factors of prostate cancer detection in the Chinese population. Data from all consecutive Chinese men who underwent first TRUS-guided prostate biopsy from year 2000 to 2013 was retrieved from our database. The prostate cancer detection rates with reference to DRE finding and PSA level of 〈 4, 4-10, 10.1-20, 20.1-50 and 〉 50 ng ml^-1 were investigated. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate for potential risk factors of prostate cancer detection. A total of 2606 Chinese men were included. In patients with normal DRE, the cancer detection rates were 8.6%, 13.4%, 21.8%, 41.7% and 85.2% in patients with PSA 〈 4, 4-10, 10.1-20, 20.1-50 and 〉 50 ng ml^-1 respectively. In patients with abnormal DRE, the cancer detection rates were 12.4%, 30.2%, 52.7%, 80.6% and 96.4% in patients with PSA 〈 4, 4-10, 10.1-20, 20.1-50 and 〉 50 ng m1-1 respectively. Older age, smaller prostate volume, larger number of biopsy cores, presence of abnormal DRE finding and higher PSA level were associated with increased risk of prostate cancer detection upon multivariate logistic regression analyses （P 〈 0.001）. Chinese men appeared to have lower prostate cancer detection rates when compared to the Western population. Taking the different risk factors into account, an individualized approach to the decision of TRUS-guided biopsy can be adopted.

We investigated the performance characteristics of prostate-specific antigen （PSA） and PSA density （PSAD） in Chinese men. All Chinese men who underwent transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy （TRUS-PB） from year 2000 to 2013 were included. The receiver operating characteristic （ROC） curves for both PSA and PSAD were analyzed. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value （PPV） and negative predictive value （NPV） at different cut-off levels were calculated. A total of 2606 Chinese men were included. For the ROC, the area under curve was 0.770 for PSA （P〈 0.001） and 0.823 for PSAD （P〈 0.001）. PSA of 4.5 ng ml^-1 had sensitivity of 94.4%, specificity of 14.1%, PPV of 29.5%, and NPV of 86.9%; PSAD of 0.12 ng ml^-1cc^-1 had sensitivity of 94.5%, specificity of 26.6%, PPV of 32.8%, and NPV of 92.7%. On multivariate logistic regression analyses, PSA cut-off at 4.5 ng ml^-1 （OR 1.61, 95% CI 1.05-2.45, P = 0.029） and PSAD cut-off at 0.12 ng ml^-1 cc^-1 （OR 6.22, 95% CI 4.20-9.22, P 〈 0.001） were significant predictors for prostate cancer detection on TRUS-PB. In conclusion, the performances of PSA and PSAD at different cut-off levels in Chinese men were very different from those in Caucasians. PSA of 4.5 ng ml^-1 and PSAD of O. 12 ng ml^-1 cc^-1 had near 95% sensitivity and were significant predictors of prostate cancer detection in Chinese men.

The degradation of micropollutants in water via ultraviolet（UV）-based advanced oxidation processes（AOPs） is strongly dependent on the water matrix. Various reactive radicals（RRs） formed in UV-AOPs have different reaction selectivities toward water matrices and degradation efficiencies for target micropollutants. Hence, process selection and optimization are crucial. This study developed a facilitated prediction method for the photon fluence-based rate constant for micropollutant degradation(k'p,MP) in various UV-AOPs by combining model simulation with portable measurement. Portable methods for measuring the scavenging capacities of the principal RRs（RRSCs） involved in UV-AOPs(i.e., ho·, SO4·-, and Cl·) using a mini-fluidic photoreaction system were proposed. The simulation models consisted of photochemical, quantitative structure–activity relationship, and radical concentration steady-state approximation models. The RRSCs were determined in eight test waters, and a higher RRSC was found to be associated with a more complex water matrix. Then, by taking sulfamethazine,caffeine, and carbamazepine as model micropollutants, the k'p,MPvalues in various UV-AOPs were predicted and further verified experimentally. A lower k'p,MPwas found to be associated with a higher RRSC for a stronger RR competition; for example, k'p,MPvalues of 130.9 and 332.5 ***–1, respectively, were obtained for carbamazepine degradation by UV/H2O2in the raw water(RRSC = 9.47 × 10～4s-1) and sand-filtered effluent(RRSC = 2.87 × 10～4s-1) of a drinking water treatment plant. The developed method facilitates process selection and optimization for UV-AOPs, which is essential for increasing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of water treatment.

The long-term survival outcomes of radical prostatectomy(RP)in Chinese prostate cancer(PCa)patients are poorly *** conducted a single-center,retrospective analysis of patients undergoing RP to study the prognostic value of pathological and surgical *** April 1998 to February 2022,782 patients undergoing RP at Queen Mary hospital of The University of hong Kong(hong Kong,China)were included in our *** Cox regression analysis and Kaplan–Meier analysis with stratification were *** 5-year,10-year,and 15-year overall survival(OS)rates were 96.6%,86.8%,and 70.6%,respectively,while the 5-year,10-year,and 15-year PCa-specific survival(PSS)rates were 99.7%,98.6%,and 97.8%,*** International Society of Urological Pathology PCa grades(ISUP Grade Group)≥4 was significantly associated with poorer PSS(hazard ratio[HR]=8.52,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.42–51.25,P=0.02).Pathological T3 stage was not significantly associated with PSS or OS in our *** node invasion and extracapsular extension might be associated with worse PSS(HR=20.30,95%CI:1.22–336.38,P=0.04;and HR=7.29,95%CI:1.22–43.64,P=0.03,respectively).Different surgical approaches(open,laparoscopic,or robotic-assisted)had similar outcomes in terms of PSS and *** conclusion,we report the longest timespan follow-up of Chinese PCa patients after RP with different approaches.
