Myocardial Oxygenation Response to Stress Performing a Single-set Compared to Volume-Matched Multiple-Set of Leg Press in Untrained Young Adults

Background Debates exist about the preference for single-or multiple-set resistance exercise(RE)on achieving similar training outcome,however,no study examined their effects on the heart,thus,this study was to examine the effect of volume-matched single-and multiple-set RE on the myocardial response through examining rate pressure product(RPP).Methods Fourteen healthy untrained college students performed two leg press exercises(4×10 and 1×40 at 150%body mass)on different days,and each was performed twice in a counterbalanced crossover ***-and post-exercise SBP and HR were measured by auscultatory method,RPP was calculated as SBP×HR×10^(-3),RPP difference(RPPdiff)was calcu-lated by post-exercise RPP subtracting pre-exercise *** Single-set post-exercise RPP(17.48±3.16 mmHg·beats/min),HR(123.86±20.25 beats/min)was significantly greater than multiple-set post-exercise RPP(13.66±3.04 mmHg·beats/min),HR(101.61±19.14 beats/min),*** was no significant difference of SBP(141.07±9.37 vs.134.29±15.16 mmHg)between exercise protocols(P=0.13).The RPPdiff of single-set(6.74±2.86 mmHg·beats/min)was significantly greater than that of multiple-set(3.62±2.90 mmHg·beats/min)(P<0.001).Conclusions Single-set RE exerts a greater myocardial oxygenation response as compared to multiple-set,HR contributed more than SBP to the increase of RPP in *** results indicate that single-set RE can be warranted when wanting to train the heart,while multiple-set RE would appear best for those who should avoid heart stress.

Fluorination of the donor polymer or non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) in an organic photovoltaic device is an effective method to improve device *** there have been many studies on donor polymer fluorination,blends containing both a fluorinated donor and fluorinated NFA have rarely been *** this study,we use two donor polymers (4'-FT-HTAZ and 4'-FT-FTAZ) and two NFAs (ITIC-Th and ITIC-Th1) with different amounts of fluorine (from 2F to 6F) to investigate how the degree of fluorination in a blend impacts device *** find that fluorinating the NFA leads to a higher short-circuit current density (Jsc) and fill factor (FF),however,the open-circuit voltage (Voc) is decreased due to a depressed lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) *** additional fluorine to the donor polymer does not have a large effect on the Jsc or FF,but it does lead to an improved *** fluorinating the NFA and having more fluorine on the donor polymer,we obtain both a high Jsc and Voc simultaneously,leading to a power conversion efficiency over 10% in the case of 4'-FT-FTAZ:ITIC-Th1,which has the most amount of fluorine (6F).

Background To compare the preventive effects of levetiracetam and valproate on late-onset post-traumatic seizures in patients with traumatic brain injury(TBI).Methods A total of 95 patients with TBI were recruited from 2017 to *** were randomized into three groups:levetiracetam(LEV)group(n=30)receiving LEV treatment(500 mg,bid,po);valproate group(n=32)receiving sodium valproate(500 mg/d,once daily,po);and control group(n=33)receiving no anti-seizure *** and valproate were given to corresponding groups within seven days after TBI,and the administration lasted for one *** incidence of epilepsy and adverse events were evaluated at 7 days and 12 months *** The cumulative incidences of late post-traumatic seizures at the 12-month follow-up in the LEV,valproate,and control groups were 3.33%,12.50%and 15.63%,*** cumulative incidence of late post-traumatic seizures in the LEV group was significantly lower than those in the valproate and control groups(P0.05).Conclusions LEV can reduce the cumulative incidence of late post-traumatic seizures,whereas valproate can not.

AT2019 wey is a new galactic X-ray binary that was first discovered as an optical transient by the Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System(ATLAS)on December 7,***2019 wey consists of a black hole candidate as well as a low-mass companion star(M_(star)≤1.0 M_(■))and is likely to have a short orbital period(P_(orb)≤16h).Although AT2019 wey began activation in the X-ray band on March 8,2020,it did not enter the soft state during almost the entire *** this study,we present a detailed spectral analysis of AT2019 wey in the low/hard state during its X-ray outburst on the basis of Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array(Nu S T AR)*** obtain tight constraints on several of its important physical parameters by applying the state of the art relxill relativistic reflection model *** particular,we determine that the measured inner radius of the accretion disk is most likely to have extended to the innermost stable circular orbit(ISCO)radius,i.e.,R_(in)=1.38^(+0.23)_(-0.16)R_(ISCO).Hence,assuming R_(in)=R_(ISCO),we find the spin of AT2019 wey to be a*~0.97,which is close to the extreme and an inner disk inclination angle of i~22°.Additionally,according to our adopted models,AT2019 wey tends to have a relatively high iron abundance of AFe~5A_(Fe,■)and a high disk ionization state of logξ~3.4.

Characteristics of Rat Lumbar Vertebral Body Bone Mineral Density and Differential Segmental Responses to Sex Hormone Deficiency:a Clinical Multidetector Computed Tomography Study

Objective To investigate sex hormone deficiency related osteoporosis and efficacy of different therapies. Methods Orchiectomized and ovariectomized rat models are used to investigate sex hormone deficiency related osteoporosis and efficacy of different therapies. A rat vertebral body can be longitudinally divided into central portion, which contain more trabecular bone, and para-endplate portions which contain more compact bone. In matured male and female Wistar and Sprague-Dawley rat lumbar spines, we investigated baseline bone mineral density （BMD） characteristics and the differential segmental responses in bone loss within the lumbar vertebral body post gonadal surgery with clinical multidetector computed tomography. Results Para-endplate sections had a higher BMD than central sections. The cephalad para-endplate sections had a higher BMD than the caudad para-endplate sections. Eight weeks after gonadal removal, there was more bone loss in central sections than para-endplate sections. The relative difference of bone loss between para-endplate and central sections was more apparent in male rats than in female rats. There was more bone loss in caudad sections than cephalad sections; this lead to a further increase of BMD difference between caudad para-endplate sections and cephalad para-endplate sections post gonadal surgery. Conclusion The approach described in this study provided a consistent way to study BMD change within predominantly compact bone portion and trabecular bone portion of the vertebral body.

Three striking and impactful extreme cold weather events successively occurred across East Asia and North America during the mid-winter of 2020/*** events open a new window to detect possible underlying physical *** analysis here indicates that the occurrences of the three events resulted from integrated effects of a concurrence of anomalous thermal conditions in three oceans and interactive Arctic-lower latitude atmospheric circulation processes,which were linked and influenced by one major sudden stratospheric warming(SSW).The North Atlantic warm blob initiated an increased poleward transient eddy heat flux,reducing the Barents-Kara seas sea ice over a warmed ocean and disrupting the stratospheric polar vortex(SPV)to induce the major *** Rossby wave trains excited by the North Atlantic warm blob and the tropical Pacific La Nina interacted with the Arctic tropospheric circulation anomalies or the tropospheric polar vortex to provide dynamic settings,steering cold polar air *** long memory of the retreated sea ice with the underlying warm ocean and the amplified tropospheric blocking highs from the midlatitudes to the Arctic intermittently fueled the increased transient eddy heat flux to sustain the SSW over a long time *** displaced or split SPV centers associated with the SSW played crucial roles in substantially intensifying the tropospheric circulation anomalies and moving the jet stream to the far south to cause cold air outbreaks to a rarely observed extreme *** results have significant implications for increasing prediction skill and improving policy decision making to enhance resilience in“One Health,One Future”.

Rarely,penetrating injuries to the spinal cord result from wooden objects,creating unique challenges to mitigate neurological injury and high rates of infection and foreign body *** report a man who sustained a penetrating cervical spinal cord injury from a sharpened *** initially tetraparetic,he rapidly recovered *** risks of neurological deterioration during surgical removal made the patient reluctant to consent to surgery despite the impalement of the spinal cord.A repeat MRI on day 3 showed an extension of edema indicating progressive *** the 7~(th)day after injury,fever and paresthesias occurred with a large increase in serum inflammatory indicators,and the patient agreed to undergo surgical removal of the wooden *** discuss the management nuances related to wood,the longitudinal evolution of MRI findings,infection risk,surgical risk mitigation and technique,an inflammatory marker profile,long-term recovery,and the surprisingly minimal neurological deficits associated with low-velocity midline spinal cord *** patient had an excellent clinical *** main lessons are that a wooden penetrating central nervous system injury has a high risk for infection,and that surgical removal from the spinal cord should be performed soon after injury and under direct visualization.

Dispase rapidly and effectively purifies Schwann cells from newborn mice and adult rats

In the present study, Schwann cells were isolated from the sciatic nerve of neonatal mice and purified using dispase and collagenase. Results showed that after the first round of purification with dispase, most of the Schwann cells appeared round in shape and floated in culture solution after 15 minutes. In addition, cell yield and cell purity were higher when compared to the collagenase group. After the second round of purification, the final cell yield for the dispase group was higher than that for the collagenase group, but no significant difference was found in cell purity. Moreover, similar results in cell quantity and purity were observed in adult Sprague-Dawley rats. These findings indicate that purification with dispase can result in the rapid isolation of Schwann cells with a high yield and purity.

In-chamber thermocatalytic tar cracking and syngas reforming using char-supported NiO catalyst in an updraft biomass gasifier

The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of an in-chamber tar cracking and syngas reforming *** unit was composed of a two-stage tubular reactor placed within the combustion zone of an updraft biomass *** generated in the exothermic combustion reactions of biomass gasification drove tar cracking and syngas reforming in the tubes,eliminating the need of external *** performance of the unit was evaluated using char-supported NiO catalysts and was found to be very effective in tar removal and syngas composition enhancement.A tar removal rate of 95% was achieved at 0.3 s residence time and 10%nickel *** condition also gave syngas high-heating value increment of 36%(to 7.3 MJ/m^(3)).The effect of gas residence time and Ni loading on tar removal and syngas composition of the unit was also *** residence of 0.2-0.3 s and Ni loading of 5%-10% were found appropriate to produce clean syngas with tar content appropriate for industrial applications(<0.6 g/m^(3))in an updraft biomass gasifier without external heating.

Efficacy and safety of Xinfeng capsule in the treatment of osteoarthritis:a multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Xinfeng capsule(XFC) in patients with osteoarthritis(OA).METHODS: This was a multicenter, double-blinded,randomized, controlled, clinical trial. Patients with OA were assigned to the XFC group [treated with XFC and a glucosamine(GS) placebo, n = 129] or the GS group(treated with GS and an XFC placebo,n = 126). Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. The primary endpoint was the difference between the two groups in the Western Ontario and Mc Master Universities OA(WOMAC) index total score at 4 th week. The secondary endpoints were the visual analogue scale for pain, Lequesne index, function influence index rating, quality of life as assessed by the Short Form-36, erythrocyte sedimentation rate,and C-reactive protein concentration at baseline and at second week and 4 th week. Bone mineral density were checked by X ray absorptiometry at baseline and 4 th ***: After 4 weeks of treatment, all patients in both groups showed similar significant improvements compared with baseline. There were no significant differences between groups regarding pain relief, bilateral femoral bone mineral density, and laboratory indices such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein *** groups had a significantly lower function influence index rating score and curative effect for each sign/symptom in week 4 than in week 0, and these changes did not significantly differ between groups. XFC was superior to GS in improving the WOMAC index total score, WOMAC scores for function and stiffness, integrated symptoms, physiological function, energy, emotional function, mental health, and health changes. Fourteen adverse reactions were reported, and the incidence of adverse reactions did not significantly differ between groups.
