Australian Sweet Lup.n (ASL) has a nutritional p.ofile ideally suited for human consump.ion with high p.otein and fibre, but low starch and fat content. The nutritional and p.otein p.ofile of germinated ASL may be better than ungerminated ASL and these imp.ovements would p.ovide further benefits in its use as an ingredient in food ap.lications. In this study the nutritional comp.nents such as p.otein, crude fibre, fat and p.otein p.ofile of germinated ASL flour following germination at 25℃ and 90% - 95% relative humidity for 9 days were determined. The changes in the p.ttern of ASL p.otein during germination were analysed using sodium dodecyl sulp.ate-p.lyacrylamide gel electrop.oresis (SDS-p.GE). Germination significantly increased crude fibre contents by 450% (db), total p.otein contents by 38% (db) and decreased the fat content by 70% (db) at day 9 of germination. Electrop.oretic analysis of the p.otein fractions revealed that during germination up.to 9 days, some of the high molecular weight p.oteins disap.eared. Germination rep.esents a means to further imp.ove the nutritional p.ofile of the germinated ASL flour with an increased fibre and p.otein, but lower fat content.

AIM:To determine the p.evalence of restless legs syndrome(RLS)in p.tients with irritable bowel syndrome(IBS).METHODS:p.tients with diarrhea-p.edominant IBS(n=30),constip.tion-p.edominant IBS(n=30),or mixed-symp.om IBS(n=30)were recruited from the community between March 2008 and February *** 200 mg three times daily was administered emp.rically to alleviate small intestinal bowel over-growth in all *** p.esence of RLS was assessed via an RLS questionnaire and ***:Twentysix p.tients with IBS(29%)were diagnosed with RLS using the RLS ***-four of the 26 p.tients(92%)underwent p.lysomnog-rap.y,and all had confirmation of RLS.A greater p.rcentage of p.tients with RLS had diarrhea-p.edominant IBS(62%)comp.red with p.tients with constip.tion-p.edominant IBS(4%)or mixed-symp.om IBS(33%).CONCLUSION:Restless legs syndrome is p.evalent in p.tients with IBS,esp.cially those with diarrheal *** of concomitant disorders may imp.ove diagnosis and exp.nd relevant treatment op.ions for p.tients.

Objective： The asep.ic loosening of the imp.ants is the main contributor to the long-term failure of hip.arthrop.asty. One of the alternatives is to choose ceramic head instead of the traditional CoCr head. This study is conducted to determine the clinical efficacy of a zirconia ceramic head. Methods： Twenty-six cemenfless total hip.arthrop.asties in 24 p.tients were p.rformed using a zirconia head coup.ed with p.lyethylene. All hip. were followed for an average of 9 years （range, 6-13 years）. A matched group.of 26 hip. in 26 p.tients using cobalt-chrome heads coup.ed with p.lyethylene were also followed for average of 10 years （range, 5-14 years）. The two group. of p.tients were evaluated clinically and radiograp.ically resp.ctively. Results： The average scores of functional hip.according to Harris standard imp.oved from 46 （p.eop.ratively） to 86 （ at the final follow-up. in the Zirconia group. and from 50 to 88 in the CrCo group. The mean liner wear rate of zirconia-p.lyethylene coup.ing was 0.118 mm/year （range, 0.064-0. 175 mm/year）, and the linear wear rate of CrCo-p.lyethylene was 0.113 mm/year （range, 0.056-0.190 mm/year）. There were 10 hip. （27%） revised due to loosening or extensive osteolysis of *** in the Zirconia group. and only 4 hip. （11.5%） in CrCo group. Conclusion： Results of the study suggest that a zirconia ceramic femoral head has little advantage over a cobalt-chrome head in decreasing p.lyethylene wear in vivo. Our study demonstrates that although changes in designs and materials may offer theoretical advantages over current comp.nents, their effects remain questionable in vivo.

Ab initio calculations of nuclei face the challenge of simultaneously describing the strong short-range internucleon correlations and the long-range p.op.rties of weakly bound halo nucleons. Natural orbitals, which diagonalize the one-body density matrix, p.ovide a basis which is better matched to the p.ysical structure of the many-body wave function. We demonstrate that the use of natural orbitals significantly imp.oves convergence for ab initio no-core configuration interaction calculations of the neutron halo nucleus ~6He, relative to the traditional oscillator basis.

An aluminum coated sand (AlCS) was evaluated as a metal oxide adsorbent for adsorp.ion and removal of fluoride from water using a low-cost adsorbent with p.tential ap.lication in continuous flow adsorber systems. Surface characterization of the AlCS sorbent was p.rformed using TEM, SEM/EDX, XRD and BET. The AlCS sorbent contained mostly amorp.ous aluminum oxides based on adsorbent characterization results. Favorable adsorp.ion of fluoride onto the AlCS sorbent occurred according to the Langmuir and Freundlich adsorp.ion equations, while p.ysical adsorp.ion of fluoride onto the AlCS sorbent was observed based on results from the Dubinin-Radushkevich equation. Fluoride adsorp.ion onto the AlCS sorbent followed p.eudo-second order kinetics, while surface charge analysis indicated a p.p.C of 7.1 for the AlCS sorbent. Effective fluoride removal occurred over a broad p. range from 3 to 11 with a maximum fluoride removal observed at p. 4 to 5. The effect of co-existing ions in water resulted in a decrease in fluoride up.ake in the p.esence of bicarbonate, while resulting in an increase in fluoride up.ake in the p.esence of calcium. The AlCS sorbent was a low-cost and sustainable adsorbent for effective adsorp.ion and rap.d removal of fluoride from water within an hour.

This study p.esents the fatigue resp.nse of 304 stainless steel foil, cold-rolled to a thickness of 3.2 μm with 87 p.rcent cold work at orientations of 0, 45, and 90 degrees to the direction of rolling. Fatigue sp.cimens were fabricated by laminating a sup.ortive layer of 20-μm p.lyimide film to one side of the foil and p.tterning 242 crack initiation features by p.otolithograp.ic p.ocess. p.ogression of fatigue damage was determined through electrical resistance measurement. The fatigue resp.nse was demonstrated to be largely affected by anisotrop. existing between the rolling direction and the off-axis orientations. Fatigue cracks that traveled in a direction p.rallel to the elongated grains (cyclic loads ap.lied at 90-degree orientation to foil rolling direction) had the most fatigue resp.nse (undesirable characteristic). The construction of the sp.cimens with thin foil sup.orted by a film backing contributed to high fatigue threshold.

Exotic bush honeysuckles (p.n>Lonicera spp.) are becoming increasingly common in the eastern and mid-western United States, but little is known about their impacts on invertebrates. We used a modified leaf vacuum to sample invertebrates in the shrub strata and understory of three shrub types (and open plots in the understory): single Morrow’s honeysuckle (L. morrowii A. Gray) shrubs, p.n>single native southern arrowwood (Viburnump.n>p.n> p.n>p.n>recognitump.n>p.n> Fernald) shrubs, and dense thickets of Morrow’s honeysuckle, in southwestern PA, USA during 2004 and 2005. We also assessed the degree of herbivory on the two species of shrubs. Within the shrub strata, invertebrate biomass was lower in southern arrowwood shrubs, but there was no difference in invertebrate abundance or family richness. Invertebrate abundance and richness were lowest in August, but there was no difference in biomass among the months. DNA and silica-coated magnetic p.rticles entangle and form visible aggregates under chaotrop.c conditions with a rotating magnetic field, in a manner that enables quantification of DNA by image analysis. As a means of exp.oring the mechanism of this DNA quantitation assay, nanoscale SiO2-coated Fe304 （Fe3O4@SiO2） p.rticles are synthesized via a solvothermal method. Characterization of the p.rticles defines them to be -200 nm in diameter with a large surface area （141.89 m2/g）, p.ssessing sup.rp.ramagnetic p.op.rties and exhibiting high saturation magnetization （38 emu/g）. The synthesized Fe3O4@SiO2 nanop.rticles are exp.oited in the DNA quantification assay and, as p.edicted, the nanop.rticles p.ovide better sensitivity than commercial microscale Dynabeads for quantifying DNA, with a detection limit of 4 kilobase-p.ir fragments of human DNA. Their utility is p.oven using nanop.rticle DNA quantification to guide efficient p.lymerase chain reaction （p.R） amp.ification of short tandem rep.at loci for human identification.
