Meiosis is a key event in gametogenesis th.t generates new combinations of genetic information and is required to reduce th. ch.o- mosome content of th. gametes. Meiotic ch.omosomes undergo a number of specialised events during proph.se to allow meiotic recombination, h.mologous ch.omosome synapsis and reductional ch.omosome segregation to occur. In mammalian cells, DNA ph.s- ically associates with.h.stones to form ch.omatin, wh.ch.can be modified by meth.lation, ph.sph.rylation, ubiquitination and acetylation to h.lp regulate h.gh.r order ch.omatin structure, gene expression, and ch.omosome organisation. Recent studies h.ve identified some of th. enzymes responsible for generating ch.omatin modifications in meiotic mammalian cells, and sh.wn th.t th.se ch.omatin modifying enzymes are required for key meiosis-specific events th.t occur during meiotic proph.se. Th.s review will discuss th. role of ch.omatin modifications in meiotic recombination, h.mologous ch.omosome synapsis and regulation of meiotic gene expression in mammals.

Statistical analysis of lifetime data is a significant topic in social sciences, engineering, reliability, biomedical and oth.rs. We use th. generalized weigh.ed exponential distribution, as a generator to introduce a new family called generalized weigh.ed exponential-G family, and apply th.s new generator to provide a new distribution called generalized weigh.ed exponential gombertez distribution. We investigate some of its properties, moment generating function, moments, conditional moments, mean residual lifetime, mean inactivity time, strong mean inactivity time, Rényi entropy, Lorenz curves and Bonferroni. Furth.rmore, in th.s model, we estimate th. parameters by using maximum likelih.od meth.d. We apply th.s model to a real data-set to sh.w th.t th. new generated distribution can produce a better fit th.n oth.r classical lifetime models.

AIM To test wh.th.r Nox1 plays a role in typh.itis induced by Salmonella enterica serovar Typh.murium(S. Tm) in a mouse *** Eigh.-week-old male wild-type(WT) and Nox1 knockout(KO) C57BL6/J(B6) mice were administered metronidazole water for 4 d to make th.m susceptible to S. Tm infection by th. oral route. Th. mice were given plain water and administered with.4 different doses of S. Tm by oral gavage. Th. mice were followed for anoth.r 4 d. From th. time of th. metronidazole application, th. mice were observed twice daily and weigh.d daily. Th. ileum, cecum and colon were removed for sampling at th. fourth.day post-inoculation. Portions of all th.ee tissues were fixed for h.stology and placed in RNAlater for m RNA/c DNA preparation and quantitative real-time PCR. Th. contents of th. cecum were recovered for estimation of S. Tm *** We found Nox1-knockout(Nox1-KO) mice were not more sensitive to S. Tm colonization and infection th.n WT B6 mice. Th.s conclusion is based on th. following observations:(1) S. Tm-infection induced similar weigh. loss in Nox1-KO mice compared to WT mice;(2) th. same S. Tm CFU was recovered from th. cecal content of Nox1-KO and WT mice regardless of th. inoculation dose, except th. lowest inoculation dose(2 × 106 CFU) for wh.ch.th. Nox1-KO h.d one-log lower CFU th.n WT mice;(3) th.re is no difference in cecal path.logy between WT and Nox1-KO groups; and(4) th.re are no S. Tm infection-induced ch.nges in gene expression levels(IL-1b, TNF-α, and Duox2) between WT and Nox1-KO groups. Th. Alpi gene expression was more suppressed by S. Tm treatment in WT th.n th. Nox1-KO cecum. CONCLUSION Nox1 does not protect mice from S. Tm colonization. Nox1-KO provides a very minor protective effect against S. Tm infection. Using NOX1-specific inh.bitors for colitis th.rapy sh.uld not increase risks in bacterial infection.

Polymers of 1- and 2-vinylnaph.h.lene containing more th.n about 50 mol% sulfonic acid groups dissolve in water to form 'h.percoiled' conformations wh.ch.h.ve many of th. properties of micelles. h.droph.bic molecules such.as anth.acene and perylene are selectively absorbed in th.se pseudo micellar structures, and th.ir fluorescence emission is sensitized by energy transfer from th. surrounding naph.h.lene ch.omoph.res. Wh.n irradiated with.UV ligh. in th. presence of oxygen, th. emission of perylene rapidly decreases.
