Comparison of the results between polyethylene liners articulated with zirconia ceramic and cobalt-chrome femoral heads in vivo

Objective： The aseptic loosening of the implants is the main contributor to the long-term failure of hip arthroplasty. One of the alternatives is to choose ceramic head instead of the traditional CoCr head. This study is conducted to determine the clinical efficacy of a zirconia ceramic head. Methods： Twenty-six cemenfless total hip arthroplasties in 24 patients were performed using a zirconia head coupled with polyethylene. All hips were followed for an average of 9 years （range, 6-13 years）. A matched group of 26 hips in 26 patients using cobalt-chrome heads coupled with polyethylene were also followed for average of 10 years （range, 5-14 years）. The two groups of patients were evaluated clinically and radiographically respectively. Results： The average scores of functional hip according to Harris standard improved from 46 （preoperatively） to 86 （ at the final follow-up） in the Zirconia group, and from 50 to 88 in the CrCo group. The mean liner wear rate of zirconia-polyethylene coupling was 0.118 mm/year （range, 0.064-0. 175 mm/year）, and the linear wear rate of CrCo-polyethylene was 0.113 mm/year （range, 0.056-0.190 mm/year）. There were 10 hips （27%） revised due to loosening or extensive osteolysis of the.cup in the Zirconia group, and only 4 hips （11.5%） in CrCo group. Conclusion： Results of the study suggest that a zirconia ceramic femoral head has little advantage over a cobalt-chrome head in decreasing polyethylene wear in vivo. Our study demonstrates that although changes in designs and materials may offer theoretical advantages over current components, their effects remain questionable in vivo.

For a non-trivial Banach space X, let J（X）,CNj（X）,C（P）NJ（X） respectively stand for the james constant, the yon Neumann-Jordan constant and the generalized yon Neumann-Jordan constant receatly inroduced by Cui et al. In this paper, we discuss the relatioa between the james and the generalized yon Neumann-Jordan constants, and establish an inequality between them： C（P）NJ（X） ≤ J（X） with p 〉 2, which covers the well-known inequality CNJ（X） ≤ J（X）. We also introduce a new constant, from which we establish another inequality that extends a result of Alonso et al.

Reprogramming of lipid metabolism is a newly recognized hallmark of malignancy.Increased lipid uptake,storage and lipogenesis occur in a variety of cancers and contribute to rapid tumor growth.Lipids constitute the basic struc-ture of membranes and also function as signaling molecules and energy sources.Sterol regulatory element-binding proteins(SREBPs),a family of membrane-bound transcription factors in the endoplasmic reticulum,play a central role in the regulation of lipid metabolism.Recent studies have revealed that SREBPs are highly up-regulated in various cancers and promote tumor growth.SREBP cleavage-activating protein is a key transporter in the trafficking and activation of SREBPs as well as a critical glucose sensor,thus linking glucose metabolism and de novo lipid synthesis.Targeting altered lipid metabolic pathways has become a promising anti-cancer strategy.This review summarizes recent progress in our understanding of lipid metabolism regulation in malignancy,and highlights potential molecu-lar targets and their inhibitors for cancer treatment.

IntroductIon Advances in acute stroke treatment and the widespread establishment of dedicated stroke units have resulted in an increase in post-stroke survival and life expectancy.However,stroke remains a leading cause of long-term disability worldwide,making the improve-ment of poststroke outcomes a chief health-care goal for many countries.The current strategies strive to reduce the initial injury by acutely implementing thrombolytic and/or endovascular interventions,to better under-stand the major determinants that influence the stroke recovery and to search for inno-vative,effective and accessible recovery and rehabilitation modalities that can mitigate various poststroke deficits and enhance the quality of life.

Mg alloys possess biodegradability,suitable mechanical properties,and biocompatibility,which make them possible to be used as biodegradable implants.However,the uncontrollable degradation of Mg alloys limits their general applications.In addition to the factors from the metallic materials themselves,like alloy compositions,heat treatment process and microstructure,some external factors,relating to the test/service environment,also affect the degradation rate of Mg alloys,such as inorganic salts,bioorganic small molecules,bioorganic macromolecules.The influence of bioorganic molecules on Mg corrosion and its protection has attracted more and more attentions.In this work,the cutting-edge advances in the influence of bioorganic molecules(i.e.,protein,glucose,amino acids,vitamins and polypeptide)and their coupling effect on Mg degradation and the formation of protection coatings were reviewed.The research orientations of biomedical Mg alloys in exploring degradation mechanisms in vitro were proposed,and the impact of bioorganic molecules on the protective approaches were also explored.

原创性、引领性国家重大科技项目位居中国重大科技项目体系的“金字塔尖”,是科技决策领域的关键核心问题之一,但对此类项目的科技决策研究尚存空白。本文指出,此类项目的科技决策逻辑应能界定“超强科学性”,还需应对组织管理超复杂、工程实现超高难度、经费审计这三类决策难题。本研究选取近30年来全球科技界已建成的原创性、引领性级别的重大科技项目中的佼佼者,即由美国主导、欧洲、加拿大主要参与的“詹姆斯·韦伯太空望远镜”项目为案例,凝练总结出此类项目的决策逻辑及方法,为“十四五”及2021—2035年中长期时段集聚力量进行原创性、引领性国家重大科技项目之科技决策补充新的理论视角与方法探究,并期许引起科技政策研究界对这一重要课题的深入挖掘。

Functional Enrichment of Utopian Distribution of Plant Life-Forms

Adaptive fuzzy neural inference systems are used to illustrate the primary nodal number of plant life-forms. Categorization of two candidate areas is carried out using the water-energy dynamic (for Ecuador, South America) and Macedonia, Southern Europe), within which the life-form spectra are distributed. Genetic optimization methods are used to expand the primary nodal number to the complete number of life-form categories. The distribution of the elements exhibits a stochastic, binomial distribution and the utopia line and curve are summarized which enhance accuracy of the climatic data and of the consequent numbers of plant species occurrences. Expansion of the distribution of each life-form category is approximated within the Z utopia hyperplane with use of the functional approximation algorithm. This process gives additional structure and informative value to the Z plane, enhancing our ability to make informed policy decisions concerning species and ecosystem conservation.

Dietary potassium-supplementation has been associated with a decreased risk of hypertension and other cardiovascular outcomes.However,blood pressure(BP)responses to potassium supplementation vary among individuals.This study was designed to examine the association between 12 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)in the adducin 1 alpha(ADD1)and guanine nucleotide binding protein(G protein)beta polypeptide 3(GNB3)genes and systolic BP(SBP),diastolic BP(DBP),and mean arterial pressure(MAP)responses to potassium-supplementation.We conducted a 7-day high-sodium intervention(307.8 mmol sodium/day)followed by a 7-day high-sodium with potassium-supplementation(60 mmol potassium/day)among 1906 Han Chinese participants from rural north China.BP measurements were obtained at the end of each intervention period using a random-zero sphygmomanometer.We identiﬁed signiﬁcant associations between ADD1 variant rs17833172 and SBP,DBP,and MAP responses to potassium-supplementation(all P<0.0001)that remained signiﬁcant after adjustment for multiple comparisons.In participants that were heterozygous or homozygous for the G allele of this marker,SBP,DBP,and MAP response to potassium-supplementation were–3.52(–3.82,–3.21),–1.41(–1.66,–1.15)and–2.12(–2.37,–1.87),respectively,as compared to the corresponding responses of 1.99(0.25,3.73),–0.65(–0.10,–0.21),and–0.23(–0.37,0.83),respectively,for those who were homozygous for A allele.In addition,participants with at least one copy of the G allele of rs12503220 of the ADD1 gene had significantly increased DBP and MAP response to potassium-supplementation(P=0.0041 and 0.01,respectively),which was also significant after correction for multiple testing.DBP and MAP responses to potassiumsupplementation were–1.36(–1.63,–1.10)and–2.07(–2.32,–1.82)for those with at least G allele compared to corresponding responses of 0.86(–0.68,2.40)and–0.45(–1.74,0.84)for those who were homozygous for A allele.In summary,our study identified novel associations between genetic variants of the ADD1 gene and BP respon

Oligodontia is the congenital absence of six or more teeth and comprises the more severe forms of tooth agenesis.Many genes have been implicated in the etiology of tooth agenesis,which is highly variable in its clinical presentation.The purpose of this study was to identify associations between genetic mutations and clinical features of oligodontia patients.An online systematic search of papers published from January 1992 to June 2021 identified 381 oligodontia cases meeting the eligibility criteria of causative gene mutation,phenotype description,and radiographic records.Additionally,ten families with oligodontia were recruited and their genetic etiologies were determined by whole-exome sequence analyses.We identified a novel mutation in WNT10A(c.99_105dup)and eight previously reported mutations in WNT10A(c.433 G>A;c.682 T>A;c.318 C>G;c.511.C>T;c.321 C>A),EDAR(c.581 C>T),and LRP6(c.1003 C>T,c.2747 G>T).Collectively,20 different causative genes were implicated among those 393 cases with oligodontia.For each causative gene,the mean number of missing teeth per case and the frequency of teeth missing at each position were calculated.Genotype–phenotype correlation analysis indicated that molars agenesis is more likely linked to PAX9 mutations,mandibular first premolar agenesis is least associated with PAX9 mutations.
