Treatment Outcome of Pelvic Osteosarcoma a 20 Year Experience in a Single Institution

Purpose: Osteosarcoma of limbs shows excellent therapeutic results due to development of diagnostic and treatment methods. However, osteosarcoma of pelvic bone is known to have lower incidence than those of limbs and poorer prognosis. This study is performed to research the diagnosis, treatment, treatment outcomes, and complications of osteosarcoma of pelvic bone and propose standards for adequate treatment. Objective and Method: 16 cases that were diagnosed as osteosarcoma of pelvic bone from January 1988 to October 2010 in Kosin University Gospel Hospital were analyzed. Follow-up periods were at least 2 months up to 60 months. There were 6 cases of male and 10 cases of female, and mean age was 44.3 (14 ~ 74) years old. 5 cases were accompanied by pulmonary metastasis at the time of the diagnosis. Surgical treatment including preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy was performed in 9 cases, and only chemotherapy and radiation were performed in 1 case. Among 9 cases having undergone surgical treatment, 3 cases were performed with biological reconstruction using autogenous bone graft and total hip replacement together, 1 case was performed with extracorporeal irradiated recycled autogenous bone graft, 1 case was performed with reconstruction using tumor prosthesis, and 4 cases were performed with wide excision. Retrospective review was done about diagnostic procedures, treatment methods and results, and complications. Results: Mean period from the onset of symptoms to the time of the diagnosis was 6.3 (3 ~ 12) months, and the symptoms were 7 cases of hip pain, each 3 cases of lumbar pain and radiating pain to lower limbs, pelvic mass, each 2 cases of inguinal pain, and each 1 case of thigh pain, Among the 9 cases performed with preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy and surgical treatment, there were 6 cases of T-10 protocol, 2 cases of T-20 protocol, and 1 case of IA (Intraarterial) Cis protocol. Long-Term Results of Ewing’s Sarcoma—In a Single Institution

Purpose: This study analyzed oncological and functional outcomes of treatment for Ewing’s sarcoma, as well as its significant risk factors through long-term follow up. Objective and Method: Between September 1990 and April 2009, 20 cases that were diagnosed and treated as Ewing’s sarcoma in Kosin University Gospel Hospital were entered onto the study. Mean follow-up period was 45.4 (12 - 108) months. There were 7 cases of male and 13 cases of female, and mean age was 19.9 (5 - 48) years old. Retrospective review was done about treatment outcomes, complications, and significant risk factors. Results: In terms of oncologic results, there were 9 cases of CDF (continuous disease free), 1 case of NED (no evidence of disease), 4 cases of AWD (alive with disease), 5 cases of doD (dead of disease), and 1 case of DWOD (dead with other disease). Five-year overall survival rate of all the patients was 70.0% and event-free survival rate was 50.0%. The mean MSTS (Musculoskeletal Tumor Society) score was 15.9 (53%) points at last follow-up. Among prognostic factors of age at diagnosis, Enneking stage, size of tumor, site of primary lesion, and distant metastasis, 5-year survival rate of groups without metastasis were 90.9%, nevertheless 44.4% in other group with the metastasis showing statistical significance (p = 0.020). Postoperative complications were 3 cases of infection, each 2 cases of ankylosis and metal failure, and each 1 case of leg length discrepancy, periprosthetic fracture, and local recurrence. Conclusion: Five-year survival rate of this study was similar to that of multicenter studies in America and Europe. Among the prognostic factors, distant metastasis was proven to be most significant. Enneking stage, size of tumor and site of primary lesion are also important and could be statistically significant if with more cases.

Quality of Life (QOL) in Long-Term Survivors of Osteosarcoma

We conducted this study to analyze the quality of life using the SF-36 health questionnaire and the MSTS scores depending on surgical method and the primary site of occurrence. On the surgical method, the limb salvage had more excellent outcomes (60.9) than the amputation (46.3). The tumor prosthetic replacement had notably higher scores (62.5) than any other methods. For the correlation coefficients on the MSTS and SF-36, the Physical Function had the highest degree of correlation. Excellent functions of the extremities would lead to a good quality of life.

Image-based Water Level Measurement Method under Stained Ruler

This paper propoes the water level measuring method based on the image, while the ruler used to indicate the water level is stained. The contamination of the ruler weakens or eliminates many features which are required for the image processing. However, the feature of the color difference between the ruler and the water surface are firmer on the environmental change compare to the other features. As the color differeaces are embossed, only the region of the ruler is limited to eliminate the noise, and the average image is produced by using several continuous frames. A histogram is then produced on the height axis of the produced intensity average image. Local peaks and local valleys are detected, and the section between the peak and valley which have the greatest change is looked for. The valley point at this very moment is used to detect the water level. The detected water level is then converted to the actual water level by using the mapping table. The proposed method is compared to the ultrasonic based method to evaluate its accuracy and efficiency on the various contaminated environments.

Night Vehicle Detection Using Variable Haar-Like Feature

This paper proposes a night-time vehicle detection method using variable Haar-like *** specific features of front vehicle cannot be obtained in road image at night-time because of light reflection and ambient light,and it is also difficult to define optimal brightness and color of rear lamp according to road *** comparison,the difference of vehicle region and road surface is more robust for road illumination ***,we select the candidates of vehicles by analysing the difference,and verify the candidates using those brightness and complexity to detect vehicle *** feature of brightness difference is detected using variable horizontal Haar-like mask according to vehicle size in the location of *** the region occurring rapid change is selected as the *** proposed method is evaluated by testing on the various real road conditions.

The application of Li metal anodes in rechargeable batteries is impeded by safety issues arising from the severe volume changes and formation of dendritic Li ***‐dimensional hollow carbon is receiving increasing attention as a host material capable of accommodating Li metal inside its cavity;however,uncontrollable and nonuniform deposition of Li remains a *** this study,we synthesize metal–organic framework‐derived carbon microcapsules with heteroatom clusters(Zn and Ag)on the capsule walls and it is demonstrated that Ag‐assisted nucleation of Li metal alters the outward‐to‐inward growth in the microcapsule ***‐incorporated microcapsules are prepared via chemical etching of zeolitic imidazole framework‐8 polyhedra and are subsequently decorated with Ag by a galvanic displacement reaction between Ag^(+)and metallic *** introduced Ag significantly reduces the energy barrier and increases the reaction rate for Li nucleation in the microcapsule host upon Li *** combined electrochemical,microstructural,and computational studies,we verify the beneficial role of Ag‐assisted Li nucleation in facilitating inward growth inside the cavity of the microcapsule host and,in turn,enhancing electrochemical *** study provides new insights into the design of reversible host materials for practical Li metal batteries.

With the increasing spotlight in electric vehicles,there is a growing demand for high-energy-density batteries to enhance driving ***,several studies have been conducted on high-energy-density LiNi_(x)Co_(y)Mn_(z)O_(2)***,there is a limit to permanent performance deterioration because of side reactions caused by moisture in the atmosphere and continuous microcracks during cycling as the Ni content to express high energy increases and the content of Mn and Co that maintain structural and electrochemical stabilization *** direct modification of the surface and bulk regions aims to enhance the capacity and long-term performance of high-Ni cathode ***,an efficient modification requires a study based on a thorough understanding of the degradation mechanisms in the surface and bulk *** this review,a comprehensive analysis of various modifications,including doping,coating,concentration gradient,and single crystals,is conducted to solve degradation issues along with an analysis of the overall degradation mechanism occurring in high-Ni cathode *** also summarizes recent research developments related to the following modifications,aims to provide notable points and directions for post-studies,and provides valuable references for the commercialization of stable high-energy-density cathode materials.

Introduction Antibiotic use for acute otitis media(AOM)is one of the major sources of antimicrobial ***,the effective minimal antibiotic duration for AOM remains ***,guidelines often recommend broad ranges(5-10 days)of antibiotic use,yet the clinical impact of such a wide window has not been *** We systematically searched PubMed/MEDLINE,Embase,Scopus,Web of Science,and Cochrane Library from database inception to 6 October *** meta-analysis was conducted on randomized controlled trials that assessed antibiotic treatment for AOM in children(PROSPERO CRD42020196107).Results For amoxicillin and amoxicillin-clavulanate,7-day regimens were noninferior to 10-day regimens in clinical responses[amoxicillin:risk ratio(RR)0.919(95%CI 0.820-1.031),amoxicillin-clavulanate:RR 1.108(0.957-1.282)],except for≤2 *** the third-generation cephalosporins,7-day and 10-day regimens had similar clinical responses compared to placebo[7-day:RR 1.420(1.190-1.694),10-day:RR 1.238(1.125-1.362)compared to placebo].However,5-day regimens of amoxicillin-clavulanate and third-generation cephalosporins were inferior to 10-day *** to amoxicillin,a shorter treatment duration was tolerable with *** Our findings indicated that 1O days of antibiotic use may be unnecessarily long,while the treatment duration should be longer than 5 ***,5-day regimens would be sufficient for a modest treatment *** findings revealed that the current wide range of recommended antibiotic durations may have influenced the clinical outcome of AOM,and a narrower antibiotic duration window should be re-established.

Electrochemically Deposited CZTSSe Thin Films for Monolithic Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells with Efficiencies Over 17%

In spite of the high potential economic feasibility of the tandem solar cells consisting of the halide perovskite and the kesterite Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4(CZTSSe),they have rarely been demonstrated due to the difficulty in implementing solution-processed perovskite top cell on the rough surface of the bottom ***,we firstly demonstrate an efficient monolithic two-terminal perovskite/CZTSSe tandem solar cell by significantly reducing the surface roughness of the electrochemically deposited CZTSSe bottom *** surface roughness(R_(rms))of the CZTSSe thin film could be reduced from 424 to 86 nm by using the potentiostatic mode rather than using the conventional galvanostatic mode,which can be further reduced to 22 nm after the subsequent ion-milling *** perovskite top cell with a bandgap of 1.65 eV could be prepared using a solution process on the flattened CZTSSe bottom cell,resulting in the efficient perovskite/CZTSSe tandem solar *** the current matching between two subcells involving the thickness control of the perovskite layer,the best performing tandem device exhibited a high conversion efficiency of 17.5%without the hysteresis effect.

Tumor-protein 53(p53)is a transcription factor(TF)encoded by TP53(Trp53 in mice)and is a master regulator of tumor-suppressive programs'.Importantly,TP53 is the most frequently mutated gene in human cancer,and its loss of function contributes to tumor development,exemplified by variable p53 mutations detected in 50%-75%of pancreatic cancers.2 From these perceptions,a number of targets transcribed by p53 that confer tumor suppression have been ***,our understanding of how p53 prevents normal cells from initiating tumorigenesis is still *** complement this limitation,herein,we established a new approach to identify underlying effectors transcribed by p53 in normal physiology.
