Macrophage depletion and Schwann cell transplantation reduce cyst size after rat contusive spinal cord injury

Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar for highly proficient green hydrogen electrocatalyst at high current density

Advanced OER/HER electrocatalytic alternatives are crucial for the wide adaptation of green hydrogen ***,Ru/NiMnB spherical cluster pillar （SCP）,denoted as Ru/NiMnB,is synthesized using a combination of electro-deposition and hydrothermal *** investigation of Ru doping in the NiMnB matrix revealed significant improvements in electrocatalytic *** Ru/NiMnB SCPs demonstrate superior OER/HER activity with low overpotentials of 150 and 103 mV at 50mA/cm2in 1 M kOH,making them highly competitive with state-of-the-art ***,the Ru/NiMnB SCPs exhibit a low 2-E cell voltage of 2.80 V at ultra-high current density of 2,000 m A/cm2in 1 M kOH,outperforming the standard benchmark electrodes of RuO2||Pt/C,thereby positioning Ru/NiMnB as one of the best bifunctional *** SCPs exhibit exceptional high-current characteristics,stability and corrosion resistance,as evidenced by continuous operation at 1,000 mA/cm2high-current density for over 150 h in 6 M kOH at elevated temperatures under harsh industrial *** a small amount of Ru incorporation significantly enhances the electrocatalytic performances of NiMnB,attributed to increased active sites and improved intrinsic properties such as conductivity,adsorption/desorption capability and reaction ***,Ru/NiMnB SCPs present a promising bi-functional electrode concept for efficient green H2production.

Animal models of axon regeneration after spinal cord injury

With advances in genetic and imaging techniques, investigating axon regeneration after spinal cord injury in vivo is becoming more common in the literature. However, there are many issues to consider when using animal models of axon regeneration, including species, strains and injury models. No single particular model suits all types of experiments and each hypothesis being tested requires careful selection of the appropriate animal model. In this review, we describe several commonly-used animal models of axon regeneration in the spinal cord and discuss their advantages and disadvantages.

A comprehensive approach to a variability analysis between earthquake activity and hydro-environmental factors on the korean Peninsula

Following the Pohang and Gyeongju earthquakes and their aftershocks,there is no longer any zone that is safe from earthquake-related disasters in the korean *** order to monitor and predict earthquakes,correlation analysis of earthquakes and hydro-environmental factors are insufficient,and the development and application of hydro-environmental factor measurement equipment is still in the early *** study developes and verifies a more precise radon measurement *** specific earthquake cases(2019–2020)were selected,and the correlation of the analyses of the earthquakes and hydro-environmental factors(radon,electric conductivity(EC),water-level(WL),and water-temperature(WT))was conducted at the three specific groundwater ***,was confirmed that four factors are affected by earthquakes or seismic ***,the variability of the EC showed an identical tendency for a certain period before an earthquake occurred,and,in particular,the variability trends for radon,WL,and EC coincided at the time of the earthquake′s occurrence.

Advanced operation of heated fluidic resonators via mechanical and thermal loss reduction in vacuum

For simultaneous and quantitative thermophysical measurements of ultrasmall liquid volumes,we have recently developed and reported heated fluidic resonators(HFRs).In this paper,we improve the precision of HFRs in a vacuum by significantly reducing the thermal loss around the sensing element.A vacuum chamber with optical,electrical,and microfluidic access is custom-built to decrease the convection loss by two orders of magnitude under 10-4 mbar *** a result,the measurement sensitivities for thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity are increased by 4.1 and 1.6 times,*** differentiating between deionized water(H2O)and heavy water(D2O)with similar thermophysical properties and~10%different mass densities,the signal-to-noise ratio(property differences over standard error)for H2O and D2O is increased by 9 and 5 times for thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity,respectively.

Pyunkang-hwan (Pyunkang-Tang) ameliorates air pollutant-induced inflammatory hypersecretion of airway mucus and bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Pyunkanghwan(Pyunkang-tang) extract(PGT) on secretion of airway mucin in an experimental animal model involving hyperplasia of goblet cells and mucus hypersecretion, and to test its effects on bleomycin(BLM)-induced pulmonary fibrosis in ***: The protective activity of orally administered PGT was assessed in two rat pulmonary disease models. Effects on hypersecretion of pulmonary mucin in sulfur dioxide(SO_2)-induced bronchitis in rats were assessed by quantifying the amount of mucus secreted and examining histopathology in the tracheal epithelium. In a rat model for BLMinduced pulmonary fibrosis, toxicity to the pulmonary system was examined by measuring levels of malondialdehyde and hydroxyproline,indicators of lipid peroxides and collagen,respectively, in lung tissue 28 days post-BLM treatment. Serial sections of lung tissue were stained with Masson trichrome to visualize collagen deposition. Effects of PGT on collagen synthesis were also assessed in vitro, in a cell culture ***: PGT inhibited mucin secretion and normalized SO_2-induced increased muco- substances in goblet cells. In the BLM- induced model,PGT decreased the characteristic histopathological features of lung fibrosis and inhibited fibrotic lesions, as indicated by decreased hydroxyproline content. PGT also inhibited the BLM-induced increase in malondialdehyde levels, demonstrating its protective effect against lipid peroxidation in cell membranes of the lung. In MLg 2908 mouse lung fibroblast cells, PGT decreased transforming growth factor(TGF)-β-stimulated type I collagen ***: PGT can inhibit both hypersecretion of airway mucins and pulmonary fibrosis.

Efficient multi-response adaptive sampling algorithm for construction of variable-fidelity aerodynamic tables

Adaptive sampling is an iterative process for the construction of a global approximation model. Most of engineering analysis tools computes multiple parameters in a single run. This research proposes a novel multi-response adaptive sampling algorithm for simultaneous construction of multiple surrogate models in a time-efficient and accurate manner. The new algorithm uses the Jackknife cross-validation variance and a minimum distance metric to construct a sampling criterion function. A weighted sum of the function is used to consider the characteristics of multiple surrogate models. The proposed algorithm demonstrates good performance on total 22 numerical problems in comparison with three existing adaptive sampling algorithms. The numerical problems include several two-dimensional and six-dimensional functions which are combined into singleresponse and multi-response systems. Application of the proposed algorithm for construction of aerodynamic tables for 2 D airfoil is demonstrated. Scaling-based variable-fidelity modeling is implemented to enhance the accuracy of surrogate modeling. The algorithm succeeds in constructing a system of three highly nonlinear aerodynamic response surfaces within a reasonable amount of time while preserving high accuracy of approximation.
