Hypertension is a risk factor for a large number of vision-threatening eye *** this study,we investigated for the first time the retinal neural structure of the hypertensive BPH/2J mouse(Schlager mouse)and compared it to its control counterpart,the normotensive BPN/3J *** BPH/2J mouse is a selectively inbred mouse strain that develops chronic hypertension due to elevated sympathetic nervous system *** compared to the BPN/3J strain,the hypertensive BPH/2J mice showed a complete loss of outer layers of the neural retina at 21 weeks of age,which was indicative of a severe vision-threatening disease potentially caused by *** elucidate whether the retinal neural phenotype in the BPH/2J strain was attributed to increased BP,we investigated the neural retina of both BPN/3J and BPH/2J mice at 4 weeks of *** preliminary results showed for the first time that the BPH/2J strain develops severe retinal neural damage at a young *** findings suggest that the retinal phenotype in the BPH/2J mouse is possibly due to elevated blood pressure and may be contributed by an early onset spontaneous mutation which is yet to be identified or a congenital defect occurring in this *** characterization of the BPH/2J mouse strain is likely to i)elucidate gene defects underlying retinal disease;ii)understand mechanisms leading to neural retinal disease and iii)permit testing of molecules for translational research to interfere with the progression of retinal *** animal experiments were performed with the approval of the Royal Perth Hospital Animal Ethics Committee(R535/17-18)on June 1,2017.

Mitigation of spectral leakage for single carrier, block-processing cognitive radio receivers

Cognitive Radio （CR） is a multiuser, wireless communication concept that allows for a dynamic and adaptive assignment of spectral resources. The coexistence of multiple users, often transmitting at significantly different power levels, makes CR receivers vulnerable to spectral leakage caused by components＇ nonlinearities and timetruncation of the processed signal records. In this work we propose a method for mitigating the latter with an adaptive choice of the length of the processing block size. With simulations we show that a significant leakage reduction that leads to receiver dynamic range improvement of around 10 dB can be achieved with the proposed method.

Availability of Information on Reptile Health and Welfare from Stores Selling Reptiles

The popularity of keeping reptiles such as snakes and lizards is ever increasing. The health and welfare of these animals depends on the knowledge and understanding of their environmental and nutritional needs. But where does a new owner of these species obtain such information? This study aims to investigate what information is available in pet shops and stores for the reptile owning public and how well this information is imparted. Our findings show that there is a lot of excellent advice on the husbandry of reptiles in some shops while others offer less advice. It is hoped that through this study areas of downfall on primary knowledge can be recognized so that all shops can aspire to the highest levels of information.

Monoclonal Antibody Production and Immunolocalization of a Salinity Stress-Related Protein in Rice (Oryza sativa)

Among various physiological responses to salt stress, the synthesis of a lectin-related protein of 14.5 kDa was observed in rice plants （Oryza sativa l.） under the treatment of 170 mmol/l NaCl. In order to better understand the role of the SAlT protein in the physiological processes involving salinity, it was irnmunolocalized in mesophilic cells of leaf sheath and blade of a rice variety IAC-4440 following monoclonal antibodies produced by hybridome culture technique. This variety turned out to be an excellent model for that purpose, since it accumulates SAlT protein even in absence of salt treatment and it has been classified as moderately sensitive to salinity and a superior grain producer. This feature was relevant for this work since it allowed the use of plants without the deleterious effects caused by salinity. Immunocytochemistry assays revealed that the SAlT protein is located in the stroma of chloroplasts under non-stressing condition. Since the chloroplast is the main target affected by salinity and considering that the SAlT protein does not present any apparent signal peptide for organelle localization, its lectin-like activity seems to play an important role in the establishment of stable complexes, either to other proteins or to oligosaccharides that are translocated to the chloroplast.

The world's greatest professional football players are able to execute effective tactical decisions as well as fulfil various physical ***,the degree to which both are associated with greater potential in a football academy is ***,the aim of this study was to investigate decision-making skill and physical performance as contributing factors to coach potential rankings in an English football ***-eight outfield academy players(Foundation Development Phase[FDP]under-9 to under-11 n=40;Youth Development Phase[YDP]under-12 to under-16 n=58)participated in the *** engaged in 45 film-based simulations at two occlusion phases(e.g.,the visual display is cut-off at a precise time during an action),firstly"during"and secondly"post"execution,to examine decision-making *** also completed four fitness tests to examine physical performance.A classification of"higher-potentials"(top third)and"lower-potentials"(bottom third)were applied through coach *** t-tests compared the decision-making and physical performance ***-potentials made significantly more accurate decisions within the"post"phase within the FDP(Plly,higher-potentials were significantly faster for the 0-30 m sprint in both the FDP and YDP(Pls within the YDP also significantly faster in the 0-10 m sprint(Ply higher in the countermovement jump(Pll potential may be associated with superior perceptual-cognitive expertise and quicker sprint ability in both academy age phases,with a greater discriminatory function within the older cohort.

Novel technique for a symptomatic subscapularis herniation through a scapu-lar defect

Fractures of the scapula are rare and have been reported to account for only 1% of all fractures and 3%-5% of upper extremity fractures. Several studies have reported successful outcomes with non-operative treatment of scapula fractures. Although non-operative treatments are successful in a very high percentage of patients, very few cases of non-union of scapular body fractures have been reported. In our review of the literature, we found two case reports of scapular body fractures developed into non-unions. In both of these cases, open reduction and internal fixation with reconstruction plates and bone graft was successful at eliminating pain and restoring function. This is a case report of a patient with a symptomatic, extra-articular scapular body defect from a non-union that was treated successfully with an acellular dermal extracellular matrix and bone graft using a novel

Alpha-adrenoceptor antagonism by Crassostrea gigas oyster extract inhibits noradrenalineinduced vascular contraction in Wistar rats

OBJECTIVE： Crassostrea gigas oyster extract has been reported to have antioxidant, antihypertensive and lipid-lowering properties that may be useful for treating cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of C. gigas oyster extract on cardiovascular function in tissues from healthy rats. METHODS： Single-cell microelectrode and isolated thoracic aortic organ bath studies were performed on tissues from 8-week-old healthy Wistar rats, using varying concentrations of C. gigas oyster extract. To elucidate a mechanism of action for the oyster’s vasoactive properties, concentration response curves were carried out in the presence of a calcium channel inhibitior（verapamil）, a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor（N G-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester）, a potassium channel inhibitor（4-aminopyridine）, in addition to the α-adrenoceptor inhibitor prazosin. RESUlTS： Oyster solution at 7 500 mg/m l inhibited noradrenaline-induced contraction in isolated aortic rings. Cardiac electrophysiology results showed that neither concentration of oyster solution was able to significantly reduce action potential duration at all phases of repolarisation in left ventricular papillary muscles from healthy animals. CONClUSION： When administered to healthy vascular tissue, C. gigas oyster extract inhibits contraction induced by noradrenaline. This effect is likely to be mediated through α-adrenoceptor inhibition, and to a lesser extent, calcium modulating activity.
