Critical limb ischemia(CLI)is a devastating disease characterized by the progressive blockage of blood *** the paracrine effect of growth factors in stem cell therapy made it a promising angiogenic therapy for CLI,poor cell survival in the harsh ischemic microenvironment limited its ***,an imperative need exists for a stem-cell delivery method that enhances cell ***,a collagen microgel(CMG)cell-delivery scaffold(40×20μm)was fabricated via micro-fragmentation from collagen-hyaluronic acid polyionic complex to improve transplantation *** human adipose-derived stem cells(hASCs)with CMG enabled integrin receptors to interact with CMG to form injectable 3-dimensional constructs(CMG-hASCs)with a microporous microarchitecture and enhanced mass ***-hASCs exhibited higher cell survival(p<0.0001)and angiogenic potential in tube formation and aortic ring angiogenesis assays than cell *** of CMG-hASCs intramuscularly into CLI mice increased blood perfusion and limb salvage ratios by 40%and 60%,respectively,compared to cell aggregate-treated *** immunofluorescent analysis revealed that transplanted CMG-hASCs have greater muscle regenerative and angiogenic potential,with enhanced cell survival than cell aggregates(p<0.05).Collectively,we propose CMG as a cell-assembling platform and CMG-hASCs as promising therapeutics to treat CLI.

Dear Editor,Quorum sensing(QS)is a widespread phenomenon in bacteria which enables them to participate in cell-to-cell communication by producing and responding to small signal molecules,thus synchronously altering their behavior depending on population density(Singh et al.,2000;Miller and Bassler,2001).Through QS,bacteria coordinate processes such as expression of virulenee factors(Slamti and Lereclus,2002),biofilm formation(Parashar et al.,2011),sporulation(Perego et al.,1996),conjugation(Kozlowicz et al.,2006),antibiotic synthesis(Miller and Bassler,2001;Whiteley et al.,2017)etc.

This study was conducted to verify the effect of an electric pulse on growth of crops (lettuce and hot pepper) that were cultivated in lab-scale soil. The electric pulse generated from direct-circuited 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 V of electricity by periodic exchange of the anode and cathode was charged to a culture soil that is an electrically pulsed culture soil (EPCS) but not charged to a conventional culture soil (CCS). Growth of lettuce increased and growth duration of hot pepper plants was more prolonged at 4, 6, 8, and 10 V of EPCS than at 2 V of EPCS and CCS. The fruiting duration and yield of hot pepper fruits were proportional to the growth duration of the hot pepper plants. Temperature gradient gel electrophoresis (TGGE) patterns of 16S-rDNA obtained from the bacterial community inhabiting the CCS and EPCS were identical at the initial time and did not change significantly at days 28 and 56 of cultivation. The bacterial communities inhabiting the surface of lettuce roots were not influenced by the electric pulse but were significantly different from those inhabiting the culture soil based on the TGGE patterns. Growth of lettuce and hot pepper plants that were cultivated in 4 - 10 V of EPCS may increase;however, the bacterial community inhabiting the soil and the surface of plant roots may not be influenced by an electric pulse.

This study is intended to measure variations of nutritional soil condition and mass spectrometric patterns to describe the specific effects of electric pulse charged to culture soil which induced an increase of lettuce growth. In a previous study, lettuce cultivated in an electrically pulsed culture soil (EPCS) grew more actively than those in a conventional culture soil (CCS). Lettuce growth increased about 20% more in EPCS than CCS during cultivated for 21 days in this study. Content of nutrient salts and minerals varied in CCS and EPCS when assayed after the period of lettuce cultivation. Ammonium content in CCS was higher than that in EPCS but nitrate content was opposite of the ammonium. Inorganic N-compounds in EPCS was about 2.5 times higher than that in CCS. Content of phosphate in CCS increased greatly by lettuce cultivation but was about 2 times lower than that in EPCS. Contents of minerals in EPCS were relatively higher than those in CCS excepting Fe. Patterns of chromatography and mass spectrometry for water soluble compounds extracted from lettuces cultivated in EPCS were considerably different from those in CCS. Conclusively, electric pulse caused increased lettuce growth, improved nutritional soil conditions, and varied mass spectrometric patterns.

Background: Morel-Lavallee lesions (MLLs) are rare internal degloving injuries typically caused by blunt traumatic injuries and most commonly occur around the hips and in association with pelvic or acetabular fractures. MLL is often overlooked in the setting of poly-trauma;therefore, clinicians must maintain a high degree of suspicion and be familiar with the management of such injuries, especially in obese poly-trauma patients. Case presentation: We present a 30-year-old female pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle who sustained multiple long bone fractures, a mesenteric hematoma, and full-thickness abdominal skin friction burn which masked a significant underlying abdominal MLL. The internal degloving caused significant devascularization of the overlying soft tissue and skin which required surgical drainage of hematoma, abdominal wall reconstruction with tangential excision, allografting, negative pressure wound therapy, and ultimately autografting. Conclusion: MLL is a rare, often overlooked, internal degloving injury. Surgeons must maintain a high index of suspicion when dealing with third degree friction burns as they may mask underlying injuries such as MLL, and a delay in diagnosis can lead to increased morbidity.

Cystic lymphangiomas of the adrenal gland are rare. A 79-year-old female presented in the emergency room with epigastric discomfort, and an immovable mass was palpated in her abdomen upon physical examination. Imaging studies revealed a large cystic lesion in the pancreatic tail. The radiologic impression ruled out the possibility of a mucinous cystic neoplasm, or a pseudocyst in the pancreas. The operative findings demonstrated that the cystic mass originated in the left adrenal gland. A laparoscopic excision of the cystic mass was performed, and immunohistochemistry confirmed that this mass was a lymphangioma of the adrenal gland. Several prior reports have suggested that lymphangioma can mimic renal or splenic cysts. However, lymphangioma cases mimicking pancreatic cysts are very rare.

Optimal postoperative surveillance strategies for stage III colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Optimal surveillance strategies for stage III colorectal cancer(CRC)are lacking,and intensive surveillance has not conferred a significant survival *** To examine the association between surveillance intensity and recurrence and survival rates in patients with stage III *** Data from patients with pathologic stage III CRC who underwent radical surgery between January 2005 and December 2012 at Asan Medical Center,Seoul,Korea were retrospectively *** consisted of abdominopelvic computed tomography(CT)every 6 mo and chest CT annually during the 5 year follow-up period,resulting in an average of three imaging studies per *** who underwent more than the average number of imaging studies annually were categorized as high intensity(HI),and those with less than the average were categorized as low intensity(LI).RESULTS Among 1888 patients,864(45.8%)were in HI ***,sex,and location were not different between *** group had more advanced T and N stage(P=0.002,0.010,each).Perineural invasion(PNI)was more identified in the HI group(21.4%vs 30.3%,P<0.001).The mean overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free interval(RFI)was longer in the LI group(P<0.001,each).Multivariate analysis indicated that surveillance intensity[odds ratio(OR)=1.999;95%confidence interval(CI):1.680–2.377;P<0.001],pathologic T stage(OR=1.596;95%CI:1.197–2.127;P=0.001),PNI(OR=1.431;95%CI:1.192–1.719;P<0.001),and circumferential resection margin(OR=1.565;95%CI:1.083–2.262;P=0.017)in rectal cancer were significantly associated with *** mean post-recurrence survival(PRS)was longer in patients who received curative resection(P<0.001).Curative resection rate of recurrence was not different between HI(29.3%)and LI(23.8%)groups(P=0.160).PRS did not differ according to surveillance intensity(P=0.802).CONCLUSION Frequent surveillance with CT scan do not improve OS in stage III CRC *** need to evaluate role of other surveillance method rather tha

Compared with the traditional crypto- graphy, visual cryptography （VC） decrypts secret images referring to the characteristics of human vision, rather than the cryptography knowledge or complex computations. Furthermore, seeing to the freeness of the secret key, the whole process of encryption as well as deeryption for the visual cryptography meets a fast dealing course. As to the security concern, it is able to guarantee that no one can have access to any clues about the content of a secret image from individual cover images. Thus, owing to the studies on this area, the target of light-weighted cryptography is reached. Now the visual cryptography has been developed from the meaningless shadows to the meaningful ones. Seeing to the highly developed technique, some advanced VC techniques are introduced in this survey, respectively.
