Recovering extracellular polymeric substances(EPS)from waste granular sludge offers a cost-effective and sustainable approach for transforming wastewater resources into industrially valuable ***,the application potential of these EPS in real-world scenarios,particularly in paper manufacturing,remains *** we show the feasibility of EPS-based biomaterials,derived from anaerobic granular sludges,as novel coating agents in paper *** systematically characterised the rheological properties of various EPS-based *** applied as surface sizing agents,these EPS-based biomaterials formed a distinct,ultra-thin layer on paper,as evidenced by scanning electron microscopy.A comprehensive evaluation of water and oil penetration,along with barrier properties,revealed that EPS-enhanced coatings markedly diminished water absorption while significantly bolstering oil and grease *** performance was observed in EPS variants with elevated protein and hydrophobic contents,correlating with their superior rheological *** enhanced water-barrier and grease resistance of EPS-coated paper can be attributed to its non-porous,fine surface structure and the functional groups in EPS,particularly the high protein content and hydrophobic humic-like *** research marks the first demonstration of utilizing EPS from anaerobic granular sludge as paper-coating biomaterials,bridging a critical knowledge gap in the sustainable use of biopolymers in industrial applications.

Waste polyolefin plastics, accounting for 50% of all plastic waste, represent a tremendously unexploited carbon source. Efficiently upcycling polyolefin waste into value-added carbon materials for waste water treatment avoiding using noble metals is challenging but economically and environmentally sustainable. In this work, MAX-Ti_(3)AlC_(2) supported Fe selectively catalyzes polyolefin into few-layered graphene in 5 min under microwave treatment. graphene and MAX supported Fe(Fe@MLC) can completely(99.9%)degrade chloramphenicol(CAP) within 60 min, retain robust after 10 cycles and work efficiently at a wide p H range(3.87–13.03), avoiding the usage of noble metal. Moreover, the electrochemical active surface area(ECSA) of Fe@MLC is 2.7 times higher than that of commercial Pt/C. This work provides a cheap and efficient catalyst that promotes deconstruction of plastic wastes and indirectly degrades antibiotics thereby realizes the treatment of waste water with waste plastic.

Objective Brain microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) were found to shift from their usually inactive state to an active state in ischemic stroke (IS) and cause neuronal damage. ginsenoside Rb1 (gRb1),a component derived from medicinal plants,is known for its pharmacological benefits in IS,but its protective effects on BMECs have yet to be explored. This study aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of gRb1 on BMECs. Methods An in vitro oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OgD/R) model was established to mimic ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. Bulk RNA-sequencing data were analyzed by using the Human Autophagy Database and various bioinformatic tools,including gene set enrichment analysis (gSEA),gene Ontology (gO) classification and enrichment analysis,Kyoto Encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEgg) pathway analysis,protein-protein interaction network analysis,and molecular docking. Experimental validation was also performed to ensure the reliability of our findings. Results Rb1 had a protective effect on BMECs subjected to OgD/R injury. Specifically,gRb1 was found to modulate the interplay between oxidative stress,apoptosis,and autophagy in BMECs. Key targets such as sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1/p62),autophagy related 5 (ATg5),and hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) were identified,highlighting their potential roles in mediating the protective effects of gRb1 against IS-induced damage. Conclusion gRbl protects BMECs against OgD/R injury by influencing oxidative stress,apoptosis,and autophagy. The identification of SQSTM1/p62,ATg5,and HIF-1α as promising targets further supports the potential of gRb1 as a therapeutic agent for IS,providing a foundation for future research into its mechanisms and applications in IS treatment.

Dynamic Treatment Strategy of Chinese Medicine for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer Based on Machine Learning Algorithm

Objective: To establish the dynamic treatment strategy of Chinese medicine(CM) for metastatic colorectal cancer(m CRC) by machine learning algorithm, in order to provide a reference for the selection of CM treatment strategies for m CRC. Methods: From the outpatient cases of m CRC in the Department of Oncology at Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, 197 cases that met the inclusion criteria were screened. According to different CM intervention strategies, the patients were divided into 3 groups: CM treatment alone, equal emphasis on Chinese and Western medicine treatment(CM combined with local treatment of tumors, oral chemotherapy, or targeted drugs), and CM assisted Western medicine treatment(CM combined with intravenous regimen of Western medicine). The survival time of patients undergoing CM intervention was taken as the final evaluation index. Factors affecting the choice of CM intervention scheme were screened as decision variables. The dynamic CM intervention and treatment strategy for m CRC was explored based on the cost-sensitive classification learning algorithm for survival(CSCLSurv). Patients' survival was estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the survival time of patients who received the model-recommended treatment plan were compared with those who received actual treatment plan. Results: Using the survival time of patients undergoing CM intervention as the evaluation index, a dynamic CM intervention therapy strategy for m CRC was established based on *** CM intervention strategies for m CRC can be selected according to dynamic decision variables, such as gender, age, Eastern Cooperative Oncology group score, tumor site, metastatic site, genotyping, and the stage of Western medicine treatment at the patient's first visit. The median survival time of patients who received the modelrecommended treatment plan was 35 months, while those who receive the actual treatment plan was 26.0 months(P=0.06). Conclusions:

Efficacy and safety of perioperative therapy for locally resectable gastric cancer:A network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Interest has recently emerged in potential applications of (n, 2n) reactions of unstable nuclei. Challenges have arisen because of the scarcity of experimental cross-sectional data. This study aims to predict the (n, 2n) reaction cross-section of long-lived fission products based on a tensor model. This tensor model is an extension of the collaborative filtering algorithm used for nuclear data. It is based on tensor decomposition and completion to predict (n, 2n) reaction cross-sections; the corresponding EXFOR data are applied as training data. The reliability of the proposed tensor model was validated by comparing the calculations with data from EXFOR and different databases.
