Background： The community-based Ontology of Biological and Clinical Statistics （OBCS） represents and standardizes biological and clinical data and statistical methods. Methods： Both OBCS and the Vaccine Ontology （VO） were used to ontologically model various components and relations in a typical host response to vaccination study. Such a model was then applied to represent and compare three microarray studies of host responses to the yellow fever vaccine YF-17D. A literature meta-analysis was then conducted to survey yellow fever vaccine response papers and summarize statistical methods, using OBCS. Results： A general ontological model was developed to identify major components in a typical host response to vaccination. Our ontology modeling of three similar studies identified common and different components which may contribute to varying conclusions. Although these three studies all used the same vaccine, human blood samples, similar sample collection time post vaccination, and microarray assays, statistically differentially expressed genes and associated gene functions differed, likely due to the differences in specific variables （e.g., microarray type and human variations）. Our manual annotation of 95 papers in human responses to yellow fever vaccines identified 38 data analysis methods. These statistical methods were consistently represented and classified with OBCS. Eight statistical methods not available in existing ontologies were added to OBCS. Conclusions： The study represents the first single use case of applying OBCS ontology to standardize, integrate, and use biomedical data and statistical methods. Our ontology-based meta-analysis showed that different experimental results might be due to different experimental assays and conditions, sample variations, and data analysis methods.

Highly conductive and tough double-network hydrogels for smart electronics

Development and understanding of highly mechanically robust and electronically conducting hydrogels are extremely important for ever-increasing energy-based *** mixing/blending of conductive additives with hydrophilic polymer network prevents both high mechanical strength and electronic conductivity to be presented in polymer ***,we proposed a double-network(DN)engineering strategy to fabricate PVA/PPy DN hydrogels,consisting of a conductive PPy-PA network via in-situ ultrafast gelation and a tough PVA network via a subsequent freezing/thawing *** resultant PVA/PPy hydrogels exhibited superior mechanical and electrochemical properties,including electrical conductivity of~6.8 S/m,mechanical strength of~0.39 MPa,and elastic moduli of~0.1 *** further transformation of PVA/PPy hydrogels into supercapacitors,they demonstrated a high capacitance of~280.7 F/g and a cycle life of 2000 galvanostatic charge/discharge cycles with over 94.3%capacity retention at the current density of 2 mA/cm2 and even subzero temperatures of−20℃.Such enhanced mechanical performance and electronic conductivity of hydrogels are mainly stemmed from a synergistic combination of continuous electrically conductive PPy-PA network and the two interpenetrating DN *** in-situ gelation strategy is applicable to the integration of ionic-/electrical-conductive materials into DN hydrogels for smart-soft electronics,beyond the most commonly used PEDOT:PSS-based hydrogels.

Multifunctional Langmuir-Blodgett film of an Amphiphilic Benziminazole Styryl Dye

An amphiphilic benziminazole styryl dye, 2 (4 dihexadecylaminostyryl)benziminazolium TCNQ -(DBTCNQ), was synthesized and successfully transferred onto the substrates by Langmuir Blodgett(LB) technique. H aggregates were formed on the substrates. Its monolayer second order susceptibility[ χ (2) zzz = 109 p/mV) was determined with a polarized laser beam(Nd∶YAG, λ =1.064 μm). The photoelectrochemistry of the dye LB monolayer films was investigated in a traditional three electrode cell. The quantum efficiency of photoelectric conversion is 1.08% under favorable conditions [-200 mV, 0.5 mg/mL methylviologen diiodide(MV 2+ ) in 0.5 mol/L KCl electrolyte solution]. The experimental data indicate that the LB film exhibits multifunctional properties.

A new water-soluble hetero-polysaccharlde, APSID3, was obtained from a hot-water extract of the roots of Astragalus membranaceus （Flsch.） Bunge by DEAE-Sepharose Fast Flow and Sephacryl S-300 chromatography. The molecular weight of APSID3 was estimated to be 5.79 × 10^5 Da. Based on a sugar composlUon analysis, methylatlon analysis, partial hydrolysis and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance experimentation, It was concluded that the minimal repeat unit of APSID3 was composed of one terminal arablnose, one 1,5-1Inked arabinose, one 1,3-1Inked rhamnose, one 1,3,4-1Inked rhamnose, five 1,4-1Inked methyl galacturonates and six 1,4-1inked methyl glucuronates.

Imaging-guided precision oncotherapy mediated by nanoprobes: From seeing to curing

Malignant tumors are the main diseases threatening human life. Using precise theranostics to diagnose and cure tumors has emerged as a new method to improve patient survival. Based on the current development of precise tumor imaging, image-guided tumor therapy has received widespread attention because it is beneficial for developing precise treatment of tumors, has the potential to improve the efficacy of tumor therapy and reduce the incidence of adverse side effects. Nanoprobes, which are nanomaterial functionalized with specific biomolecules, have intrigued intense interest due to their great potential in monitoring biorecognition and biodetection evens. Benefiting from the unique advantages of nanomaterials, including the easy surface functionalization, the unique imaging performances, and the high drug loading capacity, nanoprobes have become a powerful tool to simultaneously realize tumor precise imaging, diagnosis, and therapy. This review introduces the non-invasive tumor precise imaging and highlights the recent advances of image-guided oncotherapy mediated by nanoprobes in anti-tumor drug delivery, tumor precise surgical navigation, chemodynamic therapy, and phototherapy. Finally, a perspective on the challenge and future direction of nanoprobes in imaging-guided tumor theranostics is also discussed.

All eukaryotic cells can secrete extracellular vesicles, which have a double-membrane structure and are important players in the intercellular communication involved in a variety of important biological processes. Platelets form platelet-derived microparticles (PMPs) in response to activation, injury, or apoptosis. This review introduces the origin, pathway, and biological functions of PMPs and their importance in physiological and pathological processes. In addition, we review the potential applications of PMPs in cancer, vascular homeostasis, thrombosis, inflammation, neural regeneration, biomarkers, and drug carriers to achieve targeted drug delivery. In addition, we comprehensively report on the origin, biological functions, and applications of PMPs. The clinical transformation, high heterogeneity, future development direction, and limitations of the current research on PMPs are also discussed in depth. Evidence has revealed that PMPs play an important role in cell-cell communication, providing clues for the development of PMPs as carriers for relevant cell-targeted drugs. The development history and prospects of PMPs and their cargos are explored in this guidebook.

Electrochemical properties of LiNi_(0.5)Mn_(1.3)Ti_(0.2)O_4/Li_4Ti_5O_(12)cells

Spinel compounds LiNi0.5Mn1.3Ti0.2O4（LNMTO） and Li4Ti5O12 （LTO） were synthesized by different methods. The particle sizes of LNMTO and LTO are 0.5-2 and 0.5-0.8 μm, respectively. The LNMTO/LTO cell exhibits better electrochemical properties at both a low current rate of 0.2C and a high current rate of 1C. When the specific capacity was determined based on the mass of the LNMTO cathode, the LNMTO/LTO cell delivered 137 mA.h.g-1 at 0.2C and 118.2 mA-h-g-l at 1C, and the corresponding capacity retentions after 30 cycles are 88.5% and 92.4%, respectively.
